My wife and I were staying at the Angel Fire RV resort, and we walked across the street and enjoyed an hour and a half horseback ride. We went up into Carson Nation Forest with a great guide, Nancy. We enjoyed what was more like three friends riding our horses leisurely into the mountains, than a 'guided tour'. The horses were great - Juan, Sierra and Dollar! What a great time. read more

This was a great ride. Nancy Burch, the owner, seems truly interested in the experience more than the money. She seems to want to preserve the traditions and experience of horseback riding for the coming generations. She had a wide range of horses to suit diverse rider sizes and experience levels. Mrs. Burch personally selected the horse for each rider to provide a safe and challenging/relaxing ride, based on each riders skill level and personality. On our ride, we encountered great scenery including meadows and forests, wildflowers and pine trees. We encountered wild life from prairie dogs and birds to mule deer, and even a large herd of elk. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly. I recommend Road Runner. Mrs. Burch offers a great ride, a glimpse into the past and, if you listen closely, a few lessons for the future. read more

The tour was overbooked, way too many people. It took 30-45 min to get 21 of us riders on horses. I've gone horseback riding many places and never been in a group this size. It seemed unmanageable for staff and felt chaotic. Nancy was harsh, rude and yelled at us to drink water on the first stop on the tour. It was awkward. I think I know when I need to drink water. It was only an hour ride. She yelled at my kid for not being able to get her horse going. I've seen much more patient and helpful guides. It embarrassed my daughter greatly in front of all the other riders. Nancy and the number of people on the tour ruined it for us. Felt like we were in a class with a mean teacher having a bad day who cared about getting more money instead of giving others a quiet peaceful horseback tour. The two guys who were staff were great and we wished we were just with them instead of Nancy. read more

Nancy and her crew were awesome! Our family (6) took the two hour High Country horseback riding tour today (we are not beginners but the beginners from other groups & families seemed to fare very well). Nancy greeted us with her friendly charm. They matched us well with our horses before beginning the trip. The horses were well trained. The ride up into the pine and aspen forests and meadows by the border of Kit Carson National Forest was epic. Noland and Chuma were our trail guides and they were excellent, safe, and fun. We had the best time doing horseback riding! My schools habitat for humanity club went here while on our trip and they were all so lovely! Bill (often referred to as "Handsome Bill") was an excellent guide through the trails. He always made sure everyone was set and riding correctly. He also made sure everyone got pictures riding and just made the overall experience that much more enjoyable! Ivy was also a GREAT leader while riding and everyone was so friendly. Chuma made sure the horses were saddled for us and helped us all get on! He was lovely! Nancy was also so great and was very attentive! We were all beginners and everyone made our experience so easy! Went on a trail ride in the summer of 2021. It was a big, big hassle getting scheduled. We had reservations, but when we arrived for our reservation they didn't have enough horses and had to reschedule us. We were rescheduled for the next morning, and when we arrived they weren't ready for us, but did eventually get us out on our ride. The guide was fabulous, but the way the business was run was pretty bad. Additionally, the animals were not taken care of very well. They appeared to be well fed, but not groomed well, or at all. Hoofs were not picked, and saddles were put on the horses who had mud crusted on them, which could lead to sores. Additionally, we saw a donkey that broke our hearts, his hooves needed to be tended to and he just looked neglected. If you are an animal lover, and especially a horse lover, I would not recommend coming here. read more

We were driving through town and decided to take a ride. We walked in to a cozy business where Nancy was. Nancy was polite and warm. She welcomed us and happily got us on a horse within the hour! Reasonable pricing for a beautiful tour. My daughter and I shared a horse, she is 4 years old. My husband rode next to us. Our guide was Eloy and he was just as pleasant as Nancy. To be honest, all the workers were very friendly. They had a step up for us to climb onto our horse, Buffalo. Buffalo was a beautiful clydesdale horse, very calm. The two horses our family rode were calm and followed our direction. I would recommend asking for a pack to attach to the saddle where you can put your phone, keys, water and a snack if needed. Eloy was very generous and when we talked about my husband and I's recent wedding he made the experience special. Eloy took our pictures on top of the horses and knew the best spot to get a great background. We rode for an hour and then headed back. It was a beautiful day out. Wow!!! Best trail ride ever!!! The horses are beautiful and obviously very well cared for. One of the guys in our party rode a black Percheron! HUGE horse!!. Nancy, the owner, is a doll - very helpful and welcoming. She was very hands-on while the cowboys got everyone in our party saddled up. They all paid a lot of attention to safety and instructing us all on handling the horses. And made sure we were all comfortable. Then we spent two hours riding through gorgeous mountains. Sometimes on a trail and sometimes just crossing the forest floor. This was NOT your typical nose to tail plod along ride. The cowboys stopped us along the way to tell us a bit of the history of the area, to get some water and even to have our photos taken by the cowboys. Everyone was so friendly, kind and careful for our safety and enjoyment. We highly recommend taking a trail ride with Roadrunner Tours - winter or summer. read more

