Went to see Jurassic World Rebirth on a Sunday evening. There were numerous small children running…read moreup and down the aisles and screaming. After 20 minutes one parent did take their child out. Through the entire movie there were adults having conversations as if they were sitting at home watching TV and making noise. Why are parents bringing 5 year olds to a violent movie, if you can't or don't want to hire a babysitter STAY AT HOME! There was also an off duty police officer doing extra work in the theater, this tells you the theater has problems. I understand movie theaters are under economic pressure but allowing this type of behavior will just hasten their demise. I will never go back to any Cinemark Theater.

We walked right in, and didn't have any problems with our ticketless ticket on my phone. No waiting in line for the concession stand either. They do have a food delivery service, but I'm not sure if they are still delivering food since covid. I would never use this service anyway. It's just easier to get your popcorn, and head for your movie. Pretty fast and easy. (I'm not sure I would like the interruption of food delivery while watching a movie.) Theater is on the smaller size, and are practicing social distancing when buying tickets. I actually like this idea, and wish they would keep it after the threat of covid is over, if it ever is. When choosing your seats the computer "blocks" out seats next to you, on either side, so that no one other than who is in your "party" will be seating next to you. Individual screening rooms are on the small size as well, However, the seats are large comfy lounge seats that lean back with drink holders on the side. When the movie started my grandson covered his ears waiting in anticipation of the promo, at most movie theaters, that promote the very loud sound systems. I don't know why they do that, because it is very loud. I tried to get his hands away from his ears, but he wasn't having it. It wasn't until after all the previews, and not until the movie started, that he took his hands away from his ears. I don't know if it was because of the movie we saw, or if it's because they don't have the speaker system of other movie theaters, but the sound was perfect. Not to loud, that you have to worry about loosing your hearing. All in all a pleasant evening.

But we went to their competing theatre this week and it may have put the nail in Megaplex's coffin. Out of the last 8-9 movies I've seen, they have had kettle corn available only once. And it literally tasted burnt. The kid said, "Oh yeah, we ran out of sugar..." And the other times they just said, "We don't have any." On our last visit, we saw quesadillas were back on the menu so we ordered one. NOPE. The kid said, "Our grills aren't hot..." My friends and I are kettle corn people. We don't go for the buttered popcorn like everyone else. And now that it's consistently unavailable, we will indulge in our sweet and salty delight elsewhere. On top of that, the new app doesn't show your loyalty rewards points. So yeah, not loving what Megaplex is(n't) offering.

The seats are old movie seats so they are comfortable, they are arranged in tiers so you have a clear view of the screen, the screen is an adequate size, the projection and sound is clear, the ticket holder and waitlist lines are indoors and out of the cold, and there's a snack bar in the lobby. Even better, there's a free shuttle bus stop directly outside the door and the terrific Grub Steak restaurant across the street. Clean, large restrooms too. What's not to love?

Everywhere I walk I've got FIVE STARS on the brain. Night two of "high culture" at the festival is in the books & I gotta say I feel about 10lbs smarter already. Prospector Square is far more intimate than Eccles Theatre so the lines aren't nearly as long & you don't have to stand in the cold. They also offer concessions while you wait and you can bring your goodies into the show! Eccles seats a little over 1300 people & is JAM PACKED for each showing. Prospector Square seats about 360 movie fans. My guess is if your film plays at Prospector Square during Sundance, it's like making the JV squad in high school. Coach Redford gives you a pat on the butt and says - "You're getting there little buddy. Now go home, practice dribbling with your left hand and come back when you're four inches taller." I didn't really know what to expect sitting down for this film. The Hollywood businessman who brought me to Sundance told me that "all of these films are kind of the same." I hate to say it but he was wrong! While this film was ALSO very slow, methodically paced & dramatic, the miserable situation was COMPLETELY different. This film dealt with a bastard fisherman who suffered from severe muscular dystrophy and lived with his poverty stricken mother who forbid him from spending time with his childhood love. AND it was in Spanish! Talk about ART! I think most of the foreign films play at this theater (JV). There's something about subtitles that just thrusts the misery of a situation right out into the audience. It's tricky watching subtitles, though. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to being paying attention to the faces the actors are making or the little text that's shooting across the screen. Sometimes I get confused & start making my own faces while reading the dialogue. No matter how I handle it I know I'm smarter for trying. They had a Q&A w cast and crew but I didn't stick around. I was exhausted from reading. Hola Amigo! You'll get 'em next year. So much culture. Prospector Square gets FIVE STARS!!
