I went to Dr Pink for a second opinion and opted to have my wisdom tooth removed by him. I absolutely cannot describe any 1 thing that was not excellence in action. I was treated superbly by his staff from every moment of contact. His receptionist , his surgical assistant ( Brandie) and his insurance / billing person were by far very pleasant and professional, and all very personable (Brandie, his Assistant in particular was exceptional) by his office staff. I had 1 tooth extracted under a local anesthetic, and followed the written and verbal instructions to the letter. I had minimal swelling and pain. I took 1tylenol just before procedure and 1 a few hours after and that was it ! Never had any discomfort. I am recommending all my coworkers go to him for their wisdom teeth, as we all have same insurance luckily. Book your appointment soon before he gets to booked up ! read more

My experience at Dr Kalants office was flawless. I put off getting my wisdom teeth extracted for years. I heard all the stories of bad bruising and pain involved with impacted wisdom teeth. I am only on day 3 of my recover so I will update this if anything changes, but within the iv they gave me anasthesia, anti nausea (since I get sick easy), anti anxiety to calm my nerves, and a steroid to reduce inflammation. My one concern is there wasn't too much communication but overall on only day 3 I do not feel the pain that many people deal with post wisdom teeth removal. Whether it was the sedation or my after care it's been extremely positive thus far. I also had many friends get theirs removed with no pain meds and he was attentive as to making sure his patient got pain killers for the aftermath. Went to Dr. Pink for a wisdom teeth removal consultation. The whole experience was alarming. When Dr. Pink came in, he asked me "how allergic" I was to certain medications after reading my chart, because if it's only hives he would still give them to me. Why is he okay with giving a patient any kind of allergic reaction?? He then began to explain the surgery and his procedures for infections post-surgery for when they happen, as if that was a common occurrence with his surgeries. The consultation felt rushed, and he didn't ask if I had any questions. I then started asking my questions. He seemed annoyed and answered condescendingly with short responses. I felt talked over and not listened to at all. Every employee there had a major attitude and I will NOT be letting that man touch me. Do yourself a favor and GO ELSEWHERE. read more

Dr. Pink, has NO bed side manors what so ever. He pulled my daughters 4 wisdom teeth. She ended up with dry socket so we had to go back in and see him. He poked the one bottom tooth, and it hurt her really badly. So she didnt want to open her mouth to be poked again. He said come on your an adult, open your mouth. She said no you hurt me so bad. He then raised his voice and demanded open up your mouth, I have other patients to see. Keep in mind my daughter is only 15. I dont believe anyone would consider that age an adult. How about some compassion, I know u hurt you, this time I won't stick a metal thing in your already extremely sore mouth. The next few times we went there to have it packed, he attempted to be nice. I barely spoke to him. I wanted to let him know how I really felt but my daughter was too afraid he would hurt her again, so she begged me not to say anything. read more

