Can I say that I've had the best experience of my life (so far, now into my late 50s) with going to a dentist's office? How could I have possibly known that having my teeth examined and cleaned can be a pleasant, even enjoyable, event? You know how it goes for many (most?) of us. We default to the assigned dentist in network with our insurance; that's what I've always done. In this new year 2026, I switched dental insurance plan, from PPO to HMO, and was bracing myself for a lower quality of service. My insurance company maybe randomly assigned a dentist to me, who knows what the algorithm does, and I was assigned Dr. Robert Murray. I called to make an appointment and got one with Dr. Elizabeth Le - in less than a week from the call! I couldn't believe this, because all my other previous dental appointments were a month out or more. Day 1: Dr. Elizabeth Le and assistant Casie took so many x-rays and photos of my imperfectly aligned teeth, like three times more than I've ever had for decades. Then, they clearly explained the status of my teeth. Good thing I have decently healthy teeth. Whew. We had fun conversations too; we all love our steak medium rare, thank you very much. Though my teeth are not perfect, so 3 suggestions were given. They were reasonable; I didn't feel pressured. (aside: though, reading many of the negative Yelp reviews, others did have uncomfortably bad experiences with financial costs & billing etc. Inexplicable how the same office staff would treat me well but someone else not so much) Before I left, I scheduled my next appointment, for teeth cleaning, and surprise surprise, I got a time slot the very next day! Day 2: I got my teeth cleaned by hygienist Gisselle. Before this year, all my teeth cleanings were done by the denitst. Didn't know that a hygienist could clean my teeth; and she did it so adeptly, mentioning that she's been working there for over 12 years. I was braced for drama. My fate was in her hands, because she alone would determine whether or not if I needed deep cleaning at extra charge. Gulp. Oh what a relief, She pronounced that deep cleaning was not needed. This office charges code 09911 desensitizing per tooth. $150ish (That is the lidocaine shot one gets) Insurance and the American Dental Association says that should be included in the fee. Crazy office policies. The front office girl is out of control, been coming here for years, loyal patient. I had to go to the hospital on a Sunday and called Monday morning to cancel out of courtesy to not just "miss" my appointment and was charged $95. I asked her if she asked Dr Murray. Dr. Robert F Murray's office is a DeltaCare USA HMO provider, but DOES NOT follow the fee schedule. Fanny at Dr. Sharma office claimed I needed a full mouth debridement, 4 quadrants scaling, before they would fix the urgent work of the tooth missing a filling and cracked tooth needing a crown. My gums do not bleed and I've not had any other provider recently that say I have gum issues and need a debridement or scaling so It my opinion this work is unnecessary. And for Fanny to inform me that I needed all this gum work before they would fix the filling and crown issue is just wrong... Furthermore, This office used code D04355 for the debridement which reads "Full mouth debridement to enable a comprehensive oral treatment and diagnosis on subsequent visit" This comprehensive exam D0180 was already done on the first visit to their office and the office failed to explain why I would need to do this debridement when this comprehensive exam was already completed on the first visit. The billing manager, Fanny also tried to charge me for this exam before I left the office even though there is no charge on the fee schedule. They also declined to submit a Predetermination to Delta so Delta could sort out the treatment plan fees. According to Delta submitting this Pre determination is a requirement if ANY Delta patient requests it. On one procedure not listed on my Delta fee schedule, D09910 application of desensitizing. This office engaged in something I would consider Price gouging or Profiteering by charging $275, 500% to 800% more than UCR and this offices contracted PPO rate under their tax id. This is even when I explained to Dr. Sharma on the initial visit that I do not currently have sensitive teeth as it is fully controlled with sensitive tooth paste. This office failed to answer any of the clinical or billing questions, even though I called and emailed multiple times. And when I tried to negotiate a better price than $275 for the application of desensitizer, I was sent an email saying this desensitizer was not optional and is standard of care and my appointment on 12-10-24 was canceled and I was written off as a patient. This desensitizer is not the standard of care issue with placing a crown, when sensitivity is under control with toothpaste and this code/procedure cannot be used as a lining for a crown or inlay. It's inappropriate to write off a patient, again I'm assigned to this Doctor, when it's simply a billing issue. This is the most egregious office I have visited under my DeltaCare USA. IF ANYONE READING THIS KNOWS OF A DeltaCARE USA HMO provider near Laguna Niguel that is TRANSPARENT & HONEST. I would be grateful if you would let me know. It seems DeltaCARE USA and its providers are not set up for you to receive care as outlined in your coverage due to unprofessional unethical actions and behaviors. read more

