I had a great experience with Dana a few weeks ago. She is new to Sonoma county but has many years of experience as a hair dresser. I felt so lucky to get an appointment with her last minute as I had a rather unexpected trip planned and needed to get my hair done bad. I went for a new look and she nailed it. The color came out great and I am loving my new cut. I got bangs! I especially love the razor cutting she did. My hair has so much more movement and style to it now. Thank you Dana! I highly recommend Rebecca for color. I am a brunette and I did the blonding process with her and she honestly did an amazing job. I traveled multiple times to make an appointment with her from San Diego because she's honestly that good, and as a natural brunette it is extremely hard to find someone who can tone and lighten your hair in such a natural way. She's also extremely knowledgeable, and every time I book with her, she explained exactly what she is doing, you can tell that she really takes pride in her craft. A very fancy remodel , but the owner Paula should consider spending her business money on helping her clients. I had a fever and called in to cancel as soon as they opened on Tuesday They were closed on Monday. I did not want to get my hairdresser Teresa sick. I immediately rescheduled the appointment and was told not to worry about the cancellation. Upon looking at my credit card statement in the next few days I noticed I was charged. I called and asked for the owner PAULA to call me. She did not. I called again a few days later. She came on the phone and was rude and told me that whoever told me I wouldn't be charged for the cancellation was wrong. The 115.00 charge was obviously more important to HER than keeping a client. I've been coming to this salon for years. Sorry for her stylists. Rules are meant to be broken under certain circumstances. read more

Have had my hair cut by Teresa twice now and have had an amazing experience each time! She listens to everything you want and gives you professional advice on what could work/might not work for your hair. She's so positive and nice, and made me feel very welcome. I like to wear my hair naturally down and hate styling it/putting hairspray in it and have never felt pushed to do either one of these things by her (other salons have just done it without asking). I am THRILLED with my hair after my appointment with Astra!! I have had issues in the past with stylists that are not familiar with curly hair and luckily, Astra is an absolute PRO. I booked for all-over color and was very impressed with how quickly she made up the correct amount of color. I have had my hair colored for years and every other stylist had to make more! She also gave me a great trim and styled my curls beautifully, and left feeling like a million bucks! On top of all of the great service, Astra was super fun to talk to. After a failed attempt to get my teeth cleaned and getting my appointment week wrong, I refocused myself on my task list at hand: get married, move all my stuff across the nation, finish my master's degree, and get highlights before the weekend. With such a looming to-do list, and only really one thing I could possibly get done in the same day, so I sought out Leading Edge to see if they could slot me in for some hair magic. Not only could they, but the lady on the other end of the phone was chipper, helpful, and sounded authentically excited to get me in on short notice. I've always loved Aveda products because they are plant based, and over 90% wind-powered manufactured. Not only are they good for the environment, but they are good for you, AND they do a heck of a job at giving your skin and hair just the product that you need. That said, after over a decade of using their products, I've never had an Aveda haircut or colour and was super excited to do so. Location, as my friend Issy D says, is in a weird business park across from Parkpoint, but the inside will transport you to LA, New York, or any other cosmopolitan mecca of hair goodness. My Lead Stylist was the pint-sized and delightful Erin, a woman with many years of hair experience, and boy does she prove it with her work. I felt immediately comfortable putting my pre-wedding hair in her hands. We started with an Aveda relax tea, and an aromatherapy and neck/shoulders massage. WONDERFUL. Then she talked with me on my vision for what the outcome would look like, and she set to work. Foils were on in a blink, and then it was off to shampoo. One of my pet peeves at being very tall is the shampoo chairs never fit me. Not so here! The chairs are fully electric and adjustable, and even have reclining leg supports for optimal relaxation while cleansing. On top of that, the neck towel was warm, the shampooing included a pressure points scalp massage, and all the Aveda products smell amazing, so it was a most enjoyable experience. After that we were back to blow drying and styling, and in what seemed like just a moment, I went from "meh" to "ooh la laa!" Erin perfectly placed my requested highlights with some medium lights to create movement and shine, and the end product was amazing. I also printed off my "New Customer" discount pass from their website, so my $80 partial foils were only $60!!! WHAT?!? Yes!!! I immediately booked myself a trim for a few weeks out with Erin because I was shocked, delighted, and so pleased with the result. Absolutely a diamond in the rough(area of santa rosa), Leading Edge Salon really is on the leading edge of salons with talented stylists, friendly and competent staff, and luxurious detailing at a fraction of the cost. I have been an Aveda customer for many years, visited several in CA. Awesome Shawna my excellent new stylist gave me THE PERFCT Cut!!!!!! She is a delight in every way! Rosa in reception greets me with the friendliest smile and Mia is a bonus !! (See pic) I also believe the pricing menu is very fair and I get a great value. The location is very easy to get to from any direction and the salon is very