I wanted a really nice dinner of pasta & had heard nice things about this "hidden gem." Stuck in a hotel while my kitchen is being renovated, I decided to order dinner. This triple pasta dinner was to include Penne a la vodka, pasta alfredo, & a pomodoro? The alfredo was flavorless, undercooked farfelle with a milky sauce - no flavor, not thick with milk, butter or parmesan cheese, or even a touch of fresh parsley,...then TWO red penne dishes, side by side. First, the penne vodka tasted of no shallots or garlic- bland & again, undercooked. And, next to the pomodoro? No taste. Didn't they have any other pastas? Why use TWO penne's & why place them side by side? The portion was ridiculously huge! It was delivered in a 9x12 aluminum baking tray. No flatware, no napkin, no roll (They send a 5" personal pizza instead?!), no receipt. And the worst part? Yelp said they were open until 9:30, but when trying to call to complain, there was no answer, but I was asked to put in a remote code. I wanted a credit. Perhaps I can reheat some of the food with some spices & herbs & make something edible with the visually unappealing & 3 woefully tasteless, undercooked pasta dishes. What a waste of money. What a shame since this restaurant has a good reputation for many years. Perhaps the chef had the night off? Or perhaps they have strayed & lost their passion for cooking. P.S. I called the next day & spoke to the manager (said he was)... his basic answer was 'that's the way we serve it' & 'maybe you should come in & try it in the restaurant since it's different when delivered.' I said that I wasn't interested in paying for the same dish again - he offered nothing! I confirmed with 'so that's your answer?...you have nothing to offer?' Okay. The food is decent, not great. Pleasant atmosphere. Service average. Upsides: we were seated promptly, the staff was polite and the attention was good. Note: I don't want my server hovering every 2-3 minutes, it gets annoying. They were out of the snapper (I really wanted to try the snapper with crabmeat). I had veal piccata, my companion had the mahi-mahi special. Downsides: Even though we put a bottle of wine on the table, we had to ask for wine glasses. Fortunately, it was a screw cap, they did not offer to cork it for us. Her salad was a handful of spring mix thrown on the plate. I ordered soup and never got it. When I said something, they did take it off the bill at least. They bring a couple of complimentary appetizers--some bruschetta, it was good, and a small cheese pizza--and when we said we didn't want it, and wouldn't eat it, the server acted offended. Had dinner reservations at 6 pm with friends. Party of 8. I honestly don't know how anyone can rate service here 5*. Anything but. There is a serious staffing issue. After 90 minutes our food came out one at a time. One came out 15 mins after everyone else had theirs. One person never got their side dish. The bread was awful for an Italian restautant. It should have been served warm. I guess all these excellent reviews are from people who have very low expectations or never really had an excellent meal anywhere. Maybe we just hit a bad night but we would never return. read more

It's amazing! It's so underrated. I visited with my family on a Friday night at seven and left around 8:30, and there was nobody else the entire time. The food is amazing- every time I go I get the set dinner #2 with the Caesar salad as my appetizer and the Alfredo pasta and eggplant parmigiana. It is always so good! My family also always enjoys their food, too. The only reason I took one star off was because of the service. My family and I never mind, but some other people might, so I wanted to give an honest reflection of the restaurant, not just based on the food. Sometimes the servers seem a little all over the place, and we've had different servers each time, but in the end we always get what we order, and it's always good, plus the service is never bad, just hectic. Overall, I'd give it a 9/10 and I recommend it to anyone! read more

How is this place 4 stars? All of the food we ordered was terrible across the board. We decided to get the the veal with asparagus and a side of spaghetti and meatballs as well as the penne arrabbiata. The lunch special also came with minestrone soup and a salad. I hated my meal. The veal was sour and had a pasty coating on it, as if it was pre-made and sitting in the fridge all week. Definitely spoiled. The asparagus was clearly from a can. Salad, I kid you not, was a small plate of lettuce with a tiny slice of tomato on top. Even crappy restaurant side salads have an olive or 2 or some carrot shreds. This was just lettuce. Mmmm lettuce. The Minestrone was okay and probably the best aspect of the meal, but it was drastically under-seasoned and a tiny portion, maybe a half cup. The dining room was nice enough and the staff was pleasant, but the sure sign that something was up here was the fact that there were no other patrons in the place. I mean, it's noon on a Friday and it's empty? I realize it's Richboro, PA and not a bustling city; but certainly, if a place is good, people will be eating lunch there...especially they're offering an $9 lunch special. Anyway, I don't see how these guys can stay open serving awful food like this. One star. read more

