This probably would have been a 4 or 5-star review, because overall I was happy with the finished product. But once a company has finished the job and has your money, how a company handles a follow-up issue is also important, and that is where this company lacks. I was having my pool replastered and signed a contract with J&F. I wanted to add a hand railing and an auto-fill function to my pool. J&F contracted this part out to another pool company they work with. I will just call him Rick. It was a few weeks after everything was done, when we turned on our hot tub for the first time since the pool was finished. The hot tub jets had little to no power. After failed attempts at DIY troubleshooting, I sent an email to J&F reporting the issue, and I was told someone would contact me. In the meantime, I had an issue with the auto-fill feature installed by Rick, so I called Rick back out to correct it. It had been THREE weeks since I reported the spa issue to J&F and they still had not contacted me for follow-up. Thinking it could be something as simple as a wrong-way valve, I asked Rick if he could see anything obvious as to why the jets were not working. Two and half hours later, Rick told me the jet outlets were clogged with a lot of the new plaster which Rick dug out for me. Rick got all but one jet firing on full power again, but that jet was at about half power and that was good enough for me. I paid Rick a very nominal amount for his time. I then emailed J&F back advising what occurred and would they be willing to reimburse me what I paid Rick since it was their doing that caused my issue, and I pointed out what I paid Rick was far cheaper than what it would have cost them to send one of their guys out (hour+ drive). I was told it should not be a problem. Another 2-3 weeks go by and I have heard nothing, so I email the office again and get a response that they requested I send them the invoice from Rick. I responded that I never received that request, and Rick did not give me an invoice, but I will try and get one from him. I made two email attempts to get an invoice from Rick, but he never responded. So I sent J&F a photocopy of my canceled check written out to Rick. Again, I was told they would reach out to Rick and get back to me. And again, they have not and it has been a couple more weeks. I shouldn't have to chase this down at every turn. This should have been taken care of weeks ago. Disappointed. read more

J & F did a fantastic job on our pool! Everyone in the company was a pleasure to work with! We had significant weather delays beginning our project in the Fall, but the construction crew made several visits to our home to keep the site clean in between visits. We chose Tahoe Blue mini-pebble and it looks better than we could have imagined. At the end of the project we noticed a small discoloration on the plaster and Steve and Frank came right out to take care of it. This company is fantastic!! They came highly recommended by several pool guys. I have a huge 55k gallon pool. They removed three levels of old plaster. Your supposed to have one. They found a few cracks which were stapled and repaired. And finally the gorgeous Tahoe Blue with quartz plaster. The crew is highly skilled and very knowledgeable. We hired this company to resurface/plaster my grandpa's pool. The job is crap. Over 11k and they did a terrible job. They make you sign a contract that shows the job can have certain obvious blemishes. The pool has some major obvious blemishes. They also expected my 80 year grandpa to brush it 2/3 times a day in the heat. The woman in the office, Cheryl/Sheryl is a real snatch as well. Go with another more personable service, these people just want your money and do not care about the quality of their work. read more

We had J & F replaster our pool in 2016 and last year the bottom step started to crack. The rest of the pool plaster is fine, but the crack goes from one side to the other. The plaster should last more than 5 years. Very disappointed. read more

They do amazing work! Very professional and quick. Our pool had 25 year old plaster that was literally coming off in chunks. We decided to do pebble tech instead of plaster and added abalone shells to the pebble tech. The only thing I would do different next time is I would have ordered 2 bags of abalone shells instead of just 1. Would definitely use them again! read more

I just had my pool resurfaced. If I had it to do over again, I would definitely checked with other companies. I accepted the referral of a friend. I can only assume they were much better when she had her pool resurfaced. They seem to be very unorganized. Although everyone was very friendly. There were several days between each phase. Which caused the project to drag on for a month. They were unable/unwilling to give any guidance regarding when to start adding chemicals. The day before surfacing, I received a call to let me know about what time they would show up. I was then given a list of things that I would need to do and not do once the pool was filled. These items should be provided to the client in written format. Not rattled quickly over the phone. They didn't instruct me not to use auto fill. Had I not asked why they were using a hose rather than my auto fill, I could have damaged my pool. Because they do it daily, they acted like I should know each step to take, like I do this daily!!! read more

