Best Gun range around!! I have been going here for a couple of years now. The staff is always very friendly and available if you need assistance . I've used them to purchase items and for transfers but most of all for the range. We go every other Thursday Ladies day$12 pp ( Great price) to shoot , sad to say that today when I went I was told that the range was closing at the end of June 2024 , They will open up a new shop further down the road and it will be just a Gun store , no range . In a world of Mega corporate owned stores, it's refreshing to shop at a locally owned and operated business. I found this location thanks to Yelp, and used it's software to guide me to RKA. I arrived shortly before they opened and can report they opened the doors for business five minutes early. Entering the store, I received a friendly greeting. They asked how they could help and I explained that I was just looking. There was no hassles or pressure, they let me wander the store unmolested (unlike some stores where they hang all over and pressure you). When I had questions, they were there to answer and help. Dave went above and beyond the call of duty and wasn't put off with all my questions. To my surprise they had a pre 1964 Winchester 94, a couple of Colt SAA and many other antique weapons. What caught my eye was a SAA 45LC in Nickel, it was lust at first sight. Dave made the filling out of all the paperwork straight forward, and answered all my questions. It's amazing the new rules and regulations in place since my last firearms purchase. Without someone well versed with the process, filling out all the papers would have been a daunting task. I truly hope management/ the owners read this review because Dave did an outstanding job. I'm looking forward to, after waiting the state mandated cooling off period to spending some range time at their incredible and pristine looking range with my newest addition. read more

Walked in during prime time on a Saturday after visiting a "big box" gun shop. I was immediately greeted and shown one of the firearms I was interested in. They didn't have the one I really wanted in stock, but let me know they could order it without any problem. I went ahead with the order, processed the paperwork, and had the firearm in hand by the time the waiting period was up. Super customer service, and the order took no longer than if they had it in stock. I'm now a regular customer at their range as well, and continue to find the staff always friendly and knowledgable. read more

Nice range, but don't go there of you shoot reloads. They don't allow reloads. On top of that their posted rules say that any brass that hits the ground belongs to them. If they don't want you to shoot reloads that's fine, but if I'm shooting factory CCI Blazers or whatever, don't tell me I can't bend down and pick up the cases cause they belong to the range now. read more

I have been to RKA several times. Every single time I go it is painfully awkward to talk to the employees. They seem like they do not want to be there. I went in to hopefully buy a glock from them. They had the item in stock however it felt like I was pulling teeth to try and get them to even tell me about the gun. I ended up driving to another store to make my purchase. The employees there obviusly do not want to be there. Will not be shopping there again. Also the CCL class they teach I cannot reccomend that either. I took it passed and the man spelled my name wrong on the certificate, and when I went to ask him to fill me out another one he stated: "You will need to pay for and take the class again". This made absolutly no sense, I can understand needing to maybe take the class an additional time. I will not pay for a mistake they made though. read more

Several months ago I purchased a Shooting-Range Package for Two or Four with Lesson, Range Time, and Ammo from Living Social to be used at RKA Gun Gallery. My daughter and I took the class the other night, our instructor was Annie, who was extremely knowledgable about all aspects of guns. This was the first time my daughter had been exposed to a gun, and she was very apprehensive about shooting the gun. Annie did a wonderful job at assisting my daughter, that she left there feeling comfortable and said she really enjoyed the experience. The class was nice because it was for women only. My fiance & I were at RKA january 27, 2019 in the AM for West Suburban Concealed Carry qualification. RKA staff were professional, engaging, knowledgable, & helpful. They assisted us with questions regarding handguns, cleaning & ammo. "They should do this," you say? Yes, they should, but you would be surprised at some people's lack of knowledge or ability to interact with the public. There store was packed with loud students but they maintained professionalism the whole time & were personable. When I had to qualify, I had an awesome instructor. I admit it, i was nervous but he was reassuring, helpful in grip, stance, & aiming suggestions, etc... while I was shooting, the instructor gave me several suggestions, which positively assisted my target practice. Where to start. I just bought a ruger sr9s & love it. The help here is the best, prices are far & I was treated with respect. The place is clean, range is clean & has good lighting. The range price is cheap, $19/hr for handguns & $30/hr for rifles. Ammo is about the same price as Wal-Mart. This is the only range & gun shop my family & I am going to buy from. My family & I have got a total of 5 guns from here without problems & the staff makes shore that the gun or rifle is the right one for you & your needs. Never had to worry in here & they are willing to show you any gun you want to look at & you can rent any gun you are interested in buying to try in the range. read more

