Went to go see Puddle of Mudd Thursday night, sold out show, wanted to get there early to grab a table (my girlfriend said she has never had a problem despite the reviews stating otherwise). Doors opened at 6 and we arrived around 6:20p.m. The line was short, 10 or less and took only minutes. Reserved signs on some of the tables, not all, so we chose one that didn't. We were only a group of 3 waiting on the rest, no waiters to get drinks so inside with the cool bartender. Tall glasses $7 a pop. Okay - acceptable for a show or any bar after happy hour. We sat back down at the chosen table, drank and took in the scene, speculating what this 90's rock band would be like today. More on this in a bit. About 30-45 minutes later a waitress came over and asked if we wanted to buy the table $200 minimum. Um - these tables aren't reserved. Oh, we got here late we all have other jobs she snarked. Okay, sure, we'll be spending more than $200-we have 8 more coming. She wanted a CC and an ID, why if we are paying cash we asked, if you need receipts to total we can give you those for the boss man we've already spent $50 with just us three. She left and a bit later a different girl did the same thing, we explained the same. 20 min. later a bouncer came over with the same story, but now the table was $350 min. and that someone might want bottle service at the table and it was their best table. He was shocked when we told him it has been a $200 min. from the girls. This is only happening to our table not the other 7 around us. (We didn't realize it was under the neon "I LOVE YOU" sign as it was daylight when we got there. But still, other tables were not getting hustled and they told us they hadn't reserved the table or coughed up a CC. Each waitress or bouncer who came over all stated their manager was making them come over, and it was apparent they hated having to convey his directive when it was obvious the $200 or $350 levels were still going to be achieved with a crowd of 11. In the end one in the group gave her card and we proceeded to anticipate the show. Hot dogs were $3, unless you ordered them from the table then $4 dollars - corner store dawgs blow these out of the water. Drinks arrived in short glasses from then on. Wine was $8 dollars and DosXX $6, but that vacillated. There was no continuity with pricing or stories. It seemed like they were all operating independently. The take away... the place is a cool outdoor venue with a big bathroom (a plus for the girl line). The staff had a pretty good attitude (bartenders were tip top). The girls had the roughest job having to dish out the managers orders. We ended up with Tori who took care of the group diligently - you go girl! AND the band didn't show up!!! If it hadn't been for a free ticket and a Lyft ride I would have been out some $45 dollars between ticket and a $20 parking fee. Will I go back? - maybe for a HH or a weekend outing, but not for an event. read more

HORRIBLE VALLET SERVICE! I recently attended an event featuring Carl Cox and I had an amazing time up until it was time for me to leave. I left prior to the end of the event to retrieve my car from the valet service. It took them quite a while to bring my car (made me suspicious) to me even though I was one of maybe 2 other people waiting. Upon the arrival of my car, I enter it to finally leave and when I do, suddenly my car was not able to be put in gear. Mind you I have a manual transmission, so I am not sure what the problem was, but my car was working perfectly fine and had no mechanical issues known to date. If you value your vehicle I suggest that you do not use this service as they are not liable to any damages that occur! What seemed like a great night was ruined by an irresponsible valet company hired by this venue! I will never be back at this location unless they find a way to better manage their services! read more

If you haven't been here yet, DONT GO. I spent well over 100 dollars on concert tickets and parking and ended up having to leave. A group of boys slammed into a group of girls which turned into drinks falling and flying everywhere. When a drink fell on top of a girl, the girls were rushed by a group of security guards claiming they were underage drinking and started grabbing and kicking girls out left and right. Any girl who wasn't 21 they threw out for no valid reason what so ever even though it was an 18+ event. Girls who never even touched an ounce of alcohol. The whole night you could see men grabbing and kicking out any and every girl that they pleased but specifically girls that paid to be there and did nothing wrong. It was disgusting and the worst experience I've ever had at a club or venue location in houston. Dealing with the cops and men outside the venue was even worse. It was clear that the whole establishment runs through extreme sexism. Horrible. read more

I reserved a section for 9/14. We arrived at 11pm. My girlfriends and I were escorted to the section. About 30 minutes later the waitress informed us we were taken to the wrong section. I asked that we it be moved. Later another waitress came and pretty much ordered us to move to the next section over. Very tacky, and created confusion. read more

If they spent as much effort on training their staff to be somewhat nice as they do in promotions, they might be OK. I went to Proof several years ago, encountered an incredibly rude and overall "I hate life" bartender, left after the first drink. Club was empty on a Friday night... I know why! Gave it another shot a few months ago. Pulled up to valet. Valet person says "what do you want?" I want my car valeted so I can go inside! I decided against leaving my car and going in. Just crappy attitudes and customer service ALL AROUND. read more

