I have never been in this store before but stopped in today to pick up my race packet. You would think they would be on top of there game today with all the new possible customers stopping in. I was handed a 25% off coupon so I decided to browse. I picked a few items and was 2nd in line. They had 2 registers open and both had some sort of issue with customers making returns. They called someone to open a 3rd register and they took the first guest in line. The employee then spent a few minutes signing up the new customers information. I finally put down my items and walked out after waiting 10-12 minutes in line. The line behind me was now 8-10 customers deep and some of them looked annoyed as well. I am an avid runner and belong to a running club in bergen county with over 300 members so I am probably an ideal customer who won't return here. read more

This place is on the pricer side, but for good reason. The employees gave me their complete, undivided attention in my quest for the perfect running shoes. As someone who is new to the world of running, I had no clue how to choose the right shoe. Well they did it for me. My feet were measured and scanned, and I did test runs and walks. They explained everything to me really well. xD They walked me through all the different shoes and let me try on soooooo many different brands and styles. Amazing service. This was my second visit to this store. I had a wonderful experience the first time and the running shoes that I bought with the custom insoles are what I wear almost everyday. So I went back to get another pair and was helped by Neil Vyas. He was courteous, knowlegeable and listened to what I was looking for. We found the right style and fit but they didn't have the color I wanted so he ordered them for me. I also bought some exercise clothing and getting the discount with my VIP membership really helped! I went in because I need new running sneakers as most people will go to this store for. I was greeted immediately and ushered to the shoe dog station. I expected to go through the paces of this, as this usually happens in any specialty running store. The person helping me, was asking questions, but I really felt like it was scripted, because I already know about my arches and pronation and my foot strike and whatnot. I'M A RUNNER. So I asked the sales person if he runs. "No, I don't run, but I like to do research and they make me take classes." I should have just left right there, but I actually knew what shoes I wanted to try. I asked about shoes with a 8mm heel to toe diff. Salesperson looks baffled. I'm sorry, but you do not employ non-runners at a specialty running store! At least get some kid who runs CC or something for pete's sake. I won't be back. And for all the square footage of the store, the selection of actual sneakers was meh. read more

I have to say when I walked in this store I was very pleased. The female (unfortunately I forgot her name but she deserves a raise) that helped me get fitted was extremely nice and helpful. She offered me an additional discount because I am going to police academy and let me use a friends VIP who referred me. Now I am a first time customer, first time stepping in the door but still knew it would be expensive so I appreciated all of the discounts. I got fitted, selected my shoe and was going to the register which is where the problem started. Unfortunately I was checked out by a "manager" name Lyle. This man was rude from the begging, does not seem like he enjoys what he does at all. When I stepped up he didn't look at me, say a word or acknowledge my existence, he just asked me for my VIP number. I explained I didn't have one and was using my friends in which he replied "NO". That's it, just "NO". I then explained the associate told me that would be okay and he replied with a 5 year old comment of "well I'm the manager so no". The argument went on, i asked him if he really wants to lose out on a customer who is about to pay 200+ for running shoes. He said I need to speak with the store manager (suddenly there's another person above him). He came back and stated they will do it this once, when I started saying "thank y..." I was cut off by a "DONT THANK ME YET, I DIDNT FINISH WHAT I WAS SAYING".....You can't return this without your friend being here, and your card might be charged for his account.......I said ok and left with my stuff. My experience was great up to him, but I will never step foot in that store again and will make sure every single person I know police, fire, friends and family here this story before going to this location. If this man really is the manager, this location really needs to rethink their management. I will also be writing to corporation about this man as well. read more

The first time I went to Road Runner Sports I was given a fitting, which included a run on a treadmill with video analysis and foot analysis. After a series of questions I was recommended a certain type of shoe (support) and a pair of insoles ($60). I was also sold a VIP membership for $19.99 but after taking into account the 10% discount you get as a VIP that essentially came out free. They touted a 90-day return policy--no questions asked. I was hesitant to actually take them up on that after using the shoes for 60+ days as well as the long waits at checkout I had previously experienced. I headed there anyways without a receipt and I couldn't believe when I was given a full refund for the $96 shoes I had bought initially. This time I also got a free Cliff bar I was ready to pay for given my 5-minute wait at checkout. I had one of those moments where I instantly became a loyal customer. I wonder how they make money with this policy but it's true that I have already bought several pairs as I finally found the shoes I was happy with. As way of background I started getting into triathlons and am now training about 20 hours a week of which 6 to 8 might be running. If I stick with it, which I'm pretty sure I will, I will continue to use Road Runner for my shoe purchases. P.S. Be forewarned, to enjoy the VIP benefits be prepared to wait at checkout in the brick and mortar store in Paramus--small price to pay for this return policy and the running shoe selection they carry. read more

