More fun than an amusement park rapids ride! Not exactly thrilling, given that the river was slow and lazy enough that you can float down stream on your back. There was a section of the river where they encourage you to jump overboard and cool off in the water. Still, the rapids were jolting enough to get your adrenaline pumping. The office staff is difficult to reach. Be prepared to do a bit of phone tag as you try to reserve your spot but it will be worth it. read more

Thanks River's End for a fun weekend adventure. I have to start off by saying thanks to Darron (owner of this company) for being flexible with this recent rafting trip. I purchased a Groupon last year for 2 people, but was not able to use it last summer due to timing conflicts and lack of dates/availability as the summer drew to a close. As such, I asked Darron whether it's possible for us to use our Groupon voucher for this summer and he gladly accepted. We booked our adventure for this past Memorial Day holiday. This was probably my 4th time white-water rafting and given that I've been on category IV-V rivers before -- this trip along the Kern River was definitely more of a level I-II. They set our expectations though when we booked our reservation by indicating that there was a lack of good currents / water conditions were poor because no snow in the mts. earlier this winter. :( With that being said, we probably only encountered 2-3 fun dips along the entire trip. I was a bit disappointed, but my husband enjoyed his time. It was his first time there and he was having a blast. :) We got stuck on rocks at least 3-4 times, but our guide was a super star -- he was able to get us off the rocks in the river and we proceeded on our way. If only there was more water in the river! Then, we wouldn't get stuck on rocks so much, haha... All in all - the trip was well planned and organized, everyone had fun and experienced a bit of excitement. :) Good way to end the Memorial Day weekend... Tip: if you're looking for a rather safe & fun adventure for kids, then this is a good bet for you... If you're looking for category III, IV, or V conditions -- this is NOT the river for you (at least for this season!) read more

I am really an adventurous person and loved how much effort the team puts into ensuring that we're having fun. I LOVE the enthusiasm this group of river leaders are. And I LOVE GROUPON for offering this one :) Heres the rundown: +Check in is smooth +Bus rides to and from the Kern River are filled with the team telling corny jokes :) That is so cute. +The current is strong but not life threateningly strong. +We got a chance to jump in and just swim with the current. +Loved jumping off the tree during our break. I think the only thing that caught me offguard was that I thought the rapids would be much stronger but it was ok. I wished it was crazier but we can't control the water right? If you have a waterproof camera like me and really have a strong hand with it, you'll be ok. In the beginning, they kept urging us not bring it because it might get knocked out... which really it might but you'll be fine if you're careful. SO MUCH FUN!! It was our first time river rafting and it's great for beginners!! Our group got the Groupon for the Master Blaster which takes you down the river TWICE!! We went on 09/10/11 and it was the LAST day of the season so it wasn't too crazy. They say the best time to go is around July-August so we'll keep that in mind next time!! Honestly, I was sooooo nervous thinking about river rafting but it wasn't scary at all!! I searched YouTube of a video of what to expect and all I found were CRAZY white water rafting videos so... I created my own and you'll hear and see how much fun we had!! The lunch wasn't bad at all... just your typical sub, pasta or potato salad, cookie & a drink. Wasn't much time between lunch and then having to go on the river again though.... I wouldn't advice eating the whole meal or getting super full cuz you might feel sick lol. Portable potty was SUPER clean so hooray for that... there was an area to rinse off your legs or feet so that was also nice. I didn't even bother going into the changing area after our two trips down the river cuz there were too many people... changed in the car!! :) Pictures were well worth the price!! BUY THEM ALL rather than buying just one... and it's so convenient that they put it on a USB thumb drive for you!! If you're sceptic about going... don't think twice and just do it!! OMG what an awesome experience!! My sister, cousin and I found decided on a whim to try rafting and they were the closest to us. It was so easy to book, the girl that answers the phone (can't remember her name) was super nice. Checking in is really easy and all the guides are so much fun. Shout out to BRENDAN (or is it Brandon? Opps haha) he was our guide and we just loved him!!! I swear it's these guys that make the experience what it is! They give you clear instructions for the actual rafting and really encourage you to jump in the water and have a great time. It's safe for younger kids... we had a 10 year old in our raft and he had a freaking blast. This is how much I liked this place: I purchased their splash pass to come back with my friends. This was a last minute trip for my family. They made every aspect of this excursion easy. We found this to be a fun introduction to river rafting for our boys (12 and 9 years old). The staff and rafting guides are all very friendly and gave informed answers. They encourage jumping out of the raft and going swimming at several points during the trip. The water was perfect. Another great thing is that we were able to this trip and return home, in just one day. We from North Orange County by 7:00am, arrived at the location by 9:45am, and were back home by 5:00pm. The river trip itself lasted just under two hours. I highly recommend trying this at least once... Oh, for great burgers near by, try Tony's Firehouse Grill. We ate there, since it's right off the freeway and under ten minutes from River's End and were happy we chose this place. read more

