Dr. Huvar can pull my teeth anytime! This is coming from an absolute baby when it comes to dentistry. Just the thought of walking into the dentist cause my knees to become weak. Unfortunately, I had a root canal that failed, so an inevitable molar extraction was staring me in the face. But wait, it took me a whole year to muster up the courage to even have the root canal - Insert crying woman. Things weren't looking too good for me. Another year goes by and I make several dentist appointments, only to cancel each one. I knew I couldn't go on like this and I needed to tend to my mouth. But possible pain, trumps logic for me every time. I was pondering how I'm going to overcome my fear and I said to myself - self, you need a professional tooth puller! After googling and realizing that title didn't exist, I discovered Oral Surgeon. (cue the music please) I was instantly and pleasantly overwhelmed with the possibilities of using a surgeon vs a dentist. After I researched several Oral Surgeons, I found Dr. Huvar, who happened to be in network and have an office location along my weekly route. All I can say is Dr. Huvar is sooooo gentle and sooooo skilled that he could probably perform extractions with his eyes closed, in his sleep, after a long days work, while facebooking, during spinning class and definitely while texting. It took him about 45 seconds to remove my molar. He came in and touched my gums, then told me to sit tight. He came back in the room and touched my mouth again and said - "all done!" Whatttttt!!!???? You can't be. I haven't felt any pain yet. He wasn't joking. I looked over at my tooth on the tray. Not only did I survive, but I felt absolutely nothing! After gazing at him in a teenaged, dreamy sort of way, Dr. Huvar provided a prescription pain medication - never filled it. I went on to eat that night and never encountered any pain. If I ever leave the state and need an extraction, I'll fly in, just so I can see Dr. Huvar. read more

My first appointment was at the Oswego location because it was the earliest that fit my schedule at the time. I could have gone to this location which is nearer to where I live, but I did not want to wait or put things off any longer. I was not in a good mood when I arrived because I did NOT like "going to the dentist" due to bad childhood experiences. Dr. Huvar IMMEDIATELY sensed that I was not in the best of moods and calmly, patiently, reassuringly helped me to feel much better. He has demonstrated this same professionalism at each of my appointments. There was ONE appointment that needed to be rescheduled for later the same day, but it did not affect anything for me. On the morning of one of my appointments, I was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. I immediately notified the office. They gave me a later time for THE SAME DAY. Things worked out fine! Dr. Huvar is a 100% attentive, calming, caring, pleasant, professional, sensitive, thorough, and understanding Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. I had him do seven dental implants in 2017. He did a superb job explaining the entire process and patiently answering all of my nervous questions. The office staff were attentive and shared the same attributes as Dr. Huvar. while dr. huvar may have great technical skills, his communication and office staff are poor! I had two very frustrating experiences, calling for appointments for specific procedures, going to the office (after hearing the office staff complain of their headaches and stomach aches) and having Dr. Huvar not follow through on procedure scheduled. Really not the hassle I need when going in for teeth problems... I'm stressed enough - please run an efficient office and communicate clearly! I had to have a tooth extracted because it was just a bad tooth. I have had this tooth filled and even a root canal on but was just falling apart over the years. Obviously i was very nervous, never having a tooth pulled before. Dr. Huvar gave me the shots for the numbing, let me sit for a few minutes while it took and then came in and said that he wanted to look at the tooth. Within 30 seconds, literally, he said "ok thats it!" I didnt feel a thing and if I didnt have a whole in the back of my mouth I wouldnt have believed he just removed a tooth! =) My healing process is still moving along fine and I have had no issues. read more

