Our sweetest 13 year old mix, Nemmie, took a sharp turn for the worse after a brief battle with splenic cancer. I reached out to AARP on a Friday in hopes of scheduling them over the weekend. I was able to schedule online, and Shelley reached out the following morning to confirm the appointment and provide resources and instructions. Unfortunately, Nemmie's condition rapidly declined and it was clear that she would not make it to the original appointment. I reached out the Shelley, who was able to reschedule our appointment to that same day to make sure our sweet girl could be put to rest with dignity and little to no suffering. Dr. Falcone was the vet assigned to us. She called me roughly 30 minutes prior to the appointment time, letting me know that she was in the area and could arrive before the 12pm appointment. However, she also let us know that it was completely okay if we wanted her to wait until the original appointment time so we could spend an extra few minutes with our girl. She arrived promptly at the appointment time, and was nothing short of an angel for our girl (and for us) throughout the entire experience. I can imagine that having her job would not be an easy one. However, she handled our situation with such grace, empathy, and kindness. Before the procedure started, she took the time to walk us through each step of the process. She also made sure to be as gentle as possible, while getting Nemmie as comfortable as possible before everything started. We also have another dog in the house, who was very curious about what was going on. Dr. Falcone was so sweet to him as well, and let him sniff her, give licks, and be all up in her business prior to the procedure starting. She also did not rush us at any point in the slightest, and gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye to our sweet girl. Once the procedure had finished and Nemmie was no longer with us, again, Dr. Falcone let us have as much time as wanted to say our final goodbyes. She also allowed me the privilege of lifting my girl onto the stretcher, covering her with a blanket, and helping carry her out of our house and to Dr. Falcone's car for transportation to the crematorium. One small little touch that I'll forever remember. She was also very clear that there are two options for having your dog's ashes returned to you: either having them shipped to the vet, or shipped directly to your home. AARP's services, quality of care, and empathy for their clients & their pets are truly second to none. The opportunity to have been able to put our girl to rest in the comfort of her lifelong home while surrounded by love and comfort, is truly something that you can't put a price on. When your inevitable duty as a pet parent to see your pet off to the Rainbow Bridge comes, I can't recommend using All About Restful Pets enough. They truly are the best at what they do, and make the worst day of your life just a little bit better.

Noticing our girl's arthritis was getting worse, and the light in her eyes was not what it once was, we decided it was time to let our girl rest in peace. After much research/phone calls, we decided on Peaceful Passing to come to our home. We had to schedule about a week and a half out (quite daunting to know a date was coming), and we took care of payment in advance. The day of, they called us asking how we would like to remit payment (ugh). I made flower leis for our girl and my toddler son to wear, as we wanted to have her collar, and we waited for the call that the Dr was about 10 min out...then I broke down. After the Dr came, and she was at peace, we spent some time with her saying goodbye. She was taken with her blanket she was on, and we requested for it back. When it came time to pick her up, there was no blanket (I realized when I got home). I called, and they said they would look into it. A couple days later, they said it's ready to be picked up and they found it; I got it, and it smelled strong like Tide...which we don't use. After my mind went crazy with assumptions, I called them asking for an explanation; the blanket was washed because of bodily fluids, and they sent it home with another family! I was so sad that it didn't have her smell anymore, and that they mixed that up, and didn't tell me. My trust for them really went out the window with this ending...and wasn't really impressed with their presentation (we got a white gift bag, no writing, and a tin box). Dr. Morrison's approach may not be for everyone and that is ok. But what I will say is she absolutely makes this time about you and your pet. She's completely honest with her approach, what to expect during the night and what you may help with during the process. Dr. Morrison really eases you into the moments, tells you to tell her your pace and is considerate of your heartbreak. After it was done, she gave us all the time in the world to grieve and say our goodbyes. We took an hour and not one word from Dr. Morrison because she knew we needed that time. She stepped away during that time and just told us to come get her when we're ready She also tells us to be completely honest with her during this process; the pace, the things we may want like paw print or fur, at the end she wraps your pet in a warm blanket with a pillow a stuffy and a pink boa. We kindly said the boa didn't really reflect our girl and she immediately understood and took it off. It didn't take away from our grief or the moment because you know everything she does is to try and help. I cannot recommend her services more and I'm without a doubt convinced that there is a reserved seat in heaven for Dr. Morrison because of what she does for families everyday and the peace she brought us will always be appreciated.