Recently went to the bar this past weekend for the first time. My friends and I got in no problem (probably because we were females) but my other friend had to pay a cover. The bartender was so sweet. She made our drinks very quick for us. The guys we met at the bar were very sweet, but it seems like you have to know people to get in especially if you are a guy. Love the "I love you sign." We weren't allowed to sit down since all tables were reserved but because the guys we were with bought 4 bottles, they allowed us to sit with them which is ridiculous. The security is very strict. We were dancing just like everyone else, but they were watching us like hawks. Just feel like this bar is judgmental. This review is only in reference to the ticketed NYE 2022 event. I bet the are great on a regular night, but they may want to consider getting a different event management group for future ticketed events. We pre-bought VIP tickets which reserved a table for 8. We ended up waiting in line for about 20 minutes because they only had 2 women checking tickets and applying wristbands. It was annoying, but definitely not something I would write a whole review about. We get to the table, and just waited around for another 10 minutes - which was odd because the VIP area was literally empty except for us. The table was a 2 bottle minimum, which was great for us. There was no other fine print or qualifier on the tickets (which cost $200). Bottles started at $300, so we expected to pay about $600 (2 Tito's bottles priced at $300) before tax and gratuity. When the server finally arrived, it was apparent that she and the rest of the staff were given completely different information about these tickets and the VIP package. She thought that we had prepurchased a $1500 package - or at least needed to buy 1500 worth of alcohol. We ended up getting a manager because that's not what we purchased - even showing the fine print do our tickets. Long story short, we end up just arguing with management for an hour and wasted our New Year's Eve because they tried to make us pay $1500, when 2 bottles should only have cost $600. I don't think they were deliberately trying to scam us, I just think that management has little experience and didn't want to admit that they fumbled the ticketing. They told staff one thing, and sold tickets under a different set of rules, then just wouldn't admit their mistake. read more

If I had to review this place with one word it would be this - Pandemonium. This is my first time leaving a bad review for anything, ebay, amazon, yelp, google reviews, ect, but I felt I want to help another soul avoiding having an experience like I had. Bought tickets for an event on Sept 16 2022 and the club's site added a 9 dollar service fee. For what? What service exactly was provided? It's an automated web site, are we paying bots now? Ballet systematically boosted up the price from 20 to 40 when the first parking area was full. The ballet attendants were uneducated gentlemen of Arabian origin who were dressed like filthy street beggars. They were loud, rude, condescending and ungroomed with questionable hygiene. 90 percent of the doorman/ bouncers were incompetent. The man doing the frisking before the metal detector was the only well educated, well natured man. He deserved to work in a better environment. The inside was dirty with no seating except for tables upstairs which went for 400 a piece without bottles. Standing all night is excellent isn't it? I do have to give props to the air conditioning system downstairs it was nice and cool, however it was the complete opposite upstairs. If that's where you want to be be prepared to sweat like a pig. The Dj that was working that night was a the worst DJ I ever came across in 20 years of going to events. He didn't even announce the acts before they went on and he talked over their performance. The night ended ahead of time due to a brawl that broke out. Instead of just kicking out the brawlers they kicked everybody out before the main acts performed. That's an intelligent decision that took the paying customers into consideration correct? Avoid this place like the black death. If will be out of business soon with it's unorganized business practices and it's completely incompetent staff. read more

Somehow I ended up at Proof because a friend was telling me that her niece works here. I had a bit of a problem finding parking. The parking lot was full and the surrounding area street parking was also full. I drove around for approximately 15 minutes before finding any parking. We went to the front, checked our ID and went up the stairs. The place was packed with what seemed to be a bunch of bikers. There was a group on stage playing rock music. It was cool, sound was good, the people were cool and enjoying their time. We went to the bar (of course) and ordered crown and coke (not bad). The staff is really nice and respectful. Gave 4 starts instead of 5 because of the parking situation. read more

I've been to proof before and it's a really cool place to hang out on the weekend. However, the Asian bouncer is a complete dick and out to make money at the expense of his people. We came after a bday dinner and decided to head out to Proof. All were nicely dressed and ready to party. When we got there, paid for parking, and waited in line for 10 mins...only to be rejected by the bouncer with the lame excuse that we ddnt reserved for a table and must order a bottle in order to get in. If that's a legit rule and was enforced for everyone, I would've been fine with it and have no complaint against Proof. But that was not the case. Proof was/is extremely prejudice and only let a certain ethnic group in. read more