Got my wisdom teeth out about three weeks ago, and it was great! It took only an hour, didn't hurt at all, and was super simple. The after care instructions were perfect and I wasn't swollen or bruised AT ALL. INSANE. Dr. Huvar was incredibly transparent with me the entire process and the office staff is all so nice. There us a problem with Dr. Huvar with our second son that went in for his teeth extractions in June. The office asked for a full payment and was told of reimbursing us back for the difference after my dental insurance has paid them. That was in Oct when they finally called back and sent an email to show us the overpayment of $380 after numerous attempts to call them. They said they will send the check but until now we didnt get anything. We called numerous times to look into the matter but they have not responded at all. I'm very disappointed with the don't care attitude from them. Does this constitute as fraud on their part? Doctor service is good, customer service is terrible and billing dept is worst. Dr. Huvar is great, a craftsman at his specialty. He does invasive work causing little pain and tolerable discomfort. I don't know how he does it but he is by far the gentlest oral surgeon I have encountered. However, that said, his office staff stink. They are incorrect on their billing so watch for that. They are poor with managing insurance coverage and drag the process out far too long. Poor customer service is hard to overlook. The staff are rude, talk about patients in front of others and unprofessional. I wish Dr. Huvar would realize he is losing patients due to his office staff. read more

I just had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed this morning and they were absolutely amazing. Dr Huvar was very caring and quick, all 4 were out it 5 mins. No joke. The only pain I felt was the IV which was not bad. His two assistants, (I wish I could remember their names!) were also awesome. I have horrible anxiety and they took great care of me. If I ever need any oral surgery again I will never go anywhere else. I dont think I can say enough good things about them and the staff was not rude at all. They may have been new. I most definitely DO NOT recommend this "doctor!" He cancelled on my family four separate times within minutes of a scheduled procedure. I can understand one, maybe two cancellations, but four times is unacceptable! We have had to take days off work only to have them cancel with little to no consideration for the inconvenience! Not to mention that twice my sons had gone through the fasting necessary for the procedure only to have the office cancel last minute! One time they cancelled the procedure as my son walked through the door. They have the audacity though to tell patients they will be charged a cancellation fee if a patient cancels within less than 24 hours. Hypocrites!! read more

The staff is extremely friendly and I liked the doctor at first. I had to have all 4 wisdom teeth removed and I have yet to have them extracted. I made my appointment no problem. I requested 4 days off work for recovery. Then an hour before my appointment they called and cancelled. They rescheduled me two days later and apologized. I was angry but I agreed and made the second appointment. Then, the next day they called and cancelled my second appt. I told them how much pain I am in and all they offered was a discount for the troubles. I have decided to go somewhere else that cares more about their patients and the amount of pain they are in. Needed my impacted wisdom teeth taken out. I had four appointments, all of which were rescheduled due to him having "emergencies." On the day I was finally going to have my teeth taken out, I got a call half way there (20 minutes) saying my appointment was pushed back due to an "emergency." Okay fine, then 30 minutes later I get a call that my appointment is cancelled all together. I'm a full time college student with a part time job who had to work around my hours to make their hours work, then I get nothing for it. WILL NEVER SEE HIM AGAIN AND RECOMMEND NO ONE ELSE DOES EITHER. read more

Dr. Huvar stays on the forefront of oral surgery. He is as knowledgeable and skilled as it gets. He has a calming reassuring chair-side manner that is quite comforting. He truly cares about your well being. The staff is friendly and courteous. His fees are competitive for the geography, but still high, especially when you consider that most dental benefit plans don't cover much in the way of oral surgery. I had to set up a pre-tax health spending account in advance to help make the fees tolerable. The only issue I have with Dr. Huvar's practice is the last minute re-schedules so he can run to the hospital. I understand why he does this, and it is an important service. It just seems like he could work out some sort of schedule with the hospital and not be calling customers to cancel at the last minute. Were it not for this, I would give him 5 stars. read more

Please don't go to this Dr! He left the top of a instrument in my jaw where a wisdom tooth was extracted! When he was extracted my wisdom tooth that tooth took forever to extract...I now know why. He knew he had broken a piece of his instrument in my jaw. When I went in for the 1week checkup he took a Pan and didn't show me it. He then did exam and told me everything was good. It wasn't until my employer took pan and saw the piece of instrument. It was until then that I found out. It was years later that I found out. Im still very upset about this. He should hv told me something was wrong. When I went in to face him about the situation after I found out. He said he couldnt take it out and would just take a look at it here and there to make sure it was ok. read more

