As a customer I found the shop to be a delightful place, with some unusual gems of style that are not standard issue TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Macys caliber wear. For example, I found well-fit trousers and winter outerwear that are cheaper than would be sold at high-end clothing retailers like Bloomingdales. It's also nice to meet other customers who are looking through a bunch of second hand clothing. A supportive and encouraging vibe may be found here with others looking for pickings amidst a random bunch of strangers' pre-owned clothes. It's also nice to be inside a parlor and rooms in a residential house, beats a big box retail store that lacks any kind of character. As a prospective seller I was a bit surprised by the rather dismissive and condescending tone of the business. While I am understanding of a certain level of quality control to ensure that their inventory meets a certain standard, there is no need to be palpably condescending, ever, in a business situation. A polite tone or decent interaction would serve such a business well. For example referring prospective sellers to some rational guidelines that are the basis of judging clothing items (to accept to sell in store) would seem reasonable. It would make their business seem more professional. The business could assert that based on their (stated, public) criteria they can't take the items. They could follow up with, if the seller were to return with other or the same clothing that would meet their criteria, they would be welcome back. Otherwise, it's like racial apartheid America of a few short decades ago: someone takes a look and makes an inscrutable, ad hoc judgement, "Don't come here because you look like you don't belong." Very poor taste in my opinion. As a customer of used clothing, I would recommend at least looking through their potentially rich pickings! read more

This lovely family-run consignment business offers an amazing selection of contemporary and designer pieces at a range of reasonable price points. It's super clean, well organized, with loads of treasures. And the kindest, most helpful staff! One time I found a pair of designer heels for under $50... that were still available on the brand site for $925! I've consigned a few pieces with them as well, and the process was smooth. Whenever we visit So Cal we make a detour to visit Ritz Resale or somehow we manage to find ourselves nearby during their business hours to shop *Wink*. It's great giving a new home to pre-loved items and Ritz Resale does one of the best jobs checking items to make sure they are in great condition so the new owner doesn't have to worry. Our last trip, my mom picked up a few elegant and classy pieces that were not her typical style but too beautiful to pass up. Also, very well-known brands at a fraction of the price. A blouse for $50 would have easily gone for $200 new. She's not even someone who likes second hand shopping but she makes the exception at Ritz Resale because the quality is great, the clothing is clean and everything is organized very well. I came by to drop off a dozen contemporary brand designer dresses, some of which retailed for $250-$350 from Bloomingdale's. The owner's son was very cordial on the phone. His mother picked through my clothes (some with tags on, all dry cleaned and pressed) and made me feel like I had brought clothes that were garbage. I ended up leaving a few pieces behind to consign. It took them a few weeks to register the items and to send me an email with an account. Ritz Resale is the "Cheers" of Resale/Consignment. There aren't many places one can shop, sell, lament, meet like minded individuals and obtain brutal honesty about what does and doesn't look appropriate. In a world where many have become cynical, easily offended and want "magic", it's refreshing to visit a business that feels almost like a "magical closet" in a home away from home atmosphere. I've been patronizing them for almost 30 years. There's something for everyone-literally from designer/couture to affordable jewelry, apparel, purses, shoes all under one roof. Their newest location is truly reminiscent of the initial locations they had in Old Town and West Pasadena. What I most appreciate is the attention to detail when choosing whether to consign items-or not. While many stores take items because of "designer names" or merely for purposes of filling racks, Ritz doesn't do this. Each item is assessed for 1) re-sale ability, 2) a realistic price point it can be resold for, 3) seasonal appropriateness, 4) current climate demand and 5) quality/former care. Anytime I've purchased something, it's either been new, almost new ie "pristine", unique or definitely used, yet still "well loved." I want to remind anyone on the path for a resale find and/or for a location to consign items: a) a resale shop is "resale." Sometimes things are new, other times they aren't. Therefore don't attempt to sell your items for retail or above retail, once you've enjoyed them. Resale is a wonderful avenue to "recycle" items that are sometimes well loved-yet remain USABLE to someone else; b) Resale Consignment cannot guarantee you a certain sell price. Just because you see another similar item