There were guys in there with flip flop, shorts and t-shirts. They told one of my friends he could not get in with his dress shoes and Polo-style shirt because it was not a button down shirt. I went to Proof for a friend's birthday party on a Saturday night. I was also meeting a friend of mine but unfortunately he was turned down at the door. Dress code appeared to be lax with a lot of gentlemen inside wearing sneakers and jeans. My friend was wearing jeans with dress shoes. He was African American and the crowd was primarily white/Hispanic which may have been the reason he was not allowed in. When I attempted to go outside and meet him at the door, an HPD officer yelled "in or out!" so I went back inside feeling bad for my friend. Overall, bad experience and the place is nowhere near as posh as it thinks it is. This is Houston guys, one of the most diverse cities in the country,...get with the times, Proof. read more

This bar has been violating the Houston noise ordinance repeatedly to host live rock shows from its rooftop deck. The noise level and hours exceed any permit it could possibly get from the city. Please avoid this venue and save us folks living nearby in midtown! read more

Decided on going to proof knowing that sometimes it gets hard to get in. Willing to buy a bottle to accomodate me and my 8 friends. The bouncer Clark tells us that we can't get in because we have to many guys. We somewhat understand this and tell him that we are willing to buy a table and a bottle. Clark tells us that there are no more tables. So we procede to negotiate the fee to get in. After a decent tip we get in. Once we get in we ask a waitress if there is really a shortage of tables. Low and behold we are able to get a table. I am somewhat understanding that some of these clubs may stringent on how many guys they let in but come on now. Have some consistency. I would probably give Proof 5 stars, but reasonably I can't because i didn't spend a great deal of time here. Just a couple hours here to start off the night before hopping around through midtown. I didn't have any trouble getting in, and I was certainly dressed VERY casually for this place. The doorman and bartenders were friendly towards me. I will note it did take a couple minutes to get a drink at the bar, but it was expected because the place was busy. The moment the bartender noticed me standing there, they were attentive and pleasant. Drinks were reasonably priced and the music (DJ) was good. The place was pretty packed, but give the layout of the place, you never felt like it was overcrowded. The outdoor lounge area is nice and the color scheme of the place is pretty modern. The crowd was a really big mix of older, younger, good ratio of male-to-female, and no one really gave off that "I'm better than you" vibe. Here is where I REALLY want to give Proof 5-stars, especially because I'm such a sucker for awesome customer service: -I ordered a round of drinks earlier in the night and gave my debit card and drivers license to the bartender, leaving my tab open. A bit later, my friends rushed us out of Proof to move on to the next place, causing me to completely forget my things. I realized later in the night that I left an open tab along with my ID and card. I went to Proof on Sunday only to find that they were closed (apparently not open on Sundays till the spring). Of course I started panicking because I need a drivers license to get around town! I was able to get a hold of the GM who (was out of town mind you) and promptly called me back. He told me he would try to make some calls to see what he could do and call me back in an hour. If he couldn't arrange anything for Sunday then he would be able to get me my things Monday (They aren't open until Wednesdays!) I said my prayers and hoped for the best. Fifteen minutes later he called me back, told me he would have someone there for the next half hour. I got back to Proof, met with another Proof employee, not sure if he was another manager, and he was extremely friendly, and got me my things. I thanked the GM for being such a lifesaver. Not only is the vibe of the place a key factor in wanting to return, but awesome customer service makes you feel appreciated and welcomed to the bar. I will definitely be back, as the employees and managers of Proof completely won me over. read more

Ive been on both a Thursday and a sunday. Friday and Saturday tend to have very long lines and unless you have a lot of girls with you or know someone might be hard to get in. Thursday: chill place. Played pool at the one pool table they have upstairs. Got to enjoy the place without it being too crowded. Sunday: edm dance party. Tons of people. Very loud. Very see and be seen kinda crowd. Lamborghinis and vettes in the parking lotm seemed like a lot of daddy's money. But plenty of hot girls to go around. Overall this is a very cool spot. It has its own food truck. On the roof. There is lots of lounge style seating. There is an outdoor and an indoor component with two decent size bars. Good music if you like edm with ample dance space. Pool is free to play. Good ambience. Havent had any issues with security. read more

