I had a real Bad time here the past weekend. Me and group of friends try out this course for the first time. Off the bad the Marshall kept watching us even from the 1st hole. We been to a lot of good golf course and this one was ok on some holes. The others were dry as hell. there's no water in any ponds. Next you know it the Marshall came down and told us to speed up our game cuz were slowing people down but the group behind us was barely tee off the same time we were. Also the sprinklers were on at primetime hour at 9 AM. I hit my ball and landed in the middle of the sprinklers fairway. Come on turn off the sprinklers. Then the Marshall comes over saying were slowing it again and I show him you have the sprinklers on what you want me to do. Marshall told me skip the hole. He told her straight out if you don't get this whole I will kick you off the course with no refund. It took us under 4 hours to finishes with 4 people. This is the last time I'm coming here. read more

I had a tee time at 11:03 am on Sat Aug 19, 2023 and we started with no delay. The service of the pro shop was very satisfactory, but we had a big problem with playing manners of the twosome following us. At the No 2 hole (par 3 hole), the guy behind us shot into us with us playing the hole. I yelled at the guy in anger. After holing out, I waited for the guy coming and spoke to him that he should not shot into us. What I was even angrier was his reply "I know" obviously it was not accidental. To make matters worse, he did the same on the next hole while we were plying in the fairway. The course should ban such players from playing there, as they can find who played in the next group following 11:03 am. Please keep the players safe while playing. read more

Very strange course. Par 70 with lots of per 3s and 5s. My buddy and I were the first to tee off at 5:57am and we finished in just over 3 hours which was amazing. The layout is quite odd. Lots of holes along the river that drop down next to the river bed and back up to the green. Tons of sand. The greens were perfect and the bulk of the fairways were in decent shape. Lots of up and downs make a cart a must. The greens keepers and office staff were nice. Cheap golf and a fun day. read more

I'm giving this course a higher review because I just like the vibe here. It's a little tucked away oasis in the middle of Santa Ana, the staff are friendly, and their putting course is well maintained and super fun. My dad wanted to play a round during the week and I accompanied as caddy/cart driver since I'm recovering from an injury at the moment and all I can say is this course is NOT easy. It's chaotic, challenging but fun! The holes criss cross over the river and have major elevation changes, but for the price I think it's worth a day trip. I personally wouldn't walk this course (dad called it a goat trail lol) and the greens aren't visible from tee box. Many of the holes and fairways are narrow but for a more experienced golfer this wouldn't be a problem. Anyway, we'll be back to play again! read more

The course closes at 7:30 pm But they start pulling the flag out at 4:30 pm while there still is sun light. I understand you get what you pay for but really? The green is maintained alright and it's a lot of going back and forth across the river. It's a great value course but if you are thinking about teeing off anytime after 1:10pm during the winter season don't even bother thinking that you might get through the course. We were constantly waiting behind the group ahead and people are just hitting the balls left and right without courtesy. I'll pass on this course unless it's early tee time. read more

Do not play here when it's set up for the 9 hole rain course. Normally, 48 bucks with cart is a great deal for their quirky and fun 18 hole layout, but 28 bucks for a 9 hole executive is a rip off. There is a link on the confirmation email they send you to check course conditions. I didn't see this until it was too late, but apparently due to the recent rains they are draining the Prado reservoir into the Santa Ana River- hence Riverview. Anyways, there is no access to the course on the other side of the river so they set it up like a 9 hole executive. 3 super short par 4's and the rest par 3's. I'd rather walk it for 15 bucks but I'm not even sure that's an option. Since our tee time was early and the starter was late, the Marshall told us to pay when we finished so I didn't know what they would charge. Anyways, nice to find out they are family owned, don't mind as much. However, I will be checking the course conditions whenever I play there. read more

One of the best practice green facilities in Orange County and beyond. The course is maintained okay, not very pretty to look at but at least it is not boring. The up and down in the river bed may drive you mad. It is not an easy play. The marshall may or may not ride you for no apparent reason. On our recent round he would ride you about pace of play when there was seriously nowhere to go. The course design is largely to blame for the pace of play. Opening the course with a small par 4 and back-to-back par 3's isn't doing anyone any favors. Regardless, it is affordable golf in the OC which is rare. It's okay, but you surely aren't writing home to mom about it. read more