Came here as a last second option for dinner as a party of 11. I do understand a big party can take a while in a restaurant. And it's appreciated that we were given a couple little free appetizers while we wait for our food, but some individual appetizers such as soup came out at different times, cold and I didn't get mine and when offered I didn't even want it at that point any more. People came in after us, got their food, ate, and left before we even finished getting the rest of our starters. One of our party members is a child with celiacs and ordered a gluten free pasta and had to sit here hungry for well over an hour because the appetizers were not gluten free. Food was mediocre at best. We were here for an unnecessary almost 3 hours. Tonight was just ridiculous. Will not be coming back. read more

This wonderful family-owned and -run Italian restaurant deserves to be discovered by Yelpers and non-Yelpers alike. We were tantalized by Gerald S's review, and we felt compelled to investigate. As others have noted, this restaurant's location is non-obvious, and we wandered around he Mallard Creek Shopping Center for awhile before we finally found the restaurant's front door. The restaurant has about two dozen tables that are split between the main dining room and a much smaller, secondary room. We were greeted by a lovely woman named Sandy, who was functioning as both maitre d' and server. Within moments of our taking our seats, a plate with freshly-made bruschetta appeared. It was delicious. The menu offered two prix fixe alternatives at $14.95 and $17.95, as well a la carte options. We selected the $17.95 option, which included three courses. For our first course, we selected the Caesar salad. Denicola's version was quite good, with a well-balanced, not overly salty dressing. While we were enjoying our salads, a personal size pizza was delivered to the table. It was thin-crusted with a mild but flavorful sauce and a light sprinkling of cheese. Sandy next served a plate of house-made Italian sausage, peppers and onions. Mr. M enjoyed every bit of this unexpected intermezzo. Our dinner plates included both our pasta and protein courses: Spaghetti and meat sauce plus flounder stuffed with crab for Mr. M and farfalle with salmon in a blush sauce plus chicken with asparagus and portobellos in a white wine sauce for me. The blush sauce stood out because the tomato was still vibrant (usually the tomatoey goodness is totally obscured by the other ingredients. Our entrees were delicious, and the portions so large that we left with 75% of the meal in our take-away bag. They made for a delicious Sunday night dinner. My only quibble with the meal was that the toast base of the bruschetta was not as crisp as it could have been. read more

Ristorante Denicola has been around for more than a decade, but I just found out about it last week. Two Yelp friends introduced me to this fine Italian house when we met for dinner a few nights ago, and but for their detailing its location in the Mallard Creek Shopping Center I would never have seen it. Intentionally or not, it is a well kept (hidden) secret. The front door is inconspicuous, like a secondary entrance near green/white awnings that feel like the porch in the back of a home. Walking in, it is surprisingly large with rough hewn wood horizontal panels, dark tones, carpet, and nicely spaced tables. We sat is the corner in an otherwise empty dining room. Our server was well known to my friends, and she took very good care of us all night. This family business' signature style is to deliver much more than expected in the form of non-ordered extra dishes that are a surprising addition to the meal. For us, they dropped off Grilled Veggie Antipasto, Tomato Bisque, Homemade Sausage Pizza, Chicken Breast Joey (a piccata/marsala feel) and Cannoli, on top of our main courses. All this was a meal unto itself. When they then deliver a large plate of Penne A'glio Olio with Sautéed heavily Garliced Spinach, the result was taking most of it home. I'm not complaining, but it again brought to the forefront my discomfort with intentional excess in a world full of hunger. Here's the ironic part of the experience - my pasta was very good; al dente with well browned Garlic Chips mixed into the Spinach and Red Pepper dusted Penne. It was the best of my samplings, but the one I ate the least of because I was already full from everything that came surrounding it. The gratis accompaniments were also good, but a step down from the main course. The Antipasto had fresh cut tomato, onion and cilantro on top of the Grilled Zucchini and Eggplant. The "bruschetta" was cold while the nicely grill-ribbed large veggies were warm. It was an inconsistency that detracted from the cohesion of the dish. The Homemade Sausage was excellent and plentiful, but the tomato sauce was thin and runny. The Tomato Bisque had a pleasant creamy texture and taste, but was a little lumpy. The Chicken Joey was fine, but I was beginning to feel overwhelmed and mildly compelled to take a share. The Cannoli were perfect. The overall effect was that each additional offering both added and detracted from the meal. I don't think that was the intention in the kitchen, but that was how it felt. The generosity of the house also opened the door to mild disappointment. After this review my friends may regret inviting me, and I am sorry for that. I will definitely return and ask for a more limited approach to my next meal. I would rather be totally impressed with the food I desire, and have fewer filling distractions. Less is More. read more