These people deserve zero stars! Dr Kalant Sr. doesn't care about his patience's. His staff is rude and not helpful. I went for an implant, but 18 months after the process they sent me a bill with no notification or communication that insurance didn't cover the procedure. The insurance company said I should have done a bridge. Both Dr Kalant and my family dentist were both 100% that I should do the implant. Then when procedure was done, they didn't communicate or tell me anything was wrong with the insurance. I paid everything they asked for. Their staff is just bad and it directly effects the patients. My ortho talked to Dr Kalant. When we arrived he acted like my ortho did not talk to him. He seemed "out of it". He seemed like he couldn't remember what we said in the beginning of the conversation or why we were there. He was singing and talking to himself and just wasn't making alot of sense. When I left my daughter and I said no way is this guy touching her. I even expressed my concern about his behavior to the front office staff and our orthodontist thinking maybe something was medically or mentally wrong. Orthodontist tried getting ahold of the dentist again to see what was going on And Dr Kalant all of the sudden was off for 6 weeks. We went to a different provider within the same practice but at a different location. Our experience was better. I however do not recommend this office especially Dr Kalant. I Paid upfront for services and now just received a bill TWO YEARS after the procedure for several hundred dollars. The number to call for billing just rings and rings. I didn't want to write this review but after today I felt compelled to. Perhaps I'll come back and change this if things are looking better but for now this is my experience. I was recommended to Dr Kalant for tmj issues and upon my first visit the doctor seemed knowledgeable and friendly. However then I needed an MRI scheduled and the chaos ensued. I had to call the office and my insurance (insurance was being a pain too) in order for them to work together to get approval for an MRI. It took weeks and each time I had to proactively reach out to the doctors office. Upon having the MRI I had a zoom call with the doctor to discuss treatments and after he said his staff would be reaching out to schedule surgery and make sure my insurance covers it. It's been over two weeks and I called on Wednesday to follow up and was told someone will call me back and it's now Friday and no phone call back. When I called the office I was treated so rudely and acted like I was being unreasonable. I am in pain and this has been going on for weeks so Apologies for following up with the staff but unfortunately I believe if I don't follow up I will never hear from the office again. I was in for 4 teeth to be removed 8 or 9 years ago. Dr Kalant jabbed me with Novocain, not taking care like the other dentists I have ever been to. Now it is 2016 more than 8 years later, and the left bottom side of my mouth is still numb from that day. A number of doctors told me he hit a nerve, and there is nothing that can be done about it. I agree with Kris M., this agency does not even deserve one star. The office staff and assistants are very rude - it's inexcusable. I have never been treated with such a lack of respect. I was talked down to and given the impression they really don't care. Despite taking my insurance, I was charged a co-pay (up front) and after my treatment, I was sent a bill with the explanation that it was for a consultation. To my knowledge, I wasn't given a consultation. When I called for an explanation, the office clerk who answered the phone was snippy and nothing was done about it. In the end, I was charged nearly $250 out of pocket for the pulling of a single tooth. I cannot recommend this office. There is nothing redeeming or professional about this office. read more

I hate to give this rating because I have some faith in Dr. Michael Pink, who did a great job on pulling a tooth that had given me years of grief. Nevertheless, I cannot recommend the experience. I'm a nervous person. I don't like going to the dentist. The people who work here do nothing to make you feel welcome. Before you even get near a dentist, they take you to the accounting clerk and make sure you pay. She was cold - all business "Pay up NOW" kind of attitude.. The dental clerks were rude. When I didn't stand quite right for the x-ray, she got all nasty with me like I'm stupid or something. When someone is scared you don't treat them like dirt. That's how I was treated. The worst thing is what they charge. They're supposed to be mostly covered and part of the Delta Dental netowrk. I paid up front and I was charged more for miscellaneous fees and a consultation I didn't remember getting. I ended up paying more than $200 out of pocket. That's more out of pocket expenses than ANY other dentist in the area. read more

Dr. Kalant came highly recommended. My son had four wisdom teeth pulled and two weeks post op we started to notice one of his front teeth was graying. We went to our personal dentist who informed us the tooth suffered trauma and now needed a root canal. I called Dr. Kalant's office to discus and, of course, they denied that the wisdom teeth extraction damage another tooth. Didn't even ask us to bring him in to check on him. I took my 14 year old son to Dr. Kalant to get a recommendation on whether he needed his wisdom teeth pulled. Dr. Kalant recommended that we go ahead with the surgery and moved quickly into the details on what the surgery would entail. When I asked questions to better understand why he needed them pulled he became annoyed and asked if I was an Attorney. The cost of the visit was $200 and I still do not know if the extraction is necessary or if it is better to wait to see if he has any issues with crowding. After paying for the visit, I asked for an estimate of what the extraction would cost. I was told that they don't provide that information until after the surgery is scheduled. I explained that knowing the cost would help me make a decision on whether I would schedule for this year or delay until next year. I was told that it was up to Dr. Kalant to decide if I could have an estimate prior to committing to and scheduling the surgery. The staff and Dr Pink were very friendly and professional. However, at our first consultation appt, we waited in the waiting room for over an hour passed our scheduled appt time, and then another 20 mins in a small exam room before the Dr came in. At the surgery appt, we waiting for 50 mins passed our scheduled appt time to be taken back. Being in the medical field, I understand that sometimes emergencies happen, and that may have been the case on these two days. But we were never addressed by the staff for the time delay; no apology was ever given. I paid fully for a service, and a simple apology would have been nice. It was obnoxiously annoying. read more