6/16/24 - Witnessed a domestic dispute between an intoxicated couple on the course. After hearing cries for help, we alerted the marshall. He was unwilling to offer any sort of assistance. He actually seemed bothered that we requested his help. To be clear, we were not expecting physical intervention, but It seems reasonable to assume that an establishment serving alchohal to the general public would have a sense of responsibility to protect their customers. Thankfully there was an off duty police officer who intervened becuase the marshall was completely useless. read more

Let me start this review by saying that it's a fun course to play with different elevations and greens are decent. BUT... Management really needs to fire their "Head" Marshall. We were constantly harassed by him. To be precise he approached us twice in the front 9 and again on the 10th asking us (foursome) to hurry up and keep pace with two player group in front of us (about a hole ahead). To be clear the foursome group behind us didn't wait on us on any holes. As we finished off our 18th, the group behind us was barely approaching the green on the 17th. Its hard to have a good time on this course with Marshall breathing down you for no damn reason. We finished our round in 3 hours 50 mins which included a break after the first 9. If the Marshall didn't waste 10 mins lecturing us on "USPGA" pace of play every chance he got we would have finished it even earlier. It's safe to say that I won't be coming here again. And if you're someone who shoots around 90 go somewhere else and play in peace cuz you won't find it here. read more

"Beware of homeless, came close to physical confrontation". Went to the driving range yesterday to hang out, enjoy a beer and drive some balls. When I went to go sit on the outside patio area a homeless man decided to sit directly behind me when nobody was around when there were many tables available. I did not like his body language so left to go sit closer to the driving range. I was waiting for him to leave and he wasn't leaving. I then finally got up to leave and of course he got up at the same time. When I made it into the parking lot he was walking with me going towards me, and I had my nine iron in my hand swinging it casually to let him know I was ready. Luckily one of the workers was watching him as well which I greatly appreciated. I'm thinking that they were familiar with this man, but not sure. Overall, a thank you to the worker who was watching the homeless man. The worker knew he was up to no good. -and overall this is a great place to go drive some balls. read more

Parking near the driving range was limited. If you check in, you get a free small bucket of balls. I recommend coming when it's not too sunny. The field in the evening has the sun hitting your face. I still prefer miles square park driving range. I feel like the set up is better. read more

When we first got there, we were pleasantly surprised as there weren't too many golfers. Normally at that time, you get a lot of people trying to take advantage of the twilight discounts. Thanks to the lack of people and the long sunlight (it was first week of July), we were able to get to the half way point within 1 1/4 hours. We were really happy and thought, "finally, we may get to finish the entire 18 holes AND get twilight discount!" Then reality hit. Though the sun didn't set until 8PM and the cart didn't have to come in until 7:30, they started to pull the flagsticks out from the holes around 6:15. For you first timers here, they built the course around a dry river bed. Coupled with this being our first visit here, it was very difficult to know where the green is quite often, let alone where the cup is on the green. Needless to say, the speed of our game dramatically slowed and after couple of holes, we gave up and came in. Upon returning to the clubhouse, we went to speak to the employee at the check in desk. He wasn't mean, but his attitude was "I can't do anything". I'd say something like, "well we couldn't find the green on the hole (can't remember exactly which one) after they pulled the flagsticks out." His reply, "those are the rules". My comment, "but we don't have to bring the cart until 7:30 and the sun doesn't set until after 8PM these days. It would be good to play until then with the flagsticks so we can see where the holes are." His reply, "those are the rules". He did have one other reply. My question was, "may I speak with the manager?" His reply, "they are all on vacation". I said, "ALL of them?" His reply, "yes". Clearly, this was issue with other customers, and he had ready-made answers. It also answered the question, why are there less people here than other courses during twilight. Wish he would have told me all this when I called in to make the reservation. At least I could have had the chance to decide before I drove all that way during rush hour. read more

This is my home course and can't play there enough. It is challenging enough for the experienced player and not too pricy enough for a newcomer getting into the sport. It has a full 18 par 71 and the greens, fairways, and bunker areas are well kept throughout the year. They also feature an 18 hole putting green with plenty of other space to practice. No chipping around the green though please. read more

