I have been working out here for many years, off and on, and haven't had anyone shout "Fatty fatty 2x4" for some time so the place must be effective. They have a smattering of racquetball courts and there are some very, very, very sweaty men in them sometimes. I like to pretend they are just sweaty fish in a giant aquarium and that helps me cope. The locker rooms (at least the guys) is well appropriated and has shaving cream, after shave, etc. and gives off a very "old guard" feel. Upstairs they have a weight room which seems to have a 20:1 guy to girl ratio, which freaks my date out a bit from time to time but no "tough guys" have given her any problems. Check it out, they have an indoor running track. I think that it's 1/10 of a mile so if you use it you get the feel of running around a giant banyan tree. On an island in the middle of the running track (sounds more exotic than it is) they have all the cardio equipment. They have a cute little board that you can use to sign up for equipment and there is this guy named "Cookie" who works out there and my date always changes the i-dot in "Cookie" to a heart when she can, which we find to be a really good time. Give "Cookie" a shout out if you see him; he's a crusty looking, shorter fellow. You'll know what I mean if you see him. The good thing is that there is never much of a crowd here so you can pretty much use whatever equipment you want when you want it. However, here is the highlight of the HOF Fitness Center: you know those fat-shakers that are basically like a big rubber band that you put around your midsection and don't appear to have any fitness value whatsoever but are always featured in workout videos from the 50's? THEY HAVE ONE OF THOSE! We saw a guy using it one day in all seriousness and it's probably one of the best things I've ever seen in my entire life. The facility is fairly large and also has both an indoor and outdoor pool, saunas, whirlpool, tennis and basketball courts and even batting cages. They also have a little restaurant so if you overdid it during the workout you can get your sea legs back. The classes that they offer are great and the teachers I've encountered are all very friendly. I don't have a monthly membership now but when I've been in town they have let me pay a per visit fee ($5, I think?). It's a great place to work out. The $5 is worth it alone if you see someone using that fat-shaker or if you have a "Cookie" sighting.

So pickleball was a smash hit. Then I went into the club to get a beer, a tour, and a membership. I was pleasantly surprised by all the amenities that they offer. They have weights, a walking/jogging tracking, a steam room, a bar, a lounge, TVs, ping pong, shuffleboard, pilates classes, cardio fitness equpment, indoor & outdoor tennis courts, outdoor pickleball courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, indoor golf, soccer/lacrosse field, and updated locker rooms. There's a lot going on here compared to other health clubs in the area. I spoke with the general manager, Val, and she was super friendly and down to earth. We had a draft beer from the bar, while we chatted and watched tennis on TV. I really liked the vibe that this place has and I am hoping to start using the weight machines and pickleball often.

If you are playing someone that knows the facility well, they will use that angle to their advantage! The locker room facilities are adequate, but you will definitely be taken back to the late 80s early 90s with the decor. There are several toiletries available for use in case you forgot anything, and a separate area with large mirrors for getting ready after your work out. The facility offers a full-size basketball court, walking track, and with several weight/fitness equipment options. I have never been a member of this club, but have visited as a guest many times. It is tucked away in an industrial parkway area of Fairlawn, so you need to be alert when searching for the building.

Mask were required by staff and enforcement of social distancing. These requirements at times were not taken very seriously. Masks around chins and not over the mouth and nose seemed to be more the norm. I understand that we can all have different ways of thinking and that is what freedom is about but when the science and the state requirements were not taken seriously this became very concerning particularly of the owners. I know that now there is no mandates and so when wearing a mask or taking social distancing precautions you re treated differently I feel that it was time to move on. After three years I am sad but my health is more important.

I finally got an opportunity to train again and I fell in love with Jiujitsu here. I love the instructors as well as all of my classmates. As a former athlete I needed a place that allowed me to grow but also still feed the need for training that pushed me to my limits and I find that here.

Rooms for gym classes, courts on 2 different floors, racquetball courts, punching bags, an indoor track, huge weightlifting area, enormous cardio area with elliptical, treadmills and bikes and even a ping pong table area! The place has ALMOST everything (except soccer). It also connects to the aquatic center so you can walk over to the pools, Jacuzzis, and steam rooms. I'm so glad I found the gym my freshman year! I was always super active in high school sports and making time for fitness was really important to my wellbeing in college. Mentally, it kept me motivated, energized and on a schedule, physically it kept me thin and ripped despite my beer guzzling and many a late night meals at Rosie's, and emotionally it kept me feeling like a strong, confident woman.

South Prospect is owned by Ben Petit, technically, but split spiritually and emotionally by many- Those who just stay for a small time, those who go great lengths further than what they expected, and those who stay training here until they retire. No matter which path is yours, South Prospect has always had open doors and good sportsmanship. Our way back in and they are both harassing us about our age and what grade we are in very aggressively. I kept walking to avoid conflict and one of the instructors yelled to the top of her lungs, Hey she's speaking to you! I then asked if there was In issue and she continued to Harass me about what grad and age I was. I walked away of course because I'm 27 and pay to use the facilities. I'm also clearly bi-racial, I have two tattoos and my swimsuit was more than appropriate. I have no idea why we were attacked, it was more than inappropriate for two employees of this facility to do this. I'll most likely never return