Our first whitewater rafting trip was such a blast! I even bought a waterproof camera so I could capture fun moments in pics. During the bus rides to and from the river, the tour guides tell really silly jokes and are extremely entertaining! :-D We enjoyed rafting down the river with our tour guide Adam and the lively bunch of people who were on our raft. The tide wasn't very high so we hit quite a few bumpy rocks. One of our raftmates was very petite and ending up flying out of the raft and floating down the river a bit, but we eventually got her back into the raft. There's an area where you can get out of the raft and swim/float down the river with ease. It's surprising how shallow the water is throughout most of the route. The view is beautiful and it's fun to see other people in inner tubes and floaties hanging out on the river. Rowing gets easier throughout the tour and you almost feel like a pro by the end of the trip. Get more bang for your buck with the $20 Groupon for the 2-hour adventure rafting tour. Whitewater rafting is definitely an experience that everyone should try at least once! Can't wait to do it again! read more

Went rafting for the first time in June, courtesy of the $17 for two-hours Groupon deal. What to bring: -sunblock -extra change of clothes (they have stalls where you can change afterwards) -water shoes (I wore sneakers, and boy those things got destroyed!) -cheap sunglasses (we ended up stopping at the Target off the fwy to pick some up) The place was pretty easy to find, as long as you follow the instructions on their website. No need to arrive super early for your schedule time. Just show up when they tell you to, or else you'll just be sitting out in the sun with nothing to do.There's plenty of parking once you arrive. Check in. Turn in your form. Once you have on your life jackets, you'll be bused to the river, which is about a 5~10 minute ride. OH! And skip the safety helmet. You wont need it. The river is not that bad =) Not to mention, you'll look silly and end up with helmet hair :P We were all given instructions at the river and were split up and assigned to rafts. Our guide was great! He told jokes along the way. Real friendly. Knew the river well and he definitely knew what he was doing. We swam, play games, paddled hard, drifted down the river, did the slip and slide... They will also have a photographer placed along a section of the river to take your photos for souvenir. So make sure you paddle hard and put on a tough rafting face for the camera! The actual time spent on the river itself was probably 45 minutes, which is pretty good in my opinion. If it went too long, I think it would be too strenuous and leave a bad first impression of white water rafting. I had a fantastic time. This experience was awesome! We went on on Monday which made all of the options cheaper. There were 8 of us and we all chose to do the Master Blaster. It's 2 hours down the river, break for a lunch in the deli and then another 2 hours down the same stretch. All of that on a Monday cost $65 instead of the regular $80. The water was higher than usual and the rapids were a blast. You even get the chance to swim and float down some of the Rapids outside of the boat of you want. The second round through it was just our group so our guide let us stop and swim, hang out and ever use a rope swing off a bank. Let me first start by saying that the owner, Darren, will go above and beyond to make sure you have an incredible time. He has hired staff that will make your experience a great one. I proposed to my girlfriend(now fiance) on this trip and the entire River's End team helped make it possible. My group was lucky enough to have Sarah as a guide. She has been competitively kayaking since she was younger and you can tell she really loves what she does. I went with another couple( in our 20's) and they had a blast as well. We did the Master Blaster(highly recommended). It came with a Deli style lunch which was delicious. We headed back for another 2 hour ride after lunch. This time around we felt more adventurous so we went down the rapids standing instead of sitting. It adds a little more excitement as I almost was tossed out. We will definitely be returning for another day trip and may even try out the Kayak school they offer. It looked like a lot of fun as well. This place is GREAT for families. River's End Rafting was great fun. Every worker was young and fun, telling corny jokes all along the way (I love corny jokes :)! We boarded this old, raggedy looking bus to the entrance of the river. The worker Jesus entertained us for the 10 minute ride. Our raft could hold 6 passengers + our guide. Since we were the last group for the day, I could gather that he was tired from a long, tiring day. However, he did try to entertain us with stories and more corny jokes. He answered all of our questions and also pointed out little landmarks along the way. Most of the river was calm, but we did hit about 5 rapids. Not crazy enough to throw anyone off the raft (which is good for a non-swimmer like me). At one point, we were allowed to jump out the raft and just float down the river with our legs out in front of us. I was a bit scared, but I managed to survive. My mom, brother and I decided to go on our first white water rafting trip for mom's birthday. Omg I had a blast my guide Michael was awesome. This was my first time rafting and I enjoyed it. You check in at a small bungalow they give you a speech on safety and what to expect during your ride and you go off to another safety meeting and you meet your guide. It's a quick bus ride down to the rapids about five minutes tops. When you get to the area your adrenaline starts rushing because now they're teaching you what to do if you get thrown out...stuck in what they call the strainer or are about to crash into a tree ‍‍ You hop in the raft and do some safety strokes being in sync is key. They have three activities during the calmer parts of the river, slip n slide....float along the river and trust I didn't get a pic of the trust game my phone was tired of the water. I think everyone should try it once they make you feel extremely safe no worries. read more

