This was a FUN trip for beginners. It actually made us itch for higher rapids- but maybe the water was low and calm in August. We had Saul as a guide and he was amazing, experienced, and the best paddle splasher of everyone, so even if a raft of 6 people attacked us with splashes, he could douse them twice as hard with one go. Half way you get to rest and they turn the bottom of a raft into a slip n slide. You also have a couple times where you have the option of getting out and swimming (floating down river in your life vest). August was perfect for this because the water was so refreshing compared to the heat outside. Things I wish I knew beforehand: - There's porta potties, a changing station, and a hose off area at the rafting company. You take the bus 10 mins to the river and 15 mins back. - This is not a private rafting adventure. You are with about 7 rafts of 50ish people (2 bus loads.) If you have less than 6 people, you will likely be placed with strangers in a raft, which is fine if you are an extrovert like me. - The current cost of the photos is $50 and $10 extra for an airdrop. In hindsight, it would've been a lot cheaper to buy a waterproof cell phone carrier ($10) to take my own pictures. Yes there are calm moments that you can take pictures. Also, if you're not in the front of the boat, you aren't in 90% of the professional pictures. Also, I would get an XL phone holder so you can carry your car keys and other necessities in it. However the company does give you quality shots and take pics of you going down rapids. - You can take a water bottle. The guy on the phone said I could tuck it into my life vest. Our guide said for me to hold it. I did both. - Take cash to tip your guide. I would totally use this company again, and am thinking of bringing a group out for my son's birthday. There's a group discount of $10 per head in groups of 10. Otherwise, I don't know how people paid so little other than the fact that inflation has skyrocketed prices. I see reviews for $17 with Groupon back in 2018, which don't exist anymore, but we paid $60 per head. read more

This is definitely a family friendly rafting adventure. My whole family ( kids 11-18 yo) had so much fun. We went last Tuesday and went back again on Thursday. AMAZING TIME! Don't say there's nothing to do in Bakersfield when there are places like River's End Rafting! Made a special trip to Bakersfield just to go whitewater rafting and it was such an EXCITING experience! When we arrived at 1 pm, the weather was already blistering hot. The price is usually $40 for first-timers and $25 for repeat visits. We came in on a weekday with a Groupon so our first time was $25 per person anyhow. The meeting area was an open area with overhead roofing and water spray fans. The check-in crew were pretty friendly and we got to meet our guides, Carson and Faith. Able to pose for photos next to one of the buses and stack of large water rafts. I think we stuck around for at least half an hour before boarding the buses because there were a few latecomers who still were able to participate. Rode the bus to the Kern River and given safety instructions by our guides. If you swim in the water, you MUST point your feet toward the direction you are heading as if you are lying in bed reading your favorite novel. After putting on my life preservers, I treaded gingerly onto our raft! HERE WE GO! The raft started moving and it was a strange feeling to be paddling this unstable rubber boat. We approached another raft. We started splashing the other raft because it is the start of a friendly raft war! When we approached areas that were turbulent, we'd perform some special maneuvers like paddling forward on the right side while paddling backwards on the left side which would cause our raft to spin while going across the rapids! WOAH! That was HELLA FUN! When we got to calmer areas, we were offered to get out of the boat and float/swim with the current. Well, who can resist such an offer? I got out of the raft and floated with my feet leading the way. WOW! The water is pretty cold in this hot weather! We reached the halfway point where we did a couple water games. The first was a game like musical chairs except you hold onto your paddle. The guides will call a number - 1, 2, or 3. You leave the paddle upright on the ground and let it go from your hand. If the number was 1 or 2, you have to grab the paddle to the left or right of you from your neighbor. If the number was 3, then you had to spin around and grab the paddle you were holding before it falls to the ground. If you cannot grab a paddle before it falls to the ground, you were eliminated. I held on for a several rounds before being eliminated but it was still great! The other game was a makeshift water slide by flipping the rubber rafts over. You run towards the makeshift slide and jump onto the underside of the rubber raft and slide into the water. I tried not just once but twice! Some people didn't have enough momentum and was stuck in the middle. However, I slid in head first on the first attempt and also tried a fancier maneuver by sliding on my back head first on the second attempt! AWESOME! We were hesitant to go rafting initially but firm believers in this rafting experience! Next time I am in the area, you know where I'll be! RAFTING! read more

We were a group of 12 that did their signature 2hr The Blaster package. When I did my research, they were one of the more affordable ones on the Kern River. If you're more of a thrill seeker this package won't be for you. But it's definitely safe for the kids and beginners like us. It was an easy ride down the river with a few more exciting spots. It starts off with a short bus ride to the starting point where they do a safety briefing and then we get to take off with 1 guide to each raft .There were a couple spots we were allowed to jump off the boat and float ourselves. It was 110 outside and the water was super cold and refreshing. About midway through, all the rafts parked on a small sandy area and we did the "slip n slide". They turned a raft upside down and we ran and slid off it and into the river. At the end you hop back into the bus to the starting point. Everyone had lots of fun and it was definitely worth it. An amazing experience for some first time rafters! Bradon was our guide and made sure our group felt safe and had a great time. He even got in the water and swam with us and taught us a fun trust game with the paddles! As an aside, we got locked out of car, and the entire team stayed with us for *3 HOURS* while we waited for Triple AAA, and made sure we departed safely. Megan not only called Triple A for us and handled all the affairs (as our phones were also locked in the car), but also provided us with snacks and water. Rafting aside, we were taken aback by the kindness and efficiency shown by the guides at River's End. We are so thankful and will be back again soon!! read more

It was my first time white water rafting, and I decided to take my friend and brother along. I was looking forward to two hours of fun and excitement, but that wasn't exactly what I got. While the experience was pretty fun, it certainly wasn't as exciting as I was expecting. There was only really one short part of the river that was kind of thrilling, but that was it. Most of the it was just like going through a lazy river, except you had to paddle yourself. The safety talk was not very helpful. The guide that did it did not talk loud enough for all of us to hear and seemed very annoyed with the task. Our guide was Matteo and he was great. He did a good job keeping us entertained and it was easy to see that he knew what he was doing. Partway through the rafting experience we all pulled over on a lawn to empty water from the rafts and play some games. The game was pretty fun and I enjoyed the slip n slide that they made, but I certainly was not expecting it. It seemed like it was just a way for them to kill time. There was a bit of a mood damper that occurred there though. While Matteo was leading the game, another guide was helping him, but I guess it was supposed to be a one-man job. The guide that seemed to be the head guide or manager (the same one that did the safety talk) came over and grabbed the other guide by his vest and dragged him out of the circle to yell at him for not doing his job. I thought that this was very unprofessional and that grabbing him by his vest was completely unnecessary. They sell pictures once you return from your rafting experience, but they are extremely overpriced. Plus, they didn't really show the people in the middle or back of the raft. The girls working at the front were very friendly and helpful, however, which made for a great check-in experience. I won't be returning. I would much rather take my money somewhere else and get a more thrilling experience. read more

What a great experience! All the staff are knowledgeable, super fun, and dedicated to provide you with the best river rafting experience. This was my first time and I found the rafting and more turbulent areas to be easy, there were a couple families with kids. In total there were about 6 rafts with approx 6 people per raft (plus guide). Along the way there are areas where you can float, and engage with other rafters; great group of people on our trip, lots of fun splashing each other and just general hilarity. Recommend leaving a good tip for your guide, they are really hard working. Also suggest buying the professional pictures RER takes along the river. I can't wait to put another trip together!
