The water was very choppy and the captain had to constantly move us back to our spot to get on the fish. The crew was patient and cool people to fish with. Docked on Staten Island he immediately fishes the waters near and far, depending upon where they are migrating. He practices catch and release, but will help you harvest for the grill. I have never sought out another boat because of the following: - They have a cool and helpful staff. - If nothing is biting, they ALWAYS tell us to stop and drive out deeper to find a better location. - I literally always have to STOP fishing because I catch too many Blues (don't have the freezer room). The first time I fished with them I caught 9 big blues. I always catch a bunch and then chill the rest of the trip and talk to friends who are pooped. On one trip, my son was about 9 at the time - he caught 3 or 4 by himself and the staff of course pulled the fish in for him. -They clean the fish for you which saves me so much trouble. I don't want to call anyone a liar but I will say, after what, 7 years of fishing with Brooklyn VI, I've NEVER seen the shore when we start fishing, never! For $100, they'll bring you out from 6:30am-2:30pm, provide the pole, hook, jig, and explain everything you need to know. In the middle of June you're looking for Bluefish, porgy, striped bass, and fluke. We went on a new moon, and apparently on new moons and full moons, the gravity shift changes the current and makes fishing more difficult. Long story short, we didn't catch a lot, but we had a great experience. They also gave us extra fish to bring home which was really nice. I love being outdoors but unfortunately most of my friends don't and I never thought of going out on my own with a bunch of strangers until I came across a Groupon for DBA. I finally took the plunge and signed up and it was the best thing I ever did. Since March, I have gone on 4 more hikes and each one of them has been totally amazing experience. All the credit goes to Dave and his crew- they are excellent and the hikes are well planned. You don't have to worry about much because they do most of the work for you. Dave is an awesome guide and highly experienced. He is also extremely knowledgeable and his adventure stories keep us all entertained and laughing throughout the hikes. He is very passionate about what he does- it's just not a business for him and it clearly shows. This is something that I feel makes DBA unique and stand out amongst other similar companies. I attempted a tough hike and just when I thought I could not go any further, Dave and his crew continued to encourage me and it was a great feeling when I finally made it to the top and saw the amazing view. Along the way, I have also met some great people and feel like now I am a part of a community of lovely people that enjoy being outdoors. I'm no longer apprehensive of going on hikes, sans "friends", because Dave makes you feel like you are hiking with a good friend.
