I've been coming here for years, with my Rising Savor fandom starting from my freshman year at UCR. To this day, it remains my #1 choice in Chinese fast food. I like their chow mein and fried rice. Plus, the portions are so humungous that they may have a hard time closing down your box. On one occasion, the box even cracked but I am not complaining! The savory chicken is sweet and when fresh out of the oven, has a perfect crispy texture. The orange chicken is also good here! The BBQ pork is meaty, juicy, and flavorful. I usually get the BBQ pork and beef and broccoli. (I need my veggies fixin' too!) The beef and broccoli is what you would expect. Tender pieces of beef with large pieces of broccoli. You can get a large fountain drink for $2.11 including tax. Two combo plates (with 2 entrees each) comes out to about $12 total. Plus, you can get a discount if you attend a local college/university. The discount used to apply to only UCR students but that has changed. What has also changed is that they are now open Sundays! My only gripe was them not having BBQ pork, savory chicken, or beef and broccoli when I was last here! On another visit, they were out of BBQ pork. (It's a popular choice!) The cashier told me it would take an hour for them to come out. While eating there, the beef and broccoli came out in about 15 minutes. The other female worker was more helpful and was able to provide more accurate estimates on when the other items were coming out. Overall, friendly servers though and I'd still come back. I hadn't been to Rising Savor for quite a while, but used to go there a lot when I worked nearby. I finally made it back there today for lunch and was not disappointed. I ordered the Combo A with chow mein noodles, rice, and orange chicken. The noodles were pretty basic but tasty. The rice was loaded with white pepper, which I love, so I really enjoyed that. The orange chicken was very good with big pieces of chicken and the perfect amount of sauce. One caveat for vegetarians and people with seafood allergies - the cream cheese wontons are not just cream cheese. They have bits of surimi (fake crab) in them, more like a crab Rangoon. It was odd that they didn't label them that way since they have a food allergies safety poster right there at the beginning of the line. Rising Savor gets extra points for making sure there were plenty of the sauces and condiments I asked for in the bag. Other Chinese places nearby are a little stingy with theirs. Love coming to this place they always give a lot of food which is why I come. The food is pretty good and I love their egg rolls the reason this rating is so low is because there was something in my food that shouldn't have been there some long metallic coil right in the mix of my noodles if it weren't for me and my mom splitting the food and serving ourself in different plates we would have never seen it. This place used to be hands down my favorite spot for Chinese food but it's gone way down hill. Not only is it more expensive (basically $10 for a 2 item combo) but they give you a lot less food than they used to. I understand that inflation is a thing which explains the need to raise but they skimp on the portions now. Quality of the food has also gone down. You're almost always guaranteed a ton of food when you come here but that really depends on your server. Some days you'll find the hot trays lacking and sad looking, and other days the opposite. If you want the best bang for your buck, I believe Rising Savor is the best place to go for. I got the three item combo and boy do they stack it. I got the noodles with orange chicken, beef with broccoli and bbq pork and they put so much that they needed to use tape in order to close the container. The flavor was not bad either and I believe it tastes better compared to other Chinese fusion restaurants. Customer service is great and there is plenty of seating available. Prices are great, the lady working the line (most of the time alone) was extremely nice, and most importantly they give loads of their food. This use to be my fave takeout spot portions were great and it was a good price for how much you get. They use to have to tape the plate to keep it closed. I know it's been through a few new management hands. This current one is disappointing. They want to charge for every sauce, they have watered down the hot sauce egregiously. This place is very mediocre for Chinese fast food. The quality isn't the greatest. Food is extremely oily, and the meats are very fatty. I got the bbq pork, orange chicken, and broccoli beef with chow mein. The bbq pork was mainly pieces of fat, and the orange chicken was soft instead of crunchy. You could also tell the beef was tenderized by baking soda because the texture was so different. The portion sizes they give basically make up for the