4/3/21 Saw the swings and I HAD to stop and have a drink! We ordered the El Pendante Andante and hopped on a swing. A worker was walking by as we were struggling to take pictures of each other and snapped a pic and videos of us. She was super sweet, didn't speak English but when it was a bad photo/video she was like do it again. Drink was good, service was good. We were there at 6:30pm so it wasn't busy, a few tables were occupied. Not much to report. read more

So you don't come here for the food. It's more about the drinks the have a great happy hour situation. The have these pouches of drinks it's 2 for $4 the have medalla 2 for $3. The musics is very loud. But it's a bar they have two sides but one side is only opened on the weekends. I had fish tacos. It was t great they use prepackaged fish. I know it would be way better if they used fresh fish. And we got fries for the table. They are real potatoes which are really good!!! The drinks are the best here! The main attraction would be the swings. People seem to love them!! The bathrooms has no running water. But it's cool! read more

This place was so fun. Lots of locals partying, great service( Alexandra) and amazing live music. The violin player jamming out all these great Puerto Rican classics was so amazing. We came in bc we wanted food , it was 1030 and they were still serving. My wonton and crab salad, kind of like a dip, came out pretty quickly. And it was tasty. There was a problem with my husbands chorizo burger, they felt it was too small , so they were cooking another patty. It came out in awhile with double patties and a giant basket of fries. It was very good with a super cute presentation on a log slice and a cute fry basket. The mojiito I had was perfect and strong but in a good way. They had lots of flavors but I went for the classic. Cool spot with rope swings hanging from the ceiling! We went in the afternoon, but the place has a very club sort of vibe. They have swings directly inside the doorway, a quirk I had hoped would continue throughout the restaurant, but no luck. My sister and I managed to get a couple of cute pics in them on the way out. They have a variety of Mojito options. My sister chose the original while I opted for the strawberry. Absolutely delicious. The cocktails were strong and made with fresh ingredients. Mint and strawberry make a great combination. We ordered a sampler platter of deep fried foods, I could only eat the Guava option. I was told everything else on the plate was good, too. They offer a vegetable mofongo, which I hadn't seen on a menu before. Um, yes please. The food seemed to take a long time to come out despite it being pretty empty. I'm not sure what they cooked the veggies in, but they were good. The plantains were seasoned just right, too. Definitely a spot to check out if you're in the area. read more

Went here on a Thursday night and I've never seen slower bartenders. We were at the bar and waited for 5-10 mi it's for someone to acknowledge us. The bartender took the persons order next to us but never even said hello or just a minute. We left. read more

I am appalled by the treatment as unprofessional behavior here. We came in and was seated for 20 minutes for someone to assist us. Then they said that we could only order appetizers. Eventually we went to the bar to order a beer and to ask where was out waiter. Then magically he comes and says that we can only order three things off the menu meanwhile we just heard them take a full order from another table. I will not be back here. We came here multiple times during our stay in Old San Juan. Usually I'm hesitant when a place's sign says they have the best anything, but it truly was the BEST mojito I've ever had!! I was obsessed with the parcha (passion fruit) mojito. We tried the regular mojito and several other flavors. I love that they are all made with freshly muddled fruit instead of flavor syrups. It was the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday, roughly 4pm. We had been perusing through the cobblestone streets of Old San Juan since the morning hours, with an eye toward finding a place where we could kick back a few and take in the local bar scene. Many of the places we'd been passing by were dead for the most part. And then we stumbled upon Rivera Hermanos. We were quicky drawn in by the medley of salsa music and loud patrons that was emanating onto the street. So we entered, cautiously at first. Clearly there were no toursists here, so our intial reaction was one of curiosity as to why it was so crowded. We were quickly offered a free mallorca sandwich by a bubbly middle-aged man behind the bar. "We are celebrating 39 years today" he said in Spanish, as he invited us to enjoy the party and help ourselves to as much free food as we wanted. We of course obliged, then spent the next few hours enjoying one of the most pleasant and spontaneous experiences we've ever had in any bar, anywhere. RH is run by three lovely ladies: Ibis, Marga and Mercedes--the last remaining first-generation Riveras that started the establishment. Ibis was my personal bartender for the duration of the party. She was incredibly friendly, always attentive, and made a killer rum and coke... which was only $3.50!! Draft beer was a mere $1.50... everybody was smiling and having a great time!! The live band was fantastic, the vibe so infectious that my wife and I danced along with the crowd; many of whom, we learned, were pro-independence from the U.S. We even ended up hanging out with the Puerto Rico Minister of Finance and his family. I could only imagine how much fun this bar is on regular nights! You just never know what you're going to find in a place like Old San Juan. Sometimes you just have to follow your ears. If you're looking for a bar that truly is "made by locals, for locals," then don't miss out on Rivera Hermanos. You will definitely love it... and so will your wallet. read more