I am honestly shocked that this business has any positive reviews at all. Poor planning, misinformation, rude management (to customers & staff), chaotic procedures, no safety precautions... I am a local in Taos County and wanted to take visiting family on a horse ride. I have been w/other outfitters and had a pleasant experience. Based on reviews and location of Roadrunner Tours, I chose this outfitter for our next experience. It was a whirlwind of poor encounters from the beginning. 1. I made a reservation for the High Meadows Tour: A four-hour ride in the Carson National Forest, the High Meadows tour follows a gorgeous trail up to the high meadows above Angel Fire where our guests can enjoy a mountain-top lunch. Note it says " enjoy a mountain-top lunch." It NEVER STATES YOU HAVE TO BRING YOUR OWN. I spoke with the owner twice on the phone, and she never mentioned the fact that we should pack our own lunch. The owner was thoroughly upset when we arrived "unprepared." I went back over the website multiple times trying to figure out if I missed it. This was all I found: PROCEDURES: Please arrive Half Hour prior to your Appointment / Please wear proper attire / Bring water for your ride. / Customary Tip for our Guides (approx. 18-20%) 2. NEXT- we go to the corrals loaded with apples and one lunchable (to share btw 4 ppl) she provided and our bottles of water. We stood around with no direction. She began yelling at the staff, openly berating them for their choices in horses for ride, moving horses, and having two novice riders with zero experience climb on a horse with no instruction or safety explanations. 3. THEN THE GUIDE- the guide was experienced and kind, but again, gave no effort in providing tips or training to the new riders until we were 10-15 minutes down the trail. They were somewhat aware of our morning experience with management and continued to gripe about said management the entire trip. It is beautiful scenery and a lovely area to explore, BUT I had to help my family and worry about them riding all while needlessly hungry and listening to the expert complain about life, work, and love. 4. CHAOS BACK AT THE CORRAL- when we returned, another ride was preparing to leave. The staff again argued right in front of us about who "had to take this one." There were horses and people (including children) everywhere. I was uncomfortable pulling 5 more horses in while kids were mounting up, so I asked where we should go. Can you guess? Yes, they stuffed us right in there with the other families and children. We were literally leg to leg. Horses were moving back and forth and side to side. If one had gotten spooked, many things could have gone wrong and untold injuries could have occurred. I will never go back or subject anyone to such a liability. read more

The weather, the surroundings, delightful riders, well trained and healthy horses with wonderful dispositions and not the least of which was Nancy's savvy. Wow, where to start. This was a terrible tour front to back. Poor management, no instruction for new riders, and no contingency plan for the accident we experienced. One of our family members was thrown from her horse when spooked by a person who appeared unexpectedly on the trail. This was not the fault of the tour company, but there was no effort by the undermanned staff to help when the accident occurred. We were stunned that no one tried to assess her injuries or even ask if she was OK. Thankfully, she didn't have any serious injuries beyond getting the wind knocked out and some cuts and abrasions. This place is downright dangerous and I'm honestly surprised they've stayed in business for so long. Definitely not worth the considerable risk. read more

Sleigh ride is very short and does not go anywhere very scenic. We were very disappointed overall, even having two people in our group that had never been on a sleigh ride. Hot cocoa tasted like it was made in the morning and never stirred again, the cookies were just plain tin type cookies. The sleigh ride goes on a wooded trail for about 15 minutes or so and then stops for 20 minutes and goes back the same way. The stop area is in a wooded area and pretty when snowy but nothing that will wow anyone. The dinner was decent but overpriced, they brought one roll a person and the salad is sitting out waiting for you. The steak was not very good and the desert (a brownie) was so hard not even my kids would eat it. I will say the trail bosses were super nice and they have lots of other horseback adventures besides the one we did. read more

We went on a sleigh ride Christmas day & it was not worth the money. Sleighs are worn down, ride is not that far and customers were given old school hot chocolate (that tasted terrible) and dollar store cookies to pass out to the other customers. Pretty sure one of the drivers had had a few too many drinks and it was only 10 something in the morning. We had watched a news video on YouTube and our ride was nothing like that. Don't go near this company - it's really poorly run. They forgot to show up for our sleigh ride, despite us calling them several times (and paid) before hand. AFTER the meeting time, and after ANOTHER call, they called us back and told us the tour would be a one hour wagon tour around town, rather than a two hour sleigh ride through the woods + sledding. They did offer a discount, but were rude about it, so we opted to get a full refund. The refund was promised but still hasn't happened. Really, there are much better services in the area, so don't waste your time with this outfit. read more

Went on the sleigh tour. Must first say the guides were friendly and really nice. Paid $300.00 for 5 adults and a 3yr old, 2yr old was free. Absolutely not worth it. We were told it was a 40min tour. We literally only rode in the sleigh for 5min and then stopped. Got off the sleigh to take a pic and see/feed deer. Stayed 30min. Then got back on sleigh for 5min ride back.... $300.00 to ride for a total of 10min..... Definitely overpaid for only 10 min ride!! read more

We had the best ride with Nancy of Roadrunner Tours and her beautiful horses. My son rode Dollar and I rode Pepper, incredible easy to ride horses. She has so many horses and we enjoyed just walking around looking at them all. Riding through the national forest with these gorgeous animals and our experienced guide was the highlight of our trip. I took my grandson for his first horseback ride with Nancy's Roadrunner tours. I was very impressed by the horses-ours was very cooperative and easy to handle, but so we're all the horses on the ride. The wranglers knew how to make us comfortable since we were sharing a saddle. With all the memories we had during our Taos and Angel Fire, NM vacation, Roadrunner Tours was the worst experience my wife and I had on our winter vacation--their brochure promises a two-hour horse drawn sleigh ride in the woods, and served hot-coco at mid-point. What we received for our $100.00 ($50.00 per/person) was a forty-five minute drag through a pasture of horse-crap! Yes, there was more horse-crap on the ground than snow, and the smell was very offensive we could not enjoy 'the experience' of our forty-five sleigh ride! The tour owner/operator, in my humble opinion was a mean viper! She was very unpleasant to deal with, and upset that we 'dared' to complain about the poor service and the misrepresentation. In my humble opinion, do not waste your time with this tour operator--and find someone who will provide a tour worth your time. read more