Dr. Huvar seems to be a fine enough oral surgeon. He had to remove a growth on my daughter's gums which went fine. However, it is a complete nightmare to deal with his staff and insurance. He is in network, and each time we have had to pay around $300 for visits etc... I sent them a payment which they lost and then sent me a collections notice on. They didn't call me back after 2 voicemails where i was trying to pay the bill. It is not worth the time and effort. I will go to an out of network provider and pay the upcharge next time. read more

My husband came here to have his wisdom teeth evaluated to see if they needed to be removed. As this dentist was in-network and we had a referral from his general dentist, we did not expect a bill of $200 for a 15 minute visit where nothing was actually done. I wish I could give negative stars!! Went to have my wisdom tooth removed after multiple infections and he took half the tooth and said couldn't do the rest. Then my other wisdom tooth was getting infected and was told he couldn't pull that one either. I suffered in pain and multiple antibiotics for over a year. Got a second opinion and the surgeon said yeah lets pull all 4 and did with no problem and I have been awesome since. Dr Scherer in Naperville-amazing man!! Then to top it off Dr Huvar is trying to charge me-2 years later-for screwing up my life for a year. I was on the phone a long time, the lady was checking on something and said she'd call back and a week later I still haven't heard from them. I tell everyone who asks me to tell everyone they know not to go there. I NEVER write reviews and have never had an issue with a dr I couldn't resolve. one whole star is generous....i wish i could give negative stars...I would never recommend this hack to anyone anywhere. i had a CONSULTATION for wisdom teeth extraction where i brought my own xrays and information pertaining to the procedure. first of all, i never actually saw the doctor, i just saw his nurses and assistants. secondly, they were saying i would need some extra precautionary procedure because of where my wisdom teeth were, that when i got a second opinion the doctor i ended up going with said that was just a ploy for them to make more money off of me. i did not spend more than 15 minutes in that office, and again i DID NOT see the doctor AT ALL not only did they try to gouge money out of me, but they had the gall to charge me $65 for a visit THAT I DIDNT NOT EVEN SEE THE DOCTOR!!! they ended up sicking their lawyers on me after i refused to pay over and over i just gave in. Will never use them again ! I made appointment for a "maintenance" cleaning of my teeth. First I was kept on hold for over 5 mins before they scheduled that. The front desk person even didn't apologize for holding me that long ! The worse was yet to happen. When I came at appointment time there was nobody at the front desk - I waited 10 mins for anyone to even show up. Receptionist informed me that I have to wait another 30 mins for the doctor. After experiencing a week of excruciating pain I went to Dr.Huvar's office in hopes of getting my wisdom tooth removed. I expressed that I needed a tooth extracted that week, and I was assured that I could get my tooth removed if necessary that week. So upon being reassured I scheduled the consultation. They then told me at the appointment I could get my wisdom teeth removed, and that I would come in at 10:30am 2 days later. I was also told I needed someone with me at all times, so my mother ended up taking the day off. I was also told no food or water after 12 am that morning. So today did everything I was told only to find out that my so called appointment never existed. They were so scared I may go to another surgeon that they lied to me about my appointment! I am so irritated, I didn't even take pain medication because I didn't want it to interfere with my anesthesia. This shows a total lack of care for all patients, when they could have easily told me they were booked and I could have looked elsewhere instead of wasting my time and my mother's time! read more