aesthetically pleasing as well. It took a long time to find the perfect salon again but I have and I'm so pleased. Their customer service is quite terrible. I booked an appointment that they didn't want to fulfill and so they called me to tell me that I could come in for a 15 minute consult or an all over darker color. When I told them I would just come in for an all-over darker color, they told me they didn't want to do something I obviously didn't want. Basically, they were overbooked and didn't want to do the service I'd requested, perhaps there was someone else booked for the same time who wanted something more expensive? I would have been happy to pay the price and I always tip well so I was really disappointed that they didn't seem interested in helping me do something, anything to get ready for the school year. As a teacher I don't have lots of opportunities to set aside hours for hair maintenance and I made the appointment at a time when I would be able to come in and not be rushed. I should add that their system charges up to the full price of the appointment if you are a no-show. I could completely understand that if they respected the time of others equally!! They wasted my time and I ended up canceling to go to another salon in town that worked really hard to accommodate me that same afternoon. They did a great job. I've always loved Aveda salons so the fact that this one treats new clients so shabbily was a real letdown. ***Addendum following response: While I appreciate the response I received here on Yelp!, I wanted to note that I never received a phone call afterwards to discuss this matter. As far as the content of my original conversation with the person on the phone on the day in question, I was not certain what there was time for in the appointment I booked so I suggested the highlights, was told there wasn't time for that, and then asked for what I booked the appointment for: an all-over color, to which the response was that I didn't actually want that so I could take the consultation or kick rocks. I did book the appointment after hours and was happy to receive a phone call to confirm but I was not given options and I certainly wasn't told the consultation was complementary, as you have suggested. If that had been the approach that was taken, I wouldn't have been as upset as I was about what had happened. I do think you are correct that we have differing ideas about what respect looks like. If I had not felt I was being treated dismissively, had been told the consultation was complementary, and had felt like I had actual live options for getting something done with my hair on the day I booked the appointment, even if I decided not to do so, I would have felt as though my time was being respected. The hairdresser HATED me! Actually said "I need you to stop being hostile" 2 minutes after I sat down and was answering her questions. Apparently I was supposed to describe my color choice. She got mad when I asked if she had any samples for me to choose from. It was a VERY awkward 90 minutes. I would never go back and tell anyone who's interested about my experience there. I haven't gotten my hair cut in over 4 years and I was planning on cutting my waist length hair all off. I was super nervous, but Shawna was amazing and kind. She made the experience so warm and exciting. First of all, the experience started with a relaxing scalp and neck massage with essential oils. This was so helpful to ease my nerves. I'm not a particularly social person so the small talk factor of haircuts makes me anxious. Shawna never pushed too hard to talk, but was still nice. It's been a wild couple of years hasn't it? I have been a client at Leading Edge for quite a while and continue to receive top notch hair cuts and personal service. The whole crew is great, Paula, Katy, Natalie, Karen, Rosa and Kathleen. Kathleen is my stylist and she just does a fantastic job. She has been cutting my hair for about 3 years. We always talk about changes, short/long, product no product. This is a very professional establishment and with Covid I have always felt safe walking into the salon. I appreciate the fact that Paula keeps her team together and that we know one another. It's incredible to walk into this place and be greeted with smiling faces and great attitudes. I booked my appointment via online for a clear shine glaze treatment ($30 for 30 mins). It was an "add on service" but nothing indicated I needed to click an additional service. I received a confirmation e-mail and another one the day before my appt to verify. So 1 hr and 15 mins before my appt, the salon called to verify what I wanted. I reconfirmed I wanted a clear glaze. She said it will take an hour rather than 30 mins (stated on site). I said that was fine, but then I asked if it will affect the cost. She said yes and the additional cost for blow dry and style ($25). Firstly, I'm going to the movies with my bro after, so didn't feel the need to look fabulous. Secondly, I have NEVER had a salon charge for the blow dry and style (always included). I asked if my hair could be casually blown and not styled, she said no, it wasn't the type of service they provided. I told her I understood (tho the cost of blow dry & style should really be stated on both their site and online appt). I said I needed to think about this and will call her back in 15 mins. I had wanted to see if there was a at-home clear gloss from sally's beauty salon instead. The woman over the phone became very firm and insisted that I cancel right now over the phone with her instead of calling back. She wanted to fill my spot up with someone else. I told her I understood where she was coming from but she needed to respect my needs and I will call back in 15. So I did my research and found some at-home clear glaze ($8.99). I thought it was more affordable and practical than spend $55 for a one-time use and an unexpected $25 to blow dry (FYI, it's summer time...dont need unnecessary heat on my hair). So I called back in 5 mins and I cancelled with a man that showed no professionalism on the phone at all. I just felt like the individuals I interacted with were very unprofessional. They contacted me so last minute when they should have the day before. The e-mail sent before had a button I had to press to confirm the appt. They really should have contacted me earlier and respected my needs. I also hope they would have told me the change in price if I hadn't asked. I can't say anything about the quality of their service since I have never had it. From the raving reviews I'm sure they are fabulous. But the customer service and professionalism needs refining. read more