Solid shooting facility here in Plano. Clean and the staff was friendly. My only complaint was the shooting area seems to be tight enough that if others are shooting louder guns, the sound is not being absorbed very well. As a business owner i can tell you that good help is not only hard to find, it doesnt exist. I own 3 different businesses, one of which is a firearms training service. This past weekend we had a major scheduling mistake which left me the morning of class without a reserved time to qualify my class. The fault was all mine. I called Russ and without batting an eye, i he made time for me. Most ranges would have told you or me we were s***t out of luck but Russ knocked it out of the park for me and my students. Every time we go there it is a pleasant experience. Very comfortable and polite atmosphere. read more

I am a 50 year old woman and completely new to shooting and gun ownership. I have had my FOID card for over a year, so you can see I am taking my time with this entire endeavor. The first time I ever shot a gun was about 6 weeks ago. My older brother, who was visiting from Ohio, was to take me shooting for my first time. We worked with Bob to rent a couple of guns for me to try. He was very patient, allowing me to handle a number of pistols before deciding what we would shoot. He gave me my first good scolding of keeping your finger off of the trigger until ready to shoot. The entire experience was wonderful. Since that time, I have taken an Intro to Pistol class with Dave. The classes are through the Firearm Safety Group. It was really an informative and practical class. I have also rented two more times to try and settle on the handgun I would purchase. I worked with Bob again both times and he was great. I settled on a Walther PPS M2 and am excited to begin my concealed carry classes next month. I chose to purchase my gun here and they took my rental for that day off the price of my gun. I could have paid a bit less elsewhere but I wanted to purchase from them. One of the employees, Ivan, who owns this gun spent time talking to about different magazine sizes for the gun. Really friendly, knowledgeable staff who take their time with you. They are strict with the rules, but that is how it should be. I'm looking forward to continuing my training and practice with this shop. They are awesome. read more

Two things are best left to professionals...open heart surgery and installing a recently purchased extended slide lock lever on a Glock 36. Went to RKA fully expecting to have them ship out my pistol to a smithy- boy was I wrong. The staffer asked if I had a few minutes (of course I did) and took my gun to the far end of the service counter. He came back in two minutes with the side lock installed. When I asked how much he smiled and said "have a great day". RKA has a new lifelong customer who will be spreading the word about their excellent operation. Thank you RKA !!! read more

My son is 14 and shoots with me, I feel it is important he learns the safety and responsibility of handling a firearm. Just came from RKA GUN RANGE in Plano. This place is AWESOME! As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Shaun (hope that is how he spells his name) immediately. I informed him that I was new to the shooting world and he was very eager to get me started on the range. He took me through all of the necessary paperwork and was was very friendly while doing it, also gave me range rules. Once I was really in the range, Steve 2.0 helped me get situated with the targets and my stance. He checked on me frequently to make sure I was safe. I had a misfire and he was there to walk me through the procedure to make sure that I was safe and continue to have a good gun experience. There is a range that is very close to my home but I chose to take the 25 minute ride from Aurora to Plano and I am so glad I did! Purchased a Glock 27 a few months ago and had a fairly good experience. Not much customer service needed since I had done my research and just wanted to buy from a local place. So I took my older (1999) S&W .40 VE in that I have been having some jamming issues with. I explained the issue to the employee behind the counter and watched him make notes about the issue. I also asked them to install a trigger kit due to the stock one being a very heavy pull. I was told that the turn around would be about 2 weeks. I get the call 2 weeks later that the pistol was ready for pickup. I asked if they had found the issue with the weapon jamming. The employee on the phone says they installed the trigger kit. I proceeded to explain the original jamming issue again and was told there was no mention on the completing notes about a jamming problem. They did not offer to contact the gunsmith or have him re-assess the weapon. Fast forward 3 days and I go to pick the pistol up. I mention again about the jamming issue, thinking that maybe I just had an uninformed employee on the phone. Still no offer to contact the gunsmith or try and resolve the issue. Better yet the employee told me that I was probably "limp wristing" the weapon and causing it to jam. I am a former Marine and have extensive weapons training. I have fired this pistol with no issues until lately. RKA can kiss my Semper Fi ass. read more

