Vince is great, my pool has never looked better. I have not gotten algae since he has been working on my pool!

**CUSTOMER BEWARE**…read more I bought a house back in 2021 and Matt's service came with the pool. As far as I knew, everything seemed like it was being maintained properly, and I kept him until Jan 1st 2024. At that point, as a New Year's resolution, I decided that based on the economics (he had called me and told me most of his customers were bumped up to $150 a month back in Oct or Nov), I should just take over handling my pool since I work from home and keep a vacuum plugged in about 99% of the time. He was always very friendly about payment, and extremely affable in general. Never an issue with him *at all*. This is all pretty much still the good part. Long story short, I went and tested my pool. Mind you, he hadn't been there for about a week already and they had always put 2-3 3" tablets in a floater, every single week, all year long. Chlorine demand is a lot less in the winter, but actually testing the water would have told him he didn't need to keep adding so much. When I tested my pool, I found my CYA at 167. Chlorine was 3.4 times max (5.0ppm is max, it was 16.7) Max CYA should ever be is 100, and at that point you should drain either fully or partially and refill with fresh water. When the CYA is that high, chlorine doesn't work as well, to the point that from 30 to 40 ppm CYA, chlorine is 7.8% less effective at killing algae or bacteria. CYA is what comes as "pool conditioner" and it never evaporates or leaves the pool once added. For as high as it was, my only recourse was a full drain, pressure wash, and refill / re-balance. What's worse is that it's included with all of the "stabilized" chlorine products like the 3" tabs I'd watched him put in my pool for over 2 years. On top of it, he charged me for "conditioning" my pool as part of the monthly service, which only made it worse. And it was complete fraud because it only needs that when you do a fresh fill. CYA *NEVER LEAVES YOUR POOL EVEN WHEN THE WATER EVAPORATES*. Matt wasn't the guy who normally worked on my pool. The guy who did never used a test vial to test the pool, he'd just drop a few drops directly into the pool and "look" at it to see. He also never, ever, tested for CYA, but instead just charged me and added it. Also, you can never use tablets in a pool and not have to do that. So any pool guy who uses tablets rather than powder or liquid chlorine is literally screwing up your pool. Then there's the every 3 months charges for filter service. This should mean cracking the filter case open, cleaning it all out, putting back in the specific amount of DE specified by the manufacturer. In my case, I had been charged for it in October, but based on the condition it was likely not done for at least a couple of years, and they would charge me every time he spent 1.5 minutes doing a simple backflush. Then he'd add back DE roughly guessing with no measurements, how much he should add in. Too much DE and it bypasses the filter, making the water cloudy, and this is also why when I drained out the pool the final 1/4" inch was grey DE sludge. The process to properly clean out the filter, and replace the filter o-ring which their's no way he would have gotten the lid back on without replacing it, shows clearly I was charged and the service wasn't performed. **BUYER BEWARE** Also, after the fact, about 2 weeks after I had told him we're gonna try handling it, I ended up texting him with all the crazy stuff I found. Amazingly, the guy who always answered phone calls had not even a single answer. I won't say I completely hate the pool stores. Spare parts and basic chemicals if they price match is pretty good. Free water testing, that's pretty comprehensive and matches my own reagent test results is great. Highly recommend everyone who uses this dude go read up at https://troublefreepool.com/ and stop getting hosed by stores and contractors. I'm not sure Matt's unique in the local industry, but the fact is I can do everything they would do and more with about 5 minutes every couple of days, and maybe 10 minutes on Saturday. Every 3-6 months I might put 30 minutes effort into thoroughly cleaning my filter grids and total cost of chemicals might put me in the $6-800 a year range. With Matt I was running around $2k a year with the upcharges every few months and they did virtually none of the work I was happily paying for, thinking it was well being well maintained. He also indicated he'd been doing my pool for nearly 20 years. What a guy!
