One month later I am having to have my prescription moved again to the better location I'm Castro Valley because this Rite Aid is out of it. They put in the request for transfer yesterday morning and no one would respond, so they asked me to try calling. I eventually got someone to answer, she seemed like she didn't know what she was talking about so I clarified 3 times that she was going to go in the computer right then and accept the transfer. Well she went onto the computer...and denied my transfer. I am now calling the store on repeat with no answer trying to get this transferred over as I run out of my medication today. I had a very rude pharmacist answer and then put me on hold with no explanation. How is it possible to be this poorly run? Thank god this is the last ever prescription I will ever need to deal with here. Avoid them at any cost. read more

I just had worst shopping experience ever at this store. To cut it too short, two items were charged to my credit card but the discount wasn't processed properly. When the cashier asked store manager "Rebeca" to help, she tried something and claimed the system doesn't work so I have to come back tomorrow. I told her I will be busy so asked her to help try again but she said you should call 800 customer service number. When I started to call the number, she told me "TO GET OUT of MY STORE"! And then threatened to call security or police to remove me. I am totally shocked by Rebeca's arrogant and bully altitude towards their customers. When I checked their reviews, no wonder they have got so many one star reviews! To Rite Aid management team: if you continue to hire such hostile managers for your stores, you will lose market share to CVS (across road) and Walgreens (two blocks)! I HATE THIS RITE AID!!! They don't answer the phone, you have to go in person to find out if an order is ready. Four days ago I ordered online some COVID test kits. The RITE AID web site said I would be notified when it was ready to be picked up. I never got a notificaton so I called this pharmacy today, four days after I placed the order. Someone answered said "Please hold." and then never picked up my call. I hung up after 5 minutes, called back and then no one answered. So I drove to the store, waited in line, and the pharmacy tech said "Oh, we don't have an order for you because we don't have any in stock. You should place another order." What?!!!! Terrible terrible customer service. Came in at 10 am after my dentist sent over my prescription. They said it would take an hour and that I would receive a text when it was ready. Never got the text but needed the pain pills so I gave them two hours and they still couldn't have it done. This is with three to four people working behind the desk. I guess it takes a rocket scientist to fill a bottle with pills and slap a label on it. So sad I had my prescription sent here, AVOID. read more

I love this Rite Aid. They totally gave me the medical hook up by letting me use my AAA card for discounts on meds. Who knew? I sure as heck didn't till the good folks at Rite aid provided the info. Sometimes there are a plethora of old folks in this location considering the neighborhood.. but all in all, good peeps in the pharmacy and the facelift on the rest of the place isn't bad. Went to buy ointment to treat a scar. Didn't see it. No one was on the floor to ask, so I asked the pharmacist who was just standing at the counter. The store is really nice with many varied items from housewares to cosmetics to health to food to office supplies. My three star rating is due to the customer service. Last time I was in there when I bought an item 2 of the employees were having a discussion about where to put the pop chips while I waited at the registers. For a long time. At least the person who checked me out was pleasant. I don't do a lot of shopping at Rite Aid, but I do stop by for ice cream from time to time when I just want a basic no frills scoop, and this location is the worst. The cashiers at the register just leave you standing at the ice cream counter with no acknowledgement and they never call anyone; each time I've been there I've had to search for someone myself. The ice cream is sometimes freezer burned or too hard and they're really stingy with the scoops. Tonight the guy that helped me didn't even bother to give me a full scoop. When I mentioned it looked a lot smaller than normal, he showed me the shape of the scooper like that made a difference. He clearly didn't press down all the way. I left without my ice cream and went down to Safeway and bought a pint of Haagen Daz. I won't be bothering with Rite Aid anymore. read more

Don't bother trying to fill your prescription here. I switched from the grungy CVS across the street because the CVS app is so terrible, but somehow this Rite Aid manages to be far worse. Here's the problem: You submit a refill. There's nothing in the app that says it's in progress. And in fact, it's not in progress. They simply don't fill it. When I had this happen the first time, I went in and they said they were a week behind on refills and they could do the refill while I wait. Ok, so I waited an hour and then got it. This month, I submitted a refill and had the same thing happen where nothing was happening in the app to show any progress, so I tried giving them a call. No answer at the pharmacy. No answer at the front desk. So, I'm stuck without my prescription that's running out in two days and in order to get it filled, I'll have to drive up there and wait an hour again. Ugh. No way. I'm going back to the CVS across the street. read more

