One box marked "FRAGILE" had pieces broken within it.

Of all my experiences with moving companies (including 4 interstate moves) my experience with Roadway Van Lines has been the absolute worst by far. And in fairness, it wasn't all bad - the care and concern, and professionalism, that the movers exhibited during the pickup in D.C. was a far cry, and almost a "cover" for the horrendous unprofessionalism and chaotic delivery of the local crew in Georgia. During the planning of the move, in every conversation with the (I'm assuming her title is) Moving Coordinator, I was assured that this move would be stress-free, convenient for me, and worth the over $4,000 price tag. The company was responsive, and informative when I had questions, and seemingly answered everything in the affirmative - before I signed the contract. In retrospect, maybe that was an "if it's too good to be true..." red flag. The pickup in DC went smoothly, and without a hitch - so much so, that during the move out I left briefly to run to an ATM to get cash for tips for the 3 movers! While I had meticulously packed and labeled everything (I am VERY thorough when it comes to such things) they went above and beyond in securing my belongings and even re-boxing and re-taping things just to ensure it all would survive the two weeks between pickup and delivery. Fast forward to the "first available day for delivery". A day that I indicated would be the first day they would be able to deliver. I received a call (from a caller with "No Caller ID") that didn't sound like a professional moving company that I had already paid $2,000. When we spoke I inquired about the delivery - he said between 1-4 days. All good, although I do travel out of state for work, I was prepared to adjust my schedule to accommodate the delivery. The day of delivery, I was given a delivery time between 8am - 12pm. I worked from home that day with the intention of taking my business trip in the late afternoon/early evening. After waiting a few hours, I called dispatch (two numbers that are NEVER answered but go directly to someone's voicemail) and was not able to get anyone to tell me when the shipment would arrive. When I finally received a callback, I was told that the delivery would now be between 4pm - 8pm. Close to 6pm, the very unprofessional driver called to let me know that he would come "sometime tomorrow" because his day ends at 8pm. So, an entire day has passed - a day that I needed to be out of state for work, and the following day I am mandated to be in D.C. I arranged for a local friend to work from my home the next day so that she could receive the delivery. Upon arrival the driver insisted that she pay him cash or a money order for the remaining $2000. I was able to speak with her with the driver, who refused to take the payment via Zelle (the way in which the first half was paid) or CashApp. And so I had to have a friend go to a bank to pull funds out. The driver had the nerve to inform me that he will charge an additional $150/hour for him to have to wait - I guess he forgot he inconvenienced me for an entire day. Everything I shipped was thrown into the living room. Boxes that were clearly marked "FRAGILE" had been crushed, and just thrown into the living room. Wardrobe boxes marked for each bedroom - left in the living room. There was no intention to place my belonging in the rooms that I indicated. And when my friend who received the delivery asked about it - the response was "it's not in the contract". Whether that be true or not, the Moving Coordinator endured that my belongings would be placed where I indicated. In retrospect it seems that she would have agreed to anything to make the sale. To recommend that no one ever use this company would be an understatement. I don't know what questions I could have asked that would have given me cause for concern, but their service model is disjointed at best. Unempathetic to customer's needs, adherence to their own contracted service, and misleading in touting all its accreditations at worst. PLEASE be sure to read the "owner''s" response. And their response to ALL other reviews. Trash service. Trash company. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!

The knife the rude mover left behind. Glad my niece didn't stumble upon it.

When I tell you I have not had a worst moving experience that is saying something because I have moved a lot. I loved from dc to Tampa. I knew something was up because they showed up in a U haul. Still, they were very professional. They charged an additional fee because they had to roll the wagon extra steps but still it seemed ok and they seemed professional. The problem and excuses came with delivery. The rental truck broke down and they had to work with Budget to get a new one. It went from possibly tuesday to Friday evening. Saturday morning they called and said they were downstairs. It was that abrupt. I paid with credit card when they picked up and a final payment was due which the contract said could be made with a cc. The guy says, only cash or money order. O I get ready to go to the store. He then asked to use my brand new bathroom and based on what I heard, it was bad. They unload half my stuff and say they are done. I'm like there is more. They can't figure it out. I tell them I had more boxes and they tell me there are no more and they must be at the warehouse. I don't care where they are, find them and deliver them! They start trying to give me other people's stuff--an ottoman, a machete, a mattress. JUST GIVE ME MY STUFF! I had to pick out my own mattress off of the truck. I hope I picked out the right one. I had to keep track because they would dig around on the truck and come back with one more thing and say they were done. It was so ridiculous and unprofessional. Them trying to put my bed together was a joke! They couldn't figure it out and I am still not sure that it was done correctly based on the conversation I overheard. The crew that loaded the truck was so professional. The crew that delivered my items was awful. I will never use Roadway Van-lines again. My mind is blown.