Because of issues during and subsequent to the plastering, the whole job cost us a little bit more than the bid amount. J and F did a decent replastering job for us, but we felt because of the issues we had we could only give them a three star rating instead of the full five stars. We suggest the following: * For the set-up procedure, hire someone not associated with J and F. * After J and F personnel use anything of yours, check that equipment to be sure it's in working order. The replastering job is a 6 step process. (1)emptying the pool (2)removal of the existing plaster (3)preparation of the pool cavity and the exposed concrete for plastering (4) plastering (5) refilling the pool with tap water(6) setup process which is the preparation of the new water with the necessary chemicals. You have to find your own setup person. Setup cost is not included in the bid and must be done to preserve your warrantee. We think J and F did a good job in steps 2 and 4--removal of the old plaster and the replastering.. During step 3, a water faucet was damaged. For step 6, we paid a J and F representative do this step,, but the man doing the work didn't finish the setup. read more

This company began reno of my mom's pool, 2nd week in June. It is now mid July and the only work done to her pool is drain and removal of gunnite. I am wondering due to good reviews, is this treatment only for old ladies. This big empty pool is dangerous and with what is being charged for work the summer will be gone without being able to use. My wife and I attended the Spring Home & Garden Show in Sacramento, with the intention of seeking out a qualified pool refinisher. Our home that we bought came with a pool but the plaster was pretty well shot. J&F was one of 4 outfits that we got bids from. Initial price was a little higher than the others, but my wife was very impressed with the professionalism of Frank. He explained all of the options, and the process while reviewing the current shape of the pool. After considering all of the options, we opted to go with J&F. We were able to work out a price that closely mirrored that of another highly regarded competitor, and included a few 'extra' options that were not offered with the competitor. One being the drain covers on the floor of the pool are covered with the pebble material, rather than the standard white covers that scream "I'M RIGHT HERE" when the pool is full. Additionally the office staff is very good, and turnaround time on questions is typically a few hours to 1 business day if they couldn't/didn't know an answer immediately. Considering this is the busy season, I felt that was very prompt. J&F utilizes several different crews for each step of the process. This is ideal, because they can run several jobs concurrently without causing unnecessary delays to the customer if one or another crew gets tied up longer than expected at another jobsite. Materials were delivered on time, and the process for the most part was very smooth and easy. I give 5 out of 5 stars, with one minor caveat. J&F does NOT provide post installation startup. You (the customer) are responsible for securing a pool service to do the initial startup, and that cost varies depending upon your chosen service provider. I used Pool Time (see my review for them) and it was very reasonable. I would urge J&F to consider working with a pool service provider, if for no other reason than providing a seamless product line from start to finish. The pool however looks stunning. I did pay the extra charge to have the old finish removed versus plastering over the old. It will last longer, and the worry of a delamination is eliminated. Start to finish, aside from the City of Folsom permit check was 5 days! read more

Well my pool needed replastering! And I called a few places, J and F came out and gave me a quote. Everything that I heard sounded reasonable and good. I just got it done last Monday! One thing more off the list ( to do list ) and very happy with the outcome. Everybody involved in the office ( Sheryl ) and all the guys in the field. When I look at my pool, I'm happy! I hired J&F Pool Plaster to re-plaster my large pool back in 2019, after having the pool sit (with mosquito eating fish) for a couple of years. After a few minor hiccups with the contract, work proceeded and water was put in the pool. I faithfully brushed the the pool 2-3 times a day, and used their recommended start up people. The pool looked beautiful... Then the issues started. Start up people came out and started everything up when black particles shot into the pool. No one bothered to clean out the pool lines, so all that muck shot out into the clean pool. The start up people threw chemicals in the pool and that's all she wrote. A crack appeared almost immediately, and when I alerted J&F about it, their solution was LeakMasters, who were worthless. They tossed me back to J&F, who begrudgingly came out and smeared a white epoxy Marine strip on the crack that could be easily seen. When I questioned Steve about all these practices, he literally told me that if I was thinking of suing him, he would win because he hasn't lost before. What an odd thing to say. I felt like I was shooed away, they did as little as they could just to appease me and get rid of me. Fast forward to now, having NEVER been able to use my pool due to the start up people they recommended not getting a handle on my pool, I am sitting with an empty pool because well, no one wants a swamp in their backyard. The crack is very much apparent now, so I had another pool plaster company come out to check this crack. He took one look at the pool and asked me when I had it re-plastered. When I told him 3 years ago, he said "They must not have been concerned about their license, because there's some things that are not up to code." The drain and the suction are not up to code, which the code was changed 7 years ago, the diving board was left in place, and according to this new plaster company, no one should plaster with a diving board installed as that is not up to code either. The tile was an issue as well, with the strip (i forgot what he called it) that is at the top of the tile and directly under the concrete decking is also not up to code as that changed years ago as well. I am now being told I have to have the pool re-plastered...again, not because of the crack, but simply to bring it up to code. No company will fix this crack unless the pool is up to code. Things that J&F should have known, should have alerted me to, and should have addressed. I would absolutely not recommend this company, run far away from them. read more