online, doesn't mean that yours is guaranteed to sell for the identical price; there's numerous factors at play and the biggest is "supply, demand and sometimes merely luck"; c) you are not selling brand new items-even if the tags are still attached. If you can get 100% of your tag, return it to who you purchased it from. Typically a consigner either pays cash outright or consigns and takes a percentage. If you have something super special you possibly can negotiate for a bit higher than 50% of selling price. d) Rid personal attachment to any item and price point for what you sale. I literally have purchased something online and end up disliking it, yet it's my issue, not anyone I choose to consign the item. They typically can't get 100% of what I paid, plus take a 50% cut. e) There's very few things you can wear over and over and sell it for the price you purchased it. Therefore don't become upset if it doesn't fetch excessive returns. It's used at the end of the day. Last and most important, your relationship with a consignment shop is like a friendship. If you rarely make deposits ie you are NOT a frequent customer who spends a fair amount and is kind, don't expect to get all sorts of discounts. The consigner has tremendous overhead, has consignee to answer to in terms of profits and ultimately makes their income by moving your items. Their profits are greatly minimized when customers are constantly demanding discounts. If you truly desire a splendid relationship, excellent customer service, competitive yet fair pricing, look no further than Ritz Resale for selling as well as purchasing cherish-able clothing, accessories, perfume and the like. I came to the store not to long ago looking for a gift for my girlfriend because her birthday was coming up, knowing her she has expensive taste (I'm talking Gucci Versace, MK, etc.) and basic marshals or Macy's stores won't do. I came to the store because I was referred by a friend. When I walked in the store I saw all the high brand quality items and thought to myself I made a mistake coming here due to expensive brands being too expensive, however when I checked the price tags I was in shock!!!! The prices were very reasonable compared to retail! I saw this beautiful MK watch with Chrystal diamonds inside that retails for $500. The sale price was $190. I was extremely satisfied and bought her a beautiful English Manila coat to match with the watch for an insanely well deal. From now on I'm doing all my shopping here at Ritz! I'm only giving them One Star because there isn't an option for Zero! I left several items (designer purses and shoes) for resale and was told they would be listed "online." Should have gone with my "gut" feeling when leaving my items for "Jennifer" to sell. She was condescending through the whole process and had an attitude. Though I wasn't sure why, I thought it might have been because I was asking questions about the process (had never sold items that way before and wanted to understand the process.) There was an older woman standing over Jennifer who seemed to be advising her of the criteria for each item, which suggested to me that she wasn't too experienced. Once they chose what they wanted to keep, "Jennifer" handed me a receipt, explaining nothing, and sent me on my way. When I got home and read the receipt, I realized that she would keep any items that didn't sell in 60 days. I immediately emailed her and requested that the items not be considered "donated" if they didn't sell and asked her to confirm my request. She responded with a snarky email that said I would have to pick the items up on day 61 in order to get them back and ensure she didn't keep them. (This response completely blindsided me since, prior to bringing my items to the store, I had spoken to "Joseph" and he had been Very Kind and helpful. Joseph had told me that they accepted a variety of items--including "Coach" "Michael Kors," and "Donald Pliner" shoes/purses, which she declined several NEW ones that I brought to the store.) The receipt stated: Monitor your Account Online at: www.ritzresale.com, which they never appeared on. She emailed me a different link (www.myresaleweb.com), which turned out to be a link to a third-party administrator that simply listed the item name - no picture, no price. I went onto the store website referenced on the receipt and still found no mention, pics, etc., of my items for sale. I again emailed Jennifer to find out (a) why my items weren't listed on the website (her response was that they "weren't high end" even though one of the items was a brand new pair of Frye boots that retail for about $300), and (b) how much they would sell for (her response was that she could tell me -- though she never did -- but that the price was subject to change without notice). WOW! Talk about ZERO accountability or professionalism. It was during this dialog regarding the website and pricing that she told me that I should come pick up my items. (GOOD IDEA!!!) It amazes me how this business stays afloat with her attitude. I have never been treated with such disrespect or rudeness from a proprietor. Customer service leaves MUCH to be desired. I would never recommend or return to this store. read more