Order 2 family meals on Fathers Day 6/19/22. The chicken parmigiana was underwhelming and just blah. The vodka rigatoni did not even remotely taste like it should. Each meal was supposed to come with a salad. We only got 1 small salad. I would not recommend this restaurant. Also I ordered it for 5:00 pick up. They called me at 4:30 and told me it was done. Important things first: It's BYOB and come hungry. Made a reservation and ordered beforehand for a rather large party(about 10 of us). As soon as we arrived there were just plates upon plates of food arriving at the table that were compliments of the house. We got tomato pie, bruschetta, and mussels completely free. And, they were amazing! We actually ordered pasta and sausage in a cream sauce, pasta in a bolognese and something else that I didn't actually try. Was too stuffed after the first 3 plates of appetizers and ample helpings of the 2 pastas. Out of the 3 family size plates we ordered, I'm pretty sure we ate maybe half of it. Denicola's took care of us, and everything was great. The servers were some of the nicest and most professional I've seen. The atmosphere was like a more authentic olive garden. Random oils and kitchen gadgets decorate the low-light walls. In conclusion, next time I'm in Richboro, I'll be making a special effort to return to Denicola's. read more

I can not explain how wonderful our experience at Denicola was! We were seated immediately by the waitress Cat, who was welcoming and very attentive. The atmosphere is so homely, reminded me of when I lived it Italy and everyone was speaking native Italian! (Which, in an Italian restaurant is always a good sign). My boyfriend had the fettuccini alfredo, and I had the penne arrabbiata, both were fabulous! We were also given two appetizers and a large dish of freshly made meatballs complimentary with our meal, we asked the waitress if it was something commonly done and she said "Yes! All the time". Cannot recommend this restaurant. It's outdated inside and the food was just terrible. I ordered red snapper topped with crab with a side of vodka penne; the fish was dry, the vodka penne wasn't bad but the quantity was way too much. Hubby ordered a pasta dish with various seafood like shrimp, scallops, etc...; the sauce was like water. His dish had no flavor. I tried a piece of his shrimp and it tasted like seawater to me. The best part about this restaurant is the complimentary bruschetta and little personal pizza, oh and there was nice soft Italian music playing in the background. The bruschetta and pizza had the best flavor of everything served. I actually thoroughly enjoyed the bruschetta. I really tried to give this place a chance. I've eaten here in the past and it was not good, I let some time go by and then tried it again with my parents. First of all, their menus are laminated but dirty so the pages stick together and make you feel like you need to sanitize your hands. This is an indication of the quality of food. I got pasta primavera, a very simple but usually tasty dish. Their red sauce was a can of crushed tomatoes that was mixed with so much pasta water from not draining the pasta enough that it was absolutely tasteless. The only good part of the pasta was the eggplant in the primavera which was sweet and soft. But, the other veggies were seemingly not fresh (wilted, dull in color). My parents like it because they bring out free stuff like a small free personal pizza (the size of a saucer), but it tastes like Ellios. So, if that's the kind of Italian cuisine you enjoy, go for it! read more

The bruschetta was amazing, but the one thing that threw me off was the Cesar salad. I didn't think you could mess up a simple salad, right? It tasted FISHY. That's right, fishy. And the Cesar dressing color was brown. It was definitely NOT fresh. The lettuce was wilted and brown Itself. The cheese tasted different, as well. It tasted as if it had mold on it and all they did was cut the mold off. I don't know what it was, but the salad was my first dish and it completely threw off my appetite. I then received my main dish, which was penne vodka and eggplant Parmesan. I took a couple bites, and it was okay, but my stomach was hurting a little from the salad so I had to use the bathroom..if you know what I mean. We were the only people in the restaurant and our server only checked up on us about twice, and she did forget my ice cream that comes with the lunch special meal! The pasta was cooked el Dante but a little harder than expected, and the eggplant was very very soft, to the point where it would break when I touched it! No good. The up side was the bread. This Italian byob is truly a hidden gem. Authentic Italian food. The owner/chef puts their heart into the food. Complimentary appetizers like bruschetta or pizza are always brought out. (Which let me tell you, I would never have thought bruschetta could be a work of art but it is on another level of delicious) Besides the food being above heavenly,the portions are very generous. Even my grumpy father who complains about every place I take him to said he was very impressed. If recent dining experiences have left you unsatisfied,let this place remind you what there is to love about food and dining out. And do not forget dessert! What a great experience dining at this restaurant last night. We had a very enjoyable dinner for two. The restaurant is very clean and modern, the staff was attentive and knowledgeable but most of all the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Although there was perfect wait time between courses, the chef sent out complimentary bread, a small pizza and slices of tomato/mozzarella topped with balsamic vinegar prior to our appetizer.. how cool was that?? We had to hold back from filling up on it, prior to our meal..