I am usually to lazy to leave Yelp reviews, but felt I need to leave one for River's End Rafting. This trip was a Total Blast!!! The whole staff was great from the time you pulled up to check in, to the bus ride to the river, to the actually rafting, and finally the ride back. Our guide Steven was awesome! His interaction with all of us especially my youngest son (8 yrs old) made this trip amazing! Steven has a great sense of humor, and had fun while doing his job which makes everyone have fun!. Leaving smiles on all of our faces! On the bus trip back, Sal and Steven gave my youngest son a water gun to squirt his brother! and had the bus sing Happy Birthday to him, who's face lit up and he had a smile all the way back. When we got back from the river Sal and Steven continued to interact and play with my son until it was time to go to their next tour! Our family and friends have rafted with RER numerous times and each time is a different experience depending on the amount of water. Each experience has been fun whether it's a more "rapidy" trip or a more relaxing trip where we can get out of the raft and just float down the river. Making a reservation and checking in is a breeze. The guides are fun and they have their cute, family friendly jokes. They are experienced on how to maneuver the rafts with the various types of water flows. They make sure we are safe and understand the rules of the river and the business. We always do the Master Blaster package where we head down the river once, then they take us back to headquarters where lunch is included, then head back down the river again. It makes for a full day of fun and we're all exhausted afterward which leads to a nice, relaxing evening. We will be back to RER with our friends next year for more fun. I always pray for a wet winter (because we need the rain anyway) but also for a more wet and wild rafting trip!! read more

Convinced 5 other people to go with us just to make sure we wouldn't be canceled on. We had a blast!!! Guides totally knew what they were doing, everyone was funny, equipment was in good condition. Check-In was very easy, found the place with no problem, and plenty of parking. We took a five minute bus ride to the start and received a safety briefing. They helped our group practice paddling and the first rapid comes up very quickly. I loved the slip-n-slide portion, that was so much fun. And it was great to have an option to swim in the river for a couple minutes. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that's it's kind of a short trip, the life jackets smell musty, and the pictures were disappointing. For the price ($40) I would expect more photos than the 10 taken at one spot. The raft USB is cute but I'd rather have an option to have them emailed and pay $20-$25. read more