We went to the store for the first time several months ago to pick up t-shirts for the George Washington Bridge Challenge. After seeing the store we wanted to come back and purchase some sneakers. We went to this location on September 9, 2014 about 6:30-7:00pm. It was not busy (2 customers in store when we walked in) but we had to wait 15 to 20 minutes for a shoe dog evaluation. The service provided was very curt and dismissive. The evaluator kept on mispronouncing my name and made up a name on the computer for the shoe dog evaluation, which I had him correct. We never asked for any insoles but were evaluated for them. In the middle of our evaluation, the evaluator told us to hold and he went to another customer and evaluated that person for insoles. This is after we were made to wait. While the other customer didn't have to wait. Strange! By the way, we were never explained the cost or given any choices. We were passed over to another employee who was given our evaluation. This employee was very kind and patient with us. The sizes given to her by the shoe dog evaluator was all wrong. She had to keep on going back and getting different sizes. I was not impressed with this shoe dog evaluation. I was not impressed with the service provided except for the female employee who got the shoes for us. We ended up purchasing two pairs of sneakers based on service provided by the lady getting the shoes from the back for us. With the cost of the shoes I would have expected higher service. I don't think I will go back here again. That evening two male employees were very poor at providing service and the one female employee who got our sneakers gave us excellent service. We purchased sneakers based on the excellent service. 2 stars overall for the experience. Will not go back again most likely. read more

I have had the pleasure of visiting Roadrunner on several occasions recently, and I cannot say enough about my experiences. After visiting the store in June to buy a pair of running shoes, I was unhappy with the fit and I was feeling pain on my runs. I returned to the store, where Andrea spent 2 hrs with me (while my two children ran around in the most kid-friendly store I've ever been to), properly sizing me, switching my shoe-type, and making sure I was happy with my shoes. Despite her best efforts, after a few runs, I still was not satisfied (clearly I'm not easy to please, yet she kept trying). I returned a third time and this time, within an hour we found the perfect shoe for me. Almost two months later and I'm still running strong! Finally, this week, Andrea helped me again with a pair of CEP compression socks. I had gone online and purchased PRO Compression socks upon a recommendation from several running blogs. However, when they arrived (almost a month after my order), they were too big and felt terrible when I tried to run with them. The CEPs that Andrea recommended are PERFECT! I should also mention that during my visits, she managed to help several customers at once, making sure everyone was getting the personalized attention they needed. Andrea really goes above and beyond and gives her store a great reputation! Thank you :-) read more

The people who work here are very friendly and knowledgeable, and I got a great pair of running shoes that suited my needs. But I really, really don't like the hard selling tactics. Basically if you come here for shoes, they will also try and fit you with custom insoles. They won't tell you that you don't have to buy them, but you DON'T, so don't let them talk you into it. These insoles are like $70, which I think is crazy. They'll make you try any shoes on with the custom insoles. They will then try to sell you socks, braces, and a number of other running accessories. They will also repeatedly harass you about their frequent buyer program, which costs like $20. It saves you a lot (considering how overpriced things in this store are, especially the clothes), but they're really aggressive about it. I felt really uncomfortable about this and even though I'm really good at being able to put my foot down and say no to this stuff, I always worry that the salespeople are punished for not being successful enough at upselling. I'd come back here but with the way they operate, it feels unnecessarily stressful. read more

Coming here was the best decision I made last year. I'm not a runner but I was desperate for a pair of sneakers that I could walk around in for long periods of time without developing foot pain or feeling like my calves were tightening up. I was a little doubtful at first about the usefulness of the evaluation done on site but it revealed that I have high arches, which I always suspected, and need support. The insoles, also fabricated on site, have made all the difference. And now all I want to do is live in my sneakers. read more

