Three months ago I saw Ashlee for a color and JJ for a cut . Loved it ! Today July 7 I saw Ashlee for a cut and color. When I requested to book The salon told me she had an opening July 2, I said perfect . Then it switched to July 3 . again I said perfect . They then said no they made a mistake the appointment is now July 7 th? Ok. I made it pretty clear I wanted full highlights and a color . When I sat down Ashlee said she was doing partial highlights and a cut . I tried explaining I specifically book full highlights . She said she didn't have time to go back and forth about that, and that it was my fault for not looking at the confirmation . Um the time of the appointment literally changed three times by the salon not me . They clearly have an attitude the customer is always wrong and their staff is not capable of mistakes . I said I was pissed because I waited And now I can't even get what I thought I booked for . Ashlee said she doesn't tolerate profanity ? I didn't know the word pissed was considered profanity ?? She then when on scolding me saying I was rude and needed to respect her . In the middle of all this I suggested I re book so I could get the service I wanted . She said she would charge me no matter what . I said well this is not going well I don't think she should be working on my hair since she just chewed me out. I honestly should have walked out . I didn't know expressing frustration over the schedulers mistake was cause to put me in my place . It was extremely awkward. Just note the customer is always wrong . She then said well you had a partial color last time ? No I had full highlights. Clearly she was not interested in doing my hair . She couldn't even bother to look up what we did last time . We did the partial highlight Then she cut my hair . I made the mistake of asking if we could look at the front I like it framed around my face / angled down . She proceeded to take large chunks like another three inches around the front not framing but more like chopping. Clearly she was not happy that I asked to look at it. I said again I wanted it angled down . Framing my face . She said like bangs ? Right because bangs and framing the face / are the same . I said angled down . She took off the cape and said that's what you got ! Wow just wow . It looked like a chopped up mess in the front it doesn't even blend to the back . A mullet , Prince Albert whatever you want to call it . It's bad . Clearly it was out of spite . God forbid you say the appointment was booked wrong or you have an actual preference about the cut . Ashlee was truly the best hair stylist I have ever had. I came in saying the words "Risky" and "My wedding" in the same sentence and she gave me REALISTIC and classy options that made me feel so sure of what I was going to get. And she gave me exactly what she said she would. That takes so much experience- she's been cutting hair for 19 years. We chatted the entire time and I love her personality. And I just want to say something because I was shocked by some of the reviews here: Tell the stylist what you would like to get, be detailed, ask what the price would be BEFORE THEY START. It keeps communication clear and hair stylist have to juggle a lot of things besides pricing. They have to give you the perfect cut, can't talk too little or too much, engage in active listening while using precision. If I was worried about pricing- I would make that clear when I sat down. This review isn't about the quality of the service. My hair stylist and makeup artist were amazing and I have no complaints about them. This is for the salon itself and for the front desk staff. I wrote to them requesting pricing for getting my hair and makeup done for my elopement and they quoted me $125 each service so $250 total. That is all the info they provided. I let them know I needed to be done at 11am and they said that's fine they would start at 9am. I decided to book. The day of I got my hair done first and then my makeup. Everything went well. I got a very simple hairstyle just curled and pinned back half up half down and a very standard makeup look. I got there right at 9am and they started around 9:10. I wrapped up hair around 10:15 and makeup around 11:10. When I went to pay the front desk staff told me that my total was $325. I was like ???? Why? I was quoted $125 per service. They very rudely said that it was because of the extra time my hair took. I mentioned nobody had told me about a time limit and the girl just goes "yeah..." I didn't have time to stay and argue so I paid the extra $75 I wasn't expecting and tipped and left but honestly this is UNACCEPTABLE. $75 for an extra 5-10 mins?? It's not like I asked for some crazy elaborate hairstyle. Why am I being blindsided after everything when I go to pay that it's actually an extra $75? I would have just booked somewhere else that was more in my budget. Not to mention then I get the receipt and it literally says $175 for hair and $150 for makeup and they both say 1 hour so I'm confused??? Terrible business model and rude front staff. My hair stylist and makeup artist were very kind though and none of it was their fault. I had been a paying client at Ritual Salon + Style Bar and previously spent hundreds of dollars there, including $450 for partial highlights and a cut a couple of months ago. At that visit, the stylist scheduled me for a