With that in mind, I stopped in to see if they also services motorcycles and if they could fix our John Deere. I needed an oil change and chain adjustment. The big shop in Ann Arbor could have gotten it done in an hour but after talking with Bill, I was confident they could do the job and work within the cost that the big shop would have charged. The gimme was that I had to leave the bike with them at least over night. No big. I told them that I needed it back by Friday for a charity ride on Saturday. I would rather support the local business, closer to home, than worry about a day or two. Got my bike back on Thursday, and thankfully it was Thurdsay because Bill stayed a few minutes late, to allow me to get through rush hour traffic, up to the shop. I know the big shop wouldn't have done that for me. So we will see how it goes with the tractor. We need it fixed before fall. We have a big yard.

When our 1986 Honda Accord (my wife is the original owner) needed a water pump replacement. I could…read morenot get it done myself due to a rusty and badly seized bolt holding the water pump-alternator bracket. I called almost every auto repair shop in Chelsea, Dexter, and even Ann Arbor area but nobody was willing to touch this 37 year old car. Then I called Jeff who was willing to take a look. I got the car towed to the shop and John got the seized nut out, remove the bracket and replaced the water pump. The cooling system was refilled and tested for no leak. I was very impressed by the professionalism and excellent service. I know now where I can get our collectable Honda serviced when I cannot do it myself. Thank you the excellent service team at Kern.

a while back I brought in my f150 to fix 2 snapped bolts on my rear differential. they charged me 1…read morehour per bolt and demanded the diff plate be replaced. at the time I just needed my truck as it's part of my income, so I didn't think much of it. they broke another bolt in the process of removing the plate and then charged me for that one too. but that's not the problem I have. my old diff plate was totally undamaged. those bolts don't thread into the plate either, so one's the unbroken bolts were removed, the plate could be removed and then the old bolts drilled out or welded out. th one fix cost me nearly $900 and about $300 of it was for the new diff plate. they didn't put any protective coating on the new plate either so now it's rusting and the rtv seal was haphazardly placed and squeezed out around the entire differential. there's nothing professional about the work that was done and I can honestly say that I will never go back. honest mechanics are hard to come by. after my experiences, maybe it's time for me to open a shop. I'd be slow, but I wouldn't lie to my customers and my ability to apply rtv would easily be superior.

I had an issue that I was lead to believe was going to be covered only to have them tell me it wasn't and that I had to go somewhere else to have it fixed then on top of that charged me a diagnostic fee. Today I called in because the engine light is on and I wanted to bring it in for them to plug it in and read the error code. But they don't do that in service anymore apparently, instead you need an appointment with a tech and pay a diagnostic fee. Go somewhere else.

They sent me the invoices, from them it appears their time estimates are conservative which is great, for instance they can replace a timing chain in 5 hours which is a hell of a lot faster than I can do it! It is my opinion the costs are hidden by the price of parts. The subframe on my Saab was replaced in April, the charge for the part which was used was 1,080 dollars. Here in the south I can get 5 for that price 1,080 dollars. The worst part however is for around 1,080 dollars you can actually buy a brand new OEM subframe. What about a PCV valve for 50 bucks!? The superseded part number to the one in the invoice, in other words the newer part number, costs 12 dollars. Keep in mind that Saab parts are not hard to get contrary to what you may hear, the factories are still pumping a lot of them out. Make of my review what you will, but I personally would not take my Saab to this mechanic.

I called several detailing shops in town and two never returned my calls and one couldnt see me for a week. Eric the guy I spoke to at Main said he didnt have an opening but he would squeeze me in for a spot clean. A total lifesaver. He was wsiting for me and so was the detailing guy...i could easily have walked back to work but they dropped me off and picked me up after the car was done.
