I'm so surprised this place got so many good reviews. We came here and there were so many people waiting that I almost didn't put my name in but figured if so many people go there it was worth the wait. The best part of our meal was the mozzarella sticks that we got for the kids. The calamari was so small and over cooked, by far the worst fried calamari I've ever had. Hush puppies were ok- but we were starving. Then our meals came. There are 6 men/boys in my party and usually all of their plates are empty in 5 minutes. They each ate about half of their meals, which were not very big anyway. As for my meal, I paid $17 for fried shrimp, fries and coleslaw. And while not the worst I've had, I've had much better. Everything was served in elementary school cafeteria like plates with the 3 sections. I have to say they did a good job waiting the tables and getting people in and out. read more

Best fried food I've had in a long time. My favorite was the bang bang shrimp! Perfect spice and a little bit of a crunch.

Last night in NorthTopsail Island area: finished with a find! This is a seafood place: that's for sure! No frills. Nothing fancy. Hard to find, but worth the ride! Our party of 3 had oysters & fish & loved our meal. Wished I had room for their incredible looking desserts I spied on the way out. $129 for three was a great deal & the wait help was attentive & everything arrived on time. I just came back from my long weekend vacay in Topsail Island and had to write a review about this place because I enjoyed the service and food. I had previously read another review that gave a negative account of their experience as a Black person but I, as a Black woman, had a wonderful experience at this cafe so I wanted to provide my own review for parity. I had no issues with the service and was treated with respect just like everyone else. Really, race was a non-factor and the last thing on my mind. Good food, however, was on everyone's mind. I enjoyed my fried flounder platter with coleslaw and fried squash (which was actually green so that is zucchini so I was a bit confused but oh well, it was fine). The fish tasted fresh and was lightly fried to my liking. I doused it in Texas Pete - delish. Finished it off with the coconut cream pie which was as creamy as it's name implies but a little sweet for my taste. I've been watching my sugar intake so perhaps I'm just very sensitive to it now. Others may love it. So yeah, I would come back again and again for another flounder platter, but this time I'm definitely trying the chocolate meringue pie. Saw it in the menu and have been thinking about it since. read more

We realized when visiting this restaurant, it would be the typical fried seafood and family atmosphere. I got the whole fried flounder which was nice and crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. Very moist and tender. I'm very familiar with eating fish off the bone, so I loved it. It was so big I brought half of it home. Husband had fried tilapia and fried shrimp, lightly breaded and he enjoyed it. The sides are average, nothing to gush over. We were brought a basket of hush puppies that were delicious, but we're given some kind of butter spread, not a fan! As an appetizer, I got the cream of crab soup, the base tasted wonderful, but nothing more than specks of crab in it, extremely disappointed. Skip it! I consider them to be a great place for families with children, affordable and a wonderful wait staff. Not sure if I will return next year, but was worth the visit. read more

I've tried this twice since they reopened following COVID closure. Both times they were very busy but everyone there is both friendly and helpful. I had the whole flounder the first time and the seafood combo the second time. Both were excellent. Service was great both times. Ice tea very good and good choices of beers. My family and I were visiting from out of town and decided to give this place a try! I'm so glad we did because it was absolutely delicious! When we all got there (party of 7) it was really crowded and figured we'd have to wait. To our surprise we were seated immediate. The ambiance of this place is super casual and laid back. It is quaint and looks over a river. The view is very beautiful. Even better than the view and wait time was the food! I ordered shrimp, deviled crab, and fried squash. And O. M. G. It was divine! Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious! The rest of my family felt equally impressed. We will definitely be back when we visit Topsail Island again! read more

Come here for a dinner because it is close to the house i am visiting. Sounded good on reviews. Service was ok. Cerver friendly. Menu-tricky. Lunch items was not available for dinner which is understandable. Ordered flounder sandwich , my friend -bang bang shrimp. My "sandwich"come in a plastic basket on the paper,there was 1 piece of curled ot fryed fish on a top of the bun and nothing else. All other stuff s.a. cheese, pickles etc.. you have to order and pay extra. That's the trick. Shrimp was ok. Not gonna hurry back. Promise. read more