The people that work here are probably some of the most knowledgeable and friendliest people around. I drive close to 1 hour to shoot there. It is well worth my time, and Thursdays are always half off range prices for women! Plus there's a Ladies night out at the range, usually the 3rd Wednesday of the month I believe, and they have some program of interest for ladies and half off range time from 6 pm til 9 pm, with instructors available to help!! Good range and some interesting items to check out in the store front. The reason for my review is their policy on picking up brass. They claim it is a safety precaution but no other range I've ever been to has that rule. If you want to keep and sell MY brass just tell us instead of claiming it is a safety precaution. That's why they can allow big calibers. Because almost everyone who shoots them wants to pick up their brass and like myself will refuse to go there if we can't. Change your stupid rules and I'll change my review because I did like the lanes and the brightness of the range. Stop robbing us of our brass. We big caliber shooters and reloaders put a lot of time and money into our hobby, please support us. read more

DONT GO HERE FOR YOUR CONCEAL CARRY LICENSE! So I went here to inquire about the conceal carry class. I told one of the guys behind the counter on my first visit, his name was Jason,that I'm a certified Deputy Sheriff in Corrections and showed him my State Certificates that I'm qualified and certified under the State Of Illinois Law Enforcement Training Board and Cook County Sheriff's along with my Illinois Peace Officer Firearms Certification which is all current, Im qualified and should only take the 8 HOUR CLASS. Jason came back and even showed me a form that verified this. The second visit I came back and showed another guy name Don my certifications to sign up to just take THE 8 HOUR COURSE, after checking with another employee in the back, I assume was a manager, he told me no. I have to take the full 16 hour course. Obviously they have no idea what they are talking about or are not properly informed.I signed up with Critical Decision In Aurora Illinois the same day NO PROBLEM and they took my Peace Officer Certifications, so I only have to take the 8 Hour class with Critical Decision. I even called other concealed carry classes and they all agreed that I'm qualified to just have to take the 8 HOUR COURSE I WOULDNT TRUST THEM TO ISSUE YOU CONCEAL CARRY OR TRAIN YOU!! IF THEY CANT EVEN FIGURE THIS OUT. GO ELSEWHERE!!! read more

Went here with a friend recently to introduce him to handguns. The check-in process for the range was a little tedious with a waiver/rules form that you have to complete and sign. You're then asked to keep it to make the process faster in the future. The prices are reasonable for range time in the Chicagoland area. One nice feature is that once you check-in, you go shoot and then pay when you leave on a pro-rated basis of the time you were in the range. Target prices were reasonable. There was also a decent selection of rental guns for most of the popular handguns on the market in varying calibers. I did not purchase ammo and cannot comment on the price. They appreared to have a nice selection for firearms and accessories for sale and the few prices that I saw were in line with brick and mortar stores in the area. The range is well lit, like brand new, and has a nice shelf below the shooting line/bench that you can put items on. I didn't ask, but noticed on the website that they allow rifle calibers up to .50 cal in the range which is virtually unheard of for indoor ranges in the area. One reason for a reduction in the stars is that they do not allow you to collect your brass casings (one of the rules you sign off on), which is not appealing at all to reloaders. The staff, although somewhat slow, were cordial enough and didn't have the elitist attitude that you get at some ranges that I've been to. Although it's not conveniently located for me, I would consider going back with a friend in the area and maybe bringing some BIG guns to test out their large caliber policy. read more

BEST GUN SHOP/RANGE I'VE EVER BEEN TO!! I've been shooting for a few years and have been to several gun shops. I've never walked in with a know it all attitude, the exact opposite. I'm quiet and listen to what he sales person has to say and try to learn. Almost every experience I've ever had in a gun shop was with an arrogant sales person. Almost every employee of every gun shop I've ever been in acted like a numb government employee. Every time they are Dry, rude, impatient, and or plain uncomfortable. Russ was awesome! He was very knowledgable, welcoming, helpful, polite, and very patient. He asked us tons of questions to get to know us and what we were looking for. He gave us several options and encouraged us to shop by feel and not price. We ended up spending much more than we planned because we got to use and handle guns we wouldn't have given a chance due to price. Once we got familiar with them it was a no brainier. Price didn't matter as much as quality, fit, and performace. We also spoke with other employees there during our range check in and check out. They were also top notch. Very friendly, very relaxed people. This place just felt like home. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. I'm so glad it's so close to my house, I can't wait to go back!! read more

I have to agree, if I buy the bullets, the brass is mine to keep! I went there this morning which was a bad time. Sunday 9am and all the folks for the CC class were there trying to get checked in. This caused chaos at the counter even though RKA had more then enough employees around. I couldn't even check in to shoot at the range. When I asked one of the older gentleman what I should do if I'm not in the class, I received an smart alec reply and was told they would get to me. Really? They need to fix that problem. Bring the CC class registration to a different room and have a keep someone on the counter to check in regular range visitors! Poor customer service and unorganized CC registration will only hurt your business! I'll probably come back since there really aren't too many other places to go near me but that the only reason, at this point, I would return!. read more