This is the best experience I have ever had with a service company. We had three companies come out and give us estimates on replastering our pool. Steve came out to give us an estimate on a Saturday morning despite it being a rainy day, because that was what was most convenient to us. Their estimate was the best one we got. They started the job on schedule, finished on schedule, were not phased by a small issue we created along the way that required them re-seating some of the tile. They did an absolutely stunning job very quickly. We are recommending them to everyone we now with a pool. read more

This company did a re-model of our pool a few years ago. Recently, it needed a repair to the plaster work they originally did as it had a problem. Initially Office staff did not want to know about it and wasn't particularly polite. That got worse with time. She was downright aggressive and rude to both me and my wife at times. Failed several times to respond to emails and was not familiar with our job when we called. Frank was very fast to point out that the problem was not his responsibility. Initially, he said they didn't do the repair work, but eventually said they could. However, they were very slow on getting a proposal out and poor/no follow up. Needed a lot of prompting. The company they first referred us to was Leakmasters. Experience with them was terrible and a poor reflection on J&F. I would have given 4 or 5 stars for the first job. However, this one star is for our recent experiences. read more

J & F did my pool re-plastering 8 years ago in 2013. It is still in great shape and I would use them again in a heartbeat. I recently re-read my contract when referring them to a friend. There are a number of things they caution people about and declare ahead of time they are not responsible for. I totally understand that, and many of the bad reviews blame J & F for the problem, when in fact it was disclosed ahead of time that certain issues they simply cannot be held to blame for. Read their contract clauses and you will understand. This is the first "old pool" I've had and didn't really read all the stuff that can be wrong to begin with. Fortunately I had to pre-existing conditions that would affect their quality. Yep, I'll stay with them next time. read more

Frank is very verbally aggressive!! I would recommend always have two people their when meeting with him so you have a witness and backup. Our pool looked worse after J&F refinished it! Within days of replastering our pool with J&F's Quartz finish our pool looked worse than the 15+ year white finish. They blamed their recommended start-up guy, told us to wait for it to cure, blamed us, yelled at us, belittled us it was the most horrible experience I ever had!! I have been told they didn't mix the Quartz properly the amounts of product they used and water was not correct or mixed correctly. I was so scared of them I didn't follow through on litigation but regret it every time I look at pool. We tried to improve the appearance with their recommended acid wash guy at an additional $1600 but now it so rough it ruins your bathing suit and makes feet raw when the kids play in it for more than 30 minutes. Just 2 years later I'm looking to have it redone again because it gets worse everyday. read more

I used J&F for my pool replastering in 2019 which they did a fantastic job. I enjoyed working with Dave who was a great help afterwards. Move forward to 2021, the plaster in the shallow end was showing a few blemishes of chipping, which I then reached out and emailed Sheryl and she responded in a timely manner. She scheduled a day for Steve to come out and look at the pool. Steve came and assured me J&F will take care of any issues but continue to monitor. The chipping continued, but nothing horrible where the pool needed to be replastered but still concerning. I emailed Sheryl and she scheduled another meeting with Steve which he and Frank came out to assess my pool. They assured me again the pool is under warranty and scheduled a time in March 2022 to fix everything. Either a replaster or patch fix the chipping but would know once pool is drained. Following up with Sheryl in March she scheduled a time as promised. Steve and Frank came once the pool was drained and assessed the chipping which they fixed. No need for a replaster and they went above and beyond to fix everything and finished with a sealant. The pool looks great. Steve, Frank, and Sheryl were awesome. Truly amazing customer service and trust that is superior. read more

