Bought a used spa from River City several years ago and it was nothing but problems from day 1. I called them after several repairs and they were steadfast in their 90 warranty. After spending hundreds of dollars on a laundry list of repairs it finally began a (merciful) leak and that was the last straw. We decided to buy a new one and called Barry to see if they dealt in new spas. They don't but after hearing me out Barry offered to come haul off the old one at no charge. I didn't ask him to do that, he offered which I thought was nice. Today was the appointment anytime before 11:00 and guess what? No show. No call. No text. No response to my text. Been working with Barry and his guys at River City Spas for around 15 years now. He has removed spas from me for free form house I sold/bought. I guess he utilizes the old spas for parts etc. Have had him remove a spa and store it for me in his yard for awhile before our new home was ready and then moved it into our new home. What great customer service, working out something like this for me ands charging me practically nothing. The guy has very reasonable priced used spas for a fraction of a new spa price. His workers may look a little sketchy however, they are all very polite and helpful every time I deal with them. We stumbled upon this place (river city spas) purely by accident, but so so happy we did! Upon first glance it looked like a hot tub graveyard, hundreds upon hundreds of old, new, humongous and small tubs spread out over an acre or so of property. But don't the exterior scare you, it actually is for the customers benefit that they have so many choices and even if the hot tub doesn't look very pretty at first, if you find the shell of one you like they will refurbish it as good as new. Rebuilding it from the inside out. They really have so much to choose from at all different prices, depending on the year, make or size. We first Had to measure our space at our home and the path to get it there before we could actually shop for a tub. That would be my number one tip, is to know your measurements before you go in, it will make the rest of the buying process so much easier. Don't be afraid to ask questions as everyone there is VERY knowledgeable and friendly. We ended up buying a spa that we are so happy with and they worked around our schedule to deliver it. They also worked magic to get it in our back yard including getting into our pool fully clothed (oops!). All-in-all, great experience! read more

Worst business man ever!!! I had written an unfavorable review a while back and Barry begged me to remove it if he would pay me a few hundred bucks. I removed it and never heard from Barry again. The bad review was I purchased a hot tub from Barry and we had some electrical problems. I had a electrician do all the proper wiring. We had 2 different people come and look at it and no one could figure it out. Barry finally came out after a couple months of this going back and forth. Barry eventually called me at work and started yelling at me saying I owe him $150 cause he fixed the hot tub that he sold me with a warrantee. His guys couldn't fix it, another service company couldn't fix it but because Barry figured out the simple wiring mix up he found it appropriate to scream at me. I wanted to share my experience with River City Spas. I have never owned a spa and I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a new one and not actually use it. The week before Thanksgiving I called and made an appointment to look at the spas on hand. I was a little nervous that I could buy a lemon and be stuck. Barry and Sherry were very reasonable to deal with. I didn't like the color of the spa or cover but after some discussion I decided to buy the spa with the understanding that I could get another spa cover in another color. The spa was delivered quickly and I had no issues. About a month later I called because one section of the jets weren't working as well as I thought they should. I also couldn't find the manual for the spa to understand some of the features. I called as I was within my 90 day warranty. Jim came out and adjusted the jets. He also went over the care and features of the spa. He spent about 30 minutes with me and I really appreciated his knowledge. I also decided I wanted the cover with the other color and it's perfect. On January 15th we stopped in checked out some spa and ended up buying one. The next week we went back to pick up our spa. We got it home got it adjusted electrician came over was having problems. Called Sheryl and we are enjoying our wonderful spa now. She was right on the ball got Jim out fix the heating element on our spa and now it works wonderful. We hired River City Spas to move our new spa from the driveway to the backyard. Only one guy showed up and instead of waiting for help he had my 66 year old husband help. This all happened very quickly. When they got it to the backyard the River City guy instructed my husband to help him tip the spa on it's side. It wasn't in the correct place so he said they would "walk" the spa on the concrete to put it into place. Unfortunately this scratched the siding of our brand new spa. When I asked him about the scratches he assured me they would rub off. They did not. Since my husband was 50% of the workforce they should at least have given us a 50% discount. This doesn't fix the scratches or the bummer their shoddy work has put on our purchase. This was not a professionally run company and nothing has been done to attempt to right a wrong. I read the good and the bad reviews, but I have nothing but praise for RCS. Over the last 4 years, I have used them a couple of times. Late last year, I purchased a used spa from them and had zero issues. Yes, this is a used spa company, and you get what you pay for, but for me it has been a great value! And Barry (the younger one as I think there are two), has been wonderful. I had an issue and lots of questions, and everything was taken care of. Used spa, but new cover, new filters, new ozonator. I am very very happy, even with my follow-up calls. For those who are not happy with their service, or services of this nature, stick with new spa companies. My husband and I purchased a house with a hot tub. We loved using the hot tub in our apartment complex but had no idea what the maintenance on a hot tub would entail. Needless to say, we were not prepared, or interested in keeping the hot tub once we found out. After calling around for quotes and checking yelp we settled on River City Spas. I called the number where I was directed to call another number. I called that number and was instructed to send a text with a picture of the hot tub... a couple too many steps but I was still excited to have the hot tub removed. I received a quote and set a time for the removal via text. On the morning of the removal, no one showed up. I called and sent a text after about 30 minutes past the appointment time. They forgot about the appointment but could be there within three hours. I was pretty upset because I had plans but I wanted to remove the hot tub very badly so I waited. I was given the option to leave cash or check in the backyard but I opted against it. I had a hard time draining the hot tub and they helped me get the rest of the water out. The hot tub was removed within about 20 minutes. They would have charged more because the electricity was still connected to the tub but they waived the fee due to the issues with the appointment. After I paid them, they removed the hot tub and left. I did not realize they had finished until I looked outside and the hot tub was gone. Although not the best communication or punctual, they were very efficient. To be fair, great communication is not necessarily essential to hot tub removal. We recently bought a house that came with a spa. We knew we weren't going to keep the spa, so we had this company come out and remove it. We stressed how worried we were that removing the spa might tear up the grass we just bought, and these guys reassured us that it wouldn't be a problem -- boy were they right. They not only managed to somehow get the spa up and on to a little roller thing that was 1/4 of the size of the spa (they have superhuman strength!) but they then went and put thick plywood down along the grass to create a path of where the spa was going to roll on out of our yard. By the end of it, they managed to get the spa out without even leaving any roller marks or divots in its path. I was so blown away by how much care and patience they applied in moving the spa and respecting out property in the process. All in all, from lifting the spa up and out to slowly rolling it across the yard, they took about 30-40 mins. SUPER quick considering what it would have been if I rounded up a few friends or neighbors to help me do the amateur version. They also happened to be really, really nice people and I just felt like our removal was in such great hands. They were excellent! Highly recommend for Spa removal and re-sale. read more

