First things first: be prepared to spend some money…read more Second: do not expect fine dining. You can spend the same amount at places like Ruth's Chris, Sullivan's, or Angus Barn and get nicer décor and a more polished atmosphere. If you come to Beefmastor Inn expecting an upscale experience, you'll likely be disappointed -- and you'll probably complain about the tight seating, the long wait, the plastic tablecloths, or the iceberg lettuce. That said, Beefmastor has a charm that's hard to deny -- even if it can feel off-putting at first. The place is small and spartan. On busy nights, you will wait. You might end up seated near the bathroom. It's not intimate, and it's not glamorous. What it is, however, is the polar opposite of pretentious. Every inch of the place feels like old-school North Carolina: cinderblock walls, checkered plastic tablecloths, cottage cheese and raisins on the salad bar. The food is straightforward and unembellished. To be honest, I've had better steaks. I ordered the 10 oz., and it was a bit inconsistent -- velvety in parts, gristly in others, and slightly under-seasoned. But what I appreciated most was the feeling of stepping into a time machine. It felt like a snapshot of a different era -- before towns like Wilson faded and before chain restaurants took over every strip mall. Beefmastor Inn isn't perfect. My meal wasn't perfect. The service wasn't perfect. And it's not cheap. Still, I genuinely enjoyed the experience, and I think it's worth visiting at least once. If you have boomer family members, I can almost guarantee they'll absolutely love it.

She was so friendly and helpful. They had a March special on drinks and I decided to have The Pot of Gold which was 1800 coconut tequila, grand marnier, and pineapple juice.. it wasn't too sweet.. it was so good! I really think they should add it to their drink list The Swiss cheeseburger, seasoned veggies, hamburger steak were all so very very good! Atmosphere was relaxing and fun. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I had a 4oz filet. I asked for rare. Was cooked more blue, but I was happy with that. No offer of steak sauce. Fine with me because I prefer salt and butter. Baked potato was actually great! Mac and cheese was not anything to write home about. Salad was huge - took it back to my hotel. Haggerty's was busy in a small-ish town for a Thursday night. I don't drink, so no comment on any alcohol except to say the Cosmo looking drinks at a table nearby looked great in frosty glasses. There were a few large groups lingering and chatting. Several other single eaters at the bar who seemed happy. Some family style meals going on - groups of 4 or 5. Overall, I'd say this is good spot to go for a steak if you're craving one. I'd return.

Me and my dad were seeking a solid dinner in Washington, NC, and Ribeyes looked promising, so we…read moredecided to try it. It was fairly good! The restaurant has a very old southern steakhouse theme to it, with a closed in feel. It is fairly small, but that's alright. The salad bar is ok. It is not a large selection. The lettuce itself was good quality, but the ranch was 100% bottled. Other toppings were just alright, nothing special. My dad got the small portion ribeye, and I got the 6oz filet. The ribeyes all have definite prices, while the filets have "market price" next to them. This can be an easy way to rip people off, because my filet was way too expensive for what it was. $45 for just a standard filet. But despite this price, both of the steaks were pretty good! They both had good flavor, and were cooked at a nice medium rare. For sides, they only serve sweet potato, baked potato, or a twice baked potato. My dad's twice baked was good he said, and my potato was good as well. It didn't have an earthy flavor like some do, which I liked. They also serve a slice of toast, which was good, but needs butter :). If you want a good steak in Washington with attentive and friendly service, come to Ribeyes. Just beware of the filet prices.

Not cooked medium as requested, but well done. (Somehow I ended up with two burger roll bottoms). We knew they didn't have fries or typical sides; I had a twice baked potato and hubby had a baked sweet potato. While good, I felt like my potato was practically hollow, with a coating of cheese and bacon (see photo). They don't have an extensive menu. I considered getting the salad bar, but it was underwhelming. They had a few other sandwiches on the menu, and of course steaks. I saw a sign at the entrance featuring soup, but the temps were around 100 degrees today, so they might want to re-think that. Our server rattled off a list of beers on draft, and after we ordered, proceeded to tell us that what we wanted was out of stock. It's very dark inside, so you may need to use your phone's flashlight to read the menu. Overall, we weren't impressed, I doubt we'll return.

