Thrifty Ice Cream. Enough said. I grew up in LA eating Thrifty ice cream on a weekly basis. I can still remember the day when they raised the price of a single scoop from 25 cents to 35 cents. The horror. (yes, I am getting old.) Somewhere along the way, I moved to the east coast for 8 years, forgot about Thrifty ice cream, and started paying 4 bucks for frozen yogurt. Imagine my delight when I stopped into this Rite Aid to pick up a card last week, and right before my very eyes was a glorious Thrift ice cream counter. Chocolate Malted Crunch? Check. Mint Chip? Check. Chocolate and Peanut Butter? Check. So many good (and nostalgic) choices. I am a fan, and will surely be getting fatter now that I have (re)discovered Thrifty- a la Rite Aid. First I love the friendly staff, always get great service with a smile. Secondly, last week I showed up in tears of pain from getting a tooth pulled at the pharmacy only to find the dental office sent the prescription to the wrong pharmacy. The staff at this pharmacy jumped on the issue, called my dentist and helped get the prescription sent there. My pain was so much I could hardly talk, without their help I would have melted down. Last week I filled a prescription here. One of my bottle of gel pills was almost completely melted together. My fiancé returned to the store that night and showed it to the pharmacist. She told him to pull the pills apart!!! When he asked for a manager, he was told there would not be one there for 2 weeks!! I had to go to the restroom. I couldn't believe how disgusting they were. Floors and walls dirty and disgusting looking urinal spotted with stains. I asked to speak with a store manager named Ricky and he said They mop them every night I told him hard to believe and I hope they can do better than that. My Doctor phoned in my RX to this pharmacy on a Friday and they were out of the medication so they had to order it. OK, I understand that part. But why did they make me wait all day on Monday before they would let me pick it up? I was in such excruciating pain all weekend and then to make me wait until 4:30 to get the medicine I needed was extremely cruel! They only needed to print out the RX label and stick it on the box. My mom is 88 years old and lives in Laguna Woods. A few months back a big switch occurred when Vons Pharmacy shut down and my mom and both aunts had all their meds tranferred. Changes like these can be traumatic for elderly folks. It messes up their routine and can be very disruptive and confusing. The store was a mess when we can in the night before Thanksgiving around 6:15. The employee buying a snack was more concerned about going back and getting chips to go with his drink than helping us. I like this place because it is EXTREMELY close to my house, and it is very convenient to be able to get an ice cream cone and some stuff that I normally would get at Walmart without having to go even a mile. That being said, there is a reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Since it is located right in the middle of Leisure World, it is filled to the brim with old people. I honestly don't have a problem with being around a lot of old customers...but the problem is, the employees are also old. Most of them are also Asian, so when you combine the less-than-sharp mind of an elderly person with a thick Chinese accent, it can be a bit hard to understand what they are saying. Thus, the customer service is slightly under par. Other than that, I highly recommend the place. In the eight years that I have been here, it has served me well, and I am glad to live near it. read more

My bf and I were having a rough week with me losing a grandparent and him losing his mom to cancer. We really wanted something sweet and went to rite aid for some ice cream. Keeyla (prob spelling it wrong) came over to help us. She had the biggest smile and was so funny helping us choose flavors. She made us laugh and really changed out moods for the next hour or so. A much better alternative than CVS. You can get in, a get a prescription filled without any major wait time. There are people working on the floor to help answer any questions. Everything is slow-paced, so prepare for that. The store is clean and very organized. They have good clearance items, and the ice cream is delicious! read more

This store is so close to my home, it's a shame that the staff is rude and act like I'm imposing or disturbing them to check me out. In the past, they have not been too helpful, today was just downright bizarre. I had a basketful of items, stood at checkout waiting to be acknowledged while the clerk was texting on her phone who didn't look up to see if anyone was waiting for some time. When I finally said "excuse me, may I check out?" She glanced up for a moment, then finished her texting! She never greeted me, I piled most my stuff on the counter and she still wouldn't ring me up! I am walking distance to this place and go there a lot. The pharmacy knows me by name,most employees are helpful,and they have nice sales. And, being a make -up junkie they will have a great clearance on make up from time to time. Drive through pharmacy is the worst. Takes 5-10 minutes for them to acknowledge you, even with the call button. If you press the call button more than once- which by the way, has no sound to tell you it's working- then they're really pissed. The pharmacists and techs are so rude. There is a high elderly demographic and it seems as though the techs are always mad or irritated dealing with them. In the store, expect long lines any time of day. There's not another close pharmacy, or they'd likely loose business. read more

