Dr. Robert Hartman is a "Model Doctor" that all other doctors should be envious of him and must try t copy him. His soft spoken gentle, yet assured demeanor puts you at rest and assures you of a correct diagnosis and the perfect remedy for it. The time that he takes to explain the issue in layman's terms is incredible and extraordinary. His focus is the patient and not the insurance, deductible, or how much he makes. When you go to his office, you really see a true doctor and not a businessman turned doctor. Yet, he makes sure to administer the type medicine that wont put a hole in your wallet. Dr. Hartman himself is great & takes his time to try to help with your issues, 10 stars just for him. I've actually referred many of my clients & friends to him. His front desk...not so much & is horrible now that Melissa doesn't work there anymore. She was always on top of things & very accommodating from setting up appts to getting answers to any of my questions. She knew my history of sudden skin & random allergies and if I'd call she'd get me in asap that day or let me know what the doctor recommended. The "office manager" has a huge ego and was annoyed I asked for Melissa when I had a painful bump growing above my eyebrow. I wanted to see if she could recommend something over the counter since I was going out of town in a few days to help till I was able to see the doctor. She definitely made me aware that Melissa wasn't going to be able to get me in any earlier than the 2 week away appt she gave me because she was the OFFICE MANAGER! Means absolutely nothing to me because I'm trying to see the dr, not there to see you... Last time I was having a reaction to a medicine he prescribed, I called and was told they'd get the message to the Dr....didn't hear back. Next day I called again and was told he has lots of messages and they'll get back to me by the end of the day...didn't hear back again! Luckily I knew someone that could get in touch with him, but by then I already made the decision to stop taking the medicine. I did get in the next day, and he did acknowledge that they should have called me back. Dr. Hartman has always been great, too bad his front office is no longer on the same level. I hope I won't need anymore emergency cortisone shots, but if I do I'll just stop in and take my chances rather than call. read more

When you see other physicians in the doctors waiting room waiting to be seen you know you are in the hands of an excellent skilled and respected physician. Such was the case when I visited Dr Hartman's office. Dr Hartman did not disappoint. I have suffered with a chronic skin problem and he took time in helping me design a plan and also in patiently explaining why some things work and other approaches fail. For the reviewers who complain that this Dr. Is abrupt or grumpy you should choose your physician by their skill and knowledge not perceived"charm", medicine is not a Miss Congenality contest. The good doctors are busy. Sometimes They spend a lot of time with one patient and then move the easy appointments and more quickly. The next visit things are often reversed and you get more time than another patient. To get the best care from your physicians you need to develop a relationship and like all relationships in life there is an-ebb and flow. My only regret with Dr Hartman is that we can't clone him so that it's a little easier to get an appointment. But given the quality of care from Dr Hartman and also the attention to detail of his staff I'm happy to wait when necessary. read more

I was highly recommended to Dr Hartman by another doctor. Had to wait a month to get an appointment for a problem that really needed quicker attention. After finally seeing him, he gave me a perscription. I did what I was told, didnt work. Called back a month later asked his nurse to please have him call me, he did not return my phone call. Called again, left message, no return call. I wrote a letter to him since I could not get hold of him only to get a letter back telling me he would no longer treat me. I had at that point already found another doctor. What doctor does not return his calls when a patient wants to discuss what to do since his first treatment did not work. My son had seen him to check all his moles and he said he only checked his face & arms and didnt want to bother checking on the rest of his body. Not good. My mother had scheduled an appointment with Dr. Hartman over a month ago for sun spots. Dr. Hartman had treatment my mother in the past and accepted cash. My mother went in today and was turned down since Dr. Hartman's office does not accept her Health insurance and would not accept cash as payment. WHO DOES NOT ACCEPT CASH! Not sure what it's worst. The rudeness of the lady at the front desk, the photo that dr. Hartman shows at every visit of a busty lady in her bra, the exact same 20 minutes lecture we got each time, or the fact that for a full mole check up Dr Hartman didn't ask my son to remove his clothes and tried to examine the moles with his Superman X-rays. All I had to do was make a phone call and I knew this wasn't an office who wanted my business. The woman who answered the phone was completely unhelpful. All she could say was I don't know I don't have that information. I was looking to get an estimate cost for a first time visit which was impossible. Did not care to ask for insurance info and took zero interests in trying to figure out what a simple visit expense would be. Strange the receptionist does not know how much producers and consultations would range. Calling another office completely different experience. The receptionist looked up insurance info explained billing and gave an estimate easily and appt was booked. At that office it was clearly shown that they cared and took time to invest in their customer. None in the slightest from Hartman's office. read more

