Northeastern Movers and Roadway lost my life--100 boxes (an entire crate)! These moving companies lost 100 of my 130 boxes in a move from NYC to MN last year!! Can you even imagine receiving the news that ¾ of your valuables, heirlooms, and memorabilia--including those of your recently deceased husband--are missing because the movers amazingly LOST an ENTIRE CRATE of boxes? It's heartbreaking and frustrating and financially devastating! I remain ready and willing to resolve this matter, but they have ignored my recent pleas for fair reimbursement. I had valuable furniture and they knew exactly how to package everything so nothing got damage, they disassembled the furniture so fast, each of the movers had an specific job and they were very professional. I had scheduled a move for Sunday but the movers from Rob the Mover still accidentally came on Saturday very early morning instead, likely due to an error on the part of my contact in sales. The moving team rang my phone and the doorbell multiple times, waking me up annoyingly early on Saturday due to their error. On the day of my move on Sunday, the movers came much later than they did on Saturday. I was nervous about the move because I felt they may have simply written the wrong time. Given the mistake on the prior day, I was worried they may not come at all. I called every point of contact at the company several times but did not receive a response for a half hour. Given that I had to move out that day or face a stiff penalty, this was quite stressful. I spent a lot of time packing in advance of the movers coming so it went smoothly. Because we were ahead of schedule, the 3 men that came to help me move realized it was very important to slow play, since they needed to be able to go over the 3.5 hour minimum to make more money. For a good portion of the time, 2 of them were slacking off largely because of their incentive to draw out the moving process. When we arrived at my new apartment, I was told by one of the men they almost got in an accident and one of the men had a laughably fake limp (he claimed he hurt his leg). Just to be clear, they were moving my furniture just 15 minutes away, so that's such a joke to be honest. He's a mover not a professional actor so he stayed in the moving van (but even then he only was able to maintain this fake limp just some of the time). I figured the fake injury was an effort to earn a greater tip at the end or make the move take longer in order to exceed the 3.5 hour minimum. the reality was a lot worse than that, though it makes sense why they needed to fake an injury. After most of my stuff was brought in the apartment, I was asked to sign the bill by one of the movers. Around this time, the men were being overly nice to me. For example, they gave me a lot of compliments about the apartment. I assumed this was to guilt me into giving them a larger tip. Before signing the bill, I checked to make sure I had all of my possessions, but I noticed my coffee table was missing. This was a $1,000 coffee table. It turns out that this very nice $1,000 table was broken while moving. the movers were hoping I had forgotten that I had a coffee table! My marble table top was completely shattered due to a poor job on their part. (At this point, it made sense why one of the movers needed to claim there was an accident.) To make matters worse, the team decides it's a good idea to bring up the shattered table to my apartment to show it to me. The table was unsalvageable so there was no reason to bring me the remains. In the process, the movers spilled dangerous and small shards of marble all over my floor. I was extremely paranoid that I would step on these so I had to spend a great deal of time meticulously cleaning the floor. Overall this was a remarkably terrible experience. read more

This is an update for my previous move, which I had given 5 stars. That move consisted of moving from an apartment to a house and also bringing stuff out of storage to the house. I thought that everything had gone fine, hence the 5 stars originally. A lot of the stuff was put into the garage and basement, and I could only begin moving and unpacking it all once the weather warmed up. That's when I realized that a large piece of the elliptical machine was missing. I sent them a photo of it but was told they couldn't find it. It's a large awkward shape, so it's surprising that it got misplaced somehow. Now the expensive elliptical is useless and I have to figure out some way to get rid of it. read more

