We arrived at the Riverview Cafe on a Thursday evening about 7:30. We were seated in the back dining room overlooking the mouth of the New River. We ordered a seafood platter to share: fried shrimp, scallops, oysters, softshell crab, and flounder. The platter arrived minus oysters. They were out of them. Everything was very good, except the fish filet was definitely not flounder - maybe perch or mullet - but not flounder. The wait staff was friendly. We'll go to Riverview again the next time we visit Topsail Island. read more

The fried shrimp was my favorite over the fried scallops and oysters. Probably the best fried shrimp I've ever had--not over cooked and I could taste the great flavor of the shrimp. We've been to the Riverview a few times and it was underwhelming at best today. The host was borderline unpleasant, although our waitress was very eager to please and did a great job. The catfish was the best of the dishes our party of five ordered, but the grouper was overcooked, the fried shrimp were greasy, the hush puppies didn't seem freshly prepared and the crinkle cut French fries, which clearly came from a bag, were still cold in the center. Other than the catfish, the cole slaw was the best item on the table. Might come back for lunch sometime if I'm craving catfish, but I'll probably go somewhere else for dinner or if we want to take guests out for a nice dinner. read more

Excellent little find off the beaten path. Went for lunch. Great lunch specials with dinner portions and lunch prices. And dessert was even included. First of all we are from Morehead City, NC area and have eaten at a lot of seafood restaurants. The drive to Snead's Ferry is almost an hour for us and well worth it. By far the best southern fried seafood around. The last trip we had fried shrimp, oysters and scallops, which were excellent. The waitress was polite, friendly and served us promptly. Umm, do be fooled by the outside. It's dirty, the service is mediocre, my soda was watered down and flat, and the food is ok but waaaaay overpriced. I don't get the positive reviews unless your idea of great seafood is a chain restaurant like Red Lobster. My husband got the crab legs which came in a pot and didn't include sides. He added onion rings but got fried okra which was soggy and tasted as if it was heated up in the microwave. I got the salmon with lump crab meat and a baked potato. The salmon was fresh but nothing amazing and the crab meat looked questionable. Somehow our bill was $65. Oh, and when my husband used the bathroom he saw an employee come out of a stall after using the toilet and didn't bother to wash his hands...*vomit* Maybe I'm too snobby about where I eat but if you like places like Old Country Buffet, Denny's, etc this is your place. read more

The food was ok, but the prices were ridiculous. We asked for kids size meals and were charged regular adult size prices. Dinner for 2 adults and 3 kids ended up costing us 137.00 dollars including taxes and tip. We would have eaten cat fish and shrimp for half that at Cracker Barrel and eaten on real plates not plastic cafeteria dishes on a funky looking dingy joint. Ask twice to make sure what you're getting if you are crazy enough to eat there! We will NEVER go to that place again! EVER! read more

Just went twice this week. We ordered Clam Strips, Shrimp, Fried Oysters, fried mushrooms, fried okra, chicken tenders and fried pickles. Everything was delicious and most of the meals could be split between two people. The staff is absolutely wonderful and the owner is super friendly! Went here twice. They refused to blacken scallops, even though they served blackened fish. We had a reso, but they didn't have the table ready. They asked our party of 8 to split up, but there were only two other groups in the restaurant. Servers then argued in front of us about who was taking the table, neither wanted to. Fabulous fried seafood. Grilled salmon & shrimp were perfection. The best part though is the home made pies. During the season they run out of the chocolate pie by Sunday evening but there is more by Monday evening. :-( You can not go wrong having a meal here. This weekend we had take-out twice! It is a little out of the way if you are staying at the beach but well worth the trip. We were staying on north Top Sail beach about a 20 minute drive but like I said we have no regrets. The service was great and the food was even better. I had grilled pork chops that were juicy and flavorful. My wife had broiled scallops that were very good as well. We went here after it was suggested to us. We got fried flounder and salad. The flounder tasted bad and the French fries were freezer burnt. The salad was just bagged iceberg salad from the store. They did have complimentary hush puppies that were pretty good. read more
