Not accommodating to disabled people. Don't know about ADA accommodations and when explained, still won't listen. Lost a lifetime customer. I will just spend my money elsewhere. Just lost out on hundreds of dollars. UPDATE: Just went to a resale shop. THEY understand that the governor's mandate has medical exceptions. They adhere to 100% of the face-mask suggestions by governor's edict which includes medical exceptions. They happened to have some NB shoes in stock in my size. Saved over $200. Your loss. Suggestion: actually read the order in its entirety and follow it 100%. Don't discriminate against persons who have medical conditions. "Archaic" might be the best word to describe this store. You'll be told to sign in on a sheet of paper as you walk in before anyone will help you, and asked to list your phone number for everyone else in the store to see. I ordered my shoes - and paid for them! - online - which one would think would make this process a snap. However, at this store, that didn't matter. Still had to sign in, sit down, and wait. Eventually, two employees who were cleaning up the store and who didn't look at the list asked me if I had been helped and seemed surprised when I said no. This would literally seem to be the purpose of that paper sign in list straight out of 1987. Finally, 15 minutes later, I finally had my online order pickup that should have taken 30 seconds. Have purchased New Balance for years. Today I was reaffirmed why. Greeted properly and almost immediately as I and heard the store. Gentleman by the name of Leo took care of me. Experienced True professionalism. He had me try on 11 pair of different fitting shoes until we found the perfect fit. It took approximately 45 minutes and he was not rushed at all. I need another pair of gym shoes for an out-of-town location, instead of buying them out of town, I will go back to Leo and this particular store. Thank you for the great experience. New Balance still won't accommodate a customer who's unable to wear a face mask. Which is strange, since as another reviewer pointed out 6 months ago, no one is ordering them to discriminate. Must be choosing to do it on their own. They said it was the governor, but there are currently no executive orders in effect in Illinois regarding COVID-19. The court ruled in July that the governor's authority to issue such orders ended April 8, and this ruling was upheld on October 19. Maybe the health agency is harassing/threatening them, which they should know is illegal. Or maybe they're being bribed by the governor to discriminate. I don't know what's going on, but this treatment is awful. I was offered the opportunity to be fitted for shoes outside. Really? It was in the 30's today. All businesses are required to provide, to all people, fair and equal access to services. That means anyone should be able to come into the store, look around and try on shoes. It's my birthday, and I was looking forward to being fitted with and advised on getting some good quality shoes for the first time. Oh well. I won't be returning to this store. read more

Everything was great when I was shopping for shoes at this location a couple of days ago. I have been a loyal New Balance customer for over ten years now. They had the perfect fit in a black leather walking shoe for me in stock. The folks who work at this Schaumburg location are very knowledgeable to say the least! This seems like a very busy little shop. Only two or three workers for five or six customers in waiting. Not many selections and we didn't like most of their styles. The ones we do like, they didn't have in our preferred colors. We almost went with one but found something better elsewhere. There are many older adults or elderly there who probably give more stars so don't let our rating deter you. read more

Excellent staff and THE best selection of shoes in wide widths! My running days are long a thing of the past but I need a 4E width. There are no manufacturers that make a quality walking or light hiker in my width. New Balance has been in the business of making wide width athletic shoes since I was a 20-something who thought he knew everything and could run a decent 10K. The Schaumburg staff is as attentive and caring for middle-age guys like me as they are for the young weekend warriors. My sales associate brought out 6 different pairs of shoes for me to try on to make sure that they comfortably fit my screwed up feet. I really appreciate the service. Desperately in search of a good running shoe for the Warrior Dash and associated training and looking for a place where people actually know about running shoes, I stumbled on the New Balance store while on my way to Woodfield. Just what the doctor ordered! After a quick 5 minute conversation with the fella who works there about what my goals are and what types of terrain I'll be covering, he had 3 different options that would fit the bill. I tried all three on and even took them for a spin on their treadmill. I ended up settling on a pair of Trail Minimus and after putting 10 or so miles on them, I'm super stoked with the choice. The salesman even said that if I have issues or discomfort before the race, come back in and they'll take care of it. Excellent! read more

Due to the whole purchase history is in their system so especially if wanting to get the same pair is just that easy by having them to look you up in the system and boom same pair of shoes and you are ready to go. I stopped in to see what could be done with 2 pairs of shoes I was talked into purchasing at another store that were clearly too small. Kevin helped me by offering to stretch them for a few days and see if that helps at all. Also purchased 2 new pairs. Was very patient and kind in finding the right shoes and size. They had a system wide issue with using their credit card machine which made the transaction take a long time I eventually had to write a check instead of paying by card. Never my choice but clearly not the stores fault. The shoes aren't cheap by any means but hopefully worth the price. read more

