I walked in and wasn't even greeted, mind you, there was NO ONE else in the establishment. The bartender eventually comes to me and says "what do you want?" I politely asked can I have a menu? She rolled her eyes and tosses one on the table, not even hands it to me! The place smelled intensely of marijuana. I order the BLT pizza with some mozzarella sticks. After waiting close to 55 minutes, mozzarella sticks come out and they're way too over done. The cheese is oozing out of them. When I bit into the first one, there's literally nothing but breading. I get my pizza and it's burnt. Like there's no way anyone would eat this pizza it's so burnt. I let the bartender know and she just said "that's how it's supposed to be." I was fed up at this point and after eating only one mozzarella stick and one bite of inedible awful pizza, I paid and left. We go here regularly and I highly recommend the "Riv". My whole family LOVED the new bar height tables in the newly renovated dining room. I always get the steak tip salad. The tips are always cooked perfectly. My husband got the fisherman's platter. It was Huge! Fresh Haddock, Shrimp, Scallops and fries. Our son always gets a BLT, he loves it. This is one of my least favorite places to go in Bridgewater, while they have tons of beers to pick from on draft you have to decide what you'd rather have a large selection or drafts or good service. I have never had a good experience going here, the staff is a bunch of miserable individuals who should consider finding a job that doesn't involve people. I understand the job can be quite taxing at times but it's not an excuse. Tonight we went there to celebrate a friends birthday, we were there for about 3 hours and my boyfriend ordered 2 beers for himself, when he went to order his last of the night and cash it he waited for 15 minutes. After making a comment to his friend about what was taking so long the bartender Tim rudely asks if he had something to say and informed him that he was tending bar and cooking pizza. While he did tell him that's not my problem it's managements. Tim replied with don't run your mouth it's harder than it looks. Yes it is very hard to tend to 9 people I understand. He finally gave him the bill to cash out, my boyfriend stated he wanted one last beer. He signs his slip and asks for his last beer where Tim tells him no, he's cut off and to leave. My problem with this is your staff should never behave this way. If your business is under staffed then management should be coming to work and picking up the slack. I come from a small business background and I'm very well aware that 1 bad review needs 12 good reviews to out weigh the damage. How does a manager condone this behavior. I would strongly suggest the manager of this establishment consider nicer, less miserable and willing to work staff. You are near a college utilize students looking for a weekend job not old crabby adults who hate their job. I can't say enough good about the staff at Riviera. We went as a family with 2 young kids, we went early so as not to be there during the busier times. Our waiter/ bartender was amazing!! He was great with our kids, setting then up with everything they needed, even sitting down to color with them! He took great care of them and of us. When the kids started to meltdown and fall apart he came right out and asked how he could help. He promptly got our bill and told me not to worry about the mess and proceeded to clean up our table, organizing our things while we said goodbye to some people we knew. Anyone who heads ever been out to a restaurant knows that this kind of service is invaluable. The entire staff we came in contact with was welcoming, warm and friendly. It made for a much better dining experience. Besides the staff, there was a really sweet man, who was clearly a regular, who engaged in conversation with us and my children and drew them pictures. He didn't mind when our little ones needed to walk and wandered over to him. Again, it's little things that make the experience so pleasant. Do not go here! The service was absolutely terrible. The waiter/waitresses were very rude and barely paid any attention to us, had to wait so long just to get the bill. The chicken made my boyfriend sick and they refused to take it off the bill saying he "ate more than half of it" when he clearly didn't. Absolutely horrifible experience. I was searching for another restaurant, and not being from Mass. I ran across a full parking lot. So nothing ventured nothing gained. Most people were in the Bar half watching the football game (playoffs) The bar tender knows his beer, and I had a fanatic local IPA, I then went for the special of a Haddock Ruben (at $6.00 I figured if it was bad, nothing really lost), it turned out to be fantastic. Cheese pizza is too greasy to eat, staff is always miserable and rude, they have forgotten about my food multiple times and I literally had to ask for it.. TWICE.. before it came out and by this time my friends were finished eating their food. Expect to have to ask for your check, also. Not sure why the staff gets paid to be honest. I also usually order water to drink when it's not a beer (not a soda fan) and one time they brought me a BOTTLE of water just so they could charge me $2.50 for it instead of a glass being free. Bar staff is 3rd rate, hard to get waited on even though there was 3 on and about 8 people at the bar. Almost as bad as the Villa in Easton, but at least there they forget to charge you for half the drinks so you don't mind the bad service. Unlike the Villa, the pizza sucked. Greasy, gloppy and looked like roadkill. Too messy to even pick up. The app sampler was ok and when the bartenders do wait on you they are polite and friendly, just not really into anything resembling hustle...seems like its more of a hobby than a job. read more

