I visited the shop a week before Christmas wanting two small boxes with an assortment of different chocolates. The associate put together a variety of 4-5 items on the spot and tied it up with a ribbon. Visually appealing and I'm sure the recipient will find delicious too! Really really LOVE this place. My favorite thing to get is the frozen dipped bananas!!!! You can get it dipped in their homemade peanut butter and then chocolate as well if you'd like. I make it a point to stop here when I visit my sister in Woodstock (it's about a 30 minute drive). It's almost tradition at this point and I love this Candy store so much. The chocolate covered strawberries are my favorite. And my husband adores the orange peels. They have superb customer service. I did purchase some berries yesterday and when I went to eat today they were fermented, (had a carbonated felling). This was the first time that has ever happened. The berries were kept in the fridge over night. I called the store to let them know and the lady who helped me was polite and they offered to take care of it for me. This is how you do business! So I've been driving by this place for months picking up and dropping my granddaughters and have wanted to stop forever but no time. Well, the other week I was early and finally stopped in. Very happy I did. I got the fat chocolate raspberry cups, a pound of dark chocolate strawberries, chocolate BACON and for good measure a delicious super rich chocolate ice cream cone. I forget the funny name but it was fabulous. Are it on the rest of the way to pick up the girls. They were very friendly and calling to the back what items they needed more of as they make all the chocolate goodies fresh on site. All was yummy and I waited the longest to eat the chocolate bacon since it lasts the longest (being kinda preserved by being sealed into the chocolate for a week). Anyhow...oh my lord! I could eat a million of the chocolate bacon. Although by the end I had trouble finishing. Lol I will definitely stop in again and again to this wonderful hidden gem!! read more

I love that there's a chocolate factory right down the street from my mom. Even though she's been there for 9 years, I haven't been a super-frequent visitor nor sampled all of their offerings; rather, it's more of a stop to get treats for friends and family. Every Christmas my mom gets me a 1# assortment. It's SO GOOD, yet so sinful. You know when you say you're going to limit yourself to 1 or 2 pieces, and then it's so good that you rationalize with yourself - "Just one more"? And then before you know it you've eaten half the box? Yeahhhh, that's Riverside Chocolates. The chocolate covered + icing decorated Oreo is my absolute favorite and I save it until the very end! The fudge is also really great, and they have so many delectable flavors it's hard to choose which ones to get. We always stop in and get chocolate covered orange peel for great aunt Norma. IMO, they're better than Fannie May. I stopped in the other day and picked up 6 boxes of assorted chocolates as Thank-You/Happy Summer gifts for a friend, my aides, our secretaries, and my boss. They were already beautifully wrapped, which was awesome. (Saves me time, since I'm super OCD when it comes to wrapping things.) Prices are pretty reasonable when you consider it's all fresh and hand-made on site: $20 for 1#, $10 for 1/2#. I spied some chocolate covered bacon when I was checking out. Interesting, but I had to contain myself. I need to stop in and try a chocolate-dipped banana or something this summer as a treat after a bike ride! read more

I'm so disappointed in the Chocolate Factory! Typically they are very good but seems like something has changed. The first thing I noticed is they have less candy that you can put in the little white bags they have and it's more expensive than it was just last summer. Secondly, I was craving a Bear Claw which is what brought me there on this visit. I ordered two and are one right away. I left the second one in the bag for later. My son just went to eat it but he can't. Why, you ask? Its stuck to the bag! The guy just put it in the bag without any wax paper to prevent this very thing from happening. What a fabulous place. It's tiny. I didn't understand the parking as it's awkward. Yet it all worked out. I parked and went in. Very nice people work here. Wish they made their own ice cream or at least made a couple chocolate flavors of ice cream in house. They serve the same as many other places in the area. So, let's get to the chocolate. Yummy! They have a variety of treats. The chocolate covered Ritz cracker with peanut butter and the bacon caramel chocolate covered treat was the best. Thanks for having this place and staying open late. How-freaking-'bout-it!!!!! Sorry, when it comes to places that deal in fresh chocolates and nostalgic candy, I sorta lose it. While I'd be the first one to point out that even at their best, chocolate-dipped strawberries are a tired, unappetizing cliche and, IMO, a waste of perfectly good chocolate -- everything else they do here is freaking wicked. From chocolate-dipped waffle cones (please make more of the white chocolate type for my partner!) ready to hold their excellent quality hand-dipped ice cream, to caramel turtles and dipped pretzels and toffees -- man! This is chocoholic ground-zero. Nobody knows the truffles I've seen... I really do kinda go nuts around this place. My cool "field biologist/lumberjack HMFIC" thing just goes right out the window. I'm suddenly ten years old and I want one of EVERYTHING!!!! I guess that's how a really good candy shop is supposed to make you feel. I was hoping gnomes lived in this little hut. But it's okay because instead there is CHOCOLATE! Obviously, strawberries covered in chocolate are the big thing here. The other items are awesome as well. They carry a bunch of different candy that can be difficult to find. The price point for some of the items is a bit high, and they were not able to clearly tell me about which items contained gluten. Overall, you will love it! read more

So, I have always liked Riverside Chocolate factory, we have been coming for years. Today I stopped in for the first time since covid started. There was a sign requiring masks, so all good. Then I went inside. Out of 7 customers, exactly 2 were masked, and one of those was me. Also one of the staff members was not masked. I told them I had changed my mind because they were not following the Illinois guidelines. As long as covid is a threat, and they are this lax, I will not return. Extremely disappointed in them. I gave one star because I had to, but if I could I would have left zero. read more

I have purchase 'many' boxes of candy each year for the last 10-15 years as gifts for business relations as well as family and friends. I am shocked and totally dissappointed. Today I opened a box of spare candy and realized it had changed from previous years. The cute little Christmas hand decorated candies had been replaced by very generic looking candy. My favorite piece...the big carmel - not in the box. What the heck! These boxes of candies has always been a unique gift -...we could of gotten this years candy selection from any candy store. So, I was in the area randomly this morning and had some time to kill - lucky me, they were open at 9:00 a.m. and I was the only person in the place. I wound up with a wonderful assortment of stuff - chocolate covered oreos on special for only $.75 each, a nice box of pecan caramel turtles and another pound of assorted creams - only $36. See's would be twice that - and forget about Long Grove Confectionary! Amazing customer service! They might be kids behind the counter but they are the nicest most friendly kids. We showed up 5 minutes before close the other night I know not nice ado have worked at store like these when all you want to do it out the close sign up at 5 minutes left.