The reviews are what I experienced as well. They tell me I need a deep clean (even though I get my teeth cleaned every 6 months). They tried to tell me it would be $1200 and my insurance wouldnt cover it. I told them that didnt sound right and I just wanted a regular cleaning. They would NOT do just a regularly cleaning. Then I contacted my insurance company and they said the fees for a deep clean should have only been $250. Talk abut trying to rip off your clients. Wow! I know things are tough for everyone right now but trying to scam people out of their money by charging excessively for things that are covered is just deceitful. Only go if you don't care about a budget. This office quoted $775 out of pocket for what my HMO says I should have been charged $135. First, the good part: The doctor on staff and medical staff were terrific. The problem came when I was escorted to a closed office where the billing administrator took me to analyze my bill. After my initial exam, she proceeded to tell me that my cleaning would cost $175, and each cavity would cost $200. I called my insurance because this is so far out of line from previous dental costs. (I have an HMO with Delta Dental and I was assigned to this office). They informed me that I was being significantly overcharged by the insurance billing at Dr. Murray's dentistry. read more

You know the saying, one bad apple spoils the whole bunch... that is why I am giving a 1 star. I made an appointment with Dr Murray's office because they said they would take my Dental insurance. I went in for a cleaning, got my pictures done with Casie(very nice) and had a consultation with Dr. Phil who was very nice and answered all of my questions. He told me that I had 1 cavity and we needed to take care of it... great! After a few minutes, a lady named Fannie came to my chair and escorted me to the finance/insurance office. She starts to go through the doctor's report and tells me I need a Basic Cleaning(not a preventative cleaning).. I need a crown(not a cavity) and a couple other things on Doc's report. None of these things are covered by my dental insurance. After she tallied up the total with Crown, Basic cleaning and other services, I was to owe around $2,000. This is when I told her I was a little disappointed. I was under the impression that I was getting a cleaning and after the doctor's findings of the cavity I knew I would have to come back to take care of that too. I was having a tough time understanding her, however it was very clear that she thought my name was Corey. After correcting her for a 3rd time I knew I had lost that battle but I still wanted her to know how disappointed I was in the quality of service she was providing. Fannie also told me that she had recorded calls and that the office never made a cleaning appointment. I'm not sure why she told me this but regardless Fannie should take a class on customer service or go be a politician. Shaimaa from the front desk was also very nice. This is a place to have your teeth cleaned. They also love to take good x-rays as soon as you walk in. But for any other serious dental work, you might want to go somewhere else. They are willing to do your whole mouth dental work which will cost you tens of thousands of dollars, but you are treated as a waste of time for any other medical work. After the Dentist examines you and presents you with your treatment options, you have to go to the Insurance Manager's office in the back. There, she acts like a part-time Dentist / part-time Car Salesman who wouldn't stop pressuring you until you "go for it". I don't understand why Dental Offices use such tactics to generate income. Be careful for their finance department. I had twice bad experience with them. First time they over charged me and when I went home and realized that my insurance charge was suppose to be lower. I did not want to go through trouble and waste my time because in a way they were going to make up something. I did not go back for over 8 months. Normally I was going to go every 3 months. One day they text me for appointment. I thought may be that was one time mistake and may be they were going to be fine and I needed to see a dentist. I booked the appointment and went there. Same thing happened. That same lady at finance department asked me if I have insurance, I said yes, same insurance. Without checking she said $195 and ask me to go pay at the front desk. All she they did were simple cleaning and I was scheduled for next week for deep cleaning. I knew she over charged again. I wanted to see my insurance co pay document. They did not provide. I asked for invoice they gave me a credit cart print. I said I wanted to see what you charged me for, please give me my invoice specifically showing the charges. After waiting around 20 minutes they gave me something that is made up. I will not go there