I made an appointment by phone in advance and dropped off my car in person for a quote on replacing 2 struts and for an oil leak dye test. I spoke with J. in the front office and I noticed he had the wrong car notes for my vehicle. I pointed this out and then we spoke for 10 minutes about the details of my car and what I brought it in for. I went over ongoing work on the car and told him specifically what has been or is already being done with the vehicle including the battery and valve gasket. I was assured that J. would check in my car and note the account for me, no call in required. Unfortunately, after 3 days when I was finally able to reach someone at the garage over the phone they sent me an email quoting me for another car's maintenance including work I did not request and work I specifically mentioned had already been done on my car. When I called them to correct the issue they were very hesitant to send me a fixed quote and were unable to answer simple questions about my car. The new quote included what I wanted but only had the information I had given when checking in the car with no additional information or a report of an oil leak test. I went in person to get to the bottom of what was happening and at this point they had my car for 1 week. The man at the front desk was incredibly defensive and aggressive about the situation, admitting he had written the wrong notes and that a oil check as I requested had not been performed because of the work that is still being done to the car as of when I brought it in. The state of the car and what I needed was made clear when I dropped it off and it had not been communicated that there was an issue. At this point, a number of things were said that I found worrying: "I would have charged you more had I known you wouldn't do more work with us," "it's an old car no point looking past the first issue," "we do not take pictures of our work at any stage," "we do not do written notes," and I was also questioned on why anyone would use more than one mechanic ever as if people do not move or have different types of vehicles at the very least. As the front desk man had caused some of the communication issues, I understand the defensiveness, but there was clear intimidation in the attitude and then after a long time a second man came in just to silently loom behind him the rest of the time, never contributing to the conversation and also unable to answer any of my simple questions about the vehicle. Very unfriendly and I am very unhappy with this experience so far. To be clear the quote for 2 front strut replacements was about $1450.00 on an older Toyota, and I decided to not do this work with them firstly because of the poor communication and note keeping this time. Secondly, they charge more than 2x market price for parts. The oil leak dye check has still not been performed but after much hem-hawing I was assured that I can bring my car in this next two weeks to do it, but was also told that it may take them several weeks to complete an oil leak test, which was not completed the first week they had the car. This is no regular timeframe. Who can wait over three weeks for just an oil leak test? Cost: $140. They said they "price similarly our neighbor, Borst Automotive, perhaps coming out a few dollars cheaper." Due to the unprofessionalism and poor state of vehicle on pick up inspection no longer comfortable doing business with Garner.

My review was neither defamatory or exaggerated, just that they told me to go somewhere else after I made an appointment. I had already called him and told him I was disheartened by his poor service and canceled my appointment so the email was unnecessary and completely petty, lending credibility to the notion that his initial refute was just as petulant. What a shame the owner would let his reputation suffer over something so stupid.

The first visit was about a year ago when I purchased tires for my daughter's car. It was fine--very transactional. Appointment made, tires installed, done. Nothing memorable, nothing bad, nothing review-worthy. This time was a completely different story. I called on Friday and spoke with a gentleman named Russell, who explained that they fix tires with nails or screws for free. He told me to just bring the car in and that they were taking walk-ins all day. Based on that conversation, I went in on Saturday. The store was extremely busy with appointments and walk-ins, and after waiting about 40 minutes without ever being seen after the initial check in, I decided to leave and make an appointment instead. Since they're closed on Sunday, I scheduled an appointment for Monday and came back today. I checked in, clearly explained that I was there for one thing only: to have a nail/screw removed from my tire. The tire wasn't even flat--I had just noticed the screw and wanted it repaired properly. They did their standard inspection, which is understandable, and then told me that all four tires needed to be replaced. I explained that I was not in the market for four new tires and certainly wasn't planning on spending $1,200-$1,300 today. I just wanted the tire fixed. I even would have been willing to pay for the repair, despite being told it was free. That's when I was told they could not fix my tire because I didn't purchase the tires there. So to be clear: because I didn't agree to buy four new tires, they refused to repair a tire with a nail in it--even though I was told over the phone that this was a service they provided. And no they did not fix it. I guess I had to buy new tires. Horrendous service. Extremely disappointing, especially given how simple this should have been.

Staff couldn't move past the fact that the flat tire I brought in didn't fit the car I was driving, when they did figure out the car it was installed on, they had the wrong car, I own several. I asked to have the weight mounted on the back, they had ignored that request on the initial installation as well. Guess what ignored it this time as well. I asked to save my casing, was told "no problem", several times. When I picked it up, the weight was on the outside and the Manager refused to give me the casing, because I used the certificate, THAT I PAID FOR. I will make an appointment to replace the tires and return these and the CERTIFICATES. This what not a bad experience, just the standard that I now expect from this store. My fault for going back...

What if it's easy to get an appointment AND easy to get walk-in service that's courteous and prompt? What if it's easy to get your tires rotated. Since then, I have bought from Discount Tires in at least three cities, since I travel too much. A total of well over 50 tires, on over a dozen cars by actual count. All B.F. Goodrich KO tires, since I live on a dirt road, and need the extra protections on the sidewalls. Any time I have bought a car, I have gone straight to Discount Tires to put on a new set. Expensive, but if you've ever changed a tire on a dirt road in southern Arizona in the summer, you will understand. Discount Tires offers a pretty good guarantee, which I have used more than once. Good stuff. At least until yesterday, when I ran into a brick wall at the store where I have bought the most tires. I got a slow leak in one of my front tires, so I took my Subaru in to my favorite store to get it repaired. They advertise that they will fix flats whether you bought it from them, or not. Slam dunk, since I actually bought the tire from them anyway, right? Wrong. Alex went on out to my car when I brought it in at the appointed time, and looked at all the tires on my car, and reported that he could not fix the flat on my front tire, because one of the rear tires is 11 years old. Huh? What does that have to do with the front tire, I asked? Well, it turns out that company policy, according to Discount Tires, is that they will not work on a car that has an old tire. Not work on the tire, the whole car. Doesn't matter if they sold the tire in question, all the tires on the car, or none of them. Company policy. I whined that I had been a great Discount Tires customer for decades, always bought the high-dollar tires, blah blah. No dice. He hands me back the keys, shows me the door. Now, you may ask why I have such an old tire on my car to begin with. Well, the tread is not only not worn out, but it matches perfectly the wear on the rest of the tires on the car. If you have ever owned a Subaru, you know what this means. If your tires are mismatched in the tread, you will toast your transmission eventually. Really. Ask friends who drive Subarus. So, if I replaced the old tire, I would have to buy four BFG tires, for well over a thousand bucks. Rather not, if I don't have to. The old tire has about half the tread, has no cracks, has been watched carefully over the years, but its old. End of story. No more Discount Tires for me.
