Wow! This is so *cool - a legitimate ice-cream shop & so close to home!…read more We were greeted not only by an amazing aroma - but also by Sasha who helped us at the counter. They feature several different varieties of waffle cones, sugar cones and cups for ice cream. The cases were loaded with a wonderful selection of Umpqua Ice Cream, and they offer many toppings!

The store features regional ice creams brands: Umpqua, Cascade Glacier, and Tillamook. They had 16 flavors including Old World Spumoni, Cranberry Cheesecake, Kona Coffee, Marionberry Pie, Maple Nut, and Huckleberry Heaven. I ordered a Kid's Cone of Old World Spumoni because it is a flavor that is hard to find. In fact, it had been decades since I last had it. The ice cream cone size was generous. This was my first time trying Umpqua Ice Cream. It was pretty good. The customer service from Michael was excellent! The store interior consists of two rooms and a window facing counter. There's also a bistro table outside. The tables and chairs were made by the owners. Whether you live nearby or are looking to take a break from highway driving, this is a nice stop. The ice cream is good, but not great. I wish they were selling Snoqualmie Ice Cream or Acme, both of which are made in Washington and are far superior to all three of the Oregon branded ice creams Kalama Cone sells. If I had an ice cream business, I would stay away from selling ice cream brands that can be found in most grocery stores. I say that as someone who drove an ice cream truck one summer. The items that sold best were those that weren't readily available elsewhere and cheaper to buy directly. I have pictures of the ice cream in the case, but I wasn't able to get a picture of my cone because I was traveling alone, my hands were full, and I didn't have a way to take a photo without risking dropping the ice cream. When we came around 3pm, it wasn't busy, so we got to try some of the flavors right away. They had about fifteen different flavors, including few limited edition ones. We tried about six different ones before deciding the ones we wanted. The staff member was super friendly, politely handing us the sampling spoons with the requested flavors. The store offered single, double, split and kids scoops. They had waffle cone and bowls available as well. We picked the double vanilla and my favorite sea salt caramel ribbons. The kid's scoop costed $5.25 each and additional toppings were 75 cents each. I loved both the scoops. The taste was as good as other locations we had tried. The ice cream was dense and creamy. We enjoyed our time at the store, sitting by the benches they had by the large open windows.

I'm sure wintertime they shut it tight. Bathroom inside (need a code). The staff were very patient and friendly. You can ask as many samples as you want. Even if there's a line, it usually move fast. Creamy, strong flavor, good quality ice cream. The menu has interesting options. Even though we have been to many locations, we still haven't tried them all. There are tubs and merchandises on display if you like a souvenir.

Parking is distinctly challenging. I'm really lucky if I can park within a block of the entrance. The line also seems to move very slowly most of the time. I usually give myself an extra buffer of time for this location, which also includes the typical time that I would spend in a line for this type of popular product. It has to be a special occasion for me to invest that much effort to indulge in quality ice cream. I do like that you can have unlimited samples and the staff is usually pretty friendly. I like that the flavors rotate seasonally and the bathroom is usually clean. Unfortunately, there's not much seating inside and there's also minimal options for sitting outside. This place is built well for people who will happen to be walking by on the sidewalk and feel like a scoop of ice cream while having no other immediate plans to follow... and also don't intend stick around to eat it. Maybe go grab a pint to go and call it compromise?