My podiatrist recommended I be fitted for orthotics. I had been to the Oakbrook store several years earlier and had a good experience. Since I was out in the Schaumburg area that day, I decided to try them out. Service was fair to poor at best. I did not receive a full explanation on the process and had to pull info out of the salesperson. When it came time to check out, I had to repeat my personal info three times as they claimed the systems didn't jive. The bar code for my model number didn't work and there were three people trying to ring me up. I made a remark about this issue and the girl behind the counter got snippy and stated they were not trained. They were numerous sales people standing around doing absolutely nothing but chit chatting with each other. I'm really surprised. With the amount of styles of shoes that new balance offers, "new balance Chicago" has a very limited selection. When the salesman asked what I was looking for he told me they didn't stock it and tried to sell me something I had already said I didn't want. I asked the salesman if he could get the shoe I was looking for and again he tried selling me a different shoe they had in stock I left and 20 minutes later I found the new balance shoe I was looking for elsewhere. read more

I've been wearing New Balance shoes for years. This was my first time at the Schaumburg store. Although I had to wait several minutes (hence 4 stars instead of 5), once Mike gave me his attention I felt VERY well taken care of. He provided fantastic, personalized service, got me well-fitted into exactly the right shoes and was kind and attentive throughout the entire process. He was very knowledgeable about the inventory and even managed to upsell me on a two-pack of synthetic socks...but without any high-pressure tactics. I used to have very good experiences at this store. I am hesitant to go back. The last time I visited, I was looking for a good pair of walking shoes for an upcoming trip to Israel. I knew which pair of shoes I wanted to try on and was prepared to pay for them. The salesgirl must of been having a bad day. She told me to go down the street and buy a pair of shoes at Kohl's. Fantastic staff!!! Always incredibaly helpful. I bought a pair of shoes from them and didn't keep the receipt or box and without question let me exchange them for a pair better suited for me. I agree that the staff are friendly but something is amiss in New Balance's ordering process. I went to this store because I had a 15% off coupon. On 7/30/2014, the shoes that I wanted were not in stock so they were ordered. On 9/9/2014, they arrived in the store, ready for me to pick up. I WAS kept in the loop during this time aside from one idiot who claimed that my shoes had been shipped out to me on August 8th. In future, I'll go to another full-service shoe store that carries both New Balance and other brands. read more

Update: Last week, I returned to the store. I wanted another pair. I told the same woman who usually helps me, " I like the fit of the Minimus shoes, but I'd like a bit more padding." She directed me to the appropriate shoes. I know, wearing these shoes for all day in the feet retail is not what they are intended for, so I chose not to use the 30-day guarantee, and keep my Minimus. As recommended, I bought a pair with a similar fit to my not so old shoes, and with more padding. Perfect. Bought another pair of tiki socks! read more

My teenage son has problems with his feet structure and they are very large. We have come here for years. Staff are always friendly and knowledgeable, you won't find that at a department or discount store. Art is the salesperson who has helped us the last few times and knows his stuff. I really want to give 0 stars. My 86-year old aunt who is visually impaired, can barely walk with a walker, and needs oxygen, came to this store with her home health care aide because she thought she should have a pair of shoes which fit to go to the doctor's office when needed. She has leg and foot edema and her aide thought that this store carried extra large shoes to fit her feet. She needed size 9 and 5 wide (EEEEE). The largest size the store carried was 4 wide, and the sales clerk convinced her to buy them. He told her that they would stretch a whole size larger. They were too tight, and she never wore them. Her health had declined further and can no longer walk, is in a wheel chair, and now just moved to a nursing home, and doesn't need shoes, only socks and couldnt get back to that store to return them. I was cleaning out her apartment when I found the brand new shoes, never worn, with a badly faded receipt which only the store name could be read. I went to New Balance to return these shoes. The cashier looked up the sale and told me that it was past the return window -- and that she paid $135 for these shoes!! She is on Medicaid and there is a discount plan for special shoes, if I had known what she wanted. I still asked if there was any way to return these shoes, and all the workers at the store examined the shoes and agreed that they never had been worn. And, they became very rude. One said that he would speak to the manager in the back, came back and said the manager would give 1/2 the price of the shoes in store credit. There was nothing my aunt could use there, and I needed nothing there. I asked to speak to the manager, but he stayed in the back of the store and wouldn't come out, and sent the cashier running back and forth. The cashier was very rude and told me to have my aunt put the shoes on E-bay, which I don't know how to do either. So, I left. I called the New Balance Company headquarters and spoke to customer service there and was told that the store policy is if there is a late return, store credit is given for the FULL price-- not 1/2!!! So not only was my elderly aunt taken advantage of with the sale, the manager was ripping her off with the return!!! Stay far away from here. read more