If you appreciate live Latin music, then you would like this place. I loved being able to sit and enjoy my drinks while listening to the beautiful sounds of the violin, drums and guitar. I wasn't a fan of the fish tacos but maybe their other options are better. However, their mojitos truly are amazing. I love coconut mojito so everywhere I go, I have to try the coconut. This was definitely top 3 best mojito I've had. Staff is also nice and attentive. It's loud though because of the music so if you don't want a loud environment, this may not be the place for you. read more

Tourist trap! They say "free" drinks to get you in. clearly nothing is free but thought maybe it would be cheap. Free drinks came with a purchased App. Nachos were ok, but not 20 bucks worth. When got the check it was for over 70 bucks!!! The "promotion" that was told to us was a lie. read more

Visiting PR with friends and we stopped here twice for the ginger honey mojitos. Rivera Hermanas claims to have the best mojitos and I struggle to come up with a counter-argument. Ambiance is fun and playful with swings, murals and music. Food menu is available but mojito menu is where it's at. read more

SCAM!! We were invited to come for a free mojito.. nothing was said about restrictions, when we got there we were told the drinks would be free with an appetizer. We ordered shrimp nachos that maybe had 4 small cut up shrimps that were an extra $7 (which we did not know)for the shrimps. The first round of mojitos were the little 5oz plastic cups half full of mint and sugar. The second round barely had any booze. The one tasted like straight sour juice. $70 later for one round of solo cup mojitos and a single appetizer, even the server told us the charge was bull shit. In addition to all that, we were eaten alive by mosquitoes. It's no wonder the place was empty. Don't waste your time. I have Never in my life left a bad review, but we did not even get offered to speak with a manager or dispute the price. 3 of our 4 patrons are in the service industry and we are embarrassed for this type of behavior from any restaurant. My best experience in San Juan. Ran into this place by accident and soon fell in love with this place. Though not fancy decorated, music is absolutely genuine local and excellent. Great atmosphere if you'd like to try something Puerto Rican. Mostly locals hang out there. But they are super nice to foreigners. This place is horrible. The service is worse. Came in, smelled awful downstairs and asked if i could be seated in the 2nd floor tables & they denied at first & then said go ahead. We sat upstairs and they never came, we waited for more then 10mins. We came down and asked if we were ever gonna get service, and the lady and guy bartender said that if we didnt sat downstairs we had no other choice than to leave. Worst service ever! Was thanks giving week of 2015 day after visiting my brother who lives up the street Calle del sol. He says want to enjoy old time P.R. Music and friendly locals? Well hell yes so we walk to Rivera Hermanos I could here that beautiful sound of the cuatro and my feet said hurry its dance time. Greeted at the door by one of the lady's who own the place they all new my brother. The music was fantastic, salsa, plenas, merengues, and down home Jibaro music. Felt like at last I'm home again. No tourist only locals, met a beautiful lady turned out to be a profesor at the university of PR. Drinks were cheap cheap cheap, place not fancy but friendly and homey I understand it's only open Friday, sat at night only?? For music daytime for sandwiches and such. You we'll find plenty of restaurants on that street lots of bars catering to tourist young people so you well hear typical American music loud and louder. If your Boricua or New York Rican and you need a PR fix then this is a must see must stop. read more
