This colony of tiny houses caught my eye when searching for places to overnight on a road trip. For sure it is an interesting study in architectural efficiency. Everything was new and immaculately maintained, and I enjoyed the galley kitchen. My biggest caution is for the mobility impaired. A very steep staircase leads to the loft bedroom. I decided I didn't want to risk stumbling down it if I had to go down to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Instead I used the pull out sofa in the tiny living room. It was not very comfortable but it did the job. On the plus side, there are breweries and a pizza place in the converted mill next door, so we did not have to hunt for dinner! Interesting experience but one time was enough for me. Ps if booking through a third party app, you may not receive the code to unlock your tiny home. Not to worry. Just call the River and Twine number directly and they will take care of you. read more

I've stayed here twice, once to break up a longer trip and another time when I was in the area for something else. This is mostly useful as a more interesting alternative to Rocky Mount's collection of very average chain motels along 64. It's definitely a different lodging experience and the clusters of tiny homes along a gravel road make for a colorful, fun little neighborhood feel. The parking is close by, and there are several food and (mostly) drink options at Rocky Mount Mills, which is adjacent. Note that there are only two restaurant options and the rest are mostly brewpubs, so food variety is limited. The hours of operation can be somewhat limited as well when it's not a weekend, so check that out when making plans. My first stay was in the Elizabeth, which was fine except the shower curtain was a little grungy and the sitting area wasn't suitable for curling up and reading, because it was just a padded bench with one end backing into a bookcase and the other into a countertop. Second stay was at the Neuse, which had a U-shaped seating arrangement where you could read for a while and a shower door that was much cleaner. So you're not allowed to stay in a place calling itself a tiny home and complain about it being small. I will just comment that the shower stall is hard to maneuver in, and if you drop the soap, you will have to get out of the shower in order to pick it up. Also, the stairs up to the sleeping loft are veeeeeeeeery steep. If you have to make a bathroom trip in the middle of the night, it can be quite a production. Also, the mattress is in the highest part near the ceiling, and heat rises. While the A/C unit worked well, it would be nice to have some sort of fan arrangement in the sleeping area. Note that the kitchen area provides a coffee maker and two mugs, a nice mini-fridge, a microwave, and some paper to-go cups. There are no other dishes, so if you're eating in, you'll have to account for that. The contactless check-in and check-out works fine, the tiny homes are cute, and the experience is distinctive. I wouldn't want to stay in one for more than a couple of nights, but for a short stay it's a worthwhile adventure. read more

This is great for what it is...a tiny home motel/campground. Our tiny home that we had for a Saturday night in May was the Pamlico. I chose it because the steps to the upper floor looked sturdier and less steep than some of the other tiny homes. I was wrong. They are narrow but very deep. Precarious even if you're sober. And quite dangerous if you've been partaking in all the great breweries and restaurants. But that's not the house's fault. It was built that way probably to make use of every nook and cranny. And everything was spotless. The bed upstairs looked charming and comfortable. You definitely can't sit up in it without bonking your head. Would be perfect for children that never get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Or for adults who have young enough bladders to make it through the night. Never fear, cause downstairs the couch does make into a bed of some type. Not the most comfortable thing, but when you're glamping you're having fun and we had some good laughs. Location is right across the street from Rocky Mount Mills which is super enjoyable for a night away. We had a great dinner, lots of drinks and breakfast at the coffee shop the next morning. If you have children with you, there are volleyball nets, firepits, and other outdoor things around the tiny houses. They give you a code before you check in that gets you in your little house. There's no place to "check in and out". Note that River & Twine also has a guest house. That would be more our speed for next time. read more

What an awesome introduction to tiny home living. I read up on places to stay and visit in Rocky Mount, NC, and River & Twine topped the list of lodging recommendations. There are about a dozen tiny homes in this little community, each of them named after rivers that run through North Cackey. What's cool is that the unit is smartly designed with everything that you could possibly need in such a small square footage. Be comfortable in close quarters if you're lodging with someone! What's especially cool about this tiny hotel community is that it's nestled in a residential community with breweries, a coffee shop, a pizzeria, and a really nice community center. All in Rocky Mount. If you venture out during your stay there, Raleigh is less than an hour away. Another great city to check out, most definitely. read more

Truly an amazing find! I love the simplicity in the design and the comfort of the space. We stayed for one night and it was perfect for the both of us. The house was clean, had cable, WiFi, and a Keureg machine with coffee pods. Best of all, it was walking distance to Rocky Mount Mills, which had many breweries and restaurants to choose from. We even took advantage of the firewood provided on the property and enjoyed the rest of the evening by the fire pit. A great alternative to a hotel and definitely a stay you won't forget. read more