Very bad first impression. Lots of staff walking around but not doing much. I was there looking at sneakers for my son who needs racing shoes for track. Spent 10 mins looking finally had to ask for help. The first person said he was busy then was told another person would help. He never came over and finally a girl came over to help. She was not too familar with stock and brought out several pairs of shoes for him to try on. She then left to assist another customer. I noticed only one pair of shoes were in his actual size and did not fit right. The others werenrandam sizes not sure why she brough them out. She told me to wait as she was helping another customer first. One who came in after us. I waited only because my son needed the shoes,15 mins later she comes back to inquire and informs that there were no other shoes available in his size. Wish she told me that 15mins before. I left without a purchase. The store staff seemed so disorganised with only a few customers that I cant understand any of the postive ratings unless done by staff. What a miserable experience, I was frustrated the minute I walked in there. First off, the place is chaos on a Saturday. I can understand that, and I would have gladly waited for assistance had there been some sort of organization or someone acknowledging my presence. I saw that there was a list for the shoe dog service but I just wanted to try on a of shoes, not use that service. When I finally flagged someone down (as not a single person acknowledged me for over 20 minutes) I tried on the pair of shoes and made my way to the register. I had a coupon that they had emailed me, however even with the printed email, they couldn't locate my membership. If i'm not a member, why am I getting coupons in the mail? After 10 minutes at the register I paid the non member price (she didn't use my coupon) and left extremely aggravated. I will not be going there, and will suggest other specialized local running stores to family and other runners. read more

If there was a way to give 10's I would. I am NOT a runner, but a walker and a nurse who is on her feet long hours. If you are a runner, walker or just want a really great pair of sneakers to make you feet feel fabulous this is your place. The people at the Road Runner store are fantastic. I have shopped there before but this last time I had Beth, who is a professional, yup you read that right, professional runner, assist me. RR has a thread mill in the store for you to walk, run, jog as they video your gait. Then Road Runner makes molded orthotics right there in the store for you to try your sneakers with. You are not obligated to buy the orthotics. Once RR determines if you are a toe, heel walker/runner or your specific gait needs they assist you in finding the best sneaker for you. They then put the orthotics in the shoes and you walk. Again you don't have to buy the orthotics. HOWEVER, once you try these orthotics your feet and walking/running experience will forever changed! The orthotics and selected sneakers immediately you can feel the difference. You can feel the way your body reacts to the RIGHT pair of shoes for you. Nope this is NOT Foot Locker, Sketchers or other mall stores. Be patient and let the fantastic people who work there help you, like they have done for me and I guarantee you will not be sorry. Our go to store for our running gear. We like this place for experience and technology to identify your feet profile. We were immediately greeted when we entered the store. The staff was very attentive with customers, one of them notably, Neil Vyas helped my husband and I picked out our new pair of sneakers. He immediately found our profile in the system and was very knowledgeable about every sneaker we picked up and suggested ones for us to try. We even picked up some lightweight RR socks with the tabs, which I've never owned before. Surprisingly they're just like hidden socks but more coverage on the back of the foot. (Good recco Neil) Since we usually purchase our sneakers from RR online or at the store we've been VIP members, Neil suggested that we would get more of the benefits if we upgraded. Which we did. Why not get rewards for shopping. Overall we enjoyed our experience at RR we'll be back again. read more

I had a great experience here. My sister-in-law recommended I come to get custom inserts and a good pair of sneakers after plantar fasciitis came along and sidelined my exercise routine. Neil V. helped me out and he was great, he came right up to me as soon as I walked in and took me through the whole process. It took about 30 minutes to get the custom insoles made (they put you on a treadmill and a couple other contraptions in the process), and to try out a few pairs of very nice sneakers. It wasn't cheap, the insoles, a good pair of sneakers and a few pairs of dry weave socks totaled about $280, but again, I was looking for quality to help with my problem and was ready to spend the money. Go during the week if you can, I went right when it opened on a Wednesday and was able to take my time with no crowds or aggravation. Also, ask for Neil, he is knowledgeable, professional, low pressure and as a bonus, quite funny too. read more