I am going to start this review by saying its been about 3 years since I played this course, and I dont know if they have done any significant improvements since then, but this still ranks as the worst golf course I have ever played. The bad: -I felt like on half the holes you are hitting up a hill to the green. Watching your ball roll back down a hill, or having to constantly chip on steep slopes is highly annoying. -Having to drive the golf cart over floating docks with no rails is scary. Almost as scary as the graffiti ridden concrete tunnel that goes under the road. -Hole number nine is a lovely 91 yarder from the red tees with a lake in front, the parking lot directly behind, and the practice green to the right. Miss the green and you are either in the water or you are breaking someones car window, miss the fairway and you take out a pedestrian. Its honestly not even worth the risk of trying. -The "river view" is more like a "concrete drainage channel view". If there was at least a decent course design I would say it would be a good place for learning due to the price, but I dont even think its worthy of that. This place gets 2 stars because at the very least my one trip here gave me priceless stories I will be telling for a lifetime. read more

Lots of golf balls in the parking lot and had my window broken from another golfer. Hole #9 is unsafe and has golf balls flying into their parking lot daily. This is an ongoing issue that has been happening for years the club does not care enough about their clients to fix this issue and do not cover damages on their property by other golfers, it's ridiculous! A ball flew through the parking lot and almost hit me! Don't come here unless you are willing to have golf balls break your car windows, leave dents, and leave you having to end up paying thousands in damages. Now I have to pay $600 in repairs out of pocket for my car window that was broken by another golfer at this club. read more

I'd leave it at this. You get what you pay for. For $55, it's good. Course is maintained for the most part. Pace of play tends to be decent once you get past the 4th hole. The practice putting green is probably one of the better in the area and come frequently for. Don't park in the spots behind the 9th hole. The netting needs to be replaced, reinforced, and widened. The only thing I really can't stand here are the practice mats. They need an upgrade in a very big way. The current ones are used and abused and don't like hitting anything more than a small bucket here in fear of damaging my clubs. read more

I have lived in Santa Ana for a long time. I have played at RiverView a lot. In the past year or so they have either been purchased or are at least managed by a different company. They are making a lot of improvements. Their practice putting green has always been good and that has not changed. You should not miss out on a chance to use it. The driving range is much improved with a new area to do short chipping. The tee boxes are good. The fairways are very good and the greens are average. The course does their best to take care of the greens but please...people...fix your divots. It does not take that long and the people behind you will thank you. Here is my take on the hated dried up riverbeds. IN THE PAST every winter it would rain and the dam by Green River would release some water and there really would be a River to View. Unfortunatley when the river dried up they spent a huge amount of money to replant the grass. Now they have just let that go. If you don't like the riverbeds, don't hit into them. It is pretty clear at the tee where you need to hit the ball. The food at RiverView is always good and the prices are fair (less expensive than at other courses.) They could put in a telephone at the 9th hole so that the turn is a little quicker. read more

River View is an interesting golf course with pretty imaginative use of real estate. It runs along both sides, and crosses, the flood control channel which is the Santa Ana River. There are a few holes that run parallel to the channel, so there is not much elevation difference in these holes, then you have homes that drop into and then out of the channel, so you may be hitting a tee shot from an elevated box onto the fairway, then hitting back up to an elevated green. There is a fair bit of water in play, depending on recent rain, with the river splitting the course in two. In most cases, the water in on the right, so slicers be warned. When down in the river channel, they do a good job keeping the course in nice shape, but you are in a river bottom. The fairways are going to be a bit sandy and heavy. Greens are generally in good shape, with a little bit of slope, but nothing too outrageous. read more

A fairly challenging course, but due to the recent dry spell in California there's not much of a river. I certainly plan to come back! The parking lot is a nightmare. The course is located in a neighborhood so the parking lot is much smaller and more narrow than others that I've seen. This place is a pretty technical course. You must be able to control your drives. Straight isn't always an option...ton of elevation changes on approach and some hairy fairway conditions, depending on the rain (because it is located in a rain and gutter run off). All in all though this course is pretty fun but high handicappers are a plenty which can make it a bit scary. But great course for a tune up round! read more
