My friend and I are so glad discovered this wonderful little shop YOUNG DONUT SHOP nestled in the shopping mall on the southwest corner of Kolb and Speedway. When you enter you are greeted with a quaint recorded "hello, welcome". The elderly shop owners are so kind and the quality and selection of donuts is Yummy! Why quaint? This little shop not only has donuts, but a wide variety of beverages, candy, and things you might not expect to find like tiny crystal earrings! This is worth the drive if you're anywhere in north Tucson! Clean store, friendly staff. Perhaps the BEST apple fritter(s)....you can't eat just one...that I've ever had. Their buttermilk donuts are not round. They are like little cakes. Delicious. I was hesitant because I like dark chocolate frosting, but the flavor of these donuts is awesome. I used to go here all the time with my best friend who is Asian. I went back with my mom (we are non white) he was so rude and said what do you want. I said is it ok for me to look and then decide(no one even in there was in the afternoon) Kept saying what do you want, you need to choose. So rude I left without buying anything. My favorite donut shop in Tucson!! Every few weeks I drive across town to get a donut because they are that good!!!! Great selection and I have yet to be disappointed in anything I get. I love cake donuts, which are amazing here, and this is the only place I'll choose yeast-based donuts because they're delicious. Ok, can you review a place without having gone there? You see, I've had the donuts thrice now, and I can't calorically afford to enter the building. It's too close to work. It's open too late. The apple fritters are too juicy (the secret is the coconut). The chocolate icing is too real. This is a simple humble place and they let their donuts do the talking. If you are into grumpy dispositions, then you are in for a treat! You are guaranteed to receive a grumpy look from the "Donut Nazi" upon entering his establishment. This grumpy soul is the owner. If you ask too many questions, BEWARE! He may just say, "No Donuts For You!!" I believe his wife and son should keep him in the back and not allow him in the front serving customers. If they are not careful, he will kill there lively hood and the doors will close to this business. He seems upset that he even has to be there to sell his donut. Maybe he has lost his passion and has given up on his business. I know that everyone seem to love these donut but we were not very impressed. They were just the average donut. At noon there were only about 6 verities of donut and maybe around 1 dozen each, if that. So I assume it's best to come early. The Donut Nazi stated to come at 7am to get better choices. Will we come back? Absolutely not. The atmosphere is hot and stuffy. As we sat down at one of their 3 tables we were joined by 3 buzzing flies buzzing their song around our heads. I don't mean to sound mean or hurtful, it just wasn't the best experience. PLEASE MR. DONUT MAN (MR. YOUNG), A KIND WORD OR GREETING CAN GO A LONG WAY IN MAKING SOMEONE'S DAY. The first four times we tried to stop by Young Donuts, they were closed - twice because they were on holiday vacations beyond just the particular holiday itself (Thanksgiving & Christmas) and twice because they closed up shop before their advertised 6pm closing. We decided not to be deterred, to consider our failed attempts at scoring some Young Donuts as all good signs. Yep, the extended holiday closings proved to be because they're a family business and we're pretty sure the early closings meant they sold out of their splendid wares before the designated closing time. No sense staying open with nothing to sell! OMG, so glad we tried a 5th time! Fantastic donuts at a fantastic price. Get there early and bring cash - they do not take plastic! read more

By far my favorite simple donut shop I have been to in Tucson by a long sight. The owners are wonderful and give you a free donut (of their choice, but still!) if you buy a half dozen or more, and a dozen regular donuts (anything except croissants pretty much) is like $6.50 with tax, and even if you get one or two croissants they only add 50c extra, which believe me is worth it. Those croissants are amazing, haven't tried the savory one but the blueberry, cheese and chocolate are all fantastic, my favorite being the chocolate ones which are the closest I've found to a French style "pan au chocolat" even including the fancy French bakeries... Tips: Get there early. I cannot stress this enough if you want full selection. They only make one batch a day afaik (and have seen). By 10 or 11am at least 50%, if not more of the best ones are out or almost out. By 3 or 4 they are down to the dregs almost every time I have been in there that late. (That would be the only thing that would make me love this place even more, as they open at say 5am and closed at 7 or 8ish and have the demand certainly for an early afternoon restock, it saddens me that they don't top up the best sellers whatsoever) The filled donuts, especially the lemon, raspberry, and Boston Creme are all fantastic. You at least have to try one of the buttermilk donuts (rings or bars), plain or chocolate. You don't see these many places but they are fantastic and unusual and are better than most donuts if you don't eat them almost immediately. Even 24 hours later if you throw them in the microwave for 20 secs it's still very decent for a day old. Overall I cannot rate this place higher, I do live a block away but I have been to several other shops and nothing has stood out as better than here, and certainly not for their prices. These remind me of the best donuts I have had in NYC or SF. A must go for any donut lover remotely in the area. read more