Having seen tiny houses on TV and ready about them, we've always wanted to stay in one just out of curiosity. We booked a room on a Thursday night and it was kind of eerie since I think we were the only people staying there -- we didn't see a soul until the next morning. It was unique but we probably won't do it again. The steps up to the loft bed are really steep, there is one sink (no bathroom sink), and we had a few mosquitos with us. It was nice that they included a map to Rocky Mount Mills along with menus and a coupon for coffee. There were outdoor fire pits but not really available for use in early September (they were also waterlogged). I'm sure many people will enjoy this but having done it once, that's about good for us. read more

I love this place. This is the only place I have been during COVID and it's pretty much perfect. You get your own tiny house and never have to interact with anyone as they send you a code to the door via email. I stayed in The Tar and really enjoyed it. Everything you need is in the house, tv, couch, comfy bed. I will say I went on a Tuesday afternoon and pretty much nothing in the nearby Rocky Mount Mills was open. I get COVID hours but makes it so you have to wander farther for meals. Most of the breweries are open like wed to sat so you may want to check the hours before reserving if that's your thing. read more

In a recent business trip to Rocky Mount, this hotel was suggested by our business partner. "If you want to stay somewhere different" was all I was told. Different is right. Normally I would have checked into the local Hilton value hotel and called it a night. Instead, I found myself in a charming tiny house, nestled into a wooded area next to Rocky Mount Mills. Adirondack chairs and chiminea are scattered around the property and my colleagues and I enjoyed the evening sipping beer from the local bottle shop. Much better than a hotel lobby. The units themselves are spacious -- compared to hotel rooms -- and charming. While the floor plans are similar, the decor is distinct and everyone has a very different but shared experience. A messaging app gives easy access to the management who has proven to be very responsive. One of my colleagues realized that there were no hangars in the unit, sent a message, and a few minutes later the hangars were delivered. River & Twine does a good business on the weekends and have recently started marketing to business travelers. Smart move. It is likely that I'll be back in Rocky Mount on business in the future and if I am, I will be right back here at River & Twine. read more

Such a fun overnight spot! Loved our tiny house - had everything we needed and the location was great! Enjoyed the children's museum, bbq restaurant, and breweries. Came back after dinner and our kids loved the s'mores kit. Added the s'mores and beer tokens to our room reservation and that was great! Just so easy and enjoyable. You have to visit this place. Located at the end of the road and across from The Mills with many breweries and restaurants, you couldn't ask for more! The houses were very clean and provided all the essentials you would need. Great for families or friends! Walking distance and pet friendly (small fee), it was a relaxing and enjoyable experience! We stayed here (family of 4) on a trip down 95. Fun and different! Easy to walk to a # of restaurants and coffee shop. Management was very helpful bringing an extra blanket and FedExing something we left behind. It was a little tight for 4 people and 1 bed wasn't comfortable but otherwise, we loved it. read more

Love this addition to Rocky Mount's landscape. We visit every year for the holidays and always ask ourselves, "what is a good hotel option?" We read about the mill and the tiny homes hotel in an article online. This is the best hotel experience around. A comparable rate, lovely tiny home, fire pits, the river trail, and the mill - they have it all. And it's conveniently located right off a couple of major travel intersections. Stayed here last week right after their grand opening. Staying in a Tiny House as opposed to the traditional hotel was a fresh and fun experience. Our "home" was super clean and cozy. The bed was so comfortable. I loved that we could do self check in via the reservation site so we could go straight to the unit instead of the hassle of the traditional hotel check in. This was a nice technology benefit! The Keurig was a nice touch. The only downside to the property that we encountered -- the parking lot is a bit of a hike from the actual unit -- which really wouldn't be a big deal in good weather, but on our arrival it was raining, so we got wet. One other thing -- the stairs to the loft (main sleeping area) are really steep and a bit tricky to navigate (especially in the dark). It does clearly state on the River and Twine website that all the units have stairs and most Tiny House lovers will understand this. But for the rest of the visitors, just FYI. There is a fold out bed downstairs for those with bad knees. (I took a nap on it, it was comfy) I gave the place 5 stars because its just a really cool place and worth the visit. This location is part of the Rocky Mount Mills complex and there are 3 restaurants within walking distance that offer a variety of food and drink options for lunch or dinner, but not breakfast. That requires a bit of exploring into Rocky Mount. read more