Let me start by saying that we had a fantastic time at Proof for the Summerland Concert Tour with Everclear, Live, Filter and Sponge! I wish the event had posted on YELP! so I could review that separately. The bands Rocked! I had never been to Proof before yesterday's concert. The rooftop bar is pretty cool. There is a lot of seating available outside with a nice outside bar and inside are a couple of long community bar tops with plenty of standing room. Everywhere you looked, there was a guy in a Proof shirt wiping tabletops, carrying ice, or picking up empty glasses and bottles. It was staffed pretty well and it's nice to be in a place that is taken care of like that. Now, downstairs, specifically for this concert, the space was huge. What a great space for shows! Although we hung out on the roof along the wall for a great view of the stage and performers, we ventured down into the crowd to stand in line for some food. The line was pretty long, we stood for about 15 minutes chatting about what we should order. As we inched closer and closer to the front of the line, we noticed that the only choices were fajita chicken or beef and hot dogs. We watched as the guy manning the grill reached for a hot dog on the top rack and placed it into a hot dog bun and placed it into a hot dog container because someone in front of us had ordered a hot dog. We also noticed the same guy was clearing the bottom grill for more meat. Maybe burgers we thought! Wrong, he put more chicken on. The chicken came out of a large plastic bag in a cooler. He reached into the bag with both hands, NO GLOVES, and pulled a few large pieces out to spread on the bottom grill. Then with the same hands, NOT WASHED, NOT GLOVED, NOT WIPED, picked up tongs to handle the chicken AND then the hot dogs. Now, we never saw him actually pick up a hot dog with his hands again but our imagination did take us there! No sinks in sight, no soap :/ At this point, I urged my friend to jump out of the line and check with the Proof guys if there was any way we could leave and have re-entry into the concert (Admission was FREE and the place was not packed by any means). There were no other food choices available in the bar. The answer was no. So, there would be no food for this group because eating from here was no longer an option! We had been there since 1PM and according to the online info on Proof's site, there would be food at the concert, so we had planned on grabbing something there. I am not sure if the food available was an outside vendor or from Proof's own kitchen/staff, but I wanted to let them know that FOOD SAFETY is very serious! Many people may have gotten sick from yesterday's food. Hopefully not! But raw chicken and EVERYTHING ELSE SHOULD NOT MIX! It was very unnerving to think that people were potentially getting sick! It is hard to rate this review. I don't want to ding the place if it was an outside food vendor, but at the same time, because it was their establishment, I feel that it is Proof's responsibility to regulate things like food safety, even if it is an outside vendor. read more

Proof might be one of my favorite Midtown night spots. The decor is very contemporary and trendy, with lots of free space so you don't feel like you're suffocating. It's built over the old Barcadia, and looks like it's on top of a parking garage. Parking was difficult as it always is in Midtown on a Friday night, but we managed to find some. Valet parking is $10 if you're willing to spring for it. They don't charge cover and we were able to get in quickly. Outside, I saw a beautiful sight -- food truck! The best weekend nights always include bars and food trucks. Inside, we walked into the spacious patio and stopped for drinks at the outside bar. Specialty cocktails were $10, so we tried a few of those. Not cheap, but very much on par with Midtown bar prices. The Proof Punch was good, and I also had the Texas Tease (with raspberry and mint substituted for the razzmatazz -- an idea from the helpful bartender). They were served in mason jars, which I thought was a cute touch. Inside there were some legitimate dart boards that didn't at all invoke an idea of a sports bar. The DJ on the other side played some good Top 40 stuff (and a little House music. meh.) and there was a small but adequate dancefloor. Some of the tables near the inside bar also had tic-tac-toe games, which would be a great way to strike up a conversation and flirt with a stranger. Kind of a yuppie vibe, but whatevs. Attire ran the gamut from cargo shorts to tiny dresses and high heels. Upstairs did, in fact, look like a sports bar. It seemed like they had bought some of the old arcade games from Barcadia (win) and they also had a pool table and foosball. The bathrooms were clean, too, which is another major bonus in Midtown. We're already planning on coming back for a friend's birthday. Definitely a fan. FYI: Dress code isn't super strict as long as your clothes fit you, and they have happy hour during the week from 4-8 with $2 off drinks. Plus I hear you can even get food from Reef up there before 8pm. read more

This is the typical place that promises more than it can deliver. Overall most clubs in Houston do this. Don't go out expecting much anywhere. For guys don't think it's an easy place to pick up the ladies. I was in and out of here about six months ago. Nothing special, and nothing to keep me hanging out. If you like to drink and pretend to be hip or cool, fine, otherwise go to a local pub with your friends. Going out in Houston is almost a hassle due to parking, bouncers, and the noise in clubs. You rarely get a good return on your time out. Maybe COV-19 will prune out the loser joints and make the survivors treat patrons better. read more