Two weeks ago, my wife and I were in the market for a used tub. We went to RCS and looked around. Barry showed us several models that were available and a six person tub caught are eye. There was no sales pressure and we told Barry we were going to grab lunch and talk about it. We returned 20 minutes later and negotiated a price with Barry to include delivery and taxes. The tub was delivered about a week later and the two guys that arrived did a good job of setting it up how I requested. Overall, it was a good transaction. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was due to an employee calling to request if it would be okay to deliver approximately an hour later than I had originally scheduled. I don't expect wonders out of the hot tub. I realized I was buying used and if anything malfunctions, I plan on doing all repairs myself. read more

I have been into River city spas a few times when we were looking for a used hot tub. Everyone there is always very helpful and knowledgable. We didn't end up buying a spa from here, but did use them for their spa moving services after we purchased a spa from a private party. We had actually hired another company to move the spa, but an hour before our scheduled pick up time the other company called and cancelled, and I called River City in a panic. They were awesome! Got us on the books later on that day, and kept me in the loop with the timing prior to arriving (my husband was meeting them at the spa pickup location). A neighbor of my parents told me about this place, he had a spa removed by them years back. Have them a call, sent them a picture of the spa and they gave me a reasonable price to go and remove it. They gave me a window between 10-12 and came around 11:15.. The 2 guys came back to see what they were up against. Laid some plywood down in the area where concrete were there wasn't concrete. I made room for them and took the gate off so it would be easier for them to get the spa out. I also removed the electrical so all they had to do was move. The guys knew what to do, I think it took about 30-40 minutes for them to get it loaded up. I have a small narrow area after you pass the fence but they were able to clean it with only having to remove one thing. If I ever decide to do a spa again, I think I'll contact these guys read more

Experience started out very well. Stopped in after seeing a spa listed on craigslist. Barry the owner was great and took time to show me the different spas and assured me he would stand behind the spas. Purchased on the spot and set for delivery. On the day of delivery waited and had the fence removed and no one showed. Called and was told they thought they had it scheduled for a different day. Said they would be right out after loading the spa. Did come a few hours later and the 2 delivery drivers were very nice. They did a good job putting in place exactly where I wanted it. Noticed the spa was missing a diverter valve handle which was on the spa when I looked at it in the showroom. It was also shown in the pictures listed on craigslist. Delivery drivers said they are not sure. They also said my new filters did not arrive and they would bring them out once they did. Contacted the lady who had called me about the delivery and let her know the valve handle was missing. She said it was at the store and she would have it brought out with the filters. She said it would be next week as this was on a Friday. Next week nothing came so I contacted her and she said she would look into it and get back to me. Another week went by and I reached out again and she said she no longer worked there and I needed to contact the owner. I reached out to Barry and he asked me what model number of filters I needed. Sent him a picture of the filters and the missing diverter valve handle. Said he would order the filters and would get me the handle. Does not sound like either were in stock. A few weeks go by and reach out again and once again it is like the first time I am asking. Asks the same question and wants a picture of the filters. Send all the info including my original text conversation with the lady that used to work there and no reply. Give it a few more weeks and text him again. Once again acts like it is the first time speaking on both items. Send all the info over and no reply. This same dance happens multiple times ending with me giving information but never getting anything. Over the 8 months between the first person and the owner Barry had no less then 6 attempts at getting the promised parts. Finally giving up at this point and going to order the diverter valve handle and new filters off Amazon since I have been using the old filters for over 8 months. Plus I have not been able to adjust the diverter valve on half of the unit with it missing. Be careful as what is promised is not always being provided. read more