There are so many nice people that work at this pharmacy but the pharmacist, Peter ruins the whole place. He is the most rude and uncaring man I have ever met. I had a few questions about a medication that is very expensive and I called 3 times within a week just to make sure I should spend $160 for the medication. On the second call, I told him to who I was and what my question was and he slammed the phone down hanging up on me. Hen should not be in this line of work..it is obvious he is not in it for helping people. My dog gets her medicine from this pharmacy also and he treats my husband like crap each month he goes to pick up our dog Delilah's meds which she needs. I will be contacting everyone I can to turn Peter in. I finally switched to another pharmacy and could not be happier!!! He has also treated my own grandmother like she was just a nuisance to him.. The only person that knows their way around that pharmacy is Sherri.............Whenever there is a problem none of them seem to be able to fix, Sherri figures out a way to get a reasonable answer or fix for the problem. worst Pharmacy that I have ever been. There was a problem with my insurance, changed cards. Took the new card and they kept telling me that it was still rejected. How is that possible when CVS pharmacy did not have any problems running the card 2 hrs ago. They told me to call the insurance and find out. They couldn't call. Called the insurance and they needed to know the error message.(which they never gave me...they were busy) Came back the next day and talked to the manager and they called the insurance and got it fixed. Question, why couldt they call the day before ? I missed my evening dose because of them. I got dismissed like a second class citizen the day before. Poor..realllly poo customer service. The pharmacy is a bunch of incompetent people and they constantly dismiss you, they are too busy to listen what you are saying. They kept telling me that my insurance rejected the meds, missed my doses many times, later found out they did in the wrong way. Later i went to pick up my prescription, to find out it was transferred to another CVS pharmacy. I asked why and they dismissed me by telling me it was done by me. Yes..I asked a month ago to transfer one prescription to a CVS Pharmacy in Laguna Beahc. not every day prescription from now on. I called the CVS pharmacy that they mentioned and they didn't have the prescription...a whole mess. Where is my prescription now? CVS helped me to find out where it was. It was in a CVS in the city of Orange, miles away from home. I am moving all my meds to another pharmacy, is not worthy to fight with these people..Manager nowhere to be found. read more

Terrible service. They don't answer the phone. Don't fill prescriptions when they are faxed in from the doctor. I've had to call the doctor on various prescriptions to call in the prescription again because Rite Aid lost it. If they finally do fill the prescription they dont you to let you know that it's ready. You have to call in and go thru the automated phone message system many times before they answer so you can find out if it has in fact been filled. The staff is rude and impatient. I'm done with this pharmacy, moving on. I recommend to all to do the same and save yourself some heartache. read more

Again I am having problems with this pharmacy. They called to say a medication was ready. I went to pick it up and was told that it was a C2 med so the pharmacist had to approve it. He was at lunch. This is the second time this has happened. I understand that it may have to be approved but is there no way to do the approval prior to the pick up. The clerk became sarcastic when I asked when he would be back. She said " I don't know, I don't have a tracker on him." I truly believe that, because this Rite Aid is in a 55+ community where many people can't get transportation to another pharmacy, Rite Aid feels that they have a captive audience and they don't need to provide good customer service. This review is for the pharmacy....always busy, always slow! It seem to take forever for the pick up counter to take care of business. I realize people have questions but it should be about meds! I went in today and usually if it's a new script I just leave and pick it up later, not worth the wait. The gal at the new script counter acknowledged me but was at her computer and I needed her attention. I finally asked her to come over to me and asked her to at least look at a customer when they're asking questions (needed to point out a couple I did not need). When my name was called over the pa...I couldn't tell if I was called so asked that gal again and she said if they called your name then it's ready....ok my question was I couldn't tell if it was my name. She checked and said so I had to stand in line (should've got in line earlier! Always at least 4-5 people in line). I asked the pharmacist when I got to the counter who's in charge of service because it's so slow etc. he said there's not enough space....hhhmm, I don't think he understood the question. Then I explained what happened when I dropped them off....he made excuses for her. Clearly he could careless for their customers feedback. I'm calling my insurance to see if I can change pharmacies. read more