Find my chair, I paid you $5000.00 And you want to give me $12.00 You should be out of business. Who looses a chair. YOU ARE HORRIBLE. Most if my white furniture was scratch. They don't care about the customer. They ask for the money before they start unloading your furniture..

Highly recommend. We moved with Roadway van lines to help us pack and moved to CA . The two guys (I believe their names were Carlos and Marvin ) called as they were on their way to our apartment and arrived right on time!Helped me move from my apartment in just two and half hours. Two guys showed up and were able to help finish packing and putting my things together.

That was a big mistake. This time I went right to Doyle. You get what you pay for, my friends. Ryan, the owner, was very responsive and we made an appointment to do a video walk-through of our condo. We did the walk-through, he asked a lot of questions and then he promptly sent an estimate. We have a lot of things so it took five guys and two trucks. The crew leader contacted me the day before to confirm the details and they showed up promptly the day of. They were incredibly friendly, fun, and energetic the entire time. And very polite. They treated all of our things very well and didn't have a problem moving any of the weird odds and ends we couldn't find a way to pack. When we arrived they put everything in the new house where we wanted it and even though we could tell they were suffering from the extreme heat and the weight and amount of our things, they never lagged or complained. They put the beds back together quickly and correctly as well as the dining room table. I'd be in hospital if I had to move all my stuff. At the end, the crew leader went over the paperwork, explained all the final charges line-by-line, and took payment. Very professional. We could not be happier. They were a great crew of guys. Ryan has a great company and I couldn't recommend them more.

I strongly advise anyone considering Doyle Moving Services to review their contract carefully, as…read moreit contains highly predatory and legally questionable clauses for Maryland consumers. Most concerning is the inclusion of a "Confession of Judgment" clause. This aggressive legal tactic attempts to strip consumers of their right to due process in court, and it has been explicitly illegal in Maryland consumer contracts since 2020. Furthermore, their opening paragraph states they "in no event function... as an interstate or intrastate common carrier." This is a massive red flag, as it appears to be a deliberate loophole to dodge the state's mandatory cargo insurance and liability protections that legitimate movers are required to carry. Upon requesting that Doyle strike these clauses from their contract, they refused to do so, because they "do over 1,000 moves a year and send the same contract to every customer we service." Unfortunately, that contract contains illegal and predatory language.

I worked with a different moving company 2 years ago that left me scarred for life with how rude and unprofessional they were. I ended up having to finish the job myself (moving my giant couch up four flights of stairs), so when I knew I was moving again, I did my due diligence and sought out a few quotes. Another company quoted me almost $800 and required a 3 hour minimum for the job!! $800 seemed steep and I knew the job wouldn't take that long... Along came Bookstore Movers who quoted me a reasonable $470 minimum for two hours of work and a maximum of $680 for 3.5 hours of work (price breakdown: $140 per hour with 2 hour min. plus a $190 truck fee). I received a quote within a few hours of requesting it. There was no deposit required and the date was booked. I received detailed emails leading up to the move about FAQs, tips for a seamless move, and the names of my crew including contact info for the crew lead. Abdul (crew lead), Niiwayo "Y.O", and Milly were SO fast and friendly. They wrapped every single item with care in drop cloths and got to moving immediately. Despite the 90 degree heat and a total of five flights of stairs, the job was finished in 2 hours. I was SO impressed. I was so traumatized by my last move that I literally had to walk away while they moved the couch in but before I knew it, I got a text from my boyfriend telling me they had fit it through the door and our living room was all set up. I was so relieved and happy to work with them. If and when we move again, (hopefully not anytime soon, lol), I will 100% be contacting Bookstore Movers... and you should too!

