Riverfront is a staple of Abbeville cuisine. They have rebuilt from a disastrous fire a couple years ago and they are definitely not disappointing customers at all. Their food is deliciously fantastic with many different seafoods and not seafood items. This place will ultimately give your tastes buds an absolute treat... I think the Riverfront is really great. The interior was recently updated, for the better. The food is always excellent. The bar has a great atmosphere, although at times it can get a little crowded. They have margarita specials on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. It's a great place to eat...just try it. read more

Went to the Riverfront restaurant last weekend fully expecting a casual restaurant with typical good Cajun cooking. I was pleasantly surprised to find a new, upscale restaurant on the Vermilion River. We were a large group with most people trying different food items. Everyone commented on how tasty their meals were. I personally had the Shrimp Trinity, a dish prepared with fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, and a stuffed shrimp. It was very good, and I ate every bite. This one is a no brainer. I will definitely be back!! read more

They can cook a mean, juicy chicken! If you go get the crab dip appetizer, you can almost get it as a meal!!

The food was delicious! Nice environment! The food tasted more like home cooked Cajun style or maybe more like what I grew up eating! We enjoyed the entire visit. The only thing I wasn't super excited about was the sweet potato mash. It was good but tasted more like maple syrup and I prefer the cinnamon butter flavored mash. We will return again! read more

went to abeville for oyster on sunday but every place with the exception of riverfront was close. decent bloody m. for $4 can t complain, ribeye was very good, grilled shrimps ok, cabage+tasso good, service good, nothing fancy but rather solid and real. people were happy and satisfied. missing my sunday oyster though read more

We were traveling through Abbeville, and ate here because it was the only place open on Sunday. It was AWESOME!! Our server was great, food was great and atmosphere was great!! We had the crab fingers sautéed in butter for an appetizer. They were seasoned perfectly! We had the Shrimp and Crab Angelo. It tasted just as great as it sounded. This is definitely a place we will add to our must eat at when we visit south Louisiana. Highly recommended, especially over the restaurant we ate at Friday night (an older established restaurant Abbeville is known for). Give them a try!!! read more

Went here after hearing about it from several friends. Didn't get to try anything, but my experience was horrible. Walked up and was greeted by someone who asked where we would like to sit. We chose outside and he said our server would be there shortly. After 20 minutes of sitting watching servers go to other tables, but not us we went inside to find out what was going on. Hostess informed us that they "couldn't find our server" and she came outside with menus. We asked for a drink menu which she brought and asked what we wanted to drink. We asked if we could have a minute to look over the drink menu and she left. 30 minutes later we still sat there, not even getting a glass of water, and watched other tables get service and food around us. I guess they never found our server and no one wanted another table. We left after 50 minutes of waiting. I heard later that this place used to be a bigger location, but burned down. I also heard they have a new lot of land. Maybe they will rebuild and have better service, but I doubt I will go back here. read more

Pretty good food; I liked the chips a lot, though the steak tacos were a bit underwhelming- the salsa was a bit too overpowering and the tortilla was too big. The drinks were great, though. I got a pair of margaritas, which were both delightfully strong. This would be great for the summer, when the patio is open and avaliable. read more

Deck is nice, but not quite. Right next to highway. Food is waaaaay over priced, $16 for 2 mediocre fish tacos. Ridiculous. Arrived @1 for lunch, out of all crab which is 1/3 their seafood menu. Didn't get entrees till 2:15 (45 mns after order) and not that busy. Bill was $70 for two kids meal and two taco meals with 2 drinks. Ohhh and refills not free $5 for kids lemonade. Ridiculous. On the spur of the minute after Church, we decided to drive around looking for a place for lunch. After a few minutes, she remembered that she'd been taken to a great place in Abbeville while attending some FEMA training classes a few months ago. Upon finding the restaurant, we discovered that it was closed. Just down the block, however, we came across The Riverfront... and boy, were we glad we did. An unpretentious place right on the Bayou Vermilion, with a nice-sized outdoor deck, seemed like a place almost too-good-to-be-true for a pleasant Sunday lunch. The server, Sydney, was incredibly prompt, polite, and well-informed about the menu. My wife order the crab cakes with pasta while I ordered the Sunday special Bloody Mary and a fried shrimp-catfish platter with house-fried chips. For dessert, I had a homemade ice cream sandwich and my wife had the bread pudding. Here's my summary: In no time, our lunch arrived. The Bloody Mary arrive promptly. Thick.. cool.. flavorful.. everything a Bloody Mary should be! The sweet tea was tasty, a lovely complement to the sunny, pleasant day that was in progress while we chatted and enjoyed watching the traffic on the Bayou. Food - WOW! The crabcakes were amazing. Lightly fried with little filler. *very* tasty. The fried shrimp and fried catfish were very lightly breaded. Fried to perfection, they were both flaky, moist, and delicious. The cook in this place fully realizes that seafood has a delicate flavor that can be easily overpowered, so he/she is careful with the preparations. The homemade chips were *perfect*. The homemade ice cream sandwich had a delicious cookie surrounding a generous helping of ice cream. PDT ("Pretty Damn Tasty" as my friend Charlie says). Service - prompt. efficient. polite. everything you should expect *and* more. We were promptly greeted with smiles and quickly seated. Our server, Sydney, was quick to meet us out on the deck, take our order, and get us some drinks. She later asked us about dessert, confiding in us that she'll be leaving soon to attend the culinary program at Nicholls State and would really like to eventually become a pastry chef. How could you not be charmed by such a cute, polite,ambitious young lady? When we asked to speak with the manager, we were promptly greeted by yet another cute, charming young lady who was so pleased to hear us rave about her restaurant's performance. Price - very reasonable. $16 and $18 for entrees, $2.25 for tea, $4.00 for Bloody Mary, $6.00 for desserts. Atmosphere - Geez, do ya have to even ask? :) We were seated on a deck, next to Bayou Vermilion, just one block from the downtown area of a small town in South Louisiana on a lovely, sunny Sunday morning. This is one of the best resturants in Abbeville, LA. It relocated a few years back and everything is new. I have not had a poor meal and i typically try different types of food. I had a bowl of gumbo and duck quesadilla. A first for me. I will return when I am through Abbeville in the future. read more

