A lot of my life with my dad has been spent in a rush. Rushing from what I never really understood…read moretil I got older. We've found ourselves in this particular moment, him 5 years sober, me 26 and often confusing experiences of pain and pleasures on the thin ice of addiction. Today we are in wisconsin, visiting family, having coffee to stay at a cafe my grandma recommended we go to. She has my tiny brother, so it's just my dad and I, how things were for 16 years. We work as a team to find free parking. We love doing team things to save a dollar, a minute, or find a loophole. We decide on our coffees, and when the barista asks if we'll have them to stay my dad says yes, which brings a smile to my mind. He suggests we share this berry oat bar thing. One thing I find so charming about his sobriety is his need for sweets. It's somewhere in trainspotting 2 that mark tells spud "you'll always be an addict. You just have to find something else to get addicted to." I think of this when i see him with a big fat bowl of ice cream after dinner and a new exciting hobby every other month. I think of this when I consider what my life might be like if I decide to admit some things to myself sooner than later. But right now it's me and my father, having coffee to stay in cute mugs, no rushing, no changing things, just farting around in a midwest summer.

First, the sour dough bread is absolutely amazing! Some of the best I've ever had…read more We will definitely continue purchasing the bread. We won't go in for brunch again though. I ordered toast, crispy potatoes, a side of bacon. My daughter ordered eggs Benedict . My order came and the waitress had forgot to put in the potatoes . This was after confirming the order twice. When the potatoes came it was a small portion swimming in some kind of spicy seasoned oil. For $8 I would have expected a bit more portion wise. The bacon was fine. Nothing remarkable, and $4 for two slices. The toast and jam was ok. The toast bordered on burnt and was served without butter. The jam was more like a strained strawberry puree. The toast was tasty, except for the slightly burnt top. The eggs Benedict was $22. For that price they should be stellar! The English muffin had burnt bits, the hollandaise was ok, nothing special , the ham was tasty , but the egg was poached way past the point you would want or expect with eggs Benedict . There was a side of thinly sliced zucchini and squash that was quite tasty . Again, terrific bread- but we will skip the dine in options.

Picked up a chocolate croissant and an almond croissant from Voyageurs at the farmers' market by St. Brendan's Inn, where I am staying. Both were delicious, and the almond croissant was huge! I've been snacking on that throughout the day. I mentioned to them that Yelp has them listed as being open until 2 AM on Friday night. They clarified that they close at 2 PM on Friday's, like the rest of the week. Nice folks, very kind and helpful. Their breads looked delectable as well.

There were plenty of people on the boardwalk and plenty inside. We were seated immediately and our server tended quickly. Food followed fast as well and wowwww the eggs on the chilequiles were sooo jiggle and soft and perfectly cooked. They were so busy ! How did they do that?? The corn bread was fantastic. My boyfriend is from Tennessee and was very pleased by it. He also eagerly feasted on a Benedict with lox on it I got the chicken and waffles as my main and the chicken was so nice. Perfectly crisp and spicy and not too thick for the purpose. The waffles were nicely cooked and crisp on the edges. Golden brown. Fantastic service we kept saying again and again how good it was on the walk to the car.

The waiter immediately came to serve us I had to ask for the spot to be cleaned instead of him just doing it on his own. The service was fast and easy but the food not so good. 3/5 stars because the creamy latte was to die for Really yummy!!! As far as the steak and cheese skillet I wasn't fond of it at all. I got hash browns instead of the breakfast potatoes. It came out lukewarm with like 4 bite size pieces of steak underneath the half cooked scrambled eggs. I wanted cheddar instead of Swiss cheese I was confused when it looked like they still used Swiss but was informed that was "white cheddar". Which I wish they would have told me that's the only cheddar they had before just making my meal. Will I come back again maybe probably yes the beverage options are really extensive but next time try something completely different on the menu!!!!
