Stopped into Road Runner Sports in Concord looking for a new shoe for my upcoming Presidio race and ended up having a really great experience. I was greeted immediately and helped by Travis, who walked me through their foot analysis process. They have a scanner that provides a detailed report on your foot size, gait, arch type, and overall movement patterns. It was fascinating to see all the information and learn more about how I walk and train. After trying several options, I went with the Nike Pegasus 42, and they are incredibly comfortable. I also signed up for their VIP Family program, which includes discounts on purchases and a 90-day return policy, making it easy to feel confident about the investment. The store carries a great selection of running, walking, and athletic shoes for both men and women, along with apparel, supplements, socks, and accessories. The experience was so good that I actually went back the next day and picked up the cutest running hat that says "Cheaper Than Therapy Run Club." I fully plan on wearing it to the race. On my second visit, Alberto helped me and provided the same excellent customer service. I also learned about their weekly community run/walk club, which meets Thursdays at 6 PM and utilizes the nearby Iron Horse Regional Trail. I've always had an incredible experience here and this time it was thanks to Marcos. We came in to find shoes for my mother-in-law, and the level of care he provided was truly exceptional! Marcos was incredibly patient and genuinely caring throughout the entire process. He noticed my mother-in-law was wearing a 7.5 wide and although it was a good fit, suggested an 8 wide instead to better accommodate her feet. And it was! She felt more balance and less tension and it showed on the treadmill when she was able to increase her MPH. He didn't just stop at the size, though; he performed a full walking analysis and constantly monitored her stride to ensure the fit was perfect. Even though the store was incredibly busy, Marcos never rushed us. He must have gone back and forth to the stockroom at least a dozen times to pull different options, knowing full well we were only there to buy one pair. He personally swapped her insoles into every single shoe she tried on--and we probably went through about 8 different pairs in various sizes. His expertise really shines when he talks about the technical side of things, like toe-gap and overall comfortability. On top of the technical fit, he has a great eye for aesthetics; he picked out colors that perfectly matched my mother-in-law's personal style. It's rare to find this kind of dedicated service. The store was clean, all staff was friendly, they offered water as you shopped and happily answered any questions I had. When the kids were running track and field, we would visit this location to get their training shoes. They always had the best selection. This evening, we arrived 10 minutes before closing time. I came in for a fitting just to see what's wrong with my feet since I always get pain from standing/running too much. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful and set me up with Jawan for my fitting. Jawan was knowledgeable, friendly, down to earth and incredibly helpful. He explained the 3D image scans and pictures of me on the treadmill to let me know my gait and tread. I then tried on 4-5 different pairs of shoes and even though the first pair already felt great, he had me try on all of them to find the perfect fit, explaining what each shoe did and why I probably liked/disliked them. I tested the shoes out on an all day adventure to San Jose and Great America and didn't once feel feet pain. The shoes were really comfortable and had way more tread/grip than the crocs I've gotten used to wearing since all other shoes I've tried gave me foot pain. I ended up with Brooks Ghost Trails which are running/hiking shoes and I love them. Was a great experience and will definitely be back, even though Jawan called me out on my Chucky socks which probably weren't doing my feet any favors. read more

I want to preface my review by saying that my rating is only for the customer service. The customer service was outstanding, but the overall satisfaction is severely lacking. I was looking for new shoes that were appropriate for both weightlifting and treadmill. Jocelyn was super helpful and kind in helping me determine my foot size and what shoes would be the best fit for me. She determined that I needed extra wide shoes for one particular brand, so she went ahead and had their warehouse send it over. I got a voicemail about two weeks after my visit that the shoes had arrived and were ready for me to pick up. I ended up not buying, and it's because Road Runner pushes an annual membership fee, which includes returns up to 90 days after purchase if I end up not liking the shoes, no matter the condition. I noticed before they put in the request for the warehouse, they had two different retail prices for shoes: One was regular retail price, and the other had a discount with a membership. When I went in today, I was about to pay for the shoes, and the employee asked me if I had ever shopped before, and I said I had never bought shoes from them before. The employee then asked if I knew anyone who had a Road Runner account, and I said no. That's when they pushed a membership sale and explained their policies. I asked if I didn't want a membership, what would happen if I had a change of heart with the shoes. The employee told me that I wouldn't be guaranteed a refund/return, and that the shoes would have to be in immaculate condition to be eligible, and the employees and store had the right to inspect the shoes. That sounds so arbitrary and the membership seems to basically buy a refund if you want it. I don't find this place worth it at all, and will probably buy from the brand directly. read more

I go here to get fitted about every year where they analyze your feet, have you run, and you can get fitted for cushioning and try on their recommended shoes that fit best for you and your running or walking needs. They have a variety of shoe brands and options. They also sell apparel, and running goods too. I usually get extra cushioning. It can get busy here especially after work when you're looking for assistance. But they let you take your time and you can run around to try the shoes on. They have a great VIP service plan and family plan for discounts and 90 day return option. I've gone through brooks, aesics, on clouds, and saucony. They have hokas and all of the other brands too. The staff are super friendly and helpful! Parking is easy as it's located in a large shopping plaza. There isn't much ATT phone service in the store. There's a bathroom and fitting room as well and you can get your running essentials like gels and bars. read more

Since we moved back to Walnut Creek, I've just been bad about visiting this location versus the Berkeley location, so it was wonderful to walk in, explain the issue and have new inserts quickly made for me. I am really bummed to be writing this bad review. I have a 10K to run this weekend and it has given me the courage and motivation to try to run a half marathon in the coming months! I visited the Concord location several years ago and thought it would be great to get fitted for shoes again. I was really looking forward to coming to get fitted for shoes and was planning on buying shoes, insoles, socks, and anything else they recommended in order for me to achieve this bucket list goal of mine. The moment I walked in Estefania approached me with an abrupt greeting. In the first 60 seconds of our interaction, I could tell that she wasn't happy to be there and it made me also not happy to be there. I almost thought about asking for another associate but everyone else seemed to be busy at the register or with another customer. I figured maybe she was having a bad day or needed some time to warm up so I tried to make some conversation with her about running, shoes, etc. like I was the one trying to sell her. But, she was sticking to her script of questions she needed to ask me, to the point where she seemed annoyed when I "interrupted" her spiel. I understand being professional, but she was being borderline rude and it made me question why she would choose a sales role if she wasn't going to at least be enthusiastic about what she's selling or act like she cared about her customer. She went to ring somebody else up at the register, and I was waiting there for probably about five minutes needing to have questions answered about the shoes I was given to try on. I had also asked for a larger size and she hadn't brought them yet. I saw another sales associate giving her customer more detailed information about her shoe choices, let her try them on the treadmills they have, etc. I ended up asking her if Estefania is always this abrupt and borderline rude. I was shocked to find out Estefania is a manager there. I understand you might be busy, but you don't need to treat a nice customer badly that is there to buy $180 shoes. After waiting a few more minutes with no help I decided to walk out.