So this service is reliable. Above all. They answer the phone, they text back, their workers and staff are jovial, and most importantly, their COIs are authentic. They arrived early, they packed the stuff that still needed packing, they moved my mattress down for disposal, and they rearranged the bedroom furniture as many times as I needed to be satisfied. When my daughter told me she would be moving from Queens, NY to Arlington Va. I decided to retire from being the mover and would hire a professional moving company for the first time ever. Where to begin to find a mover? It's a strenuous decision. Ask friends for referrals, Angie's list, online searches? After finally putting together a list of 5 firms, I provided each with a general list of what needed to be moved to get quotes that were based on the same parameters. Next, I requested an on-site visit for firm quotes. Three of the five provided that without any problems or expense. My daughter really liked Ed from Northeastern Movers, Inc. when he did the site visit. (I believe he is the owner.) Their reviews were mostly very positive and a search of USDOT FMCSA site showed they were the ONLY company I searched that had ZERO complaints. They were not the cheapest but were very competitive and both my daughter and I felt most comfortable with them. I spoke with Eric to finalize the deal and enjoyed our conversation one salesperson to another. As promised Brian the dispatcher called the day before the move, and I reviewed my last minute concerns. He assured me there would not be a problem. The real stars of the show were the crew that showed up when expected, led by Ramel (MEL), Travis, John Francis, and Jeff. They were all great guys that showed care and concern over our furniture and belongings. I made sure I was there at the time of the move, but the guys were so kind to my daughter who was a little overwhelmed (and sleep deprived) it would have been fine if I wasn't. It was the hottest weekend of the year so far, but they worked hard and efficiently to get everything loaded. Mel confirmed it would be him and one other guy on delivery the next day in Virginia. Mel and Travis showed up as expected and worked hard in the heat to get us unloaded in a reasonable timeframe. They figured out how to manipulate anything that to me seemed problematic. You could tell they were very experienced. They did not try to change the deal or add any last-minute charges that were not originally agreed to. Although not everything is unpacked it appears as though everything arrived in good condition. This is the worst moving experience I have ever had. Unfortunately, this previously family-owned business has been taken over by Northeastern, and they are all about sales. The process of setting up the move was easy with quick follow up, and the estimate was about half compared to others movers for a state-to-state move. The salesman discouraged me from getting insurance, stating it barely covers anything anyway, which might have warned me off if I could have afforded a standard mover. Moving out in NYC, the movers were in and out of masks continuously and frequently left the truck unattended on a NYC street. They upped my price based on my amount of items, which I am sad to say that I expected based on reviews and paid. The real problems became clear when my move was delivered after a few weeks in storage. The deliveryman from Northeastern arrived at my apartment door with no mask despite having passed numerous signs in the apartment building about the requirement. I said he needed one, and he said it was in the truck and he couldn't unload wearing it. I said he had to. I called the sales number, and they said he would be told to wear it. The deliveryman then refused to unload anything until I signed that I had received everything. He continued to be in and out of his mask and left the truck unattended on multiple occasions. As he was rushing to depart, I asked him to take the wardrobe boxes, and he said it wasn't his responsibility to take away boxes. I soon discovered that the movers/storage had broken my standing mirror, shattered holes in two plastic boxes, damaged my leather couch in two places, and damaged a handmade bookcase that is a family heirloom. Over the next weeks of unpacking, I was more shocked to discover that two of my boxes had never been delivered. One contained clothes, which are replaceable. The other contained family photos and records that can never be replaced. I contacted the movers, who claimed the belongings had never been anywhere but in the trucks and the warehouse and could not find them. While this company seemed a reliable savings at first, it is not worth saving money when the company cannot even provide the most basic requirement of a moving company - delivering your belongings. read more

I'm finally reviewing this awesome moving company. After a lot of research, and reading reviews, I chose Northeastern movers out of Brooklyn. They were very responsive and professional from the beginning to the end. The Boss Edward came out to our home on Long Island to make sure he had a spot on inventory so he could price it correctly. He did put my mind at ease. He was very professional. He cared about us and our move. I have to say I was very nervous in the beginning, it's always stressful hiring a mover. The day of the move, the movers were on time. We did have a lot of inventory. It took them a full eight hours to pack us up. We packed our own boxes, but they had to disassemble all the furniture. They wrapped everything securely in blankets, cardboard and also supplied wardrobes. The foreman of the moving crew was Professional. He did miss- place his drill in a piece of my furniture. Of which we found when they delivered our furniture in Florida. I wasn't all that thrilled with his crew. They moved a little slow. They went like gangbusters the first couple of hours, and then they slowed down and took until the very late afternoon to get us fully packed in the truck. The next morning we got a call from the moving company to say that they would be delivering in two days. We were driving down to Florida to meet the movers. Good thing we only stayed over one night at a hotel. We pushed it every day to drive at least 10 to 12 hours. Good thing we did because they got to Florida right behind us. The movers on the Florida end of the trip were a little more efficient. I suppose packing and unpacking are different as far as the time factor. I had a few items that had minor damage (Scratches) just tiny scratches. A little Old English took care of the minor scratches. One of the guys actually fixed my cedar chest, one of the legs fell off. He glued it and braced it. He did not have to do that. They were very kind to us. I have to say overall, I give this company four stars on the NY end and five stars on the Florida end. There were a couple of things that really bugged me. On the New York end of the move, one of the moving guys was in and out of my refrigerator like it was his home. I did not appreciate that. I did offer them water and supplied them plenty of water on my dining room table. They cleaned out all of the rest of my water in my refrigerator, that water was there for me and my husband. You would think that they would have a cooler of their own, with water and food. They actually had to stop working to go to the store to get lunch. That took an hour. I think they were looking for me to feed them too. I didn't even eat all day. They were sloppy in my bathroom. I had to give it a good scrubbing after they left. The owner Edward followed up with me and took care of all my concerns that I had. He did have a meeting with the guys In New York regarding their disregard of my bathroom and going in and out of my refrigerator. My elliptical which was about 13 years old, worked when I left New York. It did not work anymore when it made it to Florida. The owner Eddie did compensate me for that without a question. I wasn't even asking for anything. Edward made it right. They put all of our furniture together. The foreman on the Florida end was professional. His crew was as well. They did it all with a smile. All in all I would definitely give this company five stars. You won't regret hiring this company. I would recommend them 100%. read more