I came with a few friends on the Blaster. Currently, you can get the Blaster for $25 on Mondays. Otherwise, the same trip is $40. The Blaster is advertised as a 2-hour Class II to III trip down the Kern. I'm completely clueless when it comes to river rafting so I have no idea what the difference is between Class II or III and I had little expectation. We arrived and the RER team was already busy getting ready for our trip. They were very friendly (some, maybe a little fake but I'll take it.) we arrived at the put in spot, received a quick safety brief and then hopped in our raft and headed down the river. Our guides were Matteo and Faith who were fun and personable the whole time. Matteo did a great job at showing us all the interesting things of river rafting. We got out and swam once and at one point, all 4 boats stopped to play some games and take a break then we continued down the river. We talked a lot with the others in our raft. We hit a few rapids-- nothing scary but definitely exciting. I know for sure Matteo was a great guide but I'm willing to bet that the other guides are too. I definitely recommend Rivers End Rafting, especially the Blaster! If you're feeling it, you can do other trips too. Also, after your initial trip, you can purchase the app ash back which, if I recall correctly gets you a return trip in any day with no blackout dates for $25. Also, they have a photographer who manages to get a few pretty cool shots of you. You can purchase the pics of if at the end. Overall, I had a great time and I'd do it again. read more

Two families of (4) took the Blaster expedition yesterday and had a stellar time. It was the first time that the (4) kids-ages 11 thru 13-have gone rafting and they loved it. We all fit in a 6-person raft with our 2 smallest kids sitting in the middle of the raft. The Class II-III run was perfect for them. I echo the other reviews here: RER is organized, professional and very friendly. There's a ton of parking and the photos taken of us during the river adventure were actually quite good. I bought all the photos on a raft-shaped flash drive. Overall, I am very happy about the trip. I do have a couple of criticisms that I'm sure that many of you won't care about but I thought I'd put it out there anyway. At the end of the trip, RER provides multiple hoses for rinsing off and (3) changing rooms. I suggest that they re-think the changing rooms to include a raised floor and latches that secure from the inside. I kept dropping my towel and clothes on the wet sandy ground and it diminished my goal of changing into clean dry clothes for the long drive home. Finally, the river run is within the Rio Bravo Ranch property which is a working orchard (citrus, nuts, olives) and has some free-range cattle. We saw the cattle at various points along the river grazing and resting in the shade. Well, the landing point at the end of our trip had recently been populated with cattle as the numerous cow pies made very obvious. No one else seemed to care but I'm crazy sensitive to poo especially when I have to walk across a field of it. It really did taint the trip for me hence 4 stars and not 5 stars. read more

