Right after we checked out of the hotel on our last day in Santa Cruz, we found ourselves stranded in the parking lot! It seemed that the battery had died! After trouble shooting several times, the reality was that we weren't going anywhere! Finally, Joe K called his 21st Century Insurance, for their roadside assistance help line. After a lengthy process of exchanging information, we were told that it would be about an hour before someone could come out. At least we were parked in the lot that had a beautiful view of the ocean. Fortunately, the wait for help didn't take long at all! A nice man pulled up next to us in his own car. (I was expecting a tow truck). He immediately brought out his battery tester/charger. It turned out the battery was indeed on it's last leg. This was unexpected since the battery was not that old, so Joe was sure something more mechanically serious would be the problem! In only a few minutes flat, the pick up started right up, and we were back on the road to a nearby auto parts store to reluctantly purchase a new battery. Very rude, unprofessional service, especially the person who answers the calls. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone. The only reason I went with them was because my insurance company directed me to them. I don't understand why they can't provide an estimate on when assistance would be available. On a week day around 11 am when there is no traffic near by, I was told they can't provide an estimate for arrival due to traffic around. There are enough maps and services to provide an estimate on how long it would take to reach a destination based on traffic conditions. When I insisted on providing an approximate estimate, I was told that the driver would call me when they arrive - which didn't make sense to me at all. I really hate to leave a poor rating/review for a service company that is meant to help people in a difficult situation requiring assistance. Very rude. He was curt all the time, after waiting for 90 minutes he sent a text that was canceling because he could not see us in the parking lot. Had to call him back (we could see him). Very rude all the interaction. Because the jumpstart didn't work, he was complaining that we were turning the car off, after we showed we didn't, he said that it was probably because we didn't put gas (the tank was full). He just left blaming us for the car malfunction and telling us to call a town car. Yes, we need to tow the car, but the situation is already stressing, and you don't need a rude condescending and unknowable person to be curt. read more

I just had the worst road side service experience Used their agro tool to pin point my location. Used their notes section to let them know I was west bound on 84, 50 feet before university ave. (This is a bridge btw, and university is the last light going east, first light going west) I got a 75 minute ETA, waited. The tech shows up, east bound and calls me scolding me, that they should have dispatched him from the east bay, not the peninsula. - which is out of my control Rationale- he would have to drive across the bridge and then back. - I ask him, wouldn't someone from the other side have to drive here, then back? He asked me to crawl my vehicle to the light, with flat tire. Ok, normally I would do that. But in this case, I'm unable to do that. The driver gets the the light, makes a u-turn and sits in his car, 50 feet in front of us and refuses to back up. I offer to borrow the jack, and do all the work, he refuses. Calls dispatch, then decides I have to pay more because he's wasting time and has to go to other calls. After 45 minutes of sitting there doing nothing except complaining. read more

