Went to Markus Schulz show because I love him so much expected to be a really good show but the venue has turned me down. The DJ booth was too high that you can barely see the DJ. They had really bad sound system(no bass, not loud enough), I've been to a lot of bars and clubs in Houston but they were the worst. I don't know why they can invite some big names DJ but let them play with their poor stereo system is such a shame. read more

So I paid 60$ on New Years 2021 to get in this place. For one I had to wait in line in the freezing weather I never have to wait in line anywhere else other clubs usually have everything organized and under control! So finally we make it in 5 min before New Years hits! Come inside and there's trash everywhere, smelled like puke. Bars were all sticky and wet and trash all over the bar... music was wack I couldn't vibe in the place it was so boring just WACK. Sound system sounded horrible my ears literally were gonna pop! Staff sucked security did a horrible job they were rude! Valet was all over the place. This place just sucked and I will never return and made sure my friends wouldn't either. Let me start by saying i work in the service industry as a business owner. The issue is as follows ..We were having a great evening.. Not many were in attendance at the bar so me a my buddy stood all night in the same place which was on the steps leading to the area where there was bottle service. We were not in anyone's way and in fact there was no one even using the table we stood by. we always moved if someone was passing by to give them right of way. Well 20 minutes before close a bouncer told us that we could not stand there anymore .. this was a total buzz kill and ruined a good evening. The bouncer said that management told them to move people i guess like us.. There was no signage saying private or do not stand. Remember 20 min before close. Well I ask for the GM. Ms. Applewhite came over and I explained why 20 mins before do this, why ruin a good night and then i said i could go anywhere in city but choose Rise. She nodded like she agreed or at least understood, said nothing to the bouncer that had ask us to move, did not say we could go back and stand there and NO APOLOGY, for how this all went down 20 mins before close. I can promise you this , I personally would never treat a patron to my business 20 mins before close like this... Be warned they have terrible customer service skills along with terrible people skills.. I will never be back to that place.. It shows why they dont get a crowd anymore. They are in a struggle because of competition in the area.. Rise will loose if they keep this kind of behavior up. They ruined a great evening i was having and now I am posting this. Not thrilled at all. The sound "engineer" should probably take a few refresher courses. Nothing but bass and drums. We used to laugh at the concept of "if it's too loud, you're too old." Well.....it was much too loud to hear what was being played. I love the band and will go see them again. To be fair, I am not club, bar type person. I was invited to a surprise birthday party for a work colleague of my husband. I looked the lounge up on line and even checked yelp reviews. I committed to go regardless but I just wanted to be prepared with knowing the dress code etc. The promotional photos shown on the Internet look so much more different that what I saw when I got there. I am going to put a positive spin on this review. I thought it was very interesting that it was really on the rooftop and for the most part open air and you could get an amazing view of part of the Houston skyline at night which was pleasant to look at. We were there on a Friday night. They are pretty high on safety and security. They checked my purse and asked to see my IDentification. I was actually kind of flattered by that, being that I will be 49 in a couple of months! They did a full body pat down for weapons on my husband and any other males entering the lounge. I've never experienced anything like that before but I guess it made me feel more safe and at ease knowing that no one would be shooting up the place. On the flip side of my comfort, I was wondering what kind of crowd does this lounge cater to that they have to do all that. Never the less, when in Rome.... We showed our eventbright invitation because the party host had a reserved section inside for guests and we got in free. We went up a staircase and as we entered, I noticed that the crowd was very young. The music was very dirty south hip hop. I actually prefer pop and country so I was really out of my element but I was going to make the most of the night. We found the party section but all the seats were taken so we went to the bar. I ordered a full carafe of a frozen red daiquiri. Our bartender offered me 2 cups for sharing and I told them it was just for me. He gave me a fancy white plastic goblet. My carafe was $17. It was a decent price for it. I have paid more for a double serving of Chardonnay at Ipic. I was pleased. He was very nice and kept a nice little conversation with my husband at the bar. My husband is 6ft9 so the first question everyone always asks is he a ball player or did he used to play ball. He did. The bartender told my husband that he played hockey. Me and my husband just people watched for about an hour. Mostly chuckling to ourselves because we have a 24 year old son who should be coming to a place like this. Not judging his colleague for having her 40th bday party at a young hip hop club like this but I guess it's just not for me. All in all, the place was clean, no riff raff and the bar staff were very friendly. The bottle girls wear one piece playboy type outfits with thong back. See photo If you valet your vehicle like we did, it takes a long time to get your car/truck back even if there isn't a line. The pregnant valet girl kept us entertained though. Extremely rude staff and security. Security over reacts about anything (kicked my friends out for my friends Gf literally leaning her head on her bf's shoulder for 2 seconds. I will admit the inside of the club is very cool looking. Drinks are $16 for weak small drinks (too expensive even for Houston Nightlife compared to everywhere else). WORST CLUB EVER!!! I wish I could give zero stars. Booked a table that was literally covered on ALL 5 sides by a platform, wall, trash cans, staircase and another wall!! Got moved to a "more expensive" table and was forced to cover a higher minimum, then the prices on the menu were cheaper than what we were charged. Took over an hour to get our first bottle. My $400 deposit that was supposed to go towards my first bottle wasn't added to the tab, and they won't refund it. You can't see the DJ from the floor because he is 10 feet in the air?? Awful design.... There aren't speakers on the left side of the building, so the sound is terrible.... I wish that was all.. Could go on forever about how bad this place is.... Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else!!! My New Year's Eve was completely ruined and I will never forget it. read more