Took my man for his birthday! Something not on his bucket list as it's a bit of a fear for him... when I made contact and read most of the reviews I noted that is was definitely a more mild adventure... something both of us were more into so we jumped in and booked our trip!... We got there early about an hour or so and were a bit disappointed that the deli was closed :( .. they closed at 3pm on that day and we were looking forward to the olive oil tastings.... good thing though that we had already had lunch and had some snacks with us. The check in was easy and we were greeted warmly and we felt appreciated and welcomed..... Got fitted for our vests, took a few snap shots an onto the bus we went! Our fun little 5 minute ride on the bus through the orchards was really neat! Our guide Matt.... I'll say was fun, playful and informative... gave us our safety talk, welcomed our questions and onto the boat we went.. Our raft had 8 of us from different areas but wow... we laughed so much and really enjoyed one another's company! The river was mild, but we were all excited.. a few places of rapid's and we lost two from the boat.. of course retrieved with lots of laughter... I got to swim in one area where the water was calm and the view's of the riverside homes were remarkable. It's supposed to be two hours and I believe it was shorter and I could have enjoyed more time on the water but the time we had was great. We didnt get to do any mud slide as I'd read in other reviews, but Matt did his best to tell us story's, river trivia and history.... if you go, be sure to ask him to tell you about the Mayo Witch! LOL... Go Matt! :) Over all... we had a great day and visit at RER and purchased a splash pass to come back and our photos which We will enjoy forever. Thanks RER! See you next year! I had a blast. thank you groupon for such a wonderful deal and jimmy our amazing guide. He was hilarious!!! We came in a group of 17 so we had to be divided into 3 different rafts. I'm so glad we had Jimmy as our guide. Not only was he hilarious, but he was a veteran and a native to Bakersfield. Doubly Awesome. He really took care of us and kept us from crashing into the trees on the side of the river. I felt very very safe, as did the rest of the people on my raft. A couple of tips: - Wear water shoes if you can. If you fall off the water you won't lose them. Plus, we were able to jump of the rafts and swim downstream for a good mile or two. There are rocks and pebbles on the floor. The water shoes will protect your feet. - You do not need to know how to swim to do this. The life jacket will keep you afloat. - You can wear a hat or sunglasses. I wish I had. Although if you fall off, so might your sunglasses and hat. Bring the cheap pair. - Put on plenty of sunscreen. Its a two or four hour ride out in the sun. It gets really hot. - Bring a water proof camera. There are plenty of picture opportunities. I'm really upset that I didn't think of that. I was afraid I would have lost it, but the rapids are not too bad. - Ladies, wear shorts over your bikini bottom. There's a lot of bouncing and sliding. You really don't want your bottom to move around then OPPS you just flashed your cooch to your guide and fellow raft mates. (I am not speaking from experience. I promise!) - Last tip, Just have fun and don't be nervous. Its really fun! read more

This became a fun day trip for me and a few friends. Is it an intense rafting experience? No. They said the water levels weren't that high, which makes sense since there hasn't been much rain in the past year. So although we encountered a few spots that had rapids we could paddle through, it was mostly calm waters we sometimes could get out of the raft and wade through. The process is pretty painless. Check in and wait for the buses. The buses then take you five minutes away to the water you will be rafting in. Seeing as I didn't really have to raft too much, my attention many times turned to the houses whose backyard we were technically in. Yes, apparently, we were in people's backyards. Interesting thought. Thank goodness the guide we had was entertaining, and even shared some games we could play in the calm water. Good experience, and little kids could probably do it too. Now I'm ready for more challenging rafting. This experience was worth the Groupon deal. read more

An adventure indeed!!!! I got talked into coming here by a friend for MY birthday. Didn't really know what to expect and I was nervous. I can swim but I respect water and mother nature. After driving for over an hour and getting lost twice we finally find the place. Our guide was Leo. I asked Leo what the chances of me falling in the water were and he said that the day before two people on his raft fell in. I asked him to make sure that didn't happen to me. He laughed, of course and assured me we would be ok. What happened next was an adventure INDEED!! My friend and I ended up in a raft with four other people which I feel did not really understand English that well so we were not in sync with the rowing. Everything was great for awhile....me laughing and screaming like a freak, thinking the raft was safe and would never flip over or get stuck. And what happens????? We hit a ROCK and get STUCK. Water is pinning us against the raft which is pinned against the rock..STUCK!!! And when they always say don't panic...What do we or better I do??? I PANIC! Not only because we are stuck but the chick next to me is on my foot and holding on to me for dear life. One by one we let go of the raft and get swallowed by the river. As I became one with the river and start bobbing down as a "California beach chair," I hit rocks and god knows what else AND the water was cold. Shaken we all get into the other rafts and move forward. The rest of the ride was great. Our new guide was Bri and she was great. They do a couple games, make the raft spin and people can also jump out and swim for a bit. Overall I have to say this was a really great experience. One that I can laugh at now. I do have to say I feel bad for panicking and freaking out Leo while he tried his hardest to keep us all calm and to get the raft off the rock. Good job Leo! The staff is amazing. Each one has an awesome personality and do their best to make everyone have an amazing experience. Props to the girl on the bus telling us all the duck jokes while we drove back. FYI....they offer adventure passes that are cheaper so you can come back and do it all over again. (I bought two). read more