I have always LOVED glazed donuts ever since I can remember, so when I took the time to drive over to Young Donuts on Saturday morning I was not disappointed with the results. The glazed donut was so sweet, soft and flaky it made Krispy Kreme glazed donuts taste like an old shoe. read more

My review of Young Donuts is not based on the donuts, but rather my experience.. I entered and there was no staff around.. I started to browse and noticed the "cash only" sign, which unfortunatly wasnt going to work since I did not have any cash - usually its a $10 minimum, and I full expected to order that many dounts to take home to try. Anyway, an older man came from the back and basically growled at me. I said that I was sorry and that I didnt have any cash - he stared me down all the way outside to my car. I didn't make him box up some donuts or pull a bunch of stuff out for me. He literally walked around the corner and started to scowl. I won't be back simply because of this. read more

Donuts were fair but the customer service was appalling! The man that waited on us made it clear that he really didn't want to be there and even less wanted to wait on us. He treated us with disdain and when he had to repeat something he had previously mumbled to my wife, he snapped at her. It is beyond understanding how the doors remain open if that is the face of the business that customers see in a daily basis. We will never go back and will be sure to let others know of our experience. This is a rarity these days to be treated so offensively by someone in public service!!! Picked up a dozen on Sunday. Didn't try any of the Risen ones but they were a hit with everyone and the cake donuts that I did eat were quite delicious. Light yet rich and definitely not too dense. Donuts are very good but hospitality is absolutely AWFUL! I pulled up to the store at 6:42 am and the owner was outside...I politely asked him if they were open and he responded back very condescending "Don't you see the door is open? Can't you read the sign that says Open? You tell me what you think?"..shaking his head. If you look on Yelp, which I did, the store hours claim 7am-9pm. If my kids didn't want donuts so bad I would have dropped that dude...very direspectful! Light as air, not greasy at all. The Boston cream filing was not homemade, but less chemical-tasting than most. The cinnamon crumb was my favorite. The raised donuts are impossibly light and fluffy, and probably the best in town. read more

Easily the best donuts you can find in Tucson. I Drive well over five miles out of my way to come here. Got to get here early though if you want to have the best selection of donuts. They go the extra mileband sometimes throw couple extra donut holes in there for you. The crumb glazed and coffee glazed donuts are the best. Make sure you bring cash. If you do forget there is an ATM machine inside but you can get several donuts for the fee thats charged. ENJOY! read more

I love, love, LOVE donuts! I was visiting my sister in Tucson, and on our way home from the airport, saw this donut shop right around the corner from her house, so decided we should visit the next morning. This place was FANTASTIC. I can't say enough good things. There was a large variety of donuts, and the lady was extremely friendly--plus the donuts were really cheap! I had something called a Tiger Tail, which I had a few more times during my visit. (I went to this shop 4 out of the 5 days I was there.) Every time I went she was always nice and gave me either free donut holes or a free donut. Just FYI it is a cash only bakery, so make sure you have a few dollars with you. My friends and I have been trying different local donut shops every week, and I have to say that youngs was the best! From service to taste, it was all excellent. The woman working behind the counter was very friendly, much more so than other places I have been, and she was patient and helpful while we made our selections. When we left we realized she even gave our friend a few free donut holes and she gave us a free donut in our dozen! Such a nice thought that really made our day. The prices were also very reasonable and they didn't charge anything additional for some of the "fancy" donuts that we added to our dozen.