(Used for NEPA / Scranton, PA area) Great moving company!! They were available within 48-hours of calling, had a nice and large moving truck, and 3 movers. They were so kind, reasonably priced & traveled further than other local movers to help. They were able to load 2 storage units, travel to my new location, and unload all of it (up 3-flights of stairs) and did it all well-within the estimated time. The estimate was exactly the price paid at the end. All of my items are still in the same condition. They even wrapped my heavier items in moving blankets to prevent any damage during transit and going up steps. Highly recommend and will use in the future! read more

This moving company moved my apartment into a storage unit in February. A week ago, I got the stuff out of the storage unit, with a company that was wrapping everything very carefully. I watched them as they moved my items... which were sitting in the storage unit, already damaged. I have 4 bookcases - all badly damaged. The back panel of each of them has been either cracked, loosened, or completely torn off. A mobile countertop and storage unit for the kitchen is ruined. The top was taken off - fine, that's easier to move it. But then the unit was tipped on its side, and heavy boxes were stacked on top of it. We had to tape one of the wheels to keep it on - and all of these items were in perfect condition when they were removed from my apartment. The head of the crew proudly told me that the guy they had putting the stuff into my storage unit was really good at "jenga". Fitting items into the storage space in the coolest way possible should not be the first priority; making sure the client's belongings are not damaged should be. read more

The details don't matter so much -- but suffice it to say, some various elements made it so I had 24 hours to move all the large pieces of my furniture from my original apartment to my new one (I learned this on Saturday, and needed to move on Sunday). I called Rob the mover and he was totally helpful and said he could book me no problem. When I called back and added a few pieces later that night he said, no problem. When the friendly guys showed up and made small talk and smiled and moved my stuff, they said no problem (ask for Rebeh! He's lovely and efficient!). I hesitate to say this, but my early Sunday am moving trip within the Upper West Side (from an elevator to a walkup) was so easy and so simple. What could have been stressful and overwhelming wasn't. Rob the Mover's service was as easy as can be. Our original plans were cancelled three days before we were set to move and I was scrambling to find a great mover in a short amount of time. Rob made sure to fit me in. When the movers were running a few moments late, they were sure to give me a call and let me know that they were on their way. Two movers arrived and were so friendly and nice. It was a completely hassle-free move and they were the nicest guys ever. The move went off without a hitch and was done SO quickly. Loved them and all of my things arrived safely and everything was placed in the correct room with a bit of my direction. They broke down my bed frame and happily put it right back together to take that off our plate post-move. After the move, they had us check the back of the truck and make sure that we didn't miss anything - which was great and definitely made me so comfortable with the company. Set up the 9/1 move about 2 weeks before through email. Very easy, Rob was a very nice guy. 8/31 rolls around and my landlord is calling me saying that we had "agreed upon being out by the 31st" said if I did not move out that night he would keep my security deposit... needless to say I was in a pickle. Called Rob and he was able to send guys that day, have them move my stuff, store it over night (probably shouldn't even say this part as it is not a usual deal, but goes to show how great they are) and only charged me for 4 hours. Just as everyone else is saying, these guys were great. Specifically Brad (I think that was his name, he had blue eyes) and Isaiah who moved me. They were so nice and we all worked together to get me completely moved from one place to another in a hair over 2 hours! I used them because they had great yelp reviews and lo and behold, they were as good as I hoped they would be. Rob was super helpful and responsive and Brad and Isaiah did were great too. They were very honest and up front about all their charges, just make sure you read the pricing structure which they provide you with. For example, 2 guys and a truck is $100 and hour, but there's a minimum of 3 hours. So it's going to cost you at least $300. Including $20/per person for tips, the move cost me $400, which I was more than happy with. 5 stars for Rob, Brad and Isaiah! read more