Great beer selection! Around 40 draught beers with the domestic staples and quite a few craft beers from MA and New England. Came in on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised they offered 1/2 price apps. The Buffalo Quesadilla and Chili Potato Skins were both tasty. My friend had a burger which they really enjoyed. Bartender was friendly and I had a good time sipping on some brews and nibbling on some apps. Just went to celebrate a friends birthday, not being 21 my boyfriend and I just wanted to order some food and hang out. We waited about 15 minutes before receiving a menu, not once did we express any interest in having any alcohol, yet the first thing our server said to us was when the kitchen closes we needed to be out because of age. When we responding saying sure, the server proceeded so let us know that the kitchen was closing in less than 20 minutes. The food was fine, average. But the service ruined he experience. Although I can't speak for all the staff I have to say our server was very rude and we will not be returning. I love coming here and getting the 2.99 pizza, but last time I came the service was not good. On the website they stated that they make pizza until midnight, however when I wanted to order one at 10pm it seemed like the servers were nonstop giving attitude about making a pizza to everyone else at the bar, and I could hear everything. It make me uncomfortable and not welcome. As I was eating my pizza it was clear that everyone else at the bar was being treated better and was given better service. Do not pass this place up due to the bad reviews. We went here for lunch mid week to get something quick. We recently moved to the area and hadn't been to Riviera Cafe until today. To be honest, we were a little turned off before coming due to the bad reviews people had left. DO NOT LET THAT HAPPEN TO YOU!! The service was great, friendly and attentive, and the food we got was well above average. We started with a small tossed salad and honey habanero wings. The salad was what you'd expect, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and peppers, but the wings were excellent. They are grilled first and then fried and the sauce was flavorful and coated the crispy wings well. I would go back just for the wings! Side note: there is a good selection of beers on tap, a mixture of your run of the mill domestics and great craft beers. I had a pint of Maine Beer - Lunch. Tasted fresh and was ice cold. For lunch I got the rodeo burger and fries (onion rings, cheese and bbq sauce) and my wife got the honey mustard chicken sandwich with bacon. The burger was cooked medium as I asked and was so juicy. The chicken was so crispy and also very juicy. We were so pleasantly surprised, given the bad reviews. The owner, George, came over to greet us and asked how we were doing. He was super friendly and appeared to really care. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS AND PASS THIS PLACE UP! Now after going here for lunch and then reading the bad reviews again, I realized that people are complaining about the dumbest things. So, my girlfriend and I attempted to eat here after spotting it driving by. It was a Friday, late afternoon. The inside had some light traffic at the bar, which we passed walking in. My girlfriend sat down while I used the restroom. I then joined her. There was one party in the dining area, and a decent number of people on the patio area. We chatted a bit, waiting. No one appeared. No one had said anything to us, so I began to wonder if we came in through the exit or something - I walked out to the other side of the place to where the patio was, and saw no other entrance, so returned to our table. I mean I guess it was our table. There was no hostess, nor any sign indicating whether or not you should seat yourself, so who knows? The kid behind the bar and a waitress (one of two that appeared to be working) had seen us, but no one had come to the table or said a word - or even really acknowledged us non-verbally. At this point, my girlfriend was browsing the menu on her phone - she'd looked it up herself, since there were none at the tables. We waited a few more minutes. When the waitresses casually strolled in, chatted briefly, and continued to ignore us, we decided to leave. Of course, no one spoke to us on the way out, either. Just to drill this home, the place was NOT busy. This was pre-dinner rush - maybe 4:00, 4:30. This wasn't a case of a delay due to overworked staff, which happens and is understandable. The staff obviously did not care to deal with us for whatever reason, which I don't care to speculate on. Consequently, I have no idea how the food is, but if the kitchen is a match for the rest of the staff, look out - they couldn't care less about you. Stopped in today for a drink and respite from the heat. Got one out of 2. The temperature inside wasn't much cooler than outside, and this is not an isolated incident. Last year the owner refused to turn the a/c on after Labor Day, instead opening the windows, causing patrons to have to swat flies while sitting at the bar. Obviously, squeezing every last nickel out of the place comes way before customer satisfaction. The food is mediocre at best, and for some reason draft beer is no cheaper than bottled. The only thing to recommend the Riv is the staff. The bartenders are all very personable and the atmosphere is great. If the owner had even an ounce of respect for his customers, it could be a great place. read more