Incompetent to say the least! I was referred by my ex dentist to see Dr Huvar to have 2 teeth extracted. 2 to be evaluated for rc. Root canals was a no go. So I already had my date to see Dr.Huvar for the other 2 teeth. I explained the other 2 are not able to be root canaled and if they needed any referrals I would take care of it. The receptionists said they would take care of it. So schedule appt beginning Sept to get oral surgery. Arrange ride don't eat after midnight. They get my money put me in the chair mask on and the tell me they don't have approval for the surgery from the insurance co. I'm like well why am I in this chair then. I don't know when did it becomes the patients job to do all the paper work. I offered yet it wasn't take care of. In too much pain 2 teeth have been approved by the insurance co. Great today. Arrange for ride don't eat. Teeth still screaming in pain!! Umm the total is $800 the insurance still hasn't approved the other 2 teeth. Yeah because the referral wasn't submitted. They've screwed up the referrals to bad the insurance co doesn't know which is getting done. 29,39 or 3,14 well the other referral probably expired or something. They said the insurance co won't cover the anesthesia. Really I just f-ing called them. They need a note from the doctor stating it is medically necessary and MAGIC it's covered. So not going back. My dentist office said they never had a problem with this office!! Really I find that hard to believe! I just found out in 2 minutes that I would be covered. Two months ago I had gone to my dentist with a impacted wisdom tooth and was referred to Dr. Huvar's office for extraction. I called to make an appointment for extraction and was informed that it was mandatory to have a consultation first so I set up an appointment three weeks from that point to do so.The day before the consultation I received a call where they informed me that they would need to cancel my appointment and the soonest they could get me in would be the following week. So, one month from the initial call i went in for the consultation. i arrived on time and ended up waiting half an hour before they called me to the back.I was then informed that the xrays my dentist had sent over were not clear enough and that i would need to take another. after taking the xrays, i sat for another twenty minutes until Dr. Huvar could finally see me. He entered the room, told me i needed my bottom two wisdom teeth removed (no duh), and that was it. He was only in the room for about a minute and didn't even look in my mouth. On my way out i stopped to schedule my appointment and made it very clear that it would have to occur on a Friday because i could only take one day off from work and would like it occur before my weekend so i could have time to recuperate. She told me the soonest she could get me in was Dec 18 (a one month wait) and my extraction was set. Well, today i received a call from his office staff informing me that the office is now going to be closed on the 18th and wanting me to reschedule for the Wednesday before (the 16th). I inform them that i already have taken the 18th off, and again remind them that i have requested for it to be on a Friday, and in response she brought up Wednesday again. I then asked her to just cancel the appointment because i could go somewhere else, and instead of leaving it at that she asked me a third time if i really wanted to cancel or if i could just come in on Wednesday. So, I'm taking my business elsewhere, because two months is long enough for me to wait for Dr Huvar. From the reviews i have read he seems to be skilled, but i have seen nothing besides him trying to sell me the idea i needed teeth extracted that i had already known needed removal. I can't help but feel i was scammed for consultation/xray fees, and have received nothing in return for this long wait. read more

I have always been afraid of dentists, image one with the title of oral surgeon! Also my past three extractions of my wisdom tooths weren't the greatest... two different dentists and still am not sure who will take the Oscar for worth performance. Now after year avoiding the last extraction, I had no options enymore than extract it. And then came the day where I was sitting in Dr. Huvar's 'chair', wondering if would take more than half hour of torture and pain. After a while waiting ( seems like decades) he arrived...I open my mouth and he started with one of the torture instruments...than in a minute of so he sayed we are done! How so? What about the pain?the bleeding and the feeling somebody broke my 'maxo'? Was he joking? No! It was done very fast and with no pain!!! Better Yet the days after came very ease...with no pain what so ever and now complete recovered; I want to thank Dr. Huvar for his capacity as a professional and hope he will stay long in his profession doing to others what he did for me! Daughter went to see this dentist. His office is not forthright w/what is covered by insurance. Although "in network", this dentist charged $112 for consultation (not covered by insurance), & another $112 for an evaluation, also not covered by insurance. Not one thing completed for daughter & we have an over $200 bill. I do not recommend ever seeing this dentist, but if you decide to see this dentist, I highly recommend getting concrete information on what is covered & what is not covered. read more