I didn't want to keep driving all the way to San Anselmo every time I needed color services, a cut and styling, but I also didn't want to take a chance and risk being disappointed, especially regarding color services. One day I walked into Leading Edge Salon and the first person I spoke with happened to be Astra Fox, one of the expert stylists there, and I knew I was in good hands. I've been seeing Astra ever since, and I couldn't be happier. The salon itself is very nice, and Astra is a delight. I decided to put a toner on my hair..Big mistake!! In a panic I called Leading Edge Salon and they were so accommodating and got me an appointment that afternoon!! I was SO fortunate to meet Cricket, she SAVED MY HAIR! She managed to get the toner completely out of my hair and spent a lot of time undoing the mess I had made of my hair! I made another appointment for the next day to get my professionally colored. Unfortunately Cricket was busy so she booked me with Rachel and she also did a FANTASTIC job. BUT it is how the provider treats clients, and in this case responds to complaints. I have worked with the public for over 30 yrs. Please read before going here... I attended an event where the Leading Edge was teaming up with Aveda to support Clean Water causes. You were able to make a cash donation dependent on how much you felt a haircut would be worth, and the Leading Edge staff would treat you to a haircut or trim. I had been growing out my hair for 5 months, and it was finally getting to a length I was content with. I was teamed up with styliest Christine ( I think that was her name), and she asked what I wanted. I was SPECIFIC that I wanted to keep the length but was willing to go shorter in the back, for a nice but subtle A-Line cut. THE WOMAN CUT 3+ INCHES OFF OF MY HEAD. SHE ABSOLUTELY DID NOT LISTEN TO ME AND CHOPPED MY LONG HAIR OFF. Since there was no mirror in front of us, I had no idea what she was doing until it was finished. My hair is now about 2.5 inches ABOVE my collar bone. NOT TO MENTION, the hair cut is horrific. One side is longer than the other, and the back looks like a child took paper scissors to my head. I know this is not a serious event, my hair will grow back...BUT THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. Stay AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. These are amateur stylists fresh out of beauty school, and now I will pay the price because I am miserable with my cut. Furthermore, I will need to have a professional, highly reputable stylist fix the uneveness of the mess on my head. Go elsewhere. I am serious. I've been here multiple times and have seem a few different stylist. I love Aveda products because I can still get my hair done even while pregnant with their safe products. Anyhoo, I like to change my hair up a lot...a little darker, then lighter, a little ombré here, a little touch up there. But at leading edge they want you to come in for a separate 'consultation' for every change. I get why they do it, they want to know how long to book your appointment for but I just don't have the time or the babysitter availability for that. I can hardly find the time to get my hair done and now you want me to find more time to 'pop-in' to save you time. I just can't do it anymore, Leading Edge, so I say fair well! read more

As you can see I have never given a bad yelp review. Not my style.. I like to spread the goodness and turn people onto things I love... But every once in a while service and attitude are so bad, you have to speak up. Running a business myself I completely understand that you cannot always be responsible for every thing every one of your employees says and some times it may not be in line with management. However what struck me was this WAS the manager who was so rude to me. I was appalled (trust me I deal with upset customers as well and this IS NOT the way to do it) at her behavior. She was rude condescending, belittled me (even if I was rude, which I was NOT, a manager should always keep it together and be skilled with upset customers), belittled me and offered NO solution. I had refered several friends to the salon, and each one said they had similar treatment. One told me she asked who would be best to do her hair and they gave her someone who had not even (by her own admission) been doing what she wanted for very long, but was new and needed clients. I have no idea how they have 5 stars, but be cautious before going here. My appointment was canceled and they could not rebook it, you are left on hold, they charged me more then they quoted on the phone, I was not offered water or anything while waiting, and the prices are NOT cheap. My friend bought a Groupon and then was told she could not use it because it was only for new customers who had not been there in 6 months (she had been in 5 months ago). To the salons defense the Groupon deal DID say that (you got to read the fine print!), but I always have an issue with companies who do deals for new clientele and not the people who are their regular business and support them day in and day out. After all they are the ones who are loyal and keeping you there! Any way enough said. There are so many talented hairdressers in Santa Rosa and SOOO many salons, do yourself a favor don't support Leading Edge, find a salon that cares about their clients. read more