Great Calabash style Seafood restaurant. Perfect for families and small groups. Friendly, helpful staff. Their homemade, fresh ingredients were very obvious in everything we ate. The hush puppies were delicious. The coating on the fried foods was superb; not too thick, not too crunchy, complimented the fish instead of just covering it up. I wish we could have had the homemade pie. It looked amazing, but we couldn't have eaten another bite. This is definitely a destination restaurant. Off the beaten path, but worth the extra drive. I would recommend going during the week, I imagine the weekends get pretty busy. This isn't a fancy, tablecloth & candlelight place. Just visited this hidden gem in coastal North Carolina. I have been here numerous times and every time not disappointed. Although portions have gotten smaller and prices getting higher still an amazing BANG for the BUCK. Not a big eater and compared to New Jersey prices , it is a BARGAIN for the freshest fish you can find. That said I have never in my life encountered such rude customers. Sitting close to our table was a family with 2 young children. One Child started to wail quite loudly. Where I come from a crying child in a restaurant is a no no. Many customers would frown upon that type of behavior. Since the parents of this young child chose to do nothing about his crying, I attempted to distract this toddler , making animal sounds and eventually the child chuckled at my antics. His father rudely asked me to stop coughing on his young son. I was not coughing and did not appear ill in any way. How could a parent be so rude to a kind adult just trying to help keep there little one happy. I am a grandparent of three grandkids under age 5 . I would be so appreciative of someone helping me when I am out to dinner. Southerners think us Jersey people are rude??? Think again. Very Good! We go here all the time and is really great, just a couple of suggestions? Some kind of toast points or bread for the crab dip? we used the hushpuppies instead of the saltine crackers, but maybe something different? , it is decadent deliciousness, just didn't have anything to dip in it. All the fried seafood is really great, but maybe put a little attention into the side salad? just a bit. I know people don't go here for the salad, but just a little effort, people like to pretend they are negating the fried seafood with salad:). A couple of months ago, the coleslaw magically got delicious, keep it up. sometimes during lunch, the waitress will come around with sample desserts, brilliant. Ordered shrimp & crab dip. The crab dip came with crackers in small 2 per pack. Usually dip is served served with bread on the side, not crackers in plastic wrap. The dip was very brown on the top and did not have much taste. The peel and eat shrimp did not have any taste and the butter was bright yellow? I do not think it was butter. My parents moved to this area about four months ago and thank goodness we found this place the first week! We insist on eating here every time we visit and they frequently eat here when there are no visitors at their house. The seafood is amazing! The portions are generous. The fried choices are lightly fried and flavorful and not the hard little fried nuggets you get elsewhere. Peel and eat shrimp are so fresh and seasoned just right. The fried squash is to die for. The deviled crab are homemade and full of crab not just breading. As you can tell we've had most of what's on the menu! We always want pie at the end of the meal but never have room. We eventually just purchased one to take home to enjoy later. It was delicious of course. Service is great and servers are very friendly! read more

Excellent service and atmosphere for the family. We had the coconut shrimp which were delicious. Husband got the blackened tilapia, fries and beans. I got the teriyaki chicken, fries and cole slaw. Son got chicken tenders and fries. All were good and more than enough. The complimentary hush puppies were yummy! Nice view of boats and a perfect spot if you are too early to check in and need to kill some time. Bathrooms are clean too. We will be back for sure. read more

For starters, the name of the restaurant is deceiving. There is no view from the restaurant. The food was below par, and soaked in grease. Even the hush puppies were soggy... How do you mess up hush puppies? Waitress was neither nice nor rude, and was certainly not in any hurry. Slow service, greasy and soggy food and zero atmosphere. Tip: Go to the freezer section of Wal-Mart and pick up some fish there. Eat it in the parking lot. Better food and better... um... view? Okay, that might be stretching it a little bit. read more

This place really wasn't anything special. I got crab soup which was fine and catfish sandwich with fries. The sandwich was lackluster since it was just a piece of fried fish on a cheap bun. I had to smother it in tartar sauce for any flavor. The fries were the crinkle cut and seemed like they were just made from a frozen oreida bag. My mom got a soft shell crab sandwich which looked so small it barely covered half of the cheap bun. I would expect this quality from a shack that just bangs out food during a festival or something. Riverview is the best casual seafood joint ever, in my opinion! It is situated in a building circa 1950 on the sound near Camp Lejune in a little town called Sneads Ferry, NC, which is nothing more than a fishing village. It is also a hop, skip, and a jump from Topsail Island. They have the best whole flounder I've ever had, which is flounder fried up golden brown with the center bone still in, which helps to keep the white meat moist and tender. It is about 3/4 to one inch thick and about 12 inches long. Last visit, my buddy and I both had the whole flounder (his first, but not last), salads, oyster stew and big, locally caught steamed shrimp (prawns for you all from out west). The shrimp were firm and as sweet as can be. For those that only eat shrimp from a frozen bag from Argentina or Chile, you don't know what you are missing with NC caught wild shrimp. The waitresses are super nice, local folks, who really appreciate a nice tip. read more

Not sure what happened, it was great back this summer when I came to visit my marine son, today it sucked, waitress did not care about us. I ordered calamari, it was soggy and greasy, all she said was, " I'm sorry" she did ask if I wanted something else in a un respectful tone. My son ordered a Rueben, it was very greasy and small. My other son had a BBQ sandwich, there was hardly any BBQ and a whole lot of slaw on real big bread. Slaw was good, not sure about BBQ, not enough on bread to taste. I will not go back. It's a shame, like I said, it was great last summer. They need caring servers and cooks. read more

If you are looking for coastal NC seafood near Jacksonville, it doesn't get better than this. I have coming here since I was a kid. When Hurricane Florence came through I didn't think they would reopen, but when they did it was even better than ever. I love that they have expanded the menu with more modern options but have kept the calabash style fried seafood. My wife and I love the Bang Bang shrimp, the Mahi is great and the fried okra are just like my grandmother made. Be sure to check the white board before ordering! Great beer options too! read more