This three star review is not based off their plastering work, the plastering turned out very well the laborers from J&F did great work and were nice to be around. But the company is horrible at keeping in touch and when you and is quick to say "our secretary will call you back to schedule" when they or their sub contractors will come out. But when I wouldn't her from her for a week I would call and finally get ahold of "Sheryl" she usually sounds like she has an attitude when you start asking about a timeline. So I don't know if the disconnect is from her guys talking to her or from her getting back to us. But there is definitely a disconnect. I'm happy over all but disappointed with some of the finish work and things they failed to mention like removing the pool sweep connector from the wall and never putting it back among a few other things. Again overall satisfied but it's the little things that earn a 5 star review. read more

I called and left several messages over the course of about a week. No one called me back. I don't know why I even bothered to try again but I did and when someone picked up I let her know that my calls hadn't been returned. She couldn't care less and was totally dismissive -- all she wanted to do was move on and get my information. So I told her that though I'm not trying to be rude, I would expect that the first thing out of her mouth would be something like "I'm very sorry no one from our company has returned your calls." I told her that on second thought this was a bad sign and I would look elsewhere. I should have gone with my fist instinct and not bothered with a company who doesn't return phone calls and doesn't care if a potential customer has a gripe. In my experience it's always a harbinger of things to come. Unreliability at the very first point of contact, when a company is still trying to get your business, never leads to anything good. read more

He told me to call his office to get information and more pictures of various pools they had done. The gal there seemed nice, and she made a promise to call me back with the information. She never did. I called a few more times, she made more promises, each time I called, that she would call me back with the information, but she never did. I finally gave up. This company did an acceptable job initially on my pool for the price. But beware they don't want to help you once your pool has issues. They strung me along as I called over and over again to get help for rusts spots that started appearing in my hydrazzo surface pool within the first couple of years. They told me over and over again to wait a few months. Well finally my so called warranty was out of date and they now would not return my calls at all. I'm completely dissatisfied with this company and the unacceptable customer service they have. If you care about your pools warranty then don't go with this company. read more

Got 4 estimates, to replaster with mini pebbles, our 14,000 Gallon pool. All estimates, were pretty close in cost, but J & F 's estimate was more accurate, and I really liked the ideas, that Frank had for our pool. Frank helped me pick out new tile also. Frank is one of the owners. Frank suggested a "cabo shelf", and new LED Color light, which we love both. From start to finish, Frank and his crew were always on time, very professional, and the best part is there quality, it was excellent, very impressed, great customer service. We were very pleased with the work done by J & F. We had three estimates and they were all very similar, but we were impressed with the details Frank provided about the work they would do, any problems that we might encounter, the permit process, etc. They were the only company we talked to that took off all the old plaster (we had 2 previous coats). On our previous replaster a few years ago the company put the new plaster over the old coat and it didn't last well at all. We had the old floor cleaners and initially we planned to work around the existing system, but we decided that we should consider a pool sweep because of the amount of vegetation we have in the area. Frank gave us quote both ways, and we decided to go with the pool sweep. This required an additional plumber, but he works with J & F regularly and everything went smoothly. Frank also worked with our concrete contractor (who was installing a retaining wall) so they wouldn't get in each other's way. After the pool was filled, Frank talked to our regular pool cleaning company about the start up procedure. The communication was good. Both Sheryl and Sue kept us up to date on scheduling, the permit procedure, and pool start up. All of the crews who came out were very professional and courteous. They seemed sincerely interested in pleasing us and when they left the area was cleaned up and looked great. It's like having a new pool with an LED light, StoneScapes tropic's blue bottom, and new cleaner. read more