This is a great place to shoot. The staff are friendly and helpful with no elitist attitude. They are knowledgable but not pushy. If you have a question they will answer it without making you feel like they know more than you. The entire facility is very clean, the range looks brand new and the main floor is always well maintained. They have a good selection of rental guns to choose from, including some rifles. Their stock on handguns is a little low in my opinion but their prices are competitive compared to other stores in the area. They sell used guns as well and as long as you buy the ammo from them, you can shoot the used guns prior to purchasing them; this is a huge plus in my opinion. My wife and I went shooting the other day, I was a range pass holder. I say was because I tore it up. My wife purchased the pass for a x-mass present last year, and it was only good for 12 months. I only had 4 punches on it, I asked if there was anything I could do to extend the expiration date due to the fact they already had the money. I was told no, I asked even if I gave you a little more money? Still no. Then I asked " by law aren't gift cards and things like this, never to expire? He didn't utter a word. We were getting things ready, so I asked for 22 ammo," We don't have 22 ammo, on one does". Second strike. Now the straw, As I was shooting I was doing very well with my 45, but when I switched to my 9mm I was all over the place. I looked at my wife (that was just standing there because she didn't have ammo) and stated I think my sights are off. She asked " aren't they fixed sights" Now I am a firm believer of off target off trigger. I was standing facing north holding my 9mm in my left hand with the barrel facing down range, which would be facing west. My wife was to my right, the weapon was empty with the slide lock open( not that that matters) I showed my wife the adjusting screws, and then put the gun on the bench. I was on the firing line when what I presumed was a range officer came up behind me, (not a smart thing to do to a man with a loaded gun) and told me I had my finger on the trigger when I was showing the gun to my wife. I tried explaining that the way I was positioned that that was imposable. But the little big man in the power ranger suite got all puffy chested, and no matter what I said, I was wrong . So I packed up my equipment and left. O ya even though they didn't have 22 ammo, and my wife didn't shoot they still charged for her. read more

Not impressed. Stopped in shortly after they opened to see if they consign guns. The guy working said they do and that they would help determine a value. Went back several weeks later to consign my AR and the guy whose name is on all the business cards was not helpful at all - at setting the price. He was very vague on possible value. I left there with my AR. I thought I'd give them another try a few months ago, brought in my .22 rifle and .410 shotgun. I inherited both and neither had been shot in a while. I cleaned ten both, but they would jam when shooting them. Plus the .410 was missing a screw in the trigger guard. Took them to RKA to have their gun smith look at them. Again I walk in and the guy whose name is on all the business cards helped me if you want to call it that. He told me the problem was likely how dirty they both were and he recommended having his gunsmith clean it in the ultrasonic cleaner. He then pawned me off on an employee who was "better" at the computer stuff. It took this guy 45 minutes to check in my two guns for repair - ridiculous! I get a call two weeks later that my .22 was cleaned and working and that they couldn't fix my .410 because of all the missing parts! When I asked what were all the parts that were missing - I was told it was because of the trigger guard screw that was missing. That is part of why I took it in to them in the first place. The trigger guard does not effect the functionality of the gun. I took the .22 to the range a few weeks later and it jammed after about 10 shots, but this time the bolt was jammed half was back. I couldn't get the bolt to move at all. I took it home and took it all apart including taking the bolt apart and it was very dirty - all gunked up with crude. Clearly that ultrasonic cleaner did nothing. What an absolute was of time and money going to this place for anything - at least for me. read more

I've been trying to find .44 Special. OK....it's Sunday morning and I remember RKA because I've used the range before. I look through their web site and see a bunch of .44 special....so I'm thinking that they stock it. I try to call first because it is a one hour trip one way. No answer.....but I'm picturing well stocked shelves of ammo....so I make the trip. WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE! I looked thru the counters where their very limited selection of ammo is and was only able to find 3 boxes of .44 mag. I stood there for about ten minutes waiting for assistance but the guy behind the counter turned his back on me and started bullshiting with a couple that was standing at the opposite counter. Well.....I started doing a slow burn thinking of all the time I just wasted driving out to Plano, realizing that they have a very limited selection of ammo, and then having to deal with lousy customer service. So I walked out and I doubt anyone even noticed. I was ready to spend a few hundred dollars on ammo....but it certainly won't be at RKA. I doubt I'll ever return. read more