To start, the girls who answer the phones at this office are so rude! I had called the office to schedule for 4 teeth to be pulled. I was given an appointment and took 2 days off of work. My husband took the day off from work and drove me since I knew I was going to be put under anesthesia. What I didn't know was that my appointment was actually a 5 minute $80 consolation that I was never told about. SO, I had to schedule yet another appointment that my husband and I took another day off of work for. That was just the start of my problems with this office. After my "consultation" their office gave me an "out of pocket" price based on how much my insurance was not going to cover, which was over $600. I decided two weeks before my oral surgery that I did not want to pay that much out of pocket so I called to canceled 3 of teeth being pulled, and do just one to lower my cost. The girl I spoke with on the phone told me that if I canceled the other 3, that my insurance was not going to cover any of the surgery, and that I would actually have to pay MORE out of pocket to do just one. So I very hastily agreed to do all 4. A few months after the surgery I started receiving bills from their office for $400, (after I had already paid the $650 out of pocket). I had assumed this charge was meant for the insurance company, and they were just waiting on a payment. A few months afterwards their billing dept called me to inform me that I need to pay this $430 because my insurance didn't actually cover as much as they had originally told me. I was told that if I don't pay this amount I would be sent to collections. My simple 45 minute surgery cost me well over $1000, plus 4 vacation days between my husband and I, AND a huge friggin headache. If you are going to spend that much money to have something as simple as having a couple of teeth pulled, I suggest going somewhere that actually cares about their patients. read more

All Around Great Experience! Our 10-year-old son had a very stubborn tooth that needed to be extracted and it was pretty involved. We had a consultation with Don Kalant. He took a lot of time with us to explain what would be involved with the procedure and made our son feel at ease about what needed to be done.The cost of the procedure was less than we expected. The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Our son had the surgery on 08/01/2017 and everything went perfect. I would highly recommend Don Kalant DDS to anyone! He was my first choice for an oral surgeon, made an appointment and said I would have to call back to schedule the surgery, which I did. However after many MONTHS of not getting a call back, I decided to give it one more shot. Went back to make sure my dentist and Kalant were both on the same page to see which root canals were coming out. This dentist made me feel like a complete idiot as he was explaining to me (in dental terms) what the side effects of extracting a wisdom tooth on the nerve are. I asked him a question regarding this, and he rudely told me that "Geez, I just told you all of this". Rude. Our son was the victim of an aggravated assault and we were referred to Dr.Michael Pink. His jaw was broken and Dr. Pink stayed late to see him at their Joliet office. He was great. He scheduled the surgery for 7PM two days later and all our follow-up visits with him were pleasant and informative; these were at their Naperville location. Very happy with our experience. Just wish Blue Cross would pay more for oral surgery like they do for medical surgery procedures; but not oral surgeon's fault for that. read more

Stay away! The only reason I gave them 1 star is because Yelp won't let us leave it at zero. First of all the office staff was rude from the beginning. With that being said, they charge 30% of total fees up front and didn't tell me that before the visit. I only have to pay 10% of the contracted amount through my insurance, which is way, way less than the full cost. I asked for a predetermination of benefits, and they refused. They said it's my responsibility to call the insurance company for that information, and regardless, I would still have to pay 30% of the full cost up front. That's insane! Dr. Kalant shows up as being in-network online with my insurance company, they confirmed they are in network for my plan over the phone before the visit, but the particular Dental associate they gave us is NOT in network. I didn't find that out until I received my explanation of benefits from insurance weeks later. I am having to pay an out of network deductible. The office manager won't return calls, and Dr. Kalant himself has ignored our calls and letter asking for help. I am filing a complaint with the American Dental Association. read more