Wow, what was good and wonderful about Ritz Resale has turned into horrid stuff and rotten customer service. I was a regular customer for over 20 yrs. Flash back to: About 3 years ago + - I bought a handbag that cost around $180. I had asked Jen (Jennifer's nick name) about the higher than usual price. Jen was alone, I was the only customer. Nothing unusual. Usually Jen had been flexible about prices with me. Over the years, I had purchased MANY things each time I was there. Anyway, Jen replied that it's a Bally and it's real alligator...that's why it costs that much. Oh. Ok then. Truthfully, over the years, I had come to believe and trust Jen. So, no need to wonder or to question. I bought the "Bally alligator" handbag at the asked for, undiscounted price. The handbag was a new to me, so I used the bag for at least a month. Then I changed things over to different everyday bag. Fast forward to this year, February 2018. I was moving things and happened to "find" that bag among my things. I had forgot I had it. Then, I recalled how I bought that bag because of Jennifer's representation that it's real alligator. I then looked, and there was something just not quite right about the alligator bag. I unzipped and looked inside the empty bag. I was shocked and dismayed to find that the interior "suede" lining had partially crumbled off. Real suede might dry up, but I've never seen any real soft suede surface detach and crumble off. It was awful and I felt duped and devastated. I decided to call Jen after a few days had passed. When I thought about who had sold be the bag, I knew Jen would figure out something to make things better for her and for me. WRONG. Wrong for thinking good, and WRONG for believing Jen would stand by her word. It was Jen's representation that caused me to buy what turned out to be counterfeit "Bally alligator" handbag. The bag seems to be made of synthetic materials. No joke! I explained to Jen about the decomposing "suede," etc. I explained that Jen and Ritz Resale sold me what turns out to be a fake "designer handbag." Plain and simple. Vik (her husband) refused to provide any sort of customer service at all. Vik apparently finished and handed the phone to Jen. She listened to me as I explained the above. Jen then said, "I listened to you, now, listen to me...." Then...oh my gosh! She was more defiant, seemingly angry, and defensive than anyone I recall talking with in any customer service, returns, or as an owner of any kind of store, ever. Vik, and then Jen, each declined to provide any relief or remedy whatsoever! I think they just don't give a dang! Neither said anything about regretting or apologizing that Jen and Ritz Resale sold me, as real, a counterfeit. Doesn't this seem to go to whether anyone ought to believe Jen's representation?!! The way they each talked to me, Jen especially, they don't need any customer satisfaction! Jen dittoed her husband, Vik then it felt just plain over the top, really very strong, rotten, terrible and oh, so bad. Then she hung up. Some added perspective: I've known Jen's mom from when the mom had the store and Jen was a kid. I've thought I've been a good customer. And, that's what they've told me. For goodness sake, I leave my hand bag with them, behind the counter, while I shop. I'm trusted to freely look at and try small jewelry and other items from their closed glass case. I was told by Jen that it's ok, because it's me. I've also been thanked by Vik for helping increase sales while I'm there. But, from everything they said, I think they don't care at all that the Ritz Resale and owner, Jen, sold me a counterfeit! Jen declined my offer to bring the item to her so she could see and examine the facts herself. Apparently, I was totally wrong in thinking she would want to see things, herself. She was soooo difficult and negative. She wants me to prove to her that the counterfeit bag is truly fake. Yet, she didn't accept the simple process of seeing how bad the counterfeit Bally alligator handbag she sold me, is. She is an expert in what she sells. She could have felt it, smelled it, examined the obvious. What does Jen want me to do? She didn't say. Should I take the handbag to the FBI, the police, go to a Bally store and ask for a statement that the bag sold by Jen and Ritz Resale as real is a fake, a fraud? I think any of those or all of those could make things worse for Jen, Ritz Resale and anyone else that participated in passing along, as real and for profit, a counterfeit designer bag. All of this is what I think about Ritz Resale and it's attitude toward a long time customer that they misled. I would think that they would want to fix this simply, kindly and in a friendly way. Hopefully, they'll turn this into realizing they've got to be good for their word and provide better customer service, or at least, make truthful representations. I am more of a consignor with them than a shopper but have also bought a dozen things. I am not a label shopper. I really don't care who the original maker was if I like the look. But I know that they only take things with mid to upper end labels in them. I take a huge armful every few months and am treated with smiles and respect. Do I wish they'd take more of my items?