I love to chime in on crazy extreme ratings of new clubs in town. From the point of view of yelp, almost always a high end dance club/bar is going to get a low overall rating as compared to a chilled hipster bar. Why? Because the general demographic of yelpers would rather not have to deal with the BS. Also, people who get in have a good time and generally just keep coming back, while others who had a TERRIBLE time would take the time to get to create an account and SHARE their experience. For that, is why I LOVE YELP. EVERYONE, can come on and give their real experience. In my case, the stars were swinging back and forth in my mind. I was invited to a birthday party for a friend's 30th and he had reserved before hand. He arrived early and we came at around midnight, at that time there was no line. I usually come dressed up, nice shoes, button down, blazer, etc, but I had been at a wedding from early in the morning and was dead TIRED. Decided to switch to very casual clothes, tennis shoes and a black tshirt. I figured it was just a bar so, maybe. As we rolled up, my friend who was dressed up, was allowed in with no problem, but I was held up at the door, because of my shoes. My friend went up to find the manager to get confirmation if I could get in. The manager actually came down and said if I got different shoes he could deal with the black tshirt. Lucky, for us, my friend had a back-up pair in the trunk, that I was not happy to be forced to change into, since they were a bit small for me, but was willing if that meant I could get in. Walked to the car, and the bouncer, Jessie, was true to his word, walked straight to the front and was let in no questions asked. At this point I was at least happy to see the bouncer/manager had a consistent policy and stuck to their word. While, I waited downstairs, I stood calmly at the front of the line next to the velvet rope. Some people actually walked up and handed me their IDs thinking I was the bouncer. HA! But the bouncer was very consistent. He was OK with letting women in, he was even hesitant on couples unless both were nicely dressed. They kept this dress discrimination fair across all races. So that's why I was given the options shoes or out, I wanted to confirm if they business practices were actually true to their words. Once upstairs, I was shocked to see the OLD ROOF, with an added P, looked so nice! They took out the booths inside that took up so much space, and added in some stand up tables for people to mingle. They cut holes in the wall to have an open patio look. They repositioned the outside bar in an area which allows for better flow. Added in free darts in the corner. As I expected, when I got upstairs it was NOT PACKED. With a diverse range of people, with more women then men. So the best thing I would tell people is, if you are expecting a big group, CALL AHEAD, set up a party. And tell all of your friends, DRESS UP, no excuses. Only 2 stars because when we visited for our first time in (mid summer) we showed up early for the opening 80s band. They were awesome and played their characters well. Especially the guy wearing head to toe in black. idk how he managed. This venue was easily comparable to my backyard greenhouse except it was on an enclosed roof top with no ac... if I felt sketch? Very neat venue for concerts. Ours was all standing so didn't get to try to table/balcony/booths but everyone there was having a great time. Retractable roof very cool. Bartenders very super nice and very efficient-and the place takes cash!! Only bump was the valet charged when dropped off and then didn't bother to put the payment in the system-so got to pay again. If you're not one of the bouncer's/doorman's buddies, get ready to get charged $10 for trying to wear a hat in (or scarf, or jacket, or whatever random thing they can say to trick you into giving them easy cash if you're foolish like I was) and then for them to demand that you leave it with them. Yes, this really happened--and the bouncer was blabbering about the other guys (his friends) having paid a $20 "entry fee" to wear it in (what?). Of course when asked those people didn't have to pay a fee. Told the front door guys that and they started freaking out on us. I've never seen anything like this in my life. But whatever, I did it because some of my classmates reserved the place or something for an end of the semester party, and I wanted to say hi. The club itself was okay. It wasn't gross but isn't anywhere near as posh as they think it is. The atmosphere upstairs is nice but it was mostly empty except the people I knew. It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect a city bar to look like, just partially outdoors. They have some unclean looking hookah there but you have to pay $40 cash for it, and I didn't exactly want to pay that much for laryngitis so that wasn't happening We got bored after about a half hour and left. Front door guy started talking down to me (until my boyfriend stepped in) when I asked for the hat back. He tried to tell me to "stop flapping my gums" because "promotional photos look bad if you're wearing hats" or something silly like that. Ok... so even if you weren't letting other people with hats on in for free right in front of us, listen. Dude. It's just another dirty Houston bar, not a yacht club. It ain't that serious. As far as club type places go, this is not a terrible place - even for us old guys. They have a nice big 2nd floor patio (the bar is on the 2nd floor of the Reef restaurant) which used to have a nice view before all the 4 story apartments got built around it, a dance area if you're into that sort of thing, and most importantly, the staff there were not douche bags like a lot of Washington area bars and clubs. If you get there around 10~10:30 on the weekends, there will be a small line, but it moves along. If you get there past that, expect to stand in line with the velvet rope and usual night club types of shenanigans, but the crowd here is very diverse from Indians, Asians, Blacks, Middle Easterners, White people, and of course the "Dude Bro" versions of all the aforementioned groups. read more

