The star of the show shrimp empanadas worth the arm and the legs
    Foo D.

The food is great. I usually go for the medium coctel de Camaron Caliente. An order of shrimp empanadas and an order of their delicious white rice. Service is good. The staff is attentive for the most part. The ambiance is chill on the westside of lb. the outside can be a little intimidating if you're not familiar with the area since there's a lot of homeless activity. Give it a shot, and don't miss out on the empanadas!

This restaurant makes your heart happy and your tummy even happier. It's a fun and relaxing family owned business. You can tell right when you walk in their pride to make people smile and enjoy a great meal. We ordered two shrimp platters. My husband got a very spicy flavor that he loved and I went for a garlic and cheese covered plate. I couldn't stop eating it. Their coleslaw is a family recipe and super yummy. They make their guacamole from scratch too and you can get it as spicy as you like. Their kids menu offers lots of kids favorite options. Portions are great, food is great and staff is even better. We can't wait to go back. Oh and their beer options were on point too. Thank you Las Islitas for a great family meal.

I come at this place to have $1 chips & salsa & the closes i can get my menudo. Food is decent, but expect the wait and poor service from the server(lady in a.m.) Only ONE server, cashier & getting order from the phone... I'll be back. Thank you!

Food is super delicious. Their specialty are the empanadas, you must try them. The sauce they add to them is superb. Dinning outside is an option due to covid restrictions.

At work, my coworkers know me as a Yelper, but it was my coworker who found this place on Yelp and how we ended up here for lunch the other day. Our group of three intended to dine at another restaurant but found it closed so one of my coworkers jumped on Yelp and off we went. This place is on Santa Fe, south of PCH. I'm not sure how keen I'd be going here at night. Lots of parking to include a small private lot behind the restaurant. Interior decor reminded me of a place you'd find in Mexico, on the beach. Not sure why but it just did. The server - nice and friendly - multilingual; patient too. Later found out she and her family own the place. The food (see pics) was pretty good. I opted for the three shrimp tacos. Two sauteed and one deep fried. Smaller shrimps which for me works with tacos because when using full size shrimp, you tend to get less pieces. Lots of condiments. Add some salsa which has decent flavor - fresh and not too strong and I devoured all three like I hadn't eaten in days. My coworkers also raved about their dishes. One had the fish tacos and the other had the flautas. They offer take out which looked to be pretty steady on our way out.

They're known for their handmade flour tortillas that have an amazing bite to them. They were just awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand award this week for their excellent, affordable food. One thing that I appreciate about their tacos is that their meats have varied textures. The costilla (rib meat) is a crowd pleaser as you get the taste of the grill/charcoal. They have tripe that is crispy with corn nut texture. Cabeza (face meat) has a stewed texture. Unlike most places in LB, there is two hours free parking conveniently located across the street at the Harvey Milk Community Lot. I stopped by on a Friday afternoon and waited about 20 minutes for a table. The wait was well worth it because each dish offered an explosion of flavors. My favorite dish was the birria, with the salmon ceviche as a close second. The mole was great too, but I'd say the other two dishes were more memorable and something I'd return for. I can't recommend the birria enough, as the flavors were reminiscent of what I've had in Mexico, very authentic. The space is small and can feel a bit tight, but sometimes the best food comes from these types of "hole in the wall" places. Ultimately, I'd say give Lola's a try! The soup here lacks the tastebud awakening zip that Don Chato's has. The ono fish taco experience was my fault... I hate fried fish taco, so I had lofty expectations, but due to the fact that I do not prefer corn tortillas, guacamole or raw onions, led to much disappointment since It has all three. Totally my fault. The butternut enchilada was lacking in the expected savoriness... this is being polite. The potato taquito was okay... but I am not a taquito person, so if you are I would seriously encourage you to try it. The star of the table was the Mexican corn. It may not compete with Cornman in Lincoln Heights, but it was decent. I scraped off the onions and toppings on the ono tacos, put the fish on the flour tortillas that another person didn't want, and topped the fish with refried beans, street corn and a but if the chicken tortilla soup broth to make due. When you are driving more than 30 minutes for this experience, I think you would agree that it was less that a proper way to celebrate a birthday. Oh and if there isn't any street parking. It'll cost you about 9 bucks in the lot. I didn't use the restroom, so I cant review its cleanliness. Our waitress was flawless taking orders and delivering food The restaurant itself has a great layout and an outdoor courtyard complete with propane heaters and umbrellas - I loved that... but my favorite part was out front, no not the seating area in the former parking spaces, nope... it was the collapsed woman on the sidewalk, walking her dog with snot running out of her nose because she was huffing some aerosol can of whatever. This truly set the mood upon arrival. Two stars for being close to a lot of other food choices to visit afterward.

In addition to all those basic menu items they have some stellar creations. I opted for the carne asada plate - simple and not spicy. Hubby ordered the Carne en su Jugo- very spicy with tomatillo broth and serranos, cilantro, bacon and onions. Both of our entrees came with bean soup and tortillas. The chips/ salsa starter was addictive. Huge basket of fresh warm chips, and a salsa like no other! Chunks of veggies and just the right spice. It was hard to get those chunks on the chips but it was delicious. My carne asada was tasty, a large portion with grilled scallion and rice. I wish some of the "bean soup" had been pureed to be a bit thicker but the broth was good, with a variety of beans. Hubby's dish had an interesting flavor, very spicy. He wished the broth had some rice, though, to accompany it. We could come back weekly to try many more entrees. Their salads sound tasty, too. Service was great.

It was open seating when we arrived which majority of the tables was taken where all the television were. The main dining area had a television set up but main bar area was where the action was taking place. We got lucky as there was a table available along the wall with perfect view of the game. Of course it was rain delayed so more time to enjoy food and drinks. Also it was happy hour and taco Tuesday all at the same time. As the game was happening, one of the tequila sponsors was there offering deals. Shot and a jersey. Tony took care of us that night and he was amazing. Made sure that we got everything we needed. Very sweet as well. Happy hour menu offered a good amount of items for a great deal. As well as draft beer and cocktails. Regular menu is great as well which we've had before. Food, an order of the tostada both with shrimp and aguachili. Served with two small tostada and handful of crevice on top. Both were quite tasty and very well flavored in the juice. Also two of the street tacos with birria. They were quite small but did have a major punch of flavor to it. And well priced at 2.50 a piece. Of course the crinkle cut loaded fries with added carne asada. Seemed like it was a popular item as every table had it. It was good but a little skimpy with the topping. Lastly the chicken wings, lemon pepper flavor. Six piece tossed in the sauce. It was good but way too salty for my liking. We still enjoyed everything we had. As we got the shot with the jersey earlier, the person who was affiliated with the sponsor brand was walking around with more shot. I must say, it does hit the spot big time...lol... The crowd was lively with everyone all there for the same reason. The game and good company. First time for happy hour and it was nice. We had a great time and everyone working was the sweetest. We were actually presently surprised with the taste of the food, thinking it might be more Americanized but they actually had very authentic and tasty totopos (tortilla chips). The tomato salsa that came with the chips was also very refreshing. We asked for hot sauce too and the house habanero salsa really packed a punch! We ordered carne asada nachos, pork belly chilaquiles (from the brunch menu), a breakfast burrito, poke, and steamed clams. The steamed clams came in a rich tomato broth and the breakfast burrito was massive. The poke was just okay and the chilaquiles a bit too soggy for me, and the carne asada nachos a bit dry. Nonetheless, presentation and portion sizes were respectable. The last comment is that food here is quite pricey but that reflects the likely high rent of a restaurant in 2nd and PCH.