I had been referred to Dr. Kalant by my dentist as I had to have 7 teeth extracted.....I had no problems after the procedure and only had to take ibuprofen for minor pain the day after surgery. I would highly recommend them for any oral surgery as they were wonderful. I have had many friends that have had just wisdom teeth pulled and have been in excruciating pain the day after requiring high doses of pain meds.....I had seven teeth pulled and never even got swollen from the procedure nor was I in any pain. I had corrective double jaw surgery with Dr Kalant back in March 2018 & I couldn't be happier! Not going to lie, I was getting frustrated with being told I still wasn't ready for surgery after 2 years, but the minute I got the OK from Dr. Kalant its been smooth sailing. I was able to schedule the surgery within a few months, as expected. I had surgery at Edward Hospital and the surgical staff (alongside Dr. Kalant) were very friendly & helped me feel comfortable. Post op at the hospital, Dr. Kalant checked in on me every day and said everything was looking good! His office was very accommodating & easy to schedule my many post op appointments. There was even a day where I thought I developed thrush & Dr. Kalant was able to squeeze me in his schedule that same day! He has been very helpful & easy to contact if I had any questions or concerns. I'm still recovering from surgery but I am VERY happy with the end results! I highly recommend Dr. Kalant. read more

I do not recommend this office for dental care. While I have heard that Dr Kalant himself is skilled in tooth extraction, working with him and his office is a bad experience. I paid over $2,000 for services up front as required, and they submitted an insurance claim. They held my funds for well over three months after being reimbursed, I had to send my husband to the office IN PERSON to retrieve our money. Then later received a separate bill for $160 for a panorex x-ray (which had already been provided by my dentist) Insurance denied payment for the panorex, since it was clearly unnecessary to do another one, and I was stuck paying for it. The last thing I want when facing expensive dental treatment is to be nickel and dimed. read more

I had a tooth that was abscessed and was referred to Don Kalant and Associates. The office was very professional and they extracted the tooth with no issues at all. I was nervous about the procedure, but they made this visit as painless as possible, and I was very pleased with my experience. I am seeing their office now to get an implant, and the experience has been very good so far. I am with MetLife Dental Insurance and had no issues at all with fees in excess of their original estimate. My son had his wisdom teeth removed by this office too, and they did a great job. I went to see Dr. Kalant after being diagnosed with TMJD by my dentist. I was told that Dr. Kalant was trained by one of the forefront TMJD surgeons out there and his location was close to home. Match made in heaven, right? Not so. In total he only spent about 10-15 minutes with me and most of that time was looking at my paperwork and not physically examining me. I was told that my disks were not the problem, it was the muscles causing me pain. Now I am a medical professional and had seen my MRI, so I was highly doubtful of this and in general I just felt like he did not listen to me at all. Not too long after that I went to see the surgeon that Dr. Kalant had worked under and he recommended jaw surgery. Those disks that Dr. Kalant said weren't a problem? Extremely degenerated and one had a giant gaping hole in it. I have the pictures from during surgery. I am now 99% pain free. If you have TMJD issues I would definitely recommend seeing someone else besides Dr. Kalant. read more