Tried this place out, we won't be back. Ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer- for 11 bucks. I have pulled stuffed mushrooms out of my freezer that tasted better and tasted more fresh. They had that reheated looked to them and tasted about the same- old and reheated. They were lukewarm, not even hot and one of the mushrooms was cold in the middle. My husband ate the. Because he was starving and we had already been waiting a little while. We both got Caesar salads, there was a very weird taste to them. I was told the restaurant makes it's own salad dressing so I am guessing that is where the weird, bitter taste came from. I ordered the eggplant Evangeline, which was good but again, tasted no where near fresh. My husband had the grilled shrimp which he said were good. I got fries for my little one and they had a weird taste to them also. Like a bitter taste and of course they looked old and like they had been sitting a while. My husband's sweet potato fries looked fresh and actually tasted fresh. My daughter had the seafood gumbo and ate it all so I am guessing it tasted ok. Overall I was very disappointed. All of the food was like warm at best. Nothing was hot and it sure didn't look or taste fresh. I honestly don't know how this place is in business, serving food like that. We have been faithful customers to Riverfront for over 10 years now, and WILL NEVER RETURN after tonight! This place is always our go to place on many Friday nights, tonight I had a group of 10 with me and so we called at 5:00 pm and made a reservation for 8:00 pm. We were so happy to be celebrating my daughter's dancing recital at Riverfront. We get there at 7:50 pm and half to wait for them to clean our table until 8:20 pm. At this point, we are like, "Ok, we know what we want, let's just order". Upon sitting down with half of the tables available in the place, that we should have been seated at for our RESERVATION time of 8:00; we order drinks and our entrees at 8:30, have drinks and start looking around. Before you know it, its 9:00 and I've watched 2 other parties of 8 that came in after us and ordered after us, get served their food before us. 9:15 rolls around, and we ask our waitress to check on the kids food, which we specified that we wanted to come out first before everything. She says, "They are working on it". 9:25 rolls around, "Manager, where is our food???" He comes to the table and says "its coming right out", and of course, it didn't come right out. At this point, its 9:30 and my kids are screaming and all of my family and guests are so angry. My wife and kids and I were forced to walk out of this place. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON, that when you make a reservation over 3 hours ahead of time, get there before the reservation time, and are not served an hour and a half past your reservation time. There are plenty of other great seafood restaurants in Abbeville; they will now be getting my business and all of my family and friends business. When you have good food, but terrible service, it is the beginning of the end for you!!! took my wife out to Mother's Day lunch. took her to riverfront. made RESERVATIONS THE DAY BEFORE . we were taken t a small corner table and promply forgotten about. no water or cocktail offer or anything for 5-8 minutes. the place was not crowded, but i made the reservations because it was Mother's Day and neither of us had ever been there before. looking around to gain someones attention, i noticed a partially eaten fried shrimp on the floor, and after tiring of the neglect from the staff, as we left we noticed several other bits of debris on the floor. This new location is better than the old cramped place, but could still improve on the atmosphere. I give it a B+. Food was good, but we got a table right in a high traffic area where there should be no tables. Service was very good, and I had one of the best Manhattan's in a restaurant here. I recommend the shrimp bruschetta appetizer, which was excellent, and notable for it's great bread, tomatoes and cheeses. Too big for two people but worth putting in the go box. We also tried the crab dip, also excellent. Then the seafood platter which was very good, well seasoned and cooked right, but in retrospect we should have gone with 1/2 and 1/2, cause the fried shrimp and oysters were so good. didn't care for the stuffings.