How did I not know about this place earlier? Oh yeah, because it's tucked away behind Reef and the sign is Batman-signal-style projected onto a wall way above my normal vision line at night. After walking up a flight of stairs, you are welcomed with the sight of a food truck (Miso Yummy was parked there that night) and a rooftop bar and patio area. At first, the rooftop seemed pretty un-glamorous (the description of a glorified parking lot seems apt), but the table setup and strung-up lights ended up giving it a pretty lounge-y modern atmosphere. I was there in the company of Jeffrey C., so my experience was quite similar to his. I just got back from Vegas and this place is shockingly similar- from the crazy lines (more like a mob) waiting to get in, to the security guards escorting overly-drunk guys out (come on, it's only 11:45pm and you can't stand up?) If it's a nice night outside (like it was on this Saturday night), expect to wish that a dude with bottle/table service will invite you over- or else you will be sucked into the hoards of people just awkwardly standing on the periphery of all the nice booths and tables outside. The music was on point, a mix of hip hop, 90's, and current top 40 hits. The DJ was great, made sure to adjust the volume according to the crowd. and, thank goodness, no lounge-y boring oonst-oonst electronic music (sorry, Europeans, this is Houston). However, no one was dancing, save for a few awkward guys and really drunk girls here and there. Luckily, we had a table and bottle service, and our server was very attentive. The atmosphere was great for hanging out and people-watching, and the weather couldn't have been better. There are big outdoor heating lamps for chillier days, but I too wonder how they will fare during the humid, famously sweaty Houston summer days yet to come. My experience was great because we had reservations, the weather was fantastic, and we got there relatively early-- but this seems like the type of place that you'd have to say "it depends." read more