I'd heard a million wonderful things about Proof before I went myself. Perhaps that inflated my expectations. Or maybe, it's simply a thoroughly average place to spend your night. I went early, at around 10:30pm, but left around 11:30pm when things were starting to gear up -- so I was able to see the bar/lounge at both the skeletal level and experience its more typical late night ambience. Ironically, despite my early arrival, I ended up waiting in line for about 30 minutes before ascending a few flights of stairs into a rather empty open pavilion. There were a few food trucks that looked staged, and that also weren't open (perhaps 'yet'). After that, there was a winding path around oddly dispersed chic-modern patio chaises, tables, and chairs, where a few people sat lazily and looked around. A DJ was playing at a bar just inside, where there were some funky 60s wall designs... but the music, which started out bright and current, slowly devolved into an odd mix of 90s rap, oldies, and classic R&B. The few people who were dancing on the very, very small dance floor walked off after a few songs. Proof isn't for dancing. It's more like a place to buy expensive drinks and sit around. Personally, I found the place non-engaging, and felt distracted by the nearby pulse of laughter, music, and bass from surrounding clubs. Even as people filtered, then poured in, and the place was certainly crowded, it still lacked dynamic. I noticed that even when most of the sitting and standing room outside was full, that same look of 'waiting for something to happen' seemed painted on everyone's face. My friends, who are far more low key than I often am, also appeared underwhelmed, and we eventually left for Club Aura (which was awesome, but the exact opposite of Proof!). I'd say if you're just looking to lounge, drink, and get out for the night, perhaps to say you 'did' something, then sure. Proof's okay. There's nothing wrong with it, per se - hence the three stars - there's just absolutely nothing special either, which means it falls short of other bars/lounges with more energy and movement. read more

I never have a bad time at Proof! It's one part atmosphere and many parts what you make it. There is plenty of space to dance, socialize or go hide out from a creeper! All jokes aside, I love the fact that it's tucked away and not obnoxiously advertising itself. I think maybe it was a true test to seeing if word of mouth could bring this place to life and it's apparently working! There is rarely a wait for drinks, the decor is gorgeous and if you're ready to utilize your drunken competitive side, there are a few arcade-like games upstairs (and secret bathrooms). This isn't your typical 'neighborhood' bar, but sometimes I like to feel more upscale and sexy when I want a night on the town and this place gives you that opportunity. I definitely throw on my big girls heels when I know it's a Proof night. read more

The owner here is AWFUL. We got "let in" and IMMEDIATELY kicked out by him based on a "rude comment" that he heard someone say. He was arrogant and rude and unfortunately lost frequent customers because of it. That used to be a favorite bar of ours.. But we won't be returning. read more

I didn't have a problem with the juiced up Asian bouncer when our group went to Proof Friday. I'm Asian as well, and didn't really encounter anything racist from anyone either. I reserved a bottle and our waitress Cara was awesome and friendly.It was my first time there and I had a really great experience, and so did all of my other friends from out of town. This would have been a 1 star review if not for our fantastic hostess/server Scarlett, who singlehandedly earned the extra 2 stars. So I spent last Friday night here with a group of friends celebrating my 10th wedding anniversary (no I'm not old!), Anyway, my BFF spoke with the manager, Johnny, 7 times to make bottle service reservations for a group of 20 people and felt really good about the reservation. A group of 4 of us got there at the appointed time and the manager claimed he didn't have reservations under her name and did not remember talking to her. I called my BFF, who was stuck in traffic, who tore him a new one on the phone. After she hung up on him, he "conveniently" remembered that he talked to her about our bottle service reservation and said we were taken care of the rest of the night. We were all good until the brief hour between our hostess starting her shift and our "free" margaritas expired. The bitchy bartender said we had to open a tab if we wanted more drinks before bottle service "officially started" at 10. WTF ...my BFF spent $2000 on bottle service, the least we could have gotten was a couple of drinks/beers while we waited for our hostess to start her shift. This is Houston, not Miami/NYC/Vegas! Once our hostess Scarlett arrived, she went above and beyond to make sure our group was well taken care of. For our group of friends that were unaware of the background issues, they said they had a great time and would go back to Proof. The space was great and the view was gorgeous. The patio filled up quickly and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The bottle service area was comfortable and the weather was tolerable, considering it was the middle of the summer in Houston. For those of us who know what really went down, we would have looked for a different spot. I am not very familiar with the Houston club scene, so I don't know if my experience is the norm or the exception, but I was disappointed and expected better.