I cannot say enough about how Dr. Hartman is probably the best Dermatologist I have ever seen. I have a scalp condition that has been driving me crazy for over 16 years. I have seen about 10 different Dermatologists during this time and each Dermatologist has given up on me in trying to find a cure or treatment for this condition. Finally, I saw Dr. Hartman in late 2016 (yes, it took two or three months to get in to see him, but what do you expect from a Dermatologist that is well known throughout Los Angeles for his expertise). When I saw Dr. Hartman for the first time, he was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and was DETERMINED to find a treatment for my scalp condition. Fast forwarding to present tense, unfortunately, I still have the condition, but Dr. Hartman is still 100% determined to find treatment for this condition. I know people don't like how long it takes to get in to see him, but people need to understand that Dr. Hartman is known by so many people far and wide and when you do get in to see him, you realize why he is considered one of the best Dermatologists in Los Angeles. I noticed people also complained about his front office staff, but they have always been friendly to me and extremely helpful. Money hungry! Rude! Always run late. I went to have a simple skin tag removal done. After being 55min late,Dr Hartman froze them off. It did not work! I came back for him to either re-freeze or clip them and they charged me another co-pay and also wanted to Up charge another $50 on top of the co pay! It was a new fee they were implementing! I refused because it should of been taken care of the first time! They became so rude and condescending! Three of his employees all gathered up front and told me this is the way it is and they would only waive the fee if the remaining tag were exactly The same as the old ones?! ! lol really? Nothing new or different would be treated or they would charge another $50! Wow talk about shitty customer service! It's all about the extra money not about the patient or even understanding that I really don't want to be there a 2nd time at all! How about a little compassion for patients time and money? My wife and I visited Dr. Hartman's office in 2012 with our then-10-month-old daughter, who had tiny molluscum warts on her legs and backside. Our regular pediatric clinic had been treating them but said we should look for a specialist, as they had continued to spread. Dr. Hartman's office was pleasant, and the staff was very friendly. I developed an instant rapport with at least two of the staff. It was nice to talk about parent stuff with the staff. Nevertheless, we had to wait 90 minutes to see the doctor. In the meantime, our active daughter got to know EVERYONE in the waiting room. When Dr. Hartman finally arrived in the exam room, he was surly and unhelpful, and couldn't have been more eager to get rid of us. He never even took a moment to check on our daughter's issues on his own--he wanted us to point them out for him! I don't know, doctor, maybe you ought to pretend you're a doctor and check on your patient? He used the same medicine the pediatric clinic had been using previously, and when I noted that to him, he dismissed that with, "Well, they're doing it wrong." He hastily wrote out a prescription for a generic medicine to treat the warts, which was good, but it just wasn't enough. He spent less than five minutes with us, and he seemed to be looking beyond us the entire time, as if he couldn't be bothered with us. I have never encountered another doctor who wanted us to go away. It was borderline insulting. The doctor was very disappointing. Maybe the coffee machine was broken that day, or maybe he's just a jerk in real life. One of those is certainly true. His staff was very nice, though. Maybe they were compensating. read more

I was recommended to Dr. Hartman. I understand he is supposedly one of the best, but I was unimpressed by him and his office staff. They do not return messages, and Dr. Hartman does not follow up with patients. It was also clear to me a that Dr. Hartman does not review his own files before seeing patients. My daughter is 13 years old and has suffered some severe hair loss due to alopoecia. Each time we went to see Dr. Hartman, he treated and interacted with us like it was the first time he had seen us. A few times he sent us away telling us he would research or look into something, but never got back to us, even after we made multiple calls to follow up. I am sure he is fine if you want pimples popped, but if you want a caring medical practitioner and quality care, he is not your guy. One of the best doctor office visits I have had. I was a first time patient and it took me only two minutes to fill out the forms. I waited two more minutes before I was called in. I took my 24 month old son to see this doctor thinking he was a specialist in pediatric dermatology. He is not, despite his degrees on the wall. First of all he has absolutely no bedside manner with a toddler. He barely looked at him and pronounced eczema. I asked him about the dots on his face and he said it wasn't anything to be concerned about. Keep in mind he didn't have me undress my child so he could check him out thoroughly. As soon as I took him back to his daycare - they sent him home with hand, foot and mouth disease. UGHHHH I just took him to a specialist 15 minutes before and he could not diagnose this??! I had to then take him to another doctor right away , who checked the dots on his face, looked in his mouth and said yes hand and mouth disease. He was contagious and needed to stay home. I am extremely disturbed that this specialist could not have told me this when he saw him 3o min prior. Do not take your child here, find a regular doctor since they seem to be more thorough and better and diagnosing skin issues with children. Called his office before writing this review to let them know . They stand by their eczema only diagnosis - ridiculous! I would give this doctor zero stars if possible. Dr Hartman is one of the best I've ever seen. We met him because our baby had an unexplainable rash on her butt and after she has been misdiagnosed by a pediatrician the next step was a dermatologist. Dr Hartman takes his time and answers every possible question you may have. He had an incredible wealth of knowledge. He was the only one who was honest about my baby's rash and just like he said it went away on its own. I've been going to Dr, Hartman for a few years. I won't go to just any dermatologist. Dr. Hartman is a very good doctor. I have seen other dermatologists in the past that didn't really work for me. Dr. Hartman is very professional and directly answers my questions and concerns. He's quick to find the issue and addresses it well.
