    Upside down pizza
    Chad S.

Local, home good cooking. Worth a 40 mile drive from any direction. Homespun Italian dishes. Pizza, calazones, Parma and macaroni dishes. Nice self serve salad bar in a back in the day setting. No linen napkins for fancy drinks, but good food to fill your appetite. This trip I had a shrimp cocktail and an upside down "sauce on the top" pizza to go. I washed the shrimp down with a few beers at the bar. John the bartender made me feel right at home even knowing my name by the end of my visit. Attention boaters docked on the Mohawk. They will come pick you up so you can enjoy this treasure as well. Tell them chad sent you!

We tried Buona Sera for dinner after our daughters rowed in the Saratoga Invitational. Sunday…read moreevening; called for a reservation, but not necessary. Got seated right away in the "Lake Room" and got served right away. The Lake Room has a nice view over Saratoga Lake, and the ambiance was good for family dinner, except for a couple of loud tables that made it hard to hear everyone. I had a bourbon Manhattan that was perfect - not so dry that it tasted like a glass of bourbon and not so much vermouth as to make it too sweet - and really smoothed off the afternoon - then a glass of St Francis Cabernet to go with dinner. Appetizers were pan-fried mozzarella and the Shrimp Limoncello. The mozzarella was "Made with Our Fresh Homemade Mozzarella, and Breadcrumbs, Served over Marinara." Light, slight breading and fried just enough with a perfectly sweet complementary red sauce. The Shrimp Limoncello was "Three U-10 Shrimp Sauteed with Roasted Garlic, Roasted Heirloom Tomatoes and Limoncello, Served with Grilled Bread." Shrimp were cooked just right, not overcooked, as happens many times with shrimp, and the tomatoes and bread were complementary and tasty, but the limoncello was a little too much lemon, not enough cello. (a little more tart than we liked) 2 entrees were the pan seared salmon over risotto with a request to undercook the salmon somewhat, which they honored, and it made the salmon very moist and tasty. The Roasted Garlic and Basil risotto was excellent - rice not overcooked, perfect with a deep warm roasted garlic flavor. My Eggplant Parmesan was prepared the old fashioned way with thinly sliced eggplant properly drained and sweet with an ultra thin breading fried just right with a delicious marinara sauce and plenty of mozzarella, served over house-made spaghetti cooked al dente. Ample enough to have half for lunch the next day. Oh, and I had a side order of broccoli rabe - slightly bitter, as it should be, with ample garlic flavor cooked perfectly. Excellent. The fourth entree was Shrimp Aglio E Olio - "Sauteed shrimp, broccoli rabe, roasted tomatoes, in a garlic and olive oil sauce. Served over spaghetti." Once again, large fresh (not meaning not previously frozen, just clearly not old) meaty shrimp cooked perfectly - still moist with some crunch with a wonderful pungent garlic sauce over that perfectly al dente spaghetti. My daughter loved it. Also enough for lunch the next day. Desserts were homemade tiramisu and lemon ricotta cake with raspberry sauce and whipped cream. Tiramisu was classic and delicious. Lemon cake was a little dry but tangy and tasty, especially with the full-flavored raspberry sauce. We only get to Saratoga in the spring and fall for the rowing races, but this will be our go-to place for post-regatta dinner any time we're around. Very very good. Not cheap, but one doesn't mind when it's well worth the price.

Only reason for two stars is because of Ryleigh our waitress!!! She was absolutely amazing…read more The rest of the night was a disaster. Ordered two apps and one came out and the other was out 10 minutes later (comped). Next was dinner. My wife chicken parm was ice cold so we send it back and instead of remaking they threw it in the oven and baked it more. (See pic of this burnt mess). How does the kitchen not realize this should not go out??? HOW!!! (Comped) My sister got the eggplant parm, all I can say is stay away from this dish. I talked it and it was the worst! (Comped). I don't know how this place is staying open and I feel bad for the amazing staff. The manager also came over and it was obvious he didn't really care we had issues, another reason I feel sorry for the amazing staff. We also had a good experience at the bar before we sat with Cassidy. This was our second and last time going to this place!!!

We were served drinks quickly and brought a delicious loaf of Italian bread. The wine and cocktails were fine. Our salads followed shortly with only 2 choices of dressing, a strong balsamic or ranch dressing. The salad was ok. Some mixed greens and a couple cherry tomatoes. Then we waited and waited and waited. It took well over an hour for our entrees to arrive. We were not checked on during the long wait. When we finally got our food it was mixed reviews. I ordered the scallops and was surprised that was all I got. No side pasta or vegetable at all. It looked pretty with dual sauces but the taste was just ok. I tried some one else's side of pasta with marinara and it was acidic for my taste. Two of my sons enjoyed their dishes. One a mushroom cream pasta and one a chicken riggie pasta. Both were good. My niece tasted too much condensed milk in her Alfredo but enjoyed the shrimp that came with it. The cod that my sister in law got had a good texture and taste. My aunt didn't like her pasta Juliano dish. My Uncle loved his meal. This place is a bit too pricey for what you get and they definitely need to improve the service time.

Our server was Jay and he was very accommodating. Once he found out it was our Dad's birthday, he asked his name and each time he came to the table to check on us (which was often), he made sure to make a big deal out of our Dad's special day. Let's get to the food. We had calamari as a starter - cooked perfectly but a little over-seasoned. Still good. The house salad sweet red pepper vinaigrette was SO good I'm going to try to recreate it at home. Caesar salads were also good. My husband and I ordered the Duck Cassis and it was excellent. The broccoli and zucchini that were served with the duck were underwhelming (zero seasoning) but the mashed potatoes were delicious. My Dad ordered the filet/shrimp special and really enjoyed it. Everyone loved their meals. Chicken parm with vodka sauce, Haddock Francais, Roman Caesar salad, Veal Sorrentino, and a couple of pasta dishes. One with gluten free pasta that was really enjoyed. We also ordered the house Tuscan - Montepulciano, the house white, and some cocktails that were all very good. We were too full to order dessert but Jay brought out a chocolate mousse with a candle and we all sang happy birthday to Dad. Overall, very impressive meal. It's a hike from where we live, but next time we're visiting our family in the area, we'll definitely make the trip back.