quality of the food. I've spent 4 years at UC Riverside essentially avoiding the plaza in which Rising Savor is based in. After hearing about this place, I decided that I should try it out. The overall experience left me quite pleased; however there are one or two complaints and they will be addressed below. From the outside, the place doesn't look like much. It looks pretty dull, but that's a given since every other shop next to it has the same architecture. Inside is pretty average for a chinese fast food place (white floors, heat lamps, etc). So let's go to the food. I ordered BBQ pork and savory chicken, with the chicken being highly recommended, and I can see why after tasting it. The chicken literally melts in your mouth and leaves you churning for more. The overall texture of it is the same as plain old orange chicken, but it tastes like no other. The BBQ pork on the otherhand was unexpected in terms of taste. I am from the San Gabriel area and have grown accustomed to BBQ pork from places like Sam Woo. This BBQ pork is perhaps the first place outside of San Gabriel where it nearly matches what I can get at home Let's get to the downside. The fried rice is decent but the chow mien was disappointing. The BBQ pork was good but lacked the sort of juiciness you would expect elsewhere. A majority of the dishes were chicken based, so variety is sort of out of the question. Still, for $6 for a 2 item combo plate, this is still worth overlooking these minor complaints. I've shopped at the Panda. I've eaten at Hong Kong Express. And today I've been to Rising Savor. If I had to choose one, it would be to not eat at Panda Express. Hong Kong Express has better side dishes (chow mien, less greasy), but Rising Savor has better entrees. Rising Savor is a bit of a love/hate relationship for me. Very very cheat reasonable eats at low low price. When I first started going to rising savor, I use to always order the 3 item combo. Believe me, every air molecule in the Styrofoam box is converted in to greasy Chinese food. I learned the hard way that too much of a good thing is very bad. My roommate use to say they don't call it Rising Savor for nothing, I will explain more later. Pretty much every dishes is decent quality, not spectacular, but remember this is Riverside. Top Ramen is better than most "chinese" food in Riverside. So for UCR students and smokers this is a much needed taste of Asian food. Some of the item I like to order are Teryaki Chicken (4 whole breast pieces counts as an item), BBQ pork (two large piece cut up), hot wings, beef broccoli, and mushroom chicken. It is arrange like a normal take out place with items laid out for you to choose. I recommend white rice just to cut back on the grease of the fried rice or noodles. Trust me you will thank me later. Now my 3 item days are over. **WARNING DO NOT READ Further** Consider yourself warned! I usually only get a 2 item to share or pick one item and stick to it. Rising Savor was my go to place and should receive 4 stars by most people, but now I will explain the "rising" part. Rising definition - Ascending, sloping upward, or advancing. I will describe this trying to be at least graphic as possible. When I was a kid I use to rate restaurants on how they taste and how they settle. In other words, my In-N-Out theory. Your food must be as satisfying IN as it is OUT. RS fails the out test. Like laxative or weight loss pills. I guarantee if you eat more than one item. You will receive twice as much OUTput for every INput. This results in an occasional visit, 3 stars. read more

Been here a few times so I'm ready to review. Portion sizes are huge, can't even keep the lid on the container closed huge. I pretty much always get beef/broccoli and orange or savory chicken. I generally prefer orange chicken but the first couple times I got it, the chicken was all soggy, yet the savory chicken is consistently crunchy. Today the orange chicken was on point, nice and crunchy and saucy. The beef and broccoli is consistently good, I don't know how they cook the beef but damn is it tender. It falls apart just by squeezing it with chopsticks. The girls are cute and very nice, not like in some other places where you get a shitty attitude and shittier service. I'm from out of town, just started attending UCR and I come here consistently to get my Chinese food fix. Would definitely recommend. Two things that you should know: 1) They close the kitchen an hour before closing. 