I had river city spa move my hot tub. when i set up this appointment the woman on the phone asked about my spa size i told her i had a caldera spa. she said ok thats gonna take 3 of our guys so thats gonna be alittle more. the lady who set my appointment told me when I showed up to the location they were just putting the spa on the dolly. when I noticed that there was only 2 men and they were struggling. I asked the shorter one of the two why is there only two of you. His response was I dropped him off. I said oh were? his response to me was I dropped him off on the freeway. I said oh you shouldnt of done that it looks like you 2 are strugging and could of used the help. my hot tub was wobbly and hit the bottom corner and the cement. they left my lid on for my waterfall and it fell off and scratched to lid on the side that is visual thats when I started to get up set. so I called river city for them to place me on hold and then hung up on me. never did they call me back. I called back and a gentlemen answered the phone at this point im livid cause now I have the spa in the front of the sellers yard. my hot tub weighs approx. 860 I couldnt watch them any longer so in the middle of the move I told them to please put it back I felt like they couldnt and didnt really know what they were doing. they didnt take my waterfall lid of so it feel on the ground and scratched the top of the lid and left it on the ground. when they left they almost ran it over. very unprofessional and very disrespectful to me as the customer. when I told the gentql men what had happened he told me he didnt say that to me. that it didnt sound right. he also said my workers just called him and told him they left because I was yelling at them that was very untrue I told they I didnt feel confortable with the way they were transporting my spa. so I fired them. I would recommend never to use their service and dont know how they ever made a 5 star. This is my 2nd time with these people. The first time, when they were on Kent St., I got an ok spa and an odd-ball cover until his "new custom" ones came in. Month after month I would call...always told they never received them yet. Finally after 6 months I drove down when Barry was not there. Lo and behold there was a stack of new covers. I told his "manager" the size and was given one. As I drove out of their yard, Barry drove in and saw the cover and chased me down the street in his car. He was pissed that I ended up with a new one and not a used one. Weird experience. The second time I bought one from them on EG Blvd. Barry Jr. had to come out after hounding them, due to not heating up. A month later, more problems. After repeated request to do something, I finally went into their business and talked to their mobile tech. I have to admit, the guy was a little creepy. He made me feel like he was doing me a favor. I told my wife to show him the spa by going through gates outside rather than through our home...that's how concerned I was. My wife told me that he was checking her out...nice! Now the tub heats but also heats during the filter cycle. NICE JOB BOYS! I'm convinced he changed settings on the dip-switches. Hope this helps someone. read more

I recently purchased a spa from River City Spas and was very pleased with their level of customer service. Both Sheryll and Barry were very helpful in helping me find the right used spa. They delivered my spa, as promised, when promised and for the price they quoted- they even included a brand new cover which I ordered specifically to fold a particular way. Although they could have sent more delivery guys, the ones that arrived had a very can-do attitude, were super respectful of our new redwood deck and made sure our spa was settled safely on our back deck. Since I didn't have 220 power for the spa when I ordered it, Barry at the store offered to deliver my spa and then allowed me to delay the start of my 3 month warranty until my electricity was hooked-up and the spa was operational. I really appreciated that extra extension of service. Having an empty non functioning spa on ones deck is a good kick to get the power going...Finally, when I had everything hooked-up I noticed a very slight leak on the drain. I sent Barry a picture and he replied right away to let me know that all I had to do was purchase a small part(an o-ring), and then told me how to fix it. Problem fixed. Overall I was really happy with their customer service and prompt communication and would recommend them to anyone looking to buy a spa for their home. read more

I had been looking at used spas for quite some time. The internet is filled with hucksters baiting and switching on used spas. When I finally went to RCS, I was greeted by genuine people not trying to pull some sort of fast one on me. I was shown a few spas with the features that I wanted...then I asked their honest opinion on which one to buy. I had done my homework, and their suggestions were in perfect alignment with my research. We made a deal and 2 days later my Spa was on my deck...delivered at the time they said it would.... I also had some questions regarding operation and hook up of the spa. They were patient and responsive with me. They may be a little rough around the edges at RCS...but I would take that all day long as apposed to the hucksters down the street that will lie and do anything to get into your wallet. RCS is made up the kind of folks I love to do business with. Big selection. Knowledgeable Staff. ULTRA FAIR PRICES. Maybe the showroom is not a palace, but you can see them testing and fixing spas for sale. These folks hide nothing...because it seems that they have nothing to hide.