Came here for my first white water rafting experience and I had a great time. Our guide, Jesus, was awesome and was not scared to rock the raft. We told him that we wanted to be thrown off the raft and he steered us directly into rapids, next to/under trees, we even got stuck on a boulder and slammed into a bridge. On our second trip down, we got to stop at a rope swing / diving platform where I attempted a front flip and ended up using my face to break the water. I had purchased a Groupon for the "Master Blaster" two run trip. My original trip was over Memorial Day Weekend and unfortunately, I had gotten sick and didn't make it. I recieved a call from Amy, one of the most outstanding young ladies you would ever want to meet! She was truly awesome throughout my whole time from booking the appointment, answering my questions, etc. We moved my rafting trip to Sunday June 2, 2013 and I was not dissapointed! It was about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Canoga Park up to Bakersfield. I was greeted by a gentleman, I don't know his name, but he sure knew mine! He mentioned that Amy couldn't stop talking about me, quite frankly, I feel the same way about her lol! She was aware that I walked with a cane, told me there would be someone to assist, etc. Tony was the rafting guide and he also assisted as well. After completing my waiver, I was given a form for what I wanted for lunch. The menu was great, had some good selections. Although the water level was low, there were still some class 2 rapids. All of the guides were great, knew the river quite well. Everyone really had a blast! Lots of water fights, some time for swimming, etc. I chose to stay in the raft the entire time, my legs can get quite unpredictable. The entire trip was a BLAST! Came here for a groupon deal during September. It's probably better to go earlier in the summer since our guide informed us that the water level was pretty low at the time and was near the end of rafting season during September. This made for pretty docile rapids in the class 3 category. The rapids don't last too long, maybe about 20 min of the 2 hour ride. Our guide was cool and showed us a bunch of games to keep us entertained at the tame parts of the river such as splash attacking another boat or playing a balancing game with the ends of our paddles while standing over the edge of the boat. Definitely jump in to float the river if they give you a chance. A really relaxing experience. Say goodbye to your shoes. They'll be soaking wet for sure. Oh yeah, duck if the guide tells you to duck. Tree branches will creep up on you on some of the more narrow outlets. read more

I love the outdoors and was really excited to try my first rafting trip.. I was truly disappointed. The service here is fantastic, which is why they get this many stars at all, but the trip itself was for a 2-hour excursion which lasted maybe a little over an hour. Apparently, they calculate the bus ride and time it takes the load the rafts back onto the bus into the trip? Our boat contained myself, 3 others, and our guide.. We hardly did any paddling. Mainly the guide would tell us to paddle here and there, but we mainly sat in the boat as she steered, there was a lot of downtime where we just sat around looking at Bakersfield scenery (unimpressive if you've ever been to Bakersfield). The water level is quite high this year which I'm sure affected the conditions but still.. For a so-called level 3, I did not get much of a work out.. read more

This was my second time rafting - my first time was a class 3/4 in Costa Rica. My 2 friends were first-timers, who were afraid to die. I purchased the awesome Groupon deal for this rafting adventure, and it was totally worth it! The staff is very organized, and they have the whole trip planned out! You leave your car at the "warehouse," and then a school bus takes you to the top of the river. Throughout the rafting adventure, there are a couple of small rapids, water fights, river floating and swimming, and other water games planned throughout to make this adventure very SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES AND KIDS. On the longer bus ride back (about 10 minutes) to the warehouse, the trip is complete with the rafting guides telling family appropriate jokes. There were 3 downsides to this experience. I had a hard-as-hell time booking the rafting trip! I called at least 4 times, left messages twice, before I finally got through to a living person to book the trip. I really wish they would call back when I left the messages or had a way for people to book the rafting trip online or via email. The second is that the trip is classified 2/3, which means there are a couple of teeny rapids and the rest is mostly floating along. If you're looking for an adrenaline rush, you'd be disappointed. Thirdly, the safety talk was too fast and difficult to hear when there are 90 people to consider. If this was my first time rafting, I would not feel comforted or confident about what to do exactly following the safety talk. I'd recommend that the safety talk be done on the buses instead. read more