I took my son in on August 24th for a consultation on his wisdom teeth. He was told we should take all four wisdom teeth out. Only one was bothering him and we had been told by a previous dentist all he needed was an antibiotic to get him through a few months. However we were told that insurance would cover his procedure. We were scheduled to come back on August 26th but I was very adamant that we would not come back on the 26th unless insurance was going to cover this procedure. On August 25th I received a phone call from the office stating that the procedure was covered with a deductible payment of approximately $400 for one tooth. Again they pushed to have all 4 done. They stated that the tooth on the other side was going to start bothering him if it wasn't already. We were told that insurance would cover the two teeth for only an additional $85. We agreed to do the 2 teeth and went back in on August 26th. Since my son was 18 they made him sign legal documents saying he would be responsible for whatever wasn't paid by the insurance. We were told by the office that they will both medical and dental so we would actually receive a refund of the $500 that we were paying that day. We were also informed by the office that they bill both medical and dental for anesthesia and they bill two doses even though you're under the same anesthesia for the first tooth anyway. Today I received a bill from them for the entire procedure stating that insurance didn't cover my son's procedure. They want me to pay an additional $1,100 on top of the $500 that I already paid that day for the procedure they said I would actually get a refund on. They said that as a courtesy (that they don't legally have to do) that they call the insurance company and give codes over the phone and that's how they get you the quote that you pay the Day of Service but that my 18 yr old signed legal paperwork saying that it's actually just a quote and your insurance company might not pay any or all of your services. The insurance company (when contacted) referred me to a letter they sent the dentist and said they should have submitted a "pre-estimate prior to having costly services rendered in order to give the dentist's office and the patient a better idea of the services which may or may not be covered". Megan in billing said that they don't need to call or get a pre-estimate and that they do those things as a courtesy to the patient. Not much of a courtesy! If they had told me it was going to cost $1,600 he would have simply gotten the antibiotic! If they had told me the additional tooth was going to cost $700 and not the $85 that they "quoted" we only would have done the one. They completely misrepresented everything about this and now state "we will gladly set up a payment arrangement with you". read more

I was so irritated with this office after bringing both of my kids there for a consultation for wisdom teeth extraction. First of all, you fill out more paperwork than when you close on a house. Secondly, both kids had just had x-rays done at their dentist but they took new ones anyway--an unnecessary extra charge. The Dr. spent 5 minutes with us to say they needed to come out. When I was leaving I was corralled into a holding area so the finance people could get ahold of me before I could exit. I was given the quotes and then asked to pay $45 for each kid. I was taken back a bit because I've had oral surgery and orthodontist consults before and have never been charged but I paid. A few weeks later I was sent $175 bills for each kid for the consultation! I called to inquire and to also see if these costs were going to be applied to the actual procedure, they were not! I was livid! $440 for the Dr. to spend 5 minutes to tell me it will cost me close to $5000 to have the teeth extracted. I called another local oral surgeon who did the consult for free and I cancelled my appointments and will NEVER return to this office and I make sure I tell all of my friends who have kids in the wisdom teeth age to not go to this office. Went to Dr. Kalant and Associates to have some teeth pulled. The surgery and care were fantastic but the billing process is an experience that I won't soon forget. I paid about 2000.00 dollars out of my own pocket the day of the surgery and now, 2 months later they are asking for more money. Their explanation was that the amount I was given to pay was an estimate. I called 5 days prior to surgery, as stated on the estimate, to get a final amount that I would owe the day of the surgery. I paid all of it upfront and maxed out a credit card doing so. When asked why I owed more they told me that the dental allowance had run out. I asked about double charges on the bill and they stated, "we bill that way to get the insurance to pay us more money." That money would have been nice to pout toward my outstanding balance that you are say I owed, wouldn't it? I'm not even sure if this is legal. When I asked if I could set up a payment plan, the billing manager stated that they don't offer that because they go through an outside company that provides that. When I told the billing manager that I had maxed out that option, she told me that there wasn't anything she could do for me. I asked again about a payment plan and she said fine. I asked if I could get that agreement in writing, she said, "no." GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING FROM THIS COMPANY! Had I done that in the first place I wouldn't be dealing with this headache right now. The billing personal for this company are VERY rude and ill-natured toward their patients. They are not willing to compromise or take into account the patients' financial situation. read more