Having moved 9 times over the past 40 years, my wife and I have considerable experience with movers…read moreand moving companies. I found the staff / office members at Von Paris who I spoke to be mostly responsive and professional. I had numerous interactions with them, because the crew members who actually packed and moved us were lousy. All nice folks, but the crew members who performed the packing, loading and moving did so with far less care and proficiency than ANY of our prior 8 movers. The worst we've had out of 9 different moving crews. Maybe Von Paris has better teams of movers. In my experience, the performance of the crew chief determines how well the crew performs. For our 3 day move the crew chief's role seemed to be limited to delivering and picking up trucks --- we barely saw or spoke with him and never saw him provide any supervision. Absent on-site leadership for 3 days, the crew members worked at a slow pace, with little urgency. Long lunches --- that we brought in for them on 3 separate days. Packing of our household items was very random and inconsistent --- lots of paper wrapped around items that were not fragile; while a number of fragile items were poorly protected, some even placed at the bottom of boxes. While the randomly poor packing suggests a possible lack of training, it seems more likely a lack of caring. Von Paris did honor our claim to repair or replace 7 items we submitted as damaged. Meanwhile, our contract required us to submit our total damages within 2 weeks ---- and we only learned of other damaged items after that point. Most significantly and important to be aware of --- I brought to management's attention a major fabrication in the bill of laden. At the end of the move I was provided a "moving contract" to sign ....that had NO entries for the number of containers that were packed. All were empty. A few days later I asked Von Paris to explain how they determined the number of size of the boxes/containers they had packed and for which I was billed. They sent me a copy of the "moving contract" I had signed after delivery ---- but with numbers for the boxes/containers entered where none had been entered when I was asked to sign. Why does this matter? They billed me to pack the very same number of boxes / containers they had used for their original estimate. Meanwhile, to reduce that cost my wife and I spent a month packing and moving MANY boxes, knowing that by doing so we would reduce the number of boxes we would pay Von Paris to pack. Despite that, Von Paris fabricated the number of boxes they packed, later entered those numbers on a contract I had already signed, and then billed me for more containers and packing than they performed. In bringing this to Von Paris's attention I received a modest admission this was a departure from their procedure, but there was no acceptance of the vastly lower number of boxes I counted them as having packed. Instead, they represented they "uncovered the actual number" of boxes they packed - lower than the fabricated number they billed me for - but appreciably higher than what I counted. I was billed for their new number. Being so grateful to no longer have to deal with this company, I resigned myself to move on, while also committing myself to sharing this experience for others to be aware of. Long story short: you are not hiring the people who are running Von Paris, but the crew members they send to actually pack and move your stuff. If you hire Von Paris as a moving company, I wish you better luck than we had with the crew that packed and moved our stuff.

Mark McMahan, a 5th generation family member came to my house and did a very thorough walk-through. I'm not sure how, but he was able to closely estimate the manpower and time it would take to move all that I pointed out and told him I was taking to my new place. On moving day 5 polite and professional men arrived at my house right on time. They worked well as a team and seemed to know exactly what each of them would get to work on, ie: one guy put together all the special hanging clothes storage boxes, one started to break down beds etc. They began at 8:30am sharp and I believe they did not finish until about 5:30pm taking only 2 brief 10 min. breaks. When we arrived at the new place, I noticed they took each hanging clothes box to the specific closets which I designated but did not open each box and actually hang the clothes. When I mentioned that I thought the estimator, Mark had said they hang clothes in the closets, they began to open all the special boxes and hang my clothes. I was curious and asked one of the guys what they normally do and he said they are only required to leave the boxes in the correct closets. Without saying a word, these guys began opening all boxes and actually hanging the clothes in closets. When I realized that was not what they ordinarily do and told them it wasn't necessary and that I'm sure I misunderstood the estimator, they were quick to say "we can do it, we can do it, no problem at all" it was obvious this crew went the extra mile! They were a pleasure to deal with, in fact so much that I felt compelled to write my 1st review EVER on Yelp!! I signed a contract stating the possibility of it taking longer than the estimated time and was quite pleased that the estimate was right on.
