I checked my watch and told her I still had 8 minutes, then continued browsing. She immediately followed up in an angry tone with, "Seven minutes!" I fully intended to leave by 4. She eventually walked away, and I continued looking around. A moment later, I heard her loudly say "We've been here all day!" and I noticed her speaking about me with her two coworkers while they all stared in my direction. I approached the counter and asked for her manager's name. She gave it to me, and when I said I would be speaking to the manager about her behavior, she again responded angrily, saying " I'll make sure to let her know." For a shop that claims to be a charity benefiting domestic violence victims, the attitude displayed by its staff does not reflect the mission they promote. I am a long time La Grange resident, and I've both donated and purchased items here over the years, but after this experience, I will no longer be patronizing this establishment.

They offer multiple afterschool programs, tutoring, leadership conferences, groups for kids of all different interests to join, work trips, etc. If you have children in middle school or highschool in the southwest suburbs, check out CEP and find out if there's something of interest for your child. If you're an adult and are interested in volunteering, this is really an outstanding organization to be a part of. CEP has helped many young teens and made on impact on many lives, including my own. I will be a part of CEP for as long as it will have me!

This year we have been asked to move to the foyer or to whatever room may be available as they rely on rentals for these rooms. We agreed and we have been playing where they tell us to go. We pay $2.00 and now are asked to sign in and pay the fee. Additionally, we always were given water and coffee, and are now told that would no longer receive free water or coffee. When several of our members complained about this, a call was made to one of our members that we were rude to their staff, and they are not going to put up with this. I believe The Community House is ignoring the elderly in their community and are actually forcing us out of this venue in favor of younger members. Why else deprive us of free water.

A small group from my office decided to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children. This organization…read moreis non profit and relay on donations and volunteers to pack food for children around the world. We checked in and they gave us hairnets. We had to wait for the remainder of the volunteers to arrive. The team members from FMSC went over the safety procedures and how to pack the foods. Everything was well organized and already set up when we started packing the food. It felt amazing that just the small amount of time we dedicated to help this organization to feed children around the world who don't know where their next meal will be. The staff were very friendly and helped us when we weren't sure about something. They also had a small store with hand made products from some of the countries they send the food to.

I've volunteered for countless field trips for my 3 kids over the years and Cradles to Crayons is…read moremy personal favorites. My son's class came here to help sort thru the many many bags of donations they receive. I thought the staff at Cradles to Crayons did an amazing job explaining to a group of 3rd graders how this was an opportunity to help those less fortunate and love that they also got to help with the process. We spent a few hours sorting thru piles of clothing and dividing them into different categories (winter coats, girls short sleeve shirts, skirts to name a few). The kids had a lot of fun and even got a few chuckles when they came across things like bras and thongs, which were thrown in the "recycle bin." After a few hours of work they took a tour of the amazing facility, ate lunch and the Cradles to Crayon staff wrapped it up by praising them on their hard work! My son mentioned it was a super fun day and I think he enjoyed it more than the other field trips we've taken this year (ex: Chicago History Museum). I've now been here 3 times for field trips with my kids and each time I make a note that I need to come separately of school. This time I'm determined to make the time to donate my time to this amazing organization and great excuse to clean out my closets ahead of time to make a donation!