This pharmacy is woefully neglectful and will soon kill someone. By their admission, they are so understaffed they have stopped answering their phone for refills and questions to patients AND PHYSICIANS. They are hit and miss (mostly miss) on auto refills and text notifications. They are not timely refilling prescriptions so there are medication gaps lasting SEVERAL DAYS for patients. When you go there in person, they claim that medications are not ready for refill per insurance timelines, which is not accurate. They say medicines are not due to be refilled for four days, but then while you are standing there, they say the medicines are being refilled if you are willing to wait 15 minutes, which turns into 30 minutes - which means buying into their scheme to have you spend $100 for household goods while waiting for prescriptions to be filled. And, here is the mother of all malpractice moments: If your doctor discontinues a medicine (and you have proof that it was discontinued) they miss the memo and keep refilling it for months. Can you imagine an old or unwell person not seeing this error and continuing to take medicine that a doctor discontinued, because they figure if is being filled, it must mean you should take it??? This pharmacy needs to be shut down or re-structured by whatever regulatory agency oversees pharmacies. I wish I had time to report them elsewhere. This used to be a wonderful neighborhood pharmacy. This store is very convenient and giant. They have housewares, beauty supplies, medicine, a pharmacy, office supplies and more. My favorite thing is to go to the greeting card section and read as many cards as I can and laugh. read more

They recently remodeled this store and it looks great. It's fully carpeted, very organized & clean, and they even have bathrooms where you don't have to walk through the stockroom to get to. The size of the store has not changed but the renovation has managed to make the store look much bigger. Great upgrade! read more

The Rite Aid looks nicer now that it's been remodeled, and they have a pretty good selection of stuff, but my GOD the pharmacy is slow, and it's always really busy after work. They really need two people working the registers instead of one. There used to be a girl there who was funny in her tired, "I hate my life" kind of way. But now she's gone. Now that I moved to the city I use the Safeway pharmacy and it's much better. Four stars for the store, but two stars for the pharmacy. I bring my kid here to play, especially when the weather's bad. I've seen other parents do this, too. It is like our secret hangout, and it is tolerated among the employees, some of whom even seem to like us. I come here a couple times a week to buy stuff I need and stuff I only kinda need. They tend to get my orders right at the pharmacy, and have extensive open hours. Line isn't usually too long, and when it's short, they fill orders really quickly. Last time, my insurance put a hold on a medication, and I only got 1/3 of the order - they called my insurance company and worked it out, but then never got back to me...? I've been in there enough that I shouldn't be surprised, but they won't even answer the phone. You press 5 to get connected to someone, and it just keeps looping around. Eventually, they did put me on hold without answering the phone (straight to the elevator music after being prompted to press 5 for the fifth time). I hung up after a while. They spent a lot of money remodeling that place, but the building was never the problem. CVS across the street is smaller and less "impressive" looking, but their people will talk to you. Terrific staff at the Pharmacy. However, last Saturday, 5/16, had an unpleasant interaction with "Martha" at the Pharmacy window. I get it that everyone is stressed nowadays, but when I mentioned that if I couldn't purchase a handful of birthday cards at the pharmacy window along with my prescription -- because I had more than 5 items, which were all cards, I told her that the store should post a sign next to the Pharmacy window alerting shoppers to this new Covid-19 Rule. She didn't respond and simply rang up the prescription package and told me to sign my electronic signature. Rude -- and needlessly so. When I told her she could, at least, respond, she answered about as sarcastically as she could that she'd "tell the Manager." She added that the manager's name was "Nick" and I could tell him myself. Stupid interactions like this are a drag and unnecessary -- given the much larger economic and medical situations unfolding in our community and country. So, Nick, I'm relating the recent encounter with Martha here. It's unfortunate, I'm over it, and please post a sign alerting shoppers to the new rule of "5 additional items, or less" at the Pharmacy. As far as Martha, hopefully, she'll learn to roll with a customer's "stupid question" and simply answer politely. read more