The Dr. was great removing my sons wisdom teeth. That was back in July. Still waiting to get my $500.00 refund for money that I had to pay up front and was covered by the insurance. My daughter had her wisdom teeth out 2 years ago. We paid all they asked up front. Now 2 years later we received a bill for 3,365$ for the services!! 2 years later!! I called them to discuss this left a message. No one returned my call. Then called again and was told this is my issue and I need to contact my insurance company!! I don't even have this insurance anymore!! So rude such horrible customer service!! I have another daughter who needs her wisdom teeth out too but will never take her here. Zero stars. Every review on here that speaks of the office staff being less than helpful is 100% accurate. The office is run by a bunch of inexperienced "teenage" girls, that are completely clueless. To begin, this establishment will bill you 20% of your estimated bill, the day of your surgery. Never heard of such thing. There is absolutely no customer service in this office. NONE. Two days before my surgery, I had to have my dental insurance call their office and explain how to bill the procedure. Then, they tell me I need a "specialty" referral. After many phone calls, the staff fessed up to their mistake they had made, and left me hanging. Needless to say I am taking my $3500 surgery elsewhere. Preferably somewhere with a focus on customer service and insurance billing expertise. Stay away from this place. Complete nightmare. Cost me a couple days off work, total frustration, and to be honest...they run their office as if they it is their first day in the business. Oh, and I did meet Dr. Huvar for about 3 minutes. Seemed like a very nice guy. Not too sure how he still has a practice. read more

I'd like to say that the doctor is good and I had no issues with him or the care he gave my daughter. The staff however... another story. They do not accept secondary insurance and when I filled out my papers to submit to my secondary they needed the office information. I paid in full at the time of the visit and had no balance owed. The secondary insurance made the mistake of mailing my reimbursement check to the office and I called and spoke to the office manager. She first told me she mailed the check back to insurance however a month later I called insurance and sure enough the check was cashed by the dentist office. I called back and was told since the check was made payable to them "of course" they took it. I have yet to receive my money as they have been over paid. I recommend using another company because of this. They won't take secondary insurance but they'll surely take the money. read more

Going in-network for dental care was something I hadn't done for the 40 years I've been paying for my own dental care. I wish I would have tried Dr. Huvar years ago. I consulted with 3 oral surgeons, 2 out of network and Dr. Huvar who is in my dental network, about getting an implant and selected Dr. Huvar based on his professionalism during the consulation i had with him and his honesty, especially, for example, when he explained that sedation was not necessary at least for my situation, something that the other two oral surgeons were adament I get and would have cost so much more. One of the best dental professionals I have had give me local anthesia for both the extraction and implant. I followed post-operative care instructions and had no problem after either the extraction/bone graft or implant procedures. For my situation, it was fast and nearly painless. As far as the administrative side of the practice, I think patients should understand that the staff is there is "assist" the patient with their insurance billing. A patient needs to educate themselves as to what procedures their insurance is going to cover and how the insurance company will bill them.. I called a few times asking the same question and the staff was always happy to answer or recheck for me. I had two appointments that were rescheduled/delayed due to the doctor responding to an emergency situation at the hospital; not a big deal for me because I know that someday I could be the one with the emergency. Horrible experience. This doctor has absolutely zero bedside manner. After two visits and a CT-scan, I still had no idea what my issues were or what his plan was to improve my comfort. He seemed annoyed that soft food, ibuprofen, and a heating pad did not make me feel much better. He then asked me "what exactly do you want?" He proceeded to tell me he was going to law school (and I care why?) and that he new many famous people. I have never felt more uncared for before. When I asked that my file along with the CT scan be sent to my dentist, I was told that they never release clinical records. I guess they just want you to pay for the records, not actually know what they say. Also, couldn't agree more with the bad reviews about his staff. They submitted insurance incorrectly and therefore over-billed me. Good thing he is going to law school as I suspect he will be in court in the future. read more