The Ugly: Move was $200 over the quote. Careless. Dumped all the boxes in my apartment in a way that made no sense (boxes labeled kitchen chucked in walk-in closet, boxes labeled clothes thrown in kitchen). I opened the box that had my carefully wrapped plates and every since plate was broken. The Bad: 3 movers is a joke - there was one guy that carried most of everything, another person almost on par with him and the last person was clueless, scrawny, carried only the lightest items (one of which he broke) and seemed to just be there to fill the quota of 3 people. Not what I asked for! Rude. Despite paying much more than the quote I still tipped and the mover did not even say thank you or acknowledge that I was handing him a neatly stacked pile of 20s. I heart Craigslist but sometimes deals are less so once you factor in the cost to transport the item between homes. I'm so glad I found man-with-a-van Rob the Mover. His prices start at $45 (within select neighborhoods) for curb-to-curb. I found a Crate & Barrel Chaise Lounge that still retails for $1300 for $200 which the Chinese haggler in me negotiated down to $125. Score! Next step was to find the best mover for the least amount of money. I texted Rob the details of the move - time, locations, number of stairs and the item. Within 45 minutes he came back with a quote of $55 (the seller's apartment was a 3rd floor walk up and I live in an elevator building about a mile away) for door-to-door. I was unable to confirm the deal until the next day so I texted Rob that it was a go. He had a conflict and offered to find someone else to do the job. 20 minutes later it was set. I really appreciate his responsiveness. My mover, Dallas, pulled up in Rob's truck promptly the next evening. The move was quick and easy. The only input I had to make this decision, on behalf of my sister who moved from 2nd Avenue to 6th Street, were reviews from Yelp (thanks, Yelpers) and correspondences exchanged between me and Rob the Mover. I'm extremely happy and relieved to report that my faith in Rob the Mover was well invested: My sister's move went more smoothly than a hot knife through butter. I highly, categorically recommend Rob the Mover on all fronts: 1. PROFESSIONALISM: When you're entrusting a task as energy intensive and stressful as a relocation to a company, responsiveness is paramount. Rob responded to my request for a quote - and subsequent questions - very quickly. He typically answers emails at night, so you can expect responses to queries within 24 hours. His answers to my questions were always very thorough. He was straightforward in his quote, no hidden fees, no nickel-and-diming. Rob the Mover is a very fair, reliable business man, who demonstrates a high level of accountability for which I was grateful. As I mentioned, I helped my younger sister coordinate this move from Chicago, and I truly felt like she was in highly competent hands with Rob the Mover. 2. COST: As you likely know, unless you're looking for a disaster, don't select the lowest cost moving company to handle a relocation. It's all about finding the highest value company whereby value = cost + quality. Without a doubt, the value was there with Rob the Mover. His quote was competitive - he was actually the second lowest of the four quotes I requested from various moving companies. His hourly rate included two movers who moved my sister from a third-story apartment to a second-story apartment - both buildings were walk-ups. He said that the job likely would take three hours, and his estimation was right on the money. There were no surprises with cost or timing. The only additional charge was a disposable mattress cover, which was a nominal fee. 3. TIMING & FLEXIBILITY: I called Rob the Mover one week before my sister had to move, and he was able to accommodate her. It took some juggling, but he was able to schedule her move during a time frame that worked perfectly for her. His two movers were work horses and finished the whole job in three hours. Granted, my sister's move was fairly easy - she moved from a 400-square-foot apartment to a 600-square-foot apartment, so she doesn't have an abundance of belongings. I think it helped to clearly enumerate all of her large items and estimated number of boxes, though, as this input upfront helped Rob accurately estimate the time it would take to move her. 4. ANECDOTE: You have to read Rob's bio - it's on his website at http://robthemover.wordpress.com/about/. He's a teacher. He spent time in the Peace Corps in Malawi, Africa. He grew up in the Midwest. His background and work ethic are extremely impressive, and it felt really good to support a small business owner who has given so much to his community - locally and globally. I called this company because of all the exceptional reviews on here. All I needed done was a truck to be emptied and brought up one flight of stairs. So the movers were on time, fast and efficient. Also they were very nice guys. Then a few days later I was moving a mirror that they put faced towards the wall to the spot I wanted it and I noticed a crack. So I called the moving company to see if they would help me cover a replacement (wasn't an expensive mirror) Rob the owner was the one who answered my call. He did bring up valid points that I was the one who packed the van etc. I told him that I saw the mirror before the men brought it up the stairs and I told him that I wrapped it in a comforter of mine. Now THIS is the reason I am upset.... I agreed with Rob that it's true they may not have done it (even though I was 98% sure it wasnt me since I didnt see the crack before it went up the stairs), but the way he handled the situation as an owner was very poor. He first started by laughing at me and being very rude with his points telling me that it probably wasnt there fault. He spoke to me in a very condescending manner which I really disagree with when you are in charge of running a business. He also said he would call me back after he spoke to the men.... which he never did. So all in all, good movers besides the crack in my mirror that may or may not have been caused by them, but I completely disagree with business owners who don't immediately show paying customers respect. read more