So the bouncer didn't let one of my guy friends in because he had on a crew maroon neck shirt that said banana republic....but he said that V neck shirt is okay...wtf. Went on different occasions which was mostly on Fridays, and I guess it depends on what YOU'RE really looking for. Although I do like the outdoor rooftop theme I hate the heat that comes with it. This place is good to get together with some friends or maybe a last minute outing but I'm at the point I would be okay if I never came here again. First, parking SUCKS!!!!! I paid for parking and my car window got busted out along with 4 other cars. As much as I've gone out this has never happened to me before. Secondly, I feel like the lounge doesn't stick to their "dress code" policy. First they say no strapless sandals, but I saw few ladies with them on and others were turned away. The same for the guys. I heard them tell some guys they couldn't come in with jerseys on, but they let other guys in with jerseys on. I'm not sure if the guys who were able to get in paid them on the low or what, but I feel like policies should be one way no exceptions. The drinks, ehh, I've had better. I tasted water and alcohol...didn't like it! The crowd was a mix of young professionals, with a little of ratchetness. Most people wore whatever they were comfortable in. I will say the pasta and wings were good, but after a certain time the wings are $1 per wing...no thanks! I wouldn't say NOT to check this place out, but I will say don't have high expectations. Was literally discriminated against. After talking with a few different people, because of mine and my group's race, we were charged a higher valet parking price as well as cover charge. Came here on Valentine's Day with my girlfriends to celebrate Galentine's Day, and I have to say, I was impressed. We went pretty early around 11:30 and there was no line. When you walk up the stairs, it opens up into a huge wooden deck. There was a sushi&ramen food truck parked up there along with a couple of nice cars. They had some really nice valentines themed decorations covering the entire place-- rose petals, balloons, and the best part was the complimentary champagne and cupcakes! The outside patio is really nice with lots of seating: love seats, tables, and booths. And when you walk inside there's a DJ and a small dance floor. Upstairs they even have an arcade! (Unfortunately you have to pay for the games) We left before it got crowded, so we had a pretty great time there! It looked like the line was getting really long around 12:30 though, so try to get there early. Overall, great atmosphere, very classy, and fun! read more

I was invited to a birthday party here on a Saturday night when Proof happened to be hosting a luau. Every once in a while, there would be some event on stage - Samoan fire knives, limbo, etc. We were able to watch from our own table with bottle service, which was easily reserved by showing up early before the herds. Proof hosted a great event! The large space that Proof owns allows many different rooms to naturally create some crowd control, so the bar is never jam-packed. Replete with pig ice sculptures, decorations, and a roast pig, they definitely pulled off a successful party. read more

Been hearing good things about this place for a while but never found myself going until this last weekend. We went for the Summerland concert with Sponge, Filter, Live and Everclear playing in their parking lot. The concert went very well. They did a good job as a venue for a large concert and hope to see more stuff like that in midtown. We spent time at the bar itself between acts and I was impressed with the rooftop layout and decor. Bartender was swamped but was patient with my five people order I gave him. Prices weren't terrible either. The place has misters and fans all over the rooftop which is a must in summer but something lots of other places haven't caught on to for some reason. Don't know about the regular crowd on just bar nights bu the mix from the concert and bar goers seemed like most other midtown locales in the area. Will be back for more. read more

I went on a Friday night (August 3 2018) during "TX Greek picnic weekend and I was feeling this spot. Granted, I know the turnout was crazier than normal, because it was special event weekend, so a lot of out of towners came through. However, I could tell that this place would be a good look on any Friday night. I liked the set up, the ambiance, the vibe, and as long as it doesn't rain, I don't see why anyone wouldn't have an enjoyable and sociable night here. The only reason I can't give Proof Rooftop Lounge 5 stars is because they don't have a large dance floor. I know this is the era of sections, but my principles and love of showing women what it's made for on the dance floor will not allow me to give any nightclub a 5 star rating that doesn't have a large dance floor. I'm new to the Houston area so I really don't have other bars to compare this one to, but my experience there was pretty good. We got there at around 10:30pm so there was no line to get int, it has indoor and outdoor seating, we stayed outside and ordered hookah. The drinks were nothing out of the ordinary but the service was fast even when it got super crowded later. What I really enjoyed about this place is that outside you can just enjoy your drinks and talk to your friends since it is not particularly loud. However, inside the music is louder and there's a dance floor so you can go in. It's a good balance. read more