So went to Riv last evening. Walked there from our apartment. Was planning on having a couple beers and a pizza for dinner. It was around 5 pm. 3 other people at bar. Was happy to see a great bartender, Lil Deb, behind the bar. We know her from another establishment. We got our beers and ordered pizza. Decided to play juke box. First song, mellow Don Henley. Asked Lil Deb to turn it up a bit, she doesnt know how, since she just started. So she asked the so called Manager Dave, who proceeds to say it was loud enough. Sorry couldnt even hear it. My boyfriend and i said, Cmon cant you turn it up, and he says ok, goes over and pretends to. Now we are not stupid, so i say something and he says, this is not the old Riv, yeah we know that. Service here is awful. They just dont care. We were going to stay and play trivia too. Its convenient to have a place to walk to, but will never go back now. We have given them our business even after the few time before we werent happy. So done with this place. Dave is such a snob and thinks his shit dont stink. Guess we will visit Lil Deb at the other place she works, at least that place lets you play the jukebox and have fun. read more

i really like this place. there are no frills here and the exterior is pretty average. inside it looks kind of like your typical sports bar. it is plenty spacious and you can sit at a table or the bar. what sets this local bar apart for me is that the pizza is REALLY GOOD and REALLY CHEAP. like 5 bucks or something. they have pretty good drink specials as well. don't expect a huge selection of specialty beers - they are more on the domestic beer end of the spectrum, but they carry some of the more decent "standards" (think blue moon and woodchuck). also, they get props for having free wi-fi. i love that i can be in there working on a powerpoint with classmates, while locals are chatting away at the bar, and blue collar dudes are playing pool - everyone is friendly and welcoming and it just seems like a decent neighborhood bar where all are welcome. read more

After considering my prior loyalty to this establishment and my last experiences there, I felt a review was in order. My friends and I used to frequent The Riv often for years. It is a small bar/restaurant that caters to locals and college students with halfway decent pub food, an average draft list, pool table, outdoor deck and live music on the weekends. With great staff, decently priced drinks and a friendly atmosphere, it was our "go to" place. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Things started to change when previous managers and staff left. When replacements were brought in customer service and product quality suffered drastically. I suspect draft lines were not being maintained properly as a number of beers started tasting "off" and tasted very similar when in fact they were different types of beer. Run some BLC through those lines every once in a while! Or tell your distributor if you don't know how to because I'm sure they don't appreciate their product being compromised. Pints started to be poured in plastic cups rather than glass and when questioned, the bartender suggested if I wanted a glass I should go in the back and clean one myself. Hmm, yeah, nice customer service. That certain bartender always acts like a miserable prick. How would you feel if you went to a restaurant and your food was served on a paper plate with plastic forks and knives? Shots are no longer poured in a normal sized shot glass and were poured into 1oz plastic medicine cups. So the prices went up and the serving sizes were decreased. We questioned the bartender and he replied, with an attitude, that it's the proper way to pour a shot per MA state law and never did they serve anything larger than that so we were wrong. This is the type of attitude and service that has started to encompass the bar. If you were to go to The Riv these days it would have to be for the live bands. Every once in a while a band like John the Conqueror will play there and there's never a cover charge. Just don't expect to receive decent service unless you're already friends with the bartender or a hot blonde wearing a tight, revealing T-shirt. read more

Clean, outdoor area is great, all the food I've tried has been better than expected, and it's cheap with daily specials. This was a dive when I was in college, but they're trying to change their image. I went here recently with some friends to take advantage of their pizzas for a buck. This place is a little dive bar. There weren't a lot of people in there when we went, except for a couple of young guys drinking at the bar, and a couple of other guys playing pool outside on their patio. When we first walked in, I noticed a peculiar smell to the place, sort of like bleach with something else that I couldn't put my finger on. I know that people say that's a sign that they keep the place clean, but I've also noticed that that smell seems to be more prevalent in run down types of places. Go into any nice restaurant, and it won't smell like bleach, but they still keep the restaurant clean. Just based on how the place looked and smelled, I decided not to order any food for myself, and I just sat with my friends while they ate. The service was good, as the waitress was friendly and attentive, so I'm giving this establishment two stars instead of one, but I wouldn't go back. read more

Me and my husband decided to try this place if I could give them a minus score I should. I ordered chichen wings with Salad n my husband ordered the meatballs sandwiche and the food wasn't that good the chichen was dry and chewy, the meat tasted like it came out of microwave. The food I can over look but the Worce of all was the serve, our waitress left us hanging and someone else had to come and get our order.we hardly got any attention through out the meal. Best thing about this place is the Blues Jam on Saturday afternoons from 4-8. Lots of drop in musicians show up and they mix and match them every half hour or so. Great stuff! Beer selection is good - lots of local offerings on draft (my preference). If three stars was "OK" I would give them 3 but because it says "A-OK" that is not what I would describe it as. Food is always lousy. I have tried so many things and none are terrible but none are really good. There should be something I can brag about food wise by now but I have yet to find it! And lastly, put wait staff on - not poor people who have to do double duty as bartender and waitstaff. The place is always packed on Blues days and they could make a lot more money if it wasn't so hard to get a wait person's attention. The "Riv" as most people call it is a nice place to grab a bite and beer from one of the vast beers on tap. Whoever is responsible for their craft beer list knows their beers. The food is solid pub grub and the ambience is nice and relaxed. The bartenders we have had are always attentive, whether it's Keno or grabbing another beer. They will also change the tv to any game you might want to watch as long as there isn't one of the local games on. Plenty of parking and also an outside area in the back which we have yet to sit. read more