I had spoken/emailed with Rob about doing a flat rate move and he was incredibly helpful and attentive to all my questions and possessions. That being said...I received a call 24 hours before the day of my move telling me that the movers were on their way and should be there in 10min. I work in the service industry and always try and make everyone's lives a little easier when I can but since I'm a last minute packer it wasn't really an easy task packing up my whole life an entire day earlier then we had originally agreed on. The movers themselves were a wonder and did a phenomenal job, but I was just a tad peeved that I had to accommodate a large mistake like that; still pay full price, and I kind of was made to feel like I was the one who should be apologizing when I have a clear confirmation and paper trail stating that the move was originally scheduled a day later. When all is said and done I liked the service...just maybe call a couple days before the move to make sure that their schedule matches what you originally agreed on. read more

What do you look for in movers? Reliability, inexpensive, efficiency. From getting the quote, to the "Welcome Home" from the foreman at the end of the move, working with Rob's team was seamless. Like, completely. The morning of my move was a snowy, NYC hell and I texted the foreman who wrote back: "We're like the Post Office. You're moving today!" Not only did they move me, they did it under the time expected. (Pro tip: tell them EXACTLY what you have ahead of time, so they plan. They said it was super helpful I was honest about all my crap.) They didn't bitch about the weather, the parking challenges, the five flights of stairs. Nope. Totally stress free. I hate moving, but love these guys. read more

I so badly wanted to give a good review but I was left with no choice after the movers left some of my things in their truck and then waited 3 days to bring them back to me. The overall move went well- they were on time, got it completed within the 3 hour time span, and for the most part all 3 of the mover's were very polite. But once I realized some things were missing I called to see if they were left in the truck. I got the reply "yes sorry they fell behind some boxes in the truck we will see when we can get them back to you". I response I wasn't angry with because mistakes do happen. What I was angry with is that no one called me back. This happened on a Saturday and after calling and talking with 3 different people I was reassured that "I would get a call back today even if it couldn't be delivered until tomorrow". To which all 3 times I never got a call back. I understand that this was a busy weekend since it was a holiday (July 4th weekend) but not calling me back or giving me a direct answer as to where my personal items were and when they would be delivered was just unacceptable. Especially when they shouldn't have been left in the truck in the first place. In the end my things were delivered 3 days later after calling approximately 5-6 times to check in. In the future I will take my business somewhere else. read more

My company only needed a conference table moved from one room to another. Most companies I called wanted to charge us nearly $500 to do this. I called Rob the Mover, and they gave us a reasonable quote and were able to send 3 guys out that afternoon. The person I talked to on the phone (I think his name was Ryan) was able to take the time to give us a specialized quote, so that we wouldn't be charged an hourly cost. The 3 guys showed up and were able to move the really heavy table in a matter of minutes. They were professional, timely, and friendly. If my company is ever in need of movers, we will definitely use Rob the Mover. read more

Rob the Mover is awesome!!! He came on short notice and moved a big couch in his truck from the UES to Brooklyn, and helped us pick the couch up over a fence and over a shed and all these other obstacles. Great prices too!!! Much cheaper than other moving companies I've worked with in the past. After speaking to him, we texted him the address and he told us he'd be there at a certain time - he arrived early, and was so friendly and helpful. Yay for Rob the Mover! Rob the Mover managed to squeeze me in with few days notice on one of the busiest moving days of the year. They even gave me a 5% discount for an afternoon move as well as providing their own blankets and tape as I was on a tight budget. They were so speedy and efficient! I was still frantically packing when they arrived and before I knew it, all my boxes and furniture had been moved out of my apartment!! They even removed and installed my AC for me at no charge and removed my tv wall mount (which other movers had quoted me $200). These guys are so great!! Super helpful and friendly!