retouch one month later (I don't know why exactly given that I had spent around half a grant already but let's just say I trusted her). Two days before the appointment, they sent a text reminder stating that cancellation was free until 24 hours prior and that cancellations after that would be charged 100%. Unfortunately, I did not see the reminder in time. When I saw the follow-up message the morning of the appointment, I immediately called (30 minutes before the scheduled time) to explain that I could not make it and that I was about to go into my class. The first response I received was that I would be charged the full $250 service fee. There was no attempt to offer a partial late fee, reschedule, or extend any courtesy as a returning client , just immediate enforcement of the 100% charge. They then processed the charge to my card on file and sent a receipt listing it as "Custom Partial Lightening," even though no service was performed. I understand that salons have cancellation policies, especially for longer color appointments. However, I was disappointed by the lack of flexibility or goodwill. Most of their stylists are good, but management felt rigid and impersonal. Despite being a pricey salon, their service acumen leaves much to be desired. I told them on the phone that I no longer wished to return there and that our professional relationship was over. I then went into my class. They kept calling me, disrupting my class. (I need my phone on for emergencies since I have small children). I finally exited the classroom and picked up so I can tell them "please stop harassing me, I do not wish to be contacted by you anymore." Before I had a chance to block their number they (Angelica, the stylist who charged me $250 for a service I never received) had sent me a vulgar text bemoaning my "hostile" behavior. I guess telling them I was never going back to their salon constituted hostility. That the stylist, a person with whom I have no personal relationship used my private contact which was on file to send me unsolicited messages and lecture me on professional conduct was ironically the most unprofessional thing a hair salon has done before. The have all my information and card numbers on file. And each and every stylist in there apparently has access to that information, Fantastic. Live and learn? If you book here, be aware. Also, never protest or complain about anything. No Soup For YOU kinda place. I won't be returning. read more

I recently tried Ritual Salon + Style Bar for the first time to get my hair styled for a wedding. I made a reservation online a couple of weeks in advance for a Friday morning appointment. I selected the dry style for them to style my hair in 30 minutes. I did want more than just a style with hot tools and added in a braid. I didn't realize the style is just hot tools and nothing else so be sure to book that in advance as they seemed a little surprised and were booked back to back for style appointments. The salon is very modern, open and welcoming. Be sure to get there early to give yourself some time to find parking downtown and pay for parking before your appointment too! I'll start off by saying I'm a firm proponent of the saying "you get what you pay for". My hair is no different and I'm selective with the salons I go to. After my previous salon went out of business/ rebranded during covid, I had several botched haircuts trying to find a new one. That was until I found Ritual. Anjelika was the first stylist I saw who was able to salvage a botched cut and win me over. When she went out on maternity leave, Austin took over my hair needs flawlessly. I last went in at 37 weeks pregnant. Austin gave me a beautiful all over color to cover some grown out highlights for a super low maintenance look while I get through this life transition. She freshened up my hair cut, again keeping low maintenance in mind. I left feeling beautiful and ready to tackle postpartum without worrying about a grown out fringe/layers or brassy looking highlights that I wouldn't have time for in the coming months. I made an appt with Kimberly for November 28th. They make you give your credit card ahead of time because they will charge you full price if you do not show or half price if you cancel less than 48 hours in advance. They called me on the day of my appointment to tell me Kimberly was sick so I rescheduled for today. I get there today and they tell me I have no such appointment. I showed them my texts from them and they had to admit that I did have an appointment. Then they claimed that they had called yesterday. So I showed them, my Recents log from my iPhone. No such call. So, they assigned me to a stylist who I did like, which is the only reason I'm giving this review more than one star. I asked her the price difference between a root touch up and a full color. She said touch up was $125 and full color was $165. So I went with the touch up. Even though the website says $100 for touch up. Then, after all that when I checked out, they charged me $185!!! I'm like, "What the hell?!" Then they corrected it. At least they say they did and recharged me $125. I will have to look at my credit card statement to make sure they really did give me back that $185 before charging me another $125. It seemed disorganized and not as professional as I would expect for a salon that charges that much. read more