And downtown Suffolk is just beautiful and quaint, it feels friendly and idyllic. *Ambience: Extremely comfortable, super approachable, but also refined with lots of wood and brick, but open and airy, and lots of light. You walk in to a cocktail and bar area, with an incredible painted sign on the brick wall behind the bar, that is a total throwback. The bar is incredibly comfortable and open and warm feeling. There are hardwood tables and beautiful booths along with a private dining area in the back. Really couldn't ask for or want for a more comfortable environment. *Service: absolutely stellar, super friendly staff, our server could not have been nicer or more genuine, or had more of an "ownership attitude" as if the restaurant meant everything to her, and so did us being there. She knew everything on the menu, had great recommendations, and insured we were consistently taken care of. She truly missed nothing. Harper, the owner, came over to check on us and ensure we were enjoying ourselves. He couldn't have been nicer or kinder or more humble. Service was outstanding. *Food & Drinks: The food! The drinks! Oh man! I've been a "Yelp Elite Member" for almost 10 years and the food here at hT is near the top of all my reviews, hundreds of them. The highest quality ingredients, impeccably curated, ingeniously but simply paired, created with a true love for the art of cooking and the true joy of the consumer. This was obvious. We started with a Mainstream Manhattan and Old Fashioned from the bar. No ordinary bartender, she's a true mixologist/professional. Both drinks were excellent, no "simple syrup" used here, raw sugar cubes melted into the finest spirits, yummm! We order brussels sprouts from the appetizer menu everywhere we go and compare them. None have ever come close to our favorite, for a dozen years, until now. These were crispy on the outside, but juicy inside, flash fried to an al dente bite and finished (almost injected) with a cherry vinegar glaze that permeated every bite with sweet, tart perfection. We also started with the vibrant Camden County May Pea & Truffle Toast which was like a celebration of spring with a fresh, grilled baguette topped with fancy Italian truffle cheese (insane!), sweet tender may peas, and fresh pea shoots, all drizzled with olive oil for a fresh, earthy, and simple bite that captured the essence of this farm-to-table cuisine. For entrees we ordered the Ben Johnson's Soft Shell Crabs with remoulade and the Brown Sugar Brined Porkchop with pimp cheese, grits, and chard tomatoes with a side of hand cut fries with roast shallot mayo. Everything was stellar, no exceptions. I can honestly say this was **the best pork chop I've ever eaten, ever.** Tender, sweet, meaty and paired perfectly with the creamy cheese grits and the tang and smoke of the charred tomatoes. Ridiculously good! See my photos, too bad they don't come with "taste-o-vision", because, wow! The hand cut, skin on, double fried potatoes and roast shallot mayo were fantastic. As if that wasn't enough food, they also brought us stone ground cornbread, with a massive slab of rough salted butter, steamy, warm, soft, buttery perfection. I'm ready to go back now! *Value & Overall: I posted pictures of all menus and all prices. Their spirits and mixed drink selections from the bar are incredible. The food, service and ambience simply couldn't have been better. Prices, as you'll see, are exactly in line for what you get and an excellent value. Portions on everything were excellent and we ended up taking home quite a bit of food, which was also stellar the next day. I absolutely cannot recommend Harper's Table highly enough. This establishment, all parts of it, truly earn a five star review across the board with no exceptions. Have no hesitation, make a reservation, go, it will become an instant favorite.

The picnic plate was perfect for a small group to enjoy and the flounder fish and chips was great! The shrimp and grits were perfectly cooked and very flavorful as well! Bit of crispy brussels were a great table share for our party of three. This is a casual and comfortable location with plenty of seating. Didn't need a reservation for an early Saturday lunch, but available via Resy to secure your spot if desired. If you are looking for a cozy space to enjoy a small or large party (back large family table style available) highly recommend Harper's Table for some fresh farm to table comfort foods!
