So I'm gay and 20 and the first thing I did when I moved to Houston was look for the best gay bars/clubs to go to (ones that allow people under 21, of course) and the very first thing that popped up in all the search engines was South Beach. And whenever I would ask pretty much anyone I met in Houston where I should go if I wanna dance, they would say "have you gone to South Beach?". It's a place for everyone! It's not just a gay club. It's an experience. It's definitely an experience and of course it made me want to go there when I found out there was no cover on Friday nights (I basically go there every Friday night). The music ranges from "oh my god i love this song!" to "is this even music?" but the music is constantly upbeat and I generally don't stop dancing until I'm told to leave. I've met some pretty awesome people there it never fails to put me in a good mood. I'm told drinks are cheap and get you where you want to be. They even have a patio where you can cool off and talk to all the other people. It is as good as it gets when it comes to dancing. They even have a like dry ice or smoke or something that comes down from the ceiling. It comes down for minutes at a time and you can't even your own hand in front of your face. But I loved every second of it and I can't stay away! Enjoy! ^_^

Who doesn't love go-go dancers? Lol

Overall, I had a good time cause I was with good company. However, I'm so SICK of techno!! Geeez! Mix it up in there please! Mix in some R&B n Hip Hop.. Just so damn tired of hearing the same beat ALL night long. Hence, my 3 Star rating. Valet was nice and fast! Our Bartender was awesome! BTW-Ladies, this is a meat factory so move on to the next establishment if you are trying to find your boo!

Went on a Sunday night around 11:30pm, cover was $5. We told the cashier we were a bachelorette group and the bride got in for free. The place is huge. Three bars, two sets of bathrooms and the dance floor was good size, the fog does get frigid, can see the use when the floor is packed with dancers. I like the go go boxes, were definitely used by the boys. Only one set of bathrooms were open and that one was near the dance floor. I went into the women's room and thought I was in the wrong one at first since guys were coming out of the stalls...and not alone. The bathroom floors are wet with lord knows what, don't put anything down. Sunday is Drag queen night, so a show is put on, came out as Tina Turner, JLo, etc and you give them money. Too fun. Place wasn't crowded at all on a Sunday night. There is a body builder in briefs dancing on stage near another bar, us girls kept feeding him dollar bills. Parking is heinous, I lucked out with street parking, their lot fills up quickly because there are other gay clubs and bars on the same street. There was a little drama with one guy, he seemed to be having a little hissy fit and threw a stool at some dancers on the gogo boxes...a little jealous tete a tete?....hmmmmm Same sort of drama in straight clubs!

Masking tape was still on the staircase. My biggest complaint with the old Eagle was the creaky floor. Varsity fixed it by laying industrial floating tiles. It's not for dancing. The acoustic quality was terrible. It sounded like a dance party at high school gymnasium. They put a scoreboard on the big wall where it used to be a painting with the former bar. Upstair bar is usually packed. Clientele was mostly younger crowd. They sang songs with the music it was playing while dancing. Varsity installed several TV monitors on every single wall. Not sure what they trying to create. Extremely gaudy. That's not what a video dance bar should look like. Ugh. Not sure if I want to come back. The downstairs bar and dance floor were so empty. I went there on a Friday night. They turned off all TV's around 12:30 am. I was watching a cricket game while dancing. WTF!! I don't have a good taste after that.

This Play Nightlife bar is located at the former Hamburger Mary's and Buddy's aka Kiki's on Grant Street of the Montrose Gayborhood. The entire complex has Hollywood neon sign on it. The left side is called Club Pause. The right side is called Play Nightlife. Together they are called Pause/Play (like on the music machine). On the weekends, Club Pause opens at noon and music starts at 10 pm. There are other activities like karaoke nights on Wednesdays and Thirsty Thursday etc. I'm usually here on Friday and Saturday nights after 11 pm. Saturdays seem to have a bigger crowd. Club Pause has bounce music by DJ Jimmy D on Saturdays and Sundays. It's a place to hang out and dance. I like to dance at Play Nightlife because the deejays are from the former Eagle Houston. CJ Fader was the resident deejay upstairs and DJ Jimmy Skinner was the resident deejay downstairs. Music is more danceable than South Beach Houston. There are not many parking spots up front. People usually park elsewhere and bar hop to Play from neighboring bars. There are 2 taco trucks in the parking lot. My favorite food truck Pixi Dust Houston is previously called Eagle Eats. That explains why I come to Play Nightlife more often than any other gay bars in the Houston's Gayborhood.

The service is very warm and friendly, and the servers are incredibly attentive and happy to recommend different menu items. I went with some friends on a Friday afternoon and there was ample parking, quick seating and service. We got a bruschetta board, and I loved having the option to choose 4 from a wide assortment, from sweet to savory. The smoked salmon and bacon, tomato, burrata bruschetta were great, and the prosciutto ricotta fig was my favorite by far. All of them were on a delicious piece of toasted bread, and I thought it was a great deal. They are great to share as they are cut into 4 pieces. The interior was dimly lit, but warm, and the bathroom was clean and well-kept. The seating was comfortable and there was a variety of options from bar to booth. Overall, I would highly recommend coming!

Start with the Crispy Cauliflower, it was cooked just right the was very tasty. The romeseco sauce was tangy and the raisins were sweet added a nice complement of texture. For the entree. I choose "Select Two" with a Half Panini and salad; the Italian Beef dip Panini (no cheese on focaccia bread), the Green Garden Chicken Chop (no cheese). The Italian Beef Dip Panini was tasty... the dip was a bit too salty. You get a choice of bread, I selected the focaccia based on recommendation... such a good choice. The Green Garden Chicken Chop is a hardy salad and definitely a garden party, each bite gave a different texture and taste, I really like this one. This can be a place for family, friends or a date.

The ambiance was great for the holiday they had themed drinks and specials going on, which added a fun touch and made it feel festive without being chaotic. Definitely a solid spot if you're looking for somewhere social but still comfortable. The drinks were good, and overall the vibe was on point. It felt like a place you could hang out for a while, whether you're there to celebrate something or just have a few drinks with friends. One thing to note is they don't serve food, I did hear they rotate food trucks at times, but none were there when we went which was a bit of a downside, but they did allow us to bring in outside food, which honestly made up for it and gave us more options. Parking wasn't too bad when we went, and since it wasn't super packed, everything felt smooth and easy. Overall, great vibes, good drinks, and a fun place. Definitely a spot I'd come back to for a casual hangout or social night out.