Eight days. That's how long our mini horse, Hank, went without passing a single pile of manure. On…read moreday eight, Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center told us it was time to put him down if we weren't going to operate. We took him home instead. Here's the part that still keeps me up at night: Hank never should have made it that far. At the 48-hour mark -- when standard care calls for a laxative on an impacted horse -- they did nothing. Why? Because we asked for a cost breakdown. That was enough for them to assume we had "money issues" and stop short of giving our horse the treatment he needed. That's our legal right in Arizona, a written treatment plan, but it was refused and used against us. Instead of doing everything possible for Hank, they sent my husband home with meds, wheeled the x-ray machine back out of the room not even offering an x-ray anymore, and made comments about our finances. A few days later, Hank ended up in ICU, where they billed us another $3,800 on top of the $1,000 we already paid for IV and drugs. Meanwhile, the pressure to do surgery was nonstop -- even knowing minis only have about a 50% survival rate post op. So we made the hardest decision yet: we took Hank home. We refused to let his story end there. For 27 hours straight, we did everything we could think of. We walked him every single hour through the night. We massaged his belly, worked his legs to his tummy, rubbed pressure points including the one under his tail, gave mineral oil in applesauce, and even loaded him in a trailer to "drive like a bat out of hell," just like an old-school vet advised. We refused to give up when everyone else already had. And then, on day nine, the miracle happened. At almost 1 p.m., Hank passed his first manure -- a pile big enough to fill half a milk carton. By 3:35 p.m., he passed a softball-sized pile, then a baseball-sized one. After nine days of nothing, he finally showed us he still wanted to fight. He's still standing. He's still fighting. And he's still proving that sometimes, the experts aren't always right. We were laughed at, disrespected, food chomped in our ear while Dr Moyer laughed and said we wouldnt get updates if we called, and worst we were guilt-tripped by people we were paying to save him. They told us "no" to extra walks, "no" to updates, and "no" to hope unless we paid for surgery. But the truth is -- Hank's progress happened because we never gave up on him. This is a reminder to every animal owner: advocate for your animals. Ask questions. Don't let anyone make you feel small for doing what's right. And don't forget that sometimes, love and persistence are stronger than medicine. Keep praying for Hank -- my little fighter who said, "Don't give up on me just yet." Is proving why sometimes you just gotta believe P.S. we know how Dr. Moyer is a picture or it didn't happen type person, as she didn't wanna believe that he had little diarrhea on our walk on Sunday, so we took pictures of all the piles that have come out today! Hank the fighter said "that's how it's done" And thanks for calling the other providers to "warn them"... very professional. Both times my pets were in a peaceful environment with their favorite blanket and surrounded by love. I also want to add that we all hope for a "good death," but I don't believe in a "perfect death". No Compassion. No Empathy. Just hurry up and get it done so they can leave. No IV, just shove the sedative needle in one leg, not even giving the medication time to take effect, then shove the lethal needle into another leg, causing my son's dog in her weakened state to not only try to bite the doctor but caused her to lay there crying and whimpering until she was gone. My son has had his precious puppy from 5 weeks old to 16 years old. She was his world and went everywhere with him-even to work. This experience has traumatized my son, knowing his precious Roxxy suffered horribly in her last moments. Worse yet, my son was made to carry his lifeless dog out to their truck to put her in a body bag. No Stretcher. No Dignity. No Kindness. Totally heartless. This doctor would do better working in a slaughterhouse! He doesn't care for our beloved pets At All! It's just routine and obviously an inconvenience to him, AND we were charged nearly $1000.00 to have to experience this nightmare! I would Never EVER refer any animal lover to this doctor or facility!!!
