This place was fire! They had some bomb desserts, the Kunafa was delicious and tasted authentic! Also they had the stretchy ice cream it was so cool and tasted pretty good!! When I read about Roast & Toast in Nosh I was intrigued and bookmarked it on Yelp. I suggested it to Nina for today and she was interested so we agreed to meet here for lunch. What we didn't realize was that there was road construction and how it would affect our ability to park, but park we did, on two side streets, Nina on Virginia and me on Francisco. When I walked into the restaurant Nina was seated at a 4 top, drinking a decaf cappuccino. The place is spacious, w/ lots of windows letting in natural light. I'm not sure what was there before and didn't think to ask. It's a place where you order at the counter, they give you a number, call out the number and you go up and fetch your food. Before we went to order Nina noticed a couple sitting at a nearby table whose food looked good, so she walked over and asked them what they had. They told her. I overheard breakfast sandwich and that sounded good to me. I'm not sure what the other was, but it was probably what Nina ordered, the Beef Boss. We went to the counter and ordered our sandwiches and I added a cup of black tea w/ oat milk and Stevia. The POS didn't allow me to leave a tip. The nice man at the counter told me not to worry about it, to take care of it next time but I left a cash tip in the tip jar because I don't trust myself to remember. We sat at the table w/ our drinks and after a reasonable wait the nice man brought our sandwiches to us, which we didn't expect and really appreciated. They were served on attractive square white china plates. My breakfast sandwich was two open face pieces of bread layered w/ thin scrambled egg, avocado, slices of tomato and tiny sprouts. It was accompanied by a spring mix salad w/ chopped tomatoes and black pitted olives lightly dressed w/ vinaigrette. Both the sandwich and salad were delicious and not too heavy. Sadly I didn't think to take photos. Nina's sandwich, served on Dutch Crunch, was gigantic. She took half home. Her only complaint was that there was too much mustard. She had asked for light mayonnaise and got it, but said she would ask for neither mustard nor mayonnaise next time she had it, although she added that it tasted good. She said the cappuccino was fabulous. I was facing the street so I can't report on the decor and didn't use the bathroom so I can't report on that either, but the chairs were very comfortable, attractive and easy for me to get out of. In all it was a very pleasant experience, aside from the parking and I expect the road construction will be completed by the time we return. read more

Sadly my turkey sandwich was basic as can be and way overpriced for the quality. The only thing going for it was size, assuming you want a lot of mediocre food. New coffee and sandwich shop near UC Berkeley. It was packed with students studying but the service was still timely and very kind. The portion size is very generous and the prices are great for the area. My labneh toast was really tangy and flavorful. The sahlab was a hug in a cup - sweet and nutty, just really cozy on a chilly day. The knafeh was also really tasty, cheesy, sweet, and crunchy - though not as melty as some I've had. Definitely a good dessert to share! Happy to have another go to coffee shop. read more

Just go here!! Their food is SO good and fresh, and the portions are reasonably priced (their sandwiches are easily two meals for me). The coffee is also incredible, I have dreamed about their Spanish latte, and they don't charge more for oat milk! This is also a perfect study spot, the wifi works great and the vibes are immaculate for writing a paper in one sitting. It's enough off the beaten path that it's not swarmed with university students, so thats a plus, but it does get quite busy on the weekends. There is plenty of (comfortable) seating and it's a perfect work space during the week!
