    Waiting for movie...

I love this theatre and its awesome employees. Been going here for over 25 years. It's a gem! Count on them to be showing movies you want to see that other theaters usually don't. It's a really cute theater with a great assortment of candies, bottles sodas, and snacks as well. You're not coming here for updated recliner seats... it's about seeing great movies in a theater that has a historic feel. The parking garage adjacent to it is so convenient and the theatre will validate.

We came here last week to watch a Sundance film, Theater Camp. The employees were all super kind and welcoming. I love the choices of snacks they had, even pizza! The decor inside was so cute, including all the Barbie accessories for the Barbie movie. We parked in the parking garage next door and they validated our parking. The prices of the tickets and food were pretty affordable. The chairs were comfortable, but it is first come first serve so definitely get there a little bit earlier. Will be coming here again!

I just can't bring myself to write a bad review of this place, mostly for the fact that they show awesome indie films -- movies you NEED to go see! We travel from out of state to see films here while we are in town since the Broadway shows movies that most theaters outside of L.A. and New York will never get the chance to screen. Yes, this theater is in a very bad state of disrepair. The bathrooms are horrendous with leaking faucets, broken door latches, cracked tile, etc. The theaters themselves are fine but they do lack a good sound system and the theater still hasn't yet converted to digital projection (though they are currently raising funds to do so). The screens are small but adequate. Parking is easy and free in the adjacent parking garage. Take a ticket and be sure to get it validated. I avoid parking in the street since I got a ticket one winter for blocking some sort of zone -- when the sign was covered in snow. Don't chance it and just park in the garage. My biggest complaint is about the new seats. While the old seats weren't that comfy, the new ones are HORRIBLE! They might've looked good on paper but people making interior design decisions really need to sit in the seats before purchasing them! First, the old style floor means there's a very steep incline. When you sit in the new seats, you feel like you are going to be catapulted forward. Want to lean back? You have no choice but to prop your feet up on the seats in front of you -- which means the brand new seating is already dirty and scuffed. The worst thing about the new seats is that the seatbacks are so high, they disrupt the sight lines for the screen and block part of the film (even when they are empty). As a movie lover, this is a serious issue for me. I'm not really sure how this problem can be corrected, but it's very distracting and a real letdown. The snack bar is good but I wish there would be more diet soda options. If you don't like Diet Coke (which I don't), then you are out of luck. I hate being forced to bring my own Coke Zero or Diet Pepsi in with me, but when something's not offered I have to! Another 'complaint' (last one, I promise!) is that now when you go to see a film, you are force-fed commercials. The lights go dim, you get to watch a handful of previews, and then -- BAM -- you are hit with about 4 or 5 commercials! AFTER THE PREVIEWS! WTF? I know this theater must be struggling and I know it's run by the film society, but come on! Don't hold me captive and shove irrelevant commercials down my throat. It leaves a very, VERY bad taste in my mouth. Maybe if all audiences just start booing when the commercials come on, management will take a hint? Okay, no more fussies about this place. I honestly do LOVE the theater. If you love movies like I do, please go and support this place. Go see an indie, go expand your horizons. And for the love of God, do NOT talk during the movie (I'm talking to you, old farts in the back row yapping about every last damn thing in the movie I saw last night).

This place has always been pretty awesome, but now that the lobby has been remodeled, it's even better! I love that they offer a huge variety of chocolates and goodies. Where else can you get not only popcorn, but also a burrito, Pie Hole pizza, edamame and an Americano? It's definitely the theater to visit if you're wanting to see an independent or limited release film. Don't go there expecting to see the latest action flick or crappy thriller. Do expect to see quality shows that are thought provoking and heart warming. Films that I've seen this year: The Grand Budapest Hotel, Boyhood, What If, and The Theory of Everything.

    I wish I was there.

The Broadway is the second oldest theatre house in Salt Lake, with the first being heir sister theatre The Tower. Both are run by the Salt Lake Film Society, and both give you something that the other theatre chains in town can't: an experience. Broadway shows indie, art-house, foreign, and limited release films in newly converted to digital format, and with exceptionally comfy new chairs. They've also just redone their entire foyer, snack stand, and their carpet is personalised. This theatre house has heart and soul, and I can't say that I have seen a movie here in the last year that hasn't resulted in some shedding of tears - be they happy or sad - which I know I can't attest to from the Miller and Cinemark competition. Also, you can park in the parking structure right next to the theatre and receive a validation with your movie purchase, which is the greatest downtown draw in the land - aside from the films of course ;) So please, support local, and please support the little guys of cinema. Thank you Broadway, you are truly an amazing part of our city.

Saw 'The Farewell' a few days ago and glad I did. The movie and the theater was great. It's clean, nice atmosphere and very friendly attendants working there. Plus, the popcorn is super tasty and they have all kinds of new fusion snacks and originals that we all love. It's run by the Salt Lake Film Society and they show all types of foreign/indie films. Can't wait to watch another movie there.

It's mostly an automated concession stand so be ready for that. Service was slow that day to get popcorn and a cup for soda. It was on a Sunday. I think Sundays might just be a slow day. The entrance to the movie was easy to locate. The seats were a bit tricky to locate in the dark. The advertisements had already began so the lights were out. There were many advertisements and movie previews to sit through before Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning began. Be aware of that delay. The seats are deep and luxurious. I sunk into the seat and felt very comfortable throughout the movie. They had sliding tables for each seat in the row I sat in to put food on while enjoying the movie. I was glued to the screen much of the time. Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is action packed. I did use a restroom once during the film. The restroom was somewhat easy to locate. There are signs up near the ceiling by the restroom doors. Only problem was that the water for the sinks to wash my hands in did not dispense water. No water for the sinks! So I had to use an anti-bacteria foam dispenser by the door to clean my hands after using the restroom. One other suggestion. The air conditioning that day was excellent at the concession stand. However, inside the individual movie theater, it was too warm. Just a suggestion to turn the air conditioning up a bit more. It was hot outside when I was there.

While the employees were kind and efficient, the chairs in theater eight need to be replaced. For the price of the tickets, the seats need to be updated--not deteriorating. Every seat my group of four sat in was deteriorating, making it appear like the person who chose to purchased those seats initially bought the cheap item that is intended for home use instead of commercial use. I was honestly disgusted sitting in them because the appearance of the seats gave an unclean appearance. This issue has nothing to do with the employees and everything to do with the manager or owner of the theater in Sugarhouse. The restroom also had toilet paper on the floor of almost every stall in the women's restroom.

Great location for a theater, with nice restaurants nearby. I'll probably start going to this theater regularly. The biggest negative was the service. Nearly everyone we interacted with gave off grouchy vibes. I get it, it's the holiday season and there are lots of kids, but there's not need to be a jerk and ruin the moviegoers' experience. I could also complain about having to sit through 20 minutes of commercials and a further 15 minutes of previews before the movie began, but that's not unique to this location; it's the industry norm now.