again. Please, watch out their charges. Hygienists are very good. Doctors good too. Absolutely would not recommend this office. The office staff lose your contact info, try to bill for services that did not happen, and bill at rates far different from the contracted values with health insurance provider. As for the dentist my wife and I saw, he was nice, friendly, and thorough and it was very nice to see photos and x-rays to go along with everything we were told. Once the dentist was done, he told us each what he saw and what he recommended. Interestingly, my wife and I were both told we had cavities, some of which would need to be filled asap, others could wait but would eventually need work. We were informed of the price of the procedures and of course it added up to almost $1k needed between the two of us. Back at the front desk, we were told the visit would be $35 per person, a surprise because our dental copay for a visit is only $5. When we asked about the additional cost, we were told the dentist did a cancer screening, but of course, no one ever mentioned that before or even during the exam, and the dentist was very thorough in explaining what he was doing every step of the way and never mentioned this additional procedure at all. After all of that, we were quoted prices for cleanings not consistent with the rates provided by insurance, making us hesitant to schedule anything further. Next, when asking about prices for our next appointments where we would then have our teeth cleaned as originally planned, we were told that Dr. Murray had a different opinion on procedures needed than we had been told by the dentist we actually saw and consulted with in office. After this appointment and realizing how terrible this office is, my wife and I went back to my old dentist who examined both of our teeth and took new x-rays and compared to the ones we had received at this office and found that the new x-rays showed no signs of cavities. Essentially this office will bill you whatever they want, for whatever they want, and tell you that you need dental work that you don't actually need. When I met with them I immediately explained my situation and expectations. They were very respectable and did not try to "Up-sell" me on anything unnecessary. My experience at Dr. Murray's office was okay for years, until about two weeks ago when I went in for a hygienist appointment. After my appointment I ended up needing a filling, so I decided to have it done right then and there. I had Dr. Rafi (I think that is her name?) do the job, and within in an hour after my appointment my filling popped out as I was flossing...I immediately returned to the office and had Dr. Murray redo her work. Dr. Murray didn't apologize on her behalf and would not explain to me why my filling would have popped out, until I straight up asked. My mom has also had issues with this same dentist and told me to avoid her but I did not have the patience that day to say no. I went to this dentist for several years and I cannot complain about the level of service I received however they were overcharging me for my teeth cleanings and when I brought this to their attention they were not happy and I had to contact my insurance company to complain about them before I could get a partial refund of all the times they overcharged me. I went there few times and They kept telling me to do work that I didn't need. When I came for a free cleaning one time, They would not do it and said I had some cavity in my bridge. So they charged my insurance for the "cleaning" that were never done. After I went to see two other dentist for a second opinion they told me I didn't have any cavity. So I never went back there, they called me after few months when I confronted them over the phone they said that in their records it doesn't show I had cavity and to come for the cleaning they billed my insurance. But guess what my answer was no thank you and don't trust you guys anymore. Unfortunately most of the dentists are not honest and just make you pay for work that you don't need. Both my husband and me have been patients of Dr. Murray for over five years. Great friendly office, and have in the past done shown accurate billing when my insurance through my work was quite a bit more complicated. They have taken both my husband and I within 30 minutes for same day appointments. They say always look for a dentist from USC for the best care. Dr. Murray has that , AND he has a degree from UCLA in Dentistry as well. Office is surgically clean. They also work with budgets and have some discounts on prices. When I first met Dr Murray several years ago, a Mission Viejo dentist told me I needed 3 crowns immediately. I didn't trust him. I was referred to Dr Murray, and made an appointment. He found no need for 3 new crowns! He has saved a tooth, replaced an existing crown with very small expense and has been honest to a fault. Yesterday, his recommended option was the least cost! When does THAT ever happen in a dentist's office? He has my trust. If you want an honest opinion, from a man that is kind, astute, and technically extremely proficient, you have found the man.