Overall it was fine, but it takes a really long time and it would've been nice to get a heads up that the insole they make for you, that you never ask for, is $80!!!! I've never written a yelp review before but it's outrageous that they do this, and people should know what to expect. This is certainly not a place where you can walk in and pick a sneaker and move it along. It wasn't very busy, but I waited close to 10 minutes, with no acknowledgement or a simple "we'll be right with you." I had to walk up to someone and ask to be helped, at which point I was told about the shoe dog process, and put my name on the list. Based on this analysis they tell you what type of sneaker you'll need and then they make an insole for you. At no point do they ask if you want this special insole or tell you that it costs $80. The woman who helped pick out my shoe based on my analysis was great, and she was very nice when I politely explained that, no, I would not be paying $80 for an insole for a $90 pair of sneakers. I'm sure they get that a lot. it's just incredible to me that they would try to sneak such a high cost item onto customers at the register. read more

I had a great experience at the PARAMUS location! and just to clear up some of the other reviews i read, they have 4 shoe dog and 4 treadmill stations. From what it looked like to me is that you could spend as much time as youd like on the treadmill in which ever shoe you'd like. And yes if you walk into the stores and they are busy it will take a little for them to get to you but they made that clear to me, which was fine and made sense cause they can only do so much at once. Justine was my sales girl and she was great, she listened to everything i said and she made some great points and explained to me a lot, and me not being a foot expert she got me up to date on the human foot! it was nice to find someone who actually knew there job! she cheked my foot print out, had me RUN on the treadmil not WALK and we watched the video to see where my problems were. she picked out some shoes for me based on what i told her earlier. she molded me some insoles and i tried it again and all i can say is WOW! it feels like i need to learn how to walk again they feel so good! the pain ive been experiencing while running for the past year has been unreal. ive asked my friends who are runners about it ive tried the insoles from dr scholls ive bought new shoes again and again and again. ive had my calves taped, i wear compression shocks, i ice my calves and ankles after a run and nothing! it always hurt. the morning after i bought my insole from Road runners i went to the gym to try them out and i had instant relief! i could not believe how much better my feet ankle and calves felt! i felt like Forest Gump breaking out of his braces! i hands down would recommend this place to anyone who is into feeling good and being healthy. a trainer at my gym who recommended me to go to this place told me that your best investment is in the proper shoe when training and he wasnt kidding! im so happy that went here cause the pain is gone in one try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh and as for the price (again with the best investment for health starts with your feet) you get what you pay for!!!!!! read more

The people who fit you for the shoes are very enthusiastic and encouraging, which is great. But if you don't know anything about running shoes, you have to be careful. I knew from being fitted at another store that I needed a certain size and they tried to tell me I was a size smaller. After trying on the size the salesperson insisted was correct, he saw they were too small. Finally we settled on a style/fit that the sales person told me would be perfect. He said I did not need the support shoes I had been wearing, because my pronation was not so severe and the shoes he was recommending were lighter. Two weeks of running in my new sneakers has given me some of the worst knee pain I've ever felt. The sneakers are going back, major props to the store for offering the 30-day guarantee. read more

I would highly recommend going to Road Runner if you are looking to purchase running sneakers. I had bought two pairs that did not have such a great fit when I took them out on the road and with their VIP program I had 90 days to try them out. When I went to the store to return them I was greeted by Rich who was helping another customer at the time. He noticed that I had shoes to return and asked me a couple of questions to understand what type of running I was doing. When I had told him that I was training for a marathon he offered up some tips and helpful advice. He brought me a countless number of sneakers to try on and encouraged me to give them a spin on the treadmill. He was extremely patient, informative, and wanted to ensure that I got the perfect fit and left the store happy. He asked questions along the way to help narrow down what I needed and I ended up exchanging the two pairs for sneakers that I felt confident leaving the store with. I have problem feet and i walk a lot so getting new shoes is a big deal. My daughter told me about roadrunners and it sounded like a good idea. Boy! Was it ever! From actually observing how you walk they make an excellent evaluation of which kind of shoes/inserts will benefit you the most. I knew what kinds of issues i have but actually seeing how i walk made a huge impact on me. The salesperson i had, sarah, was enormously helpful and was not letting me get just any sneakers. She spent a lot of time explaining exactly why she brought out the shoes she did and carefully checked the fit of all of them. She encouraged me to spend as much time as i needed walking with them in the store. The ones i bought felt amazing from the second i put them on. I bought two pair, one because they felt so great and the other to improve my actual walking and balance. I would definitely make them my shoe store to go to.