DO NOT USE. USAA scheduled them to come change a flat tire. The eta was 60-90 minutes. 120 minutes later I am still waiting and call and the person who answered (the owner I believe name Rick) informs us that it's about an hour. Back and forth with him and USAA we finally ubered to get a portable air pump and fill our tire so we could limp to a nearby tire place before they closed. 4 hours of unnecessary misery made worse by a company who clearly put us low priority for a flat to get paid more for towing and other services. I have Allstate Roadside Service and I usually brace myself for a very long wait which in this case was ok because I happen to notice the flat tire as I was trying to leave the house. I got a text within minutes of putting in my request, the wait was a little over an hour which was not bad. Daniel showed up at the very early end of the time window given which was great! He checks things out and as we both come to find, this newer car does not come with a spare....figures. Daniel gets out all his tools and plugs the tire and puts everything back together.....Daniel was very friendly, professional and got my car back up and ready to get back on the road fast! The driver took 165 minutes to arrive (original estimate was 90 minutes) for a car lockout request. However, this alone wouldn't merit a 1-star review, since I know there was traffic in the area. The biggest disappointment was the customer service. When I called Roadside 24 HR Service to check in after 100 minutes had passed with no word, the male agent was extremely rude and belittling. Rick is the rudest person I have ever spoke to in my life. I can't believe this is a business. If there wasn't a law against recording calls in CA i would've recorded. He was absolutely rude, dismissive, told my father he was getting mad, wouldn't tell us how much longer it would be (we called AFTER the 75 minute mark), wouldn't tell us where the driver was. The dispatcher (who apparently is also the owner) was insanely rude over the phone. State Farm connected me with them and the dispatcher called because they needed an exact address. A corner street isn't exact enough for them apparently. Which is fine, I walked out to get the exact address and gave it to him (I may have been slightly snarky). Told him it was slightly insane that They couldn't find the street corner. He then began to question my initial directions. I hung up the phone since he had all the information he needed and I'm not going to sit there and be berated. He called me back seconds later insisting that I THANK HIM for getting the correct info and that he was sorry that I got offended. I told him he was bad at apologizing. I've never dealt with worse customer service from a tow company. I work in insurance and most of them are very polite and useful. I dislike leaving bad reviews, but I feel so strongly that I didn't even wait for the guy to jump my car to leave a review. I utilized GWC Warranty to get an unlock and jump service for my dead battery. They contacted this company. Their response time was fine, about 45 minutes, but their service was awful. The person who called me hung up on me as I tried giving directions to the car. The driver pulled away on me as I tried giving directions to the car. He then gestured rudely to me once in the lot for me to walk his car to mine. Once at my car, he gave maybe a minute of effort in trying to open the interior handle (which wouldn't unlock the car anyway), and said he wasn't able to unlock the physical switch (despite not trying). He told me someone had tried to break into my car three times, despite me telling him each time the handle had been broken for months before this lockout. He refused to open the hood with his hook (as has been done by two drivers in the past with this issue), citing liability. In all, he was at my car for less than five minutes and told me to just call back the GWC Warranty number. read more

If you are able to choose a different company, do it. The only reason they get business is because that choice is removed, by working with insurance companies or other third parties. I have only good comments for the service I received from Esmeralda. I went down to my vehicle only to discover a dead battery so I called my Roadside Assistance team with Allstate and they connected me in minutes to this company. In minutes Esmeralda called to tell me her ETA and she arrived 20 minutes earlier than projected by the first caller. She was not only able to assess and charge my battery but tested and it had a dead cell so lucky for me she had a replacement in her vehicle and was able to install the new battery, warranty included - all in less than 30 minutes. Esmeralda did a great job and was efficient and personable. I will use this service again if needed. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE ! I was locked out of my car and matched with them through my insurance. I got a notification the driver was en route but the waiting time kept going up. I called to try and get an accurate ETA and was immediately spoken to in the rudest tone. The man on the phone treated me as if I was stupid for even asking such a thing, and then told me he doesn't watch his drivers as they drive so no he couldnt give me a more accurate ETA. Costco insurance company have me used this service because my battery died. I waited over one hour and 35 minutes....slooow. I waited in the cold..here comes this guy Rick said I should be so happy because it is a wonderful day. He base in San Carlos, I was in Palo Alto...no excuses for him to take so long. I called Costco road service before, was only 10 minuets wait. I asked him wait a minute so I can be sure my car really works. He ran off 7 minuets after arrival. This company is unprofessional. They answer the phone with "Hello", no business name announced, when I asked if this is a business the response is "who are you trying to reach". The dispatcher is rude. I waited over two hours for someone to come to me, when I called to ask what was going on, they said someone is one their way, they'll be there soon. After another 30 minutes I called my insurance company to intervene. The tow company said they were stuck in traffic. I checked there, was no traffic in the middle of the afternoon and when the representative finally showed (2.5 hours later) she said she was late because the original person dispatched to me got lost and was in a different area. So I just had to write a quick review on this business. I was on the peninsula with my wife at a party, and I wont go into the embarrassing details, but somehow managed to lock myself out of my Acura MDX with my engine running. I called a towing service, but it was late night and the 1 hour wait time was going to be an issue. I found Roadside 24 Hr on my yelp iphone application and they were able to come right away as they were down the street. It was like they were in the same parking lot almost. 10 Minute wait, and then 5 minutes I was in my car and on my way, I think that paying for Rick to bail me out was the longest thing about the emergency. Before I knew it I was on the road again. I think that I was lucky to find them when I did, faster and cost less than the tow truck, not sure if/when I will need them again, but when I do Roadside 24 Hr will get the call. read more