2) They prioritize Grubhub orders over people actually in the restaurant. I'm so bummed about my visit this evening. I went in around 7:50p with 3 people ahead of me. I waited about 15 min. for my turn. When I got to the counter, I looked down the steam table and realized that they were already very low on items. I asked the server if they would be replacing the missing items, but was told that they had already closed the kitchen and no new items would be coming out. Not even made to order items. Then someone announced something from the back, and the server asked me to wait a moment. Sure, no problem. Then she proceeded to check a small screen and start serving plate. Many of the few items left got scooped up into boxes. I asked what those plates were for, and she replied, "Grubhub." "Oh, so I have to place my order online to actually get food?" I replied. She replied, "It's a different price." Got it. You prioritize online orders because you make more money that way. I get it. It's just a bummer to get treated like that after waiting so long. I left and went to Panda Express. They might as well close at 8:30. I get that they need to sell the "leftovers" that hadn't sold yet, but seriously, if you're out of staples like chow mien at 8:10p, why bother? Rising Savor is a little hidden jewel. My family has mixed dietary needs. One loves it all but most are vegetarians and Rising Savor accommodates us all. We always call in our order because they make tofu dishes on request. Our favorite is the tofu and vegetable dish made with white sauce. It's delicious! I'm new to the area and this was the closest Chinese food place. The other reviewers aren't exaggerating; you definitely get your money's worth because they fill up those plates nice and tall. The orange chicken was delicious and tasted like it had JUST been made. I finished the entire combo in one sitting because it was THAT delicious. They don't accept CSUSB IDs as a college ID (to get a student discount) so that sucked. :( However, this establishment is clean and the employees are friendly. I went by here around closing time and wasn't too impressed but I figured it was because the food had been sitting out for so long by then. Sooo I gave it another try today and was even more disappointed. I got mushroom chicken and kung pau chicken along with chow mein. The mushrooms were great... the chicken was gross. It was flavorless and mushy like breaded chicken fat. The kung pau was equally flavorless. I'm not sure what was wrong with the chow mein. After two packets of soy sauce it was still bland. Somehow! Sure, they pack a LOT of food in those containers but what's the point if you struggle to take every bite? I might have been doubly unlucky so don't solely rely on my review since this place has generally positive reviews. Maybe try the orange chicken or something else though. read more

The plus side is that they cram food into the box for maybe dinner and breakfast, and they also give a 10% discount if you show your student ID from UCR (yay for poor college students). But other than that nothing really special. I got half fried rice and half chow mien with their savory chicken and BBQ pork. The fried rice was like any other but the chow mien was oily and lacked some flavor. Their house special savory chicken isn't all too special, its almost similar to orange chicken just with a little spicy kick to it. The BBQ pork though was pretty good, its similar to that found in other Chinese places. Portions are huge. They literally have to tape the togo box because it's so stuffed that it won't stay shut on its own. The first time I came here I was disappointed that they weren't making anymore bbq pork that night. But luckily this time they cooked up a fresh batch for me and my friend. The pork was nice and moist, with that signature chewiness you expect from Chinese style (not necessarily Chinese) bbq pork. I also got orange chicken which had a nice crispy outer layer and had a generous heaping of sauce that wasn't too salty or tangy. ~$7.50 for the 3 item combo gets you enough food to eat for 2, maybe 3 meals. This place is literally a hidden gem. The location and store appearance makes it seem like just any other fast food chinese restaurant but this is not your typical greasy fast food chinese joint. They put great quality and effort into their food, it is always freshly replaced and steaming hot most of the times I've ordered. If it isn't they recommend you to wait for the next fresh batch instead of greedily trying to scrape you the last remaining pieces like other Chinese food joints. The thing that really separates this place from the rest and why they are deserving of a 5 star rating is that they really care about you. The restaurant is family owned. I always see the same two men working (I'm assuming father and son) and they put great care in their craft. The number one main thing you need to know to persuade you to go here though is that they ARE VERY GENEROUS! Generous is an understatement to be honest. They really pack their plates and bowls really fat for you and it is enough to fill two stomachs. Overall the owner and employees are really nice and efficient.