I just had to review this store because I have such a love-hate with it. But I gotta say, mostly love. Yes the service is...well...just kind of weird. Slow for sure - comicly so. But it cracks me up that you can never ever ruffle the feathers of the check-out people. They're going to be nice to you no matter what.....just very slowly. And the manager (if you can find him - not to say he's never there because I think he practically lives there - but more to say he's usually pretty busy) always knows his stuff - whether or not they have something, had something, or will have something in stock. And I always find the oddest things I never knew I needed but really, really, now I do. We've found so many things here we never expected to, that it's now practically our go-to place for everything. We use it as a hardware store, a kitchen store, a drugstore, an office supply, arts & crafts, garden and small electronics store. I haven't crossed the line to actually buying any food products here.....no...wait...vegetable seeds - does that count? I hate chains just as much as the next bay area pinko commie, but this chain has managed to feel like a neighborhood store because they have had those same slow, sweet, strangely unflappable employees for as long as I can remember. read more

This is one of the best kept secrets in Montclair Village. The staff are always incredibly helpful, and I have not had one bad experience while shopping here over the years. The pharmacy staff are courteous and always willing to help, and the store's customer service has always gone out of their way to help me find what I am looking for, even if there are long lines. I have kept coming back here time and again, and I know I will be taken care of in all aspects of my shopping needs. Keep up the great work. I have had some issues with finding parking, but this is common for the area, and if you live in the East Bay, you will know what I mean. read more

6 weeks earlier, during my previous pickup, I had waited some time for the prescription to be ready. Just as I was about to pay for them, the pharmacists left the store to 'move her car', which was apparently parked on 2 hour parking. I was left standing at the cashier, waiting for pharmacist approval for half an hour until she came back. I guess I should've taken my lesson. Today morning at 9 am, 10/19/2016, I called up the pharmacy to inform them that I'd be picking up a refill of my prescription in the afternoon. I did this to make sure I didn't need to wait a long time, as I did in previous visits, for this pick up. As you might guess, when I went at 2:30 pm to pick up, the order wasn't ready. I was told to wait 15-20 mins for it to be prepared. I protested that I'd called them specifically for this, but there was no option so I waited... for 35 minutes. After I paid, I requested to speak with the pharmacy manager, who apparently wasn't in today. Then I asked to speak with the store manager instead. The pharmacy technician announced for the manager 3 times while I kept waiting. I left after waiting for another 10 minutes to be able to speak to the manager, who didn't show up. In any case, no biggie because there is a CVS location right across the street. So I will not need to put up with this anymore. read more

Abusive treatment. They don't care about you at all. The staff is oblivious to anything concerning the patient. Example: Dropped off Script Monday, waited 1 hour for it to be filled. They said OK but if you wait until Friday the insurance will pay. Friday they said they could not fill the script which they already filled. They said we have to speak to a doctor first? Of course they had the entire week to do this but they didn't. Then they can't get the Doctor on the phone so now I have to wait another 3 or 4 days for this. Just lazy and inconsiderate. All these people make too much money just doing a job a trained monkey could do. read more

Had the WORST customer service experience ever. I have been a loyal customer for 10+ years. Today I was told that I could not use the pharmacy line to check out items, even though it included over the counter medications, because I did not have a prescription even though I have done it before without any issue. First the rude Asian woman technician ignored me and turned to her prescriptions, and then the manager who was even ruder told me to get back in the huge main line. This is not the way to treat a customer, esp. one who has been totally loyal to this store. I turned away and left all my items there and went across the street to CVS with no line and where someone actually asked me if I needed help. You are a terrible business, Rite Aid Montclair! Again I am standing in line at Rite Aid. There never seems to be enough checkers and the store is filled with students who are extremely loud. Not a word from any cashiers to quiet down. But the worst thing I see is the cashier eating sum flower seeds. Putting them in her mouth, taking them out of her mouth and touching money and customers credit cards. Pretty disgusting! read more

The fact that I'm not used to the world of corporate pharmacies is a given. I was a patron of Montclair Pharmacy for many years and got used to being treated like a person. I don't expect someone at a pharmacy counter to say, "Sorry about that," and turn away when something has gone wrong with their phone refill system and my prescription isn't ready. I shouldn't have to say, "Excuse me," three times to get someone's attention with a question after she has left me standing there. I don't like being told that my only option is to go away and come back the next day. Instead of going back, I called the new Wellspring Pharmacy on Piedmont Avenue and am transferring all my prescriptions. I am tired of being treated like a nuisance instead of a patient